As a diabetic with decades of wear-and-tear on my body, I am seriously considering going to the DVC. I've already made contact, and meet the criteria for treatment. Your videos on this have been a major influence in this decision, so thank you so much! I'm really glad it's helped you.
@@fullmotion2000 I didn't in the end. I spoke to a friend who works in stem-cell research, and he said the chances of it targeting the area needed are very slim. Also the chances of the body killing the cells before they can absorb is really high. So essentially it's pot luck and more likely to fail than succeed. He said the research is still in it's infancy, even after all these years.
Look into water fasting. Your body will produce its own new stem cells to repair itself. But as a diabetic talk to your doctor before you do this or go to a specialist fasting clinic.
From my understanding a stem cell is an "unassigned" tissue cell (so its a blank canvas, not like a skin or a muscle cell yet) and when they circulate your body they can adapt and grow into whatever they need to fill holes in. Kind of like polyfiller for your body xD
So could this type of therapy be harmful to somebody with a disease that is already altering their DNA and mutating their cells? I don’t know much about this therapy, but ai am trying to learn more because ai have several health issues. If you know, please let me know..thanks!
There are many types of stem cells in your body. Stem cells in the GI tract are usually quite active, because your intestinal epithelium needs to be renewed rapidly. So called mesenchymal stem cells are most likely what the doctors were claiming - there is no scientific proof how they work. There is also no 'master stem cells' that could repair every tissue in the body.
@@TheKatarinaGiselle Stem cell therapy is extremely multifaceted, and there isn't just one treatment. Even from the fundamental principle of "what is a stem cell", they start out with a different degree of differentiability (see totipotency, pluripotency, etc.) Injecting stem cells is a very vague thing to do. Stem cells often differentiate according to the cellular signals they receive, and thus the environment they are in. In this case, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are known to be sensitive to inflammation and sort of "home in on it". They're able to recruit the anti-inflammatory immune cells (i.e. promote differentiate of Tregs, inhibition of inflammatory cytokines, polarize macrophages into their more anti-inflammatory phenotype, etc.) and overall promote tissue regeneration. I wouldn't say that there is "no scientific proof how they work", but there are definitely mechanisms that haven't been elucidated. There is a huge amount of research being put into stem cell therapies, T cell therapies (see CAR T cells), antibody engineering, etc. Also, to address another point in one of the comments, technically totipotent stem cells can differentiate into any cell, (that being said, we don't really have access to true totipotent stem cells, we have access to different levels of pluripotent stem cells. The only true totipotent cells that ever exist are the from within the first few cell divisions after fertilization, they're just highly pluripotent afterwards. Typically, we say that stem cells can only differentiate into a cell with a lower level of differentiation, but again that isn't always true as there are research groups which have ways of recovering some pluripotency). I really think the point of my response is that stem cell therapies are extremely complex, and I've only briefly talked about stem cells and barely mentioned the concept of stem cell engineering. In a nutshell, stem cells are fascinating, cell engineering is super cool, and the immune system is wild
Yeah thats pretty much what they are hence the 'stem' part. Honestly surprised its not more mainstream, because stem cells have been known about for well over 30 years (if not more)

The ethical bit is interesting. Because on one hand, we have ethical arguments for abortion, and then there are other ways to get embryos (in vitro fertilization techniques create several embryos and only use one). I don't know where I stand on it, but the research is very interesting and the ethics aren't black and white.
