👋 *hey there, enjoy this content? consider becoming a channel member:* ruclips.net/channel/UCHdoOrwo__5kf2qXwdyVdwwjoin
*My overall recommendation* would be to choose both an "S Tier" browser for your general, non-personal internet browsing (reading the news, posts, anything you don't log in for basically), and an "A Tier" or possibly "B Tier" browser for less frequent, more personal browsing (like banking, social media, etc.).
This is because Mullvad/Tor Browser don't save cookies, browsing history, or other site data which makes them a bit inconvenient for sites you regularly log in to. Splitting your browsing habits across two browsers gives you the best of both worlds!
Been watching your content. I hope you keep it up!
It says ultimate browser list but it seems that the only thing in consideration here is privacy and transparency and yes that’s super important, but having features and speed is also important and that was completely overlooked here. This video should be called “the ultimate private browser list”
And just to clarify I don’t know this channel I was just looking for videos about browser comparisons.
then say which one is the fastest ?
yeah didnt find this useful unless I was trying to hack the pentagon or run a nigerian phone scam
@@mranonymous00 From the info I’ve seen apparently chromium browsers are faster, Edge in particular seems to be a little bit better at managing resources (at least on some cases)
From personal experience I didn’t notice much difference between chromium browsers (edge, chrome, brave…) however Firefox and its forks (librewolf, floorp…) are a bit slower on some websites (RUclips for example)
@@AndyB-qu5ck you made me laugh, thanks man
most of the websites would run super fast on any of them if not for enshittification done by youtube and google etc. all the other “features” such as shopping extensions etc. totally void the privacy aspect anyways so the video stands right.
never knew there were people that knew so much about every iternet browser
Oh and you do? Egocentric@@juicenoufil4517
@@juicenoufil4517 What are your top 3 browers?
I love iternet bowser
yes, welcome you to Internet-browerology
there's always atleast one person on earth that knows everything about anything.
For example, an old dude that knows everything about sardine can.
Seems like you forgot pissandshittium (yes this is an actual browser)
i lol'd
OMG, That is such an amazing browser! Why didn't I use it before? My grandma used to wait for webpages to load, now she doesn't have to anymore! Thank you dev!
lolll
The humor and imagination of the person who created it is top notch!
"The browser that doesn't give a SHIT" is there motto hahaha
Vivaldi def deserves at least C tier. I don't like Chromium based browsers (using hardened FF currently) but Vivaldi is just a joy to use. Any one who remembers the old Opera knows what I'm talking about.
Sadly it's too slow. Been using it for 3 years, now switching to smth else, I can't stand its performance and bugs anymore...
@@teran1a what did you switch to?
@@xldplx I use google chrome atm, but already think of switching back. I guess most bugs will disappear if I fresh install Vivaldi with no old data
@@teran1a i used to use Brave and it was hella fast and then i discovered Vivaldi's tag management system and i'm instanty in-love. but nowadays i can feel the slowness and the sluggishness from Vivaldi. i want to switch but i cannot move on from the tag management system, it is really good.
@@xldplx I also care about the mobile version of browser. Vivaldi has the best one, I can't really switch from it. I hope developers will fix the sluggishness
I use Librewolf on Linux with Ungoogled Chromium as a backup, Mull on Android, and Vanadium as my Android WebView. I totally understand your Librewolf criticism, but since I use a package manager, automatic in-browser updates don't really matter to me. I choose Librewolf over Mullvad browser because I prefer a community built browser. I mostly agree with your tier list. 👍
Literally same here, except I use the Thorium (official bin from the aur) for backup, if something needs chromium (I know its not entirely ungoogled, but its way faster).
do you use arch linux too?
@@fruitedlight Yup, arch is good for keeping packages up to date
@@fruitedlightGentoo 😂
An important point not mentioned in the video is that the benefit of Mullvad only works if users all have the same basic settings determined by the company. If a user deviates with customizations, it makes them more "visible" and renders the whole point behind using the browser useless. Plus it's a for-profit company that clearly wants users to pay €5/month for their VPN service to complete the whole package.
