I think this is going to be my first EV. I really REALLY want to get the 1K mile version, get the tent, and do a coast-to-coast camping drive with it. I think it would be an incredible experience. Hell, no reason you couldn't use campgrounds like KOA for that -- just pull into a spot, plug in, shower in their big bathrooms and bed down for the night no matter if it's super hot or super cold overnight in your tent by just running the HVAC with the stars overhead :)
I don’t think anyone really needs the 1000 mile version other than to flex IMO. 600mile is plenty for a full day of driving with 1 stop for lunch and to charge. I don’t need a car and never have, but I really want this one. It’s so ground breaking and exactly what the market needs (I’m a building energy efficiency professional, so figures….)
I'm doing the same as you. Got my model 3 in june, and last month put the hundred down on an aptera....plus invested a grand. They need to raise funds for production.....wish some rich guy would invest
I would choice and buy only the 1000 mile range version for several reasons: 1. After 5-10 years the capacity of the battery is still enough for all needs and therefore the resell value will be the same. 2. Aptera says you have "never" to charge it and that's the reason why we want this car ....! I want the biggest battery even when I don't need the car for 5 days because in this 5 days the sun can completely charge the car. 3. I can use the battery capacity also for my house It's a perfect mobile energy source for the weekend and for off-site work where no fix electric energy is available.
I think that number 3 could be decisive. You also have to understand that you will be giving up performance due to the increased weight. There is enough on tap that that might not be an issue for you.
In Texas minors need a helmet according to law. I reserved and it was kinda cool Aptera sent me a pre-written email to forward to my congressman to change the law. Aptera is on top of things!
I can't help but think that if any of the 1%ers really cared about the environment and providing affordable eco-friendly options to the masses, they'd make sure Aptera has the money to move forward with production. Delta looks fantastic, and I hope to upgrade my Model 3 to an Aptera someday.

I hope they can get to production but I think large investors are required. I believe the current round of funding just keeps the company afloat, only. I don't expect the car to be perfect but if they can hold to their current pricing, I think it would be a great and important driving option.

