You are a wonderful technician, I am retired license contractor and enjoyed watching HVAC videos. Still do some work here and there. Only have my right arm, but that doesn't keep me from doing my work. Thanks a million. God bless you.
My furnace was not working. I had no clue what to do. Went through your video and managed to get my furnace working! Thank you for taking time to make this video to help people like me!
Best HVAC Troubleshooting video I've seen in a long time...I'm here because my Rheem Furnace does nothing, the fan won't even come on when I turn it on at the Thermostat...You gave me a lot of things to Check...Thank You.
Thank you so much! I've been watching videos all night and in the first 2 minutes you fixed my problem by telling me about the door switch! OMG! I almost slept all night in 8 degree weather. And your video was the only one that mentioned the gas switch, which was my original issue. But while troubleshooting, I left the door open. Thank you so much!!
Thank you!! Within the first minute you provided the reason why my furnace was not turning on. I thought I'd have to call the company that installed it (which I dislike) and pay them for the visit. I appreciate this!!
I switched on the thermostat and immediately turned it off. That action killed my furnace. Thanks for showing the black smudge in the center of the blown fuse which helped me identify the problem. A quick trip to Autozone for a 3 amp blade fuse and now my furnace is back in business.
UPDATE:1 year and still cranks within the first 2-3 pulls. Probably will buy another when this one finally does bite the dust ruclips.net/user/postUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX . No issues at all. Very happy with it.UPDATE: After 6 months of use and over 70 uses I would still highly recommend this pressure washer. It does vibrate a decent amount but never had it “walk” like others have mentioned. No oil leaks, still seems to run like the day I bought it. Still cranks within 2-3 pulls every time. Very happy with my purchase!Have used it about a dozen times now. Plenty of power, cranks up on 1-2 pulls every time. My only complaint would be I wish it was a little taller to make it easier to walk with it (hits my ankles a lot) and that the two hose connections were a little further apart but it hasn’t caused me any issues. Seems to run a good 1-1/2-2 hrs on a full tank, overall a well built machine and definitely worth the money in my opinion.
I really want to thank you I am a 22-year-old I own my own house and it’s people like you who make that possible. My furnace wouldn’t light and thanks to this video I found out it was a bad transformer and repaired it!
Good troubleshooting Craig. As a master electrician, I have one tip though. Some naturally assume when they have a 0 volt reading that there is no "hot". It could also be a faulty neutral. At 8:02, you are checking the inducer fan supply by probing the hot terminal and the common neutral point. More accurate would be to check both the hot and the neutral right at the connector plug. This insures you have not lost your neutral between the common point and the connector plug.
I have another reason for your list: I had a HVAC contractor who shall remain nameless install a new 90% condensing furnace and new central AC system in 2015. Worked great. In October 2018 it finally turned cold, and I switched my thermostat from "cool" to "heat." Could hear the blower come on, and the furnace's high voltage igniter cycling, but the main burner would not come on. Called HVAC contractor who installed, and with which I had a "priority customer" annual maintenance contract. Sorry, they couldn't send anyone to my house because my area was under wild fire "warning evacuation." So suffered through 5 days of no heat until evacuation warning was lifted. When tech finally arrived, took him about 3 minutes to discover that a slide switch behind the furnace cover that controls power to the solenoid that allows natural gas to flow to the burners was in the "off" position. I didn't even know such a switch existed. Apparently the tech who did my annual maintenance check earlier in the year for some reason left the slide switch in the "off" position. Got a profuse apology, and I expect that the tech who did the annual check up is still getting razzed about it.
Thank you for making this Video. After my air conditioner would not start up, I followed your steps and traced back to power issues. I found a faulty safety switch with a float located in the pan.
Ur the best u have not yet fell me. I have read your book and it’s everything a technician needs to know. Thank you once again for sharing your knowledge
My girlfriend's furnace wasn't getting any heat. Her inducer wasnt turning on. A volt meter showed it wasn't getting any power. Another (different) video told me it was the HSI, so i replaced it. But that didn't fix the issue. Another video told me it was the flame sensor. I changed that too, and that didn't do it either. A third video told me to change the motherboard as the inducer and HSI weren't getting power. So I bought a new motherboard and changed it, but that too didn't fix the issue. I came across your video and learned in step #5 that weak batteries in the wall controller could be the culprit. Her house has two controllers, one upstairs, one downstairs. The upstairs wall controller displayed working digits in the display. Even so, I opened it up and saw that the batteries were corroded . So I changed the batteries in the upstairs unit. But that still didn't fix the issue, even though I cleaned off the terminals as well. The downstairs wall controller had a functioning display also. However, when I changed the batteries in the downstairs wall controller, the heat came on! So lesson learned, sometimes it's the simplest thing. My batteries had enough juice to work the display, but we're too weak to run the heat. Luckily for me all the parts I had purchased over these last two weeks, including the motherboard were returnable as I got them all on Amazon. Thank you for posting this video and helping me troubleshoot her issue, it saved my girlfriend a grip of cash on a service call.
THANK YOUUU. I am not technically literate at all AND THIS helped me solve my issue without having to get my landlords involved and it saved them money! Thanks so much
My switch that should be closed has 2 wires connected that look like they were cut. Would that matter? I didn't notice them cut until a tech was here. Please answer? You show it at 1:24
Been troubleshooting my furnace for several hours 12/30/22 into 12/31/22. Took the doors off earlier today for an inspection - didn't know that there was a door switch that was preventing my furnace from turning back on. When I finally realized the main issue was that the furnace was not getting any power (checked the on/off power switch, checked the breaker) but it wasn't until I found and watched first 1:25 before my problem was solved. Held the Door Switch closed with my finger, and vuolla! After about a minute the furnace was back to running like before. Installed the door and my next step will be to invest in a magnet like you have to hold that puppy closed. Thank you sir! Very much appreciated!
I’ve watched most of your videos. They always have great, accurate content. Bought your book. Excellent reading. Well put together. I installed my own split ac system using your videos and book. Everything went smoothly. Thanks.
3:10 - No need to pull the fuse to check it: after verifying 24volts to the board, if you measure 0volts across the fuse, it is good: if you measure 24volts across the fuse, it is blown.
great vid...like your troubleshoot display set-up. so much easier troubleshooting the older equipment when there was just a fuse/breaker, simple thermostat, transformer, oil burner, or gas valve...so much for new technology...!!
Great videos! Recently I replaced a broken secondary fuse on the furnace and a thermostat for my Bryant Heating and Cooling System, and the LED showed a solid red light. However, when I tried to run it two days ago, the LED turned off, but the new fuse on the furnace and the new battery-powered thermostat, as well as the breaker for the furnace are still all intact. Could you give me an educated guess as what could be wrong? Thank you!
Should start with the batteries in the thermostat. That anyone can check and fix. Unfortunately it was the last and after I panicked not having a voltage meter trying to figure out what I was looking at based on your pictures it was just the batteries. Another problem you could have is a bad pressure switch or clogged air tube for the switch. Great explanation.

Where is that p. S
You talking about the tube that measures negative pressure off the inducer motor? We call it combustion motor