Librewolf lets you customize to your heart's content while retaining all the benefits, and only really lags behind on security for 1-3 days. Even if you use it in a place where this is a bad idea, all that means is switching over to hardened Firefox until Librewolf catches up.
So yeah, I'd knock Mullvad down to B tier and raise Librewolf up to A just based on the customization issue. Having to use the exact same default settings as other users of a browser is just too restrictive.
I definitely don't see how Brave is worse than hardened firefox, past the crypto stuff (which you hide on setup) Brave blocks tracking and ads out of the box even on websites like Spotify, literally the best browser for Android and on web they have a tor integration.
from the sounds of it, i think he uses hardened firefox as his browser so its most likely bias, then again i use brave and think its better than firefox so that could also be unintentional bias
After Chrome essentially broke RUclips for me ie, made every single video stutter on playback. I tried Brave and now Brave is my default.
Plus after RUclips started blocking ad blockers; I kinda got sick of having to find a new ad block solution every few weeks. Brave has inbuilt adblock that works with RUclips and for the last month that I have been using it, has been perfect.
@@Vodysly5_5 I tried Firefox, Librewolf, Ungoogled chrome, chrome, my main browser is brave, and I can tell you all firefox browser are much slower in everything than chromium based browser, also watched a few benchmark videos and they just proved it theres an abyss between chromum speeds and firefox speeds. Brave Ftw. (also classic firefox sometimes got bugged in the past and kept showing the Update progress bar every single damn time i wanted to use it)
Brave is steadily getting worse. I don't like the AI stuff. And Brave Search was great at first but now seems tainted by the same biases that made Google terrible.
@@ThZuao you dont like the ai, dont use the ai. and what google biases, you can change your search engine in settings
How can this be the "ultimate" one when you are listing based only on privacy and security?
any tierlist will be biased. try out all the browsers you're interested in
true
Like driving a rocket to your friends house while in the nude. I guess someone might consider that to be the ultimate car ride?
This is one of the best videos about browsers. Thank you. I used chrome a lot but since youtube is broken when u use chrome I changed to brave and I must say the experience I have with brave when I use YT is sooo awewsome.
@kevin_yang633 Huh?
Clearly never useed Edge before
i did and i regret it
vivaldi IS actualy open source but its kinda hard to find it ( /source after the normal vivaldi link) i do think it should get alteast a B tier because it has alot of customizability and very good features, very good browser for people like me who use break mode all the time to hide what we are seeing from people who pass by.
Is ecosia browser on android actually private? What tier would it get?
it's just a chromium reskin I think
I am REALLY enjoying using the Arc browser. I feel like it spoiled me to the point I can't go back to others; it's such a good UX, especially after you learn their shortcuts. It takes some time to get used to it, tho, because it has a very different layout.
I love using arc too, but when i want to install Epic Games and want to log in with google, the pop up of google account didnt appear, do u know how to fix it ?
@@boyhoutarou2357 I don't know, sorry. Maybe try reaching out to Arc support
@@boyhoutarou2357 set edge as your default browser, it will most likely work
It's feels like it's still heavily in development before it can mature on windows though, I'd definitely recommend other browser at least for the moment
@@boyhoutarou2357try disabling the website blocking features when experiencing issues
Vivaldi is my favourite browser, it has a built in email and calendar client, adblocker, notes and sessions function, workspaces etc a completely Internet Suite
BTW any company that's involved in AI will try their best to get their hands on as much user data as possible, as that's what they train AI on.
The easter egg in the Thorium browswer was a lot more amusing to me than concerning (as easter eggs like that should be).
What concerns me about it, was something that also was shown in the XZ utils chain of events.
If that easter egg was a problem to the community, and the community was analyzing source code, as they claim happens; they would have raised the issue within hours of it going up.
If it were simply an attack on the developer, without any true interest in the easter egg; these community checks could possibly still be occurring. However, the XZ utils backdoor was only found by the eyes a very specialized professional developer -- indicating, a second time, that there are no community eyes on these projects.