You bring up an interesting point about the two-toned look and the possibility that wrap won't be needed on the bottom. I hadn't heard this in other review videos and you may well be right. I agree that this is potentially an excellent improvement for the reasons you stated. I do like that less wrap may be needed (thus cheaper & easier when time comes to replace). I might even choose a 'solar panel' doors option if Aptera had such a feature available which would mean even less wrap.
In one of the recent interviews with Chris. He said just the side panels are getting wrapped. 18" strip and they are going to make the patterns available for you to take to after market wrap companies. Due to them being a right to repair company.
The average number of passengers per car is less than two, there must be a huge market for Aptera motors. A thousand mile range is insane. It has a world record miles/sec fast charging, because of its efficiency. If you don't use the Aptera for a couple of days (or only for very short trips), you can save solar energy for a longer trip, for instance a 60 mile radius is only three days solar charging in a sunny environment. Once every 2 weeks a long trip: radius is 280 miles (448 km). Perhaps the Aptera is the only option for most people to be mobile in the future.
Apteras range and economy are one of the biggest selling features.......there will be lots of city electric vehicles but how many can whisk you over long distances like the Aptera can.
I'm really looking forward to getting mine - over here in the UK there might be a few Euro-regulatory changes (but at least we can ditch physical mirrors - they look removable separately from cameras anyway). Even though mine will likely be with me near 2025, I'm still expecting curiosity! There are physical PRND buttons I think more as regulatory requirement, like having the physical hazard light switch up by the rear-view mirror screen. I agree about the second stalk, but cost-saving is important - just so long as the one stalk doesn't get crazy complicated like Mercedes used to do... Now that Sono have basically confirmed to me that they are not going to make a UK RHD Sion, I was wondering what would sit next to my Aptera on the driveway. So, I've also joined the Lightyear 2 queue, for something to replace my other ICE car in '25/'26 when it'll be 12yrs old and just outside it's 100k miles unlimited time warranty (yeah, THAT was a heck of a thing - for a few years the manufacturer, Vauxhall - a GM subsidiary at the time - offered first owner from new a full 100k miles cover, no matter how long it took to get there). Anyway, the LY2 looks another interesting vehicle, and that's the sort of boundary I expect EVs to push, instead of just being an ICE that's been electrified. Check out the Citroën Oli concept for example. What are your thoughts about LY2, or even the Oli? It's going to be an exciting few years as the decade gets old!
I wish they made an RC Aptera lol. It would be a super sick collector’s item, could contribute to financing production, and would be fun. They could even throw on some cheap solar cells to imitate the real thing and charge the small battery. Just spitballing lol.
Amen🙏 And it can’t get much better for us in southern AZ . akso fortunate living in a home with PV solar that is Net Positive… even though Full Solar is our choice as we plan cross country trips occasionally I had a ride in Sol so …” Bitten by Aptera”💓
You hit all the advantages. Someone has to present this to Toyota as a cheap way to get back on the top off the heap by 2030. Like, hands-off investment of 100M, hey insider info and maybe access to the tech, supply chains for a 200+MPGe Prius EV.... A 4-wheel, 4- or 5-seat version of this will slay. Especially if they make it look something like the Valkyrie...
i wonder if aptera will do a yearly refresh or a gradual upgrade on its vehicles. Theres soo many new component companies thas poping up to increase the efficiencies. Ex. autoline network interviewed eLeap Powers in CES and showed off its new faster inverter.
I do like the aptera it’s kind a like my bike type of thing it’s a two seater and it’s a trike you should look it up it’s a Palmer industries twosome electric😊👍🏽👍🏽❤️ it’s a mobility device but it goes up to 15 mph for about 15 miles
I read that In-wheel motors have higher maintenance requirements around 25K miles or less for some kind of lubrication. Not a deal killer, but will add costs not discussed.
My guess is that if they have to raise prices it will be much closer to the delivery dates, when they will actually know the numbers they are working with with more precision.
Aptera seems the first company will actually love mods to the vehicle…would love a different steering wheel I agree. WOULD ALSO LOVE AT LEAST ONE MORE SEAT but can wait a long time for that.
I believe the Delta model has even more solar panels than the Gamma because of the extended Hatch design. 20+ I believe. Hoping it would increase the mileage per day to 50 miles with the solar charging.
I hope it does well in crash tests. Being that it has seats like a car, and people will use it like a car, it needs to be safe like a car. Since it has 3 wheels, you will probably need a motorcycle endorsement on your license to drive it (depending on your state). I hope it can be parked in a garage and plugged in, otherwise it has to sit outside all the time in the elements so it can charge.
Great vid. Some thoughts: 1.1. I wonder if they could make the drag coefficient even better by designing it more narrow. by changing the seat position. Instead of next to each other (shoulder by shoulder) they could shift the passenger seat some inches into the back. 1.2. or what about maybe make a 1 person center seated car with only 1 door for reducing cost. 2.1. also they use the in wheel electric motor from elaphe type m700. is it possible to use the smaller type s400. would it be cheaper or affect the range? just curious. I´m all about efficency i dont care about power and speed. Im ok if the ev would need 10 sec from 0-60mph and have a top speed of 80 - 90 mph if its even more efficient and cheaper. I would not mind to remove the inbuilt solarpanels to make it even cheaper and easier to produce. Range and the DCFC would be very important to me tho. 400miles and 100miles in 10 mins fast charging would be the bomb. This would be a perfect cheap travel ev
I think what we see here is amongst other things also the result of Munros consultation. I was always triggered by the 2 pieces of solar at the edges - way too complicated. Now, with the longer trunk-cover, it allows for a few more cells, easing up wiring and montage plus reducing the amount of panels, since the trunk does it. All in all a win, not only design and usabilitywise. Definitely the way to go, except for it to have only 2 seats.-/ (yaya, get it, it is part of the concept, but nothing for any family, unfortunately.)
@@n.brucenelson5920 I hope they‘ll do it. Let‘s see if it comes early enough for me to still be in a purchasing position. And they‘ll hopefully consider other regions than the US seriously as a valuable enough market.

@@orlandoterrazas2179 There is a "touch-less" car wash you drive into and this arm goes around the cars sprays water and soap and dries the car will work fine. (Just no wheel track car wash for Aptera)
The car looks awesome but safety is my concern. I feel safer in my Tesla m3 SR than my former daily driver, a 10k pound diesel H1 hummer. Safety was the final factor that convinced me it was time to switch to an EV. There is a big market for motorcycles that I figure this Aptera will fit in to well. Many motorcycle riders really value the nearly free cost of fuel (even though it is gas). The big sacrifice is safety, which for many potential buyers is the number one factor, but obviously not for the motorcycle or even bicycle enthusiasts.
I encourage you to play close attention the the crash test results when they are performed. I think that you will be pleasantly surprised at the performance.
It has a carbon fiber composite body ( 6X stronger the steel with an integrated roll cage. It also has air vags and crumple zones. I wousafety. for the crash test results before you make any assumption on its safety. .
But with the aptera you can’t have a power chair my mom is disabled and she uses a power chair and so it wouldn’t be great for her but that’s why we’re into the Cybertruck with the ramps!!😎🤯👍🏽👍🏽🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸
Aptera has said in the past that they are having trouble getting automotive "grade' reversing valves which would enable a reversible heat pump so resistive heating was likely necessary. The good news is that as long as it is taking Aptera to get to production, maybe the reversing valves will be available.
Im not a fan of the knock to open, Imagine knocking when theres a layer of ice on the exterior and it doesn't open. It just needs a simple aerodynamic handle

It'll work just fine because you can still plug it in and charge it like a normal EV. The solar offset will just be a bit less in some areas than others.