Many many examples of this beyond these two, just look into NPM and PyPI supply chain attacks. It is a big problem.
pretty based overall although I do not agree with the librewolf rating. also I personally think 0days will always be available and I do not like the auto update logic you are so focused about
What about kiwi browser ? And is there is any browser out there like puffin ? Thank you so much
other than ublock origin, which addons (and other things) do you need to add to arc for it to be "secure enough" (like i'd say maybe b tier>)
I just installed Arc on Windows. Installed it, got to open it ince and than it just wouldn't start anymore. No uninstaller to be found, so I had to do system restore to get rid of it. Is Ghostery Browser any good?
you need to delete some files in local appdata to open arc browser again (i really hope this is just temporary)
couldve used Revo Uninstaller
You forgot to rank from best-to-worst/left-to-right within each tier at the end 😉
Great video thank you for all these detailed information for each browser! I'll be probably switching to Brave from Chrome.
I think there is also a difference between US and EU customers when it comes to data collection etc.
The absence of Iridium browser, and a few others undermines the integrity of your list. You made some good points though... I don't agree with your tier list, but, thank you for introducing me to some new browsers, it was fun experimenting with these alternatives.
Recently switched from Chrome to Pale moon, I love the Skeuomorphic design of it and speed isn’t that much of an issue, it’s not that slow + i would sacrifice one second for a better GUI and more customizations.
I still use chrome sometimes, I still haven’t logged in any accounts of mine in pale moon but once im more familiar and comfortable with it i will.
oh also safari isn’t that bad. sure it tracks it’s user (pretty much like most browsers) but using safari is probably the best option if you are on iOS. Better to get tracked by one company than two imo..
Why are people so obsessed about "privacy"? The info that apps collect is anonymous, it's just like a payment for using a free, constantly supported, and updated browser. It's not like the whole company sits around in a circle monitoring which porn sites are you using.
I only use edge when i need all / most of my ram for some webui based thing. And its blocked from sending / receiving anything on my firewall.
Hey! Love this guide. Thank you so much for it. Are there any browsers that you'd recommend that don't run on previous versions of Firefox, Chrome, or Safari? Like what about WebKit or Gnome?
For use with my personal information I agree mostly with the list.
Sadly as Dev, I have to keep things like Edge, Chrome, Safari and at least two others around for doing work.
Not only as a dev, I would add. Professional use in general you unfortunately need Chrome because a lot of websites and tools will sometimes not even work in Firefox
Did not even want to mention most personal information from banks or healthcare is on AS400, Java Apps (pre-2010), etc...
This entire video is basically privacy focused.
For anyone who actually wants to use good browsers:
Best privacy and speed: librewolf
Best speed: brave (or edge if you don't care about privacy)
Best of all: Firefox.
Can we get a tier list for people who don’t care about privacy over the internet? I know you were upfront about it but most privacy isn’t the only feature people care about, e.g. I like OperaGX because it’s makes it easy to limit the RAM/CPU usage of the browser. I was hoping this video would be more about those sorts of features and not 100% about privacy since I feel like the browser breakdown regarding that is 1. TOR if you know you definitely need guaranteed privacy 2. Anything else. But idk maybe I’m just a normie
My favorite mobile only browser is not on this list:
Via browser
Hey! 3 months late but why is it your favorite if you don't mind me asking?
@@s1mplet0n94 A day late I have multiple google accounts but
I have a cheaper phone and Via browser runs really well on it it also has nice stuff like a customizable home screen it so far to me has been a no BS browser without any fluff so it runs and looks well
But if privacy is a concern for you I might not recommend it as it is a Chinese browser
@@s1mplet0n94 lightweight and runs really well this matters to me as my phone is pretty cheap
I think that you obviously value privacy above anything else. Your list wasn't on how good the browser is, just how safe it is.
@jonaharagon I have always used Firefox (i'm not very educated in the software like you are) but should i use google as the search engine along side Firefox? Do I need to download anything or something different apart form a say a VPN to make my use of Firefox more private? Google as a search engine is not as good as it used to be so i have been using Perplexity AI more often to find useful information. Thanks for making the video.