So I know, because I have the latest version of FSD/Full self driving, and I can tell you it is much improved over the initiate Version of FSD/Full self driving.
I have been watching them for a while and would really like to get one. I just hope the deliver to FL.
super excited for this to hit the road!
Not many, but then neither will the Aptera in most places.
Looking forward for mass production and a hub on the east coast.
Go aptera !!! industry trend setting vehicle others will follow .
I wish they made an RC Aptera lol. It would be a super sick collector’s item, could contribute to financing production, and would be fun. They could even throw on some cheap solar cells to imitate the real thing and charge the small battery. Just spitballing lol.
Would be a good way to add more public awareness to the project and increase hype, maybe draw over some investors too
Amen🙏 And it can’t get much better for us in southern AZ . akso fortunate living in a home with PV solar that is Net Positive… even though Full Solar is our choice as we plan cross country trips occasionally I had a ride in Sol so …” Bitten by Aptera”💓

I hope this company takes off more than all the EV trucks that are so inefficient
Maaan besides all the weird looks I'd love this to commute!
i wonder if aptera will do a yearly refresh or a gradual upgrade on its vehicles. Theres soo many new component companies thas poping up to increase the efficiencies. Ex. autoline network interviewed eLeap Powers in CES and showed off its new faster inverter.
Aptera is a continuous improvement company, and will phase in improvements as they are available.
What's you aptera referral code? I pre-order one asap.
It's in the description for the $30 off, that link includes his affiliate id
I do like the aptera it’s kind a like my bike type of thing it’s a two seater and it’s a trike you should look it up it’s a Palmer industries twosome electric😊👍🏽👍🏽❤️ it’s a mobility device but it goes up to 15 mph for about 15 miles
I read that In-wheel motors have higher maintenance requirements around 25K miles or less for some kind of lubrication. Not a deal killer, but will add costs not discussed.
I'm just curious if the prices will go up since they announced them because of the +20% inflation
I think there will be aftermarket products made for it after it's been around for awhile.
I wish there was back seats so I can pick up my kids from school. I want a daily driver I can drop kids to school and drive to work.
More than enough room for at least three kids in the back.
Something something station wagon joke.
Lay the kids flat under the parcel tray in the rear crumple zone. Ensure their seat belts are fastened for safety.
@@ricetune And right over the fuel tank - if the impact doesn't do it, the BBQ will...😁
@@ricetune that way the kids can further protect their parents by contributing to the crumple energy absorption 🤣
Well they can lay down in the storage area, kids will find that great fun .
I love when you talk about the Aptera thank you so much
How is reliability fit and finish and quality?
I believe the Delta model has even more solar panels than the Gamma because of the extended Hatch design. 20+ I believe. Hoping it would increase the mileage per day to 50 miles with the solar charging.
I hope it does well in crash tests. Being that it has seats like a car, and people will use it like a car, it needs to be safe like a car. Since it has 3 wheels, you will probably need a motorcycle endorsement on your license to drive it (depending on your state). I hope it can be parked in a garage and plugged in, otherwise it has to sit outside all the time in the elements so it can charge.
A 2 inch tow hitch receptacle would be nice for a Bike/Cargo rack or light trailer
It does have 7 feet behind the seats. You can fit one bike back there.
@@garywozniak7742 and not much else lol
Great vid.
Some thoughts:
They adopted NACS! Awesome!
The idea that transportation becomes nearly free after this vehicle is paid off is something more people should be aware of.
Worldwide, most people will get less than 10 miles range per day from the solar in my opinion.
The second Aptera planned is a 4 wheel, 5 passenger sedan.
@@n.brucenelson5920 I hope they‘ll do it. Let‘s see if it comes early enough for me to still be in a purchasing position. And they‘ll hopefully consider other regions than the US seriously as a valuable enough market.
@@pan6593 Thank you! Yes, Aptera is serious about other markets. RHD versions have been designed for a long time, and they have had a German homologation expert on board for over a year. I am sure that their European partners are nudging them in that direction, too.
Aptera and a cybertruck, ....maybe a few electric motorcycles......and a side-by-side, and that's all I need! I'm a simple man, of simple pleasures 😄
I’m addicted to electric unicycles, may want to check those out too they are getting good
I feel like when more people find out about the aptera, is gonna be known like the Prius is/was
I love this car so much!
Are they still keeping the knocking function? I heard they had confirmed some kind of rfid card(major disappointment.)
I am waiting for my preorder for the 600 mile range version.
Great summary!
Not convinced the straps on doors are for closing the door, but for what?