You could give duckduckgo search a try
what would you recommend for privacy and security but also relevant search results?
So
As soon as you released the vide, Pale Moon 33.0.0 released.
Pale Moon now has Do Not Track requests, as well as canvas data poisoning, which prevents canvas fingerprinting.
Now for security, yeah sure it is weaker than most, but since it's more obscure, less people will attack it.
Addons are still an issue, because Pale Moon will never support WebExtensions, but since you can use old firefox extensions, it may still end up a bit useful
Performance is probably the best thing it has going for it, because it will run great even on low end computers, and it will also not eat up your RAM and CPU.
RUclips doesn't let me edit my own comments
question how do you balance because you are on YT i like having some privacy i use brave n brave search but i use facebook for family and IG to promote my PC builds i struggle with balance if there even a point in caring about privacy if i use 2-3 apps that def collect data?
This is an amazing summary ! Thank-you. Have you considered making this a quarterly or yearly review?
Vivaldi is sluggish in my opinion when compared to some chromium browsers.
which search engine can give accuracy?
Librewolf C tier...?
C tier is not bad
@@thatsnatssbro put vanilla firefox above it there is no way
At this point in time, Brave should be the only choice for normies. Its not he best, but it has the least bloat, least resource greedy and best privacy focus{for now} of all browsers.
the crypto drama kinda turned a lot of people away
it's very buggy, i switched from opera gx to brave purely cause opera was buggy, but it turns out it is just as buggy, firefox is the least buggy for me rn, but i've only been using it for a few weeks
dislike for puting arc in D when it's literally fastest and best browser.
If you make a ranking based on "default settings" you shouldn't put browsers with inbuilt VPN lower than other inbuilt VPN browsers, cos VPN is *always* disabled by default. Also you always get asked, if you'd like to share your data with a company! On top of that Tor Browser with default settings is exactly as insecure as any other browser. *Basically there are only 3 ranks if you use ublock + own browser settings (disable analytics) in every single one of them.*
S Tier for Edge + Safari, cos they are the only ones that give exactly the same as everyone else, but are the only ones that give you high quality on Netflix + Amazon...
A Tier all chromium and webkit based browsers.
B Tier for all gecko based browsers, cos everything that webkit and chromium have, but always at least ~0.2-0.5 seconds slower in everything (high-end CPU) and even slower on old PCs.
It makes me so happy that you gave Google Chrome an F. I've always HATED this browser for so many reasons. I've never been able to figure out why people seemed to love it so much. My favourite browsers have been Firefox (although, that relationship pretty much ended a few years ago; still have it installed and use as a 'backup' now and again for certain things), currently using Brave but just this morning, I started thinking about checking out some other browsers as it's been a few years since I've done any research on what's available. That's how I just found this video. Very thorough and informative; thank you :) I've just downloaded Tor and will be trying it out for awhile to see how we 'get on'. I've known about Tor for quite some time but had just never taken the next steps of downloading and using. Thanks again for all the research you put into making this video.
i used to use firefox but now its very slow so i completely stopped and use chrome or sometimes edge but never been back to fierefox for over a year
As long as you're okay with Microsoft and Google tracking everything you do online, then I guess it doesn't matter.
Brave (on Linux) blocks so much tracking that I can’t use it to connect to some of my financial institutions. It also has built in TOR connectivity so I would definitely rank it higher than Firefox, though I don’t know if the Windows or Mac versions do the same things. The IOS version does not connect to TOR.
The Windows version does have Tor built in.
You really shouldn't use Tor in brave. The whole point of Tor is the be anonymus, and you are not getting that in brave's knockoff version
Crippling accessibility and useability is a disadvantage, not an advantage. So Brave should be lower than Firefox.
That depends on how aggressive your ant-tracking settings are. I have not had an issue wirh Brave on Windows or Linux.