Actually, while you mention this, on the video Quincy closes the door not using the straps, but a bar or something akin.
I think the straps are to pull the door down until it's close enough to grab the handle.
@@Sqeptick That is not what the video shows at two different points. Actually, I am yet to see a person using the straps for that purpose.
Not an important point but I wonder if there is another purpose like support for side airbag later…
preordered thru your link
Enough prototypes. When are they for sale?
I’m just looking forward to the day where delta builds start showing up outside California for auto shows. I would definitely drive out of town to see it not fly across country though.
By this time next year, San Diego will be Ground Zero for solar mobility.
I agree
This is big Im geting one this is a money maker..
Love everything about the new design except the lack of rear window! Solar cargo van? No thanks give me a rear window and I’m sold.
i still cannot believe my eyes? who, in their right mind would want to look out on the street with a blocked view? this is absolutely amazing, the windshield view, appears to be purposefully chopped, go figure?
I wonder if you could use this as a camping vehicle, like some Prius owners do with their vehicles.
THEY HAVE DC CHARGING NOW. They listened, so now all cars will also have DC charge capabilities.
I mainly want a voice command button on the wheel. Everything else is optional IMHO.
Do not want yoke.
I love it. I want one. My kids are scared I will get one and pick them up from school in it!
YESSSS!
Only one of mine will still be at school when I get it, and she can't wait - she thinks it'll be cool!
You’ll have to pick them up one at a time unless you stick one in the cargo area. 😁I think they’d be rock-stars at school if their dad drove up in this!
Where's the skin cooling?
Those seats don’t have any side bolstering so they cannot be very comfortable
So when they start selling these ???🤨
Can Aptera go through a standard carwash with a push-pull ground tire track or is washing the vehicle a DIY task?
No. I asked the guys the last time I went to the car wash . After I showed them a video of the card they said no way.
You will have to take it to a "hand" car wash if you don't wanna get wet 😏
I guess one of those bays that have the spray wands will have to do.
@@orlandoterrazas2179 There is a "touch-less" car wash you drive into and this arm goes around the cars sprays water and soap and dries the car will work fine. (Just no wheel track car wash for Aptera)
@Todd Sterling Is it a nation wide chain ?
I wousafety. for the crash test results before you make any assumption on its safety. .
5 months later - can you finally buy it?
But with the aptera you can’t have a power chair my mom is disabled and she uses a power chair and so it wouldn’t be great for her but that’s why we’re into the Cybertruck with the ramps!!😎🤯👍🏽👍🏽🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸
This is the delta variant? When kraken variant?
Love it. I do want to know about snow performance.
I live in Iowa and will be getting an early model. I will be reporting after I take delivery.
Will it come with a heat pump? I guess there will be customers who want it but experience real winters every now and then.
Aptera has said in the past that they are having trouble getting automotive "grade' reversing valves which would enable a reversible heat pump so resistive heating was likely necessary. The good news is that as long as it is taking Aptera to get to production, maybe the reversing valves will be available.
I think they said it will have resistive heater fir now and heated seats.
A lot of magic numbers in this car according with the brand marketing. It will be great if the numbers are real.
Independent reviews of their numbers tend to confirm that they are close.
Im not a fan of the knock to open, Imagine knocking when theres a layer of ice on the exterior and it doesn't open. It just needs a simple aerodynamic handle
Curious to see how it with handle with stones entering the wheel cases, mud etc. Also curious to see how motors handle in real world stress like pot holes, etc.
I live in rural Iowa and plan to take delivery of an early Paradigm edition. I will report on performance on gravel and snow.

Production model or production render? 😄
it's a render of the production model.
This is practical the closer it is to the equator. I think this would not work at all in Canada.
It'll work just fine because you can still plug it in and charge it like a normal EV. The solar offset will just be a bit less in some areas than others.
I'm in Northern England, about 55°N - we get around 1500hrs full sunshine a year. It'll do fine, maybe need plugging to charge in winter, but even then there are sunny (but cold) days.
@@steinwaymodelb ‘a bit less’ being a LOT less.
Yeah, it might get only 20 miles a day of free fuel, instead of 40. Way different than "not work at all".
@@billman5379 more like 10.
im confused, you mentioned you want gear switching buttons. Its a EV why would it have Gears? Its direct drive in wheel motors...no gears lol.
I noticed that too. I think he means switching between P R N D.
Evs do not have gears..no reverse gear...only one, fixed reduction gear. Electric motors can be designed to spin forward and backward...no reverse gear necessary.