@@GERRaze through that logic tor is worse than firefox, we're talking about security not convenience
Safari deserves at least a B-tier... It is a good browser to work with...
Arc deserves a C tier and also Edge with a b tier
I have used all these browsers so I am providing my opinion on this...
Im surprised the browsers I use are ranked so low
Although im not surprised about Librewolf being a lot lower than hardened Firefox
It just doesn't make any sense to use it when the alternative is almost as easy to get
Ungoogled Thorium would be too powerful
Customized!FF and Cromite are solid too
This was so informative, I personally use Brave but I want to try Tor..thanks for the video
i am also using brave from past 2 years
but today i reinstalled it on my laptop and i am getting adds on youtube
are u also getting adds?
@@vibhor9216 no I'm not getting adds
Tor isn't for daily use. It's much slower and blocks many elements to achieve the level of anonymity it has. It's not a replacement to Brave, more like a complementary browser
@@vibhor9216 no do you not have the shields up or ublock installed
@@vibhor9216 Nope I haven't been getting ads.
As a Librewolf user, I can't really agree with the criticism you levied against it, or the poor rating.
The installer does offer an updater and it can be set to run whenever a user boots. Autoupdates are important, sure, but much more in critical work environments than for single users; all it takes is a bit of self discipline to check for updates once every few days, not the end of the world.
While hardened Firefox does offer similar security benefits, it requires extra steps to modify vanilla Firefox that an end user may be unable or simply unwilling to do; Librewolf comes hardned out of the box.
Lastly, Librewolf is current in regards to codebase. I used to use Watefox but migrated after its debacle. As you yourself mentioned, WF being based on ESR codebases is a massive demerit, despite its long track record.
This "2024 Ultimate Browser Tier List" is pretty subjective, and frankly, missing some key criteria. Functionality seems entirely absent from your rankings. How is Firefox (Hardened) above Firefox when it breaks 20% of the sites it visits? You also put Tor browser on A tier? Come on.. functionality/usability is a huge part of the "tier" of a browser. What about extensions, secondary features, GUI, UI, ecosystem / multi-device integration, ease of use, etc?
On top of all that, there are no sources to support claims about things like telemetry data or security. Accusations like 'low security practices' deserve citations.
The title should really be "My opinion of the most secure / private browsers in 2024"
Exactly what I was thinking, even though this video is made with good faith, good faith doesn't mean its a good tier list. I wish this included more things that are important to the average user, not just those who are trying to get the most privacy possible.
You know, people love to praise open source, but it’s actually terrible to be open source because hackers get to just…look at all the vulnerabilities for free.
but other people can also fix the vulnerabilities
What would you recommend for mobile?
Which is best for low end PC/laptop to have running while gaming?
ungoogled or thorium
Gecko is pretty bad on Android in terms of security
I don't get why Mull is so high
I closed the video after u placed Vivaldi in the D tier :)
Dumb question. Is there a risk to using Opera GX if you only use your PC for gaming? All purchaches are made via steam cards on steam.
I would say unlikely. The privacy trade-offs up to that point are already higher (unless you play offline games exclusively). That being said, as a gamer myself, Opera isn't as good as it seems. My personal recommendation is to pick one of 2 routes, more security/privacy or more convenience. Use one of the S-B tier browsers for your gaming browser, OR take the convenience that comes from edge and co-pilot (this is what I did) that way I can hit the windows key during games and instantly search or instantly use co-pilot to ask a question about the game! Hope this helps.
Great point on the games themselves being a risk. The whole reason I limit my gaming PC, to just gaming.
I had to use Edge the other day and after just 5 minutes I felt like I was transported back 20 years ago when I didn't know much about PCs and often ended up clicking everything on the internet using a crappy browser, leading to constant shady pop-ups.
That's what the default Edge experience is like.
Absolutely disgusting!
I've been using edge now for few months and this is absolutely not the case. After customizing it to my liking it has been far better than any other Chromium browser I've used. absolutely no popups.
What about 'SRWare Iron' browser?
I like BRAVE NIGHTLY for "off Google Chrome" browsing
Vivaldi deserves so much better
all these tier lists hate it way too much because its not fully open sourced, but its just so nice to use imo that it doesnt really matter. the developers have a good background with pretty much no past drama, so i really feel like theres nothing wrong with it being closed source since vivaldi actually does care a lot about privacy. they just dont want their work to possibly be stolen with is sort of understandable
Isn't that privacy browser tier list? Or am I missing something
imagine putting chrome in F and Arc in D that's terrible tierlist. Arc should be S it's fastest browser and has lot of features. Tor you only consider security but who cares if it's extremly slow and lack of features.

I'm glad I searched for a review for Opera before downloading it and came across this video. It is currently sponsoring many of the channels I'm subscribed to, and I second guessed downloading it due to the free VPN.

What do you think about the Ecosia browser for Android?
Thoughts on Gnome Web/Epiphany? It’s WebKit-based, rapidly improving UX-wise, supports FF-sync. I prefer it to Firefox on Linux for casual browsing but doesn’t yet support extensions.
I admire your use of classical music, along with the insights that you provide, well done 👍
Judging by your channel, I can see you becoming a youtuber that will quickly surpass someone like The Hated One. I have subbed and liked your video to help you with the algorithm. Don't forget me when you develop a huge platform!

I use Microsoft Edge because Firefox based browsers are really choppy dragging tabs around, and because it's the only browser I've found that has an option to make the UI bigger in the form of Touch Mode (Only available in Canary and Dev builds for some reason).
I never expected to like Microsoft Edge, but after heavy customization, it's become my daily driver. Except for privacy.

It wasn't a ton and it wasn't legally questionable.
Your observation is incredible, according to your point of view Midori is in the same line as Edge, Opera, Bromite and Chromium and Chrome but Astian is not a big tech and we try to open a space for ourselves in the privacy and lightness market, but as We always say in our Astian publications that you are not the product and we will continue to offer an excellent browser and excellent added services.
i noticed this is more about privacy, which i dont care about for the most part.
iv tried a lot of different browsers and funnily enough opera GX gave me the best performance out of all the ones i tried, and with harder running games the CPU limiter comes in clutch, so even though you say its just a "gamer skin" it genuinely felt the best to game with.
Brave on the otherhand boasts its in house ad block, which when i installed, blocked nothing on twitch or youtube and i had to resort to ublock anyways while it provided nothing else to me.
all the browsers i use are in the bottom 2 what? that obviously makes no sense
No Avast Browser? Rate it now!!
I would like to know how many people are using tor browser actually? Despite their good privacy, this browser is pretty lame.
So where would Firefox focus rank in your tierlist?
and
Can I harden firefox on android?
Yea, you can, tho its a little more liketed than pc. Hardening ff just means that you're changing some settings and using some addons, like privacy badger, ublock, etc to help make it more secure. Like its shown in the vid, there are some scripts that u can download to do it for u, but just personally i would look up a tutorial if you want an easy and quick setup. Its more limited on mobile, but yiu can totally do it on andriod, ios, graphene or whatever.
For a very newbie guy and that does not know anything about web browsers and cyber security etc this was a very interesting video to watch! Thank you for all the info and perspectives!! Kudos!!
Tor is so slow though. Brave and Edge are both top notch.
Song at 17:10 ?
How about the Aloha browser, with it's build in free vpn and crypto/nft crap? Talking about free vpn, there is also epic browser.
How in the world is Vivaldi D level here??
Not a briwser tier list, it's only focused in privacy and OS, nit features or speed features at all. I mean at all!
I think internet explorer was peak any other browser is trash I wish Microsoft still continued it
This is the best browser tier list!
Where is puffin browser, it's fastest among all(but it works only on android)
I like safari but many websites don't play nice with it
Seems you should rename the title to browsers I trust the most. I've tried 9 of these browsers and Vivaldi has been far my favorite. You really have to spend the time to go through all the settings to really love it however.
vivaldi is not close source. only they sync is. the rest 99% are open
anything good for ios, outside the EU?
