Thanks for reviewing a CMMG. I got my first Banshee in .45, then 9mm... then 5.56.... Then the Dissent came out, so I guess It'll be 4 before long. All of mine have been awesome.
CMMG continued to impress. They spend good money on consultants that give feed back in so their new designs before manufacturing. Great company with large selection of firearms.
I really like the charging handle being forward, No channel in the rear for gas to spit in your face while suppressed. I also really like not needing a buffer tube, it gives you way more option's on the rear. And the Fact that they designed this to work with a standard AR lower just knocked it out of the park for me. I want one.
This gun exactly how it is chambered in 5.7 is actually my dream gun as of now. I don't want it any bigger, longer, or anything like that. It suits what I want it to be exactly how it is
Amazing design. And I love that they didn't over engineer it. They were able to use a lot of available ar15 parts. I hope after the initial demand goes down these are more affordable. If they charged $1200 for these. They'd be backordered for 2 years
@Military Arms Channel I'm not opposed to a rifle version. But the whole point of making a design like this is to make it more compact. Now you can have major firepower in a backpack gun, a super compact design. That will be way thinner than a typical ar15 pistol with law folder
CMMG never disappoints. I remember watching a torture test on the Mutant and it went through 1255 rounds on full auto before the gas tube failed. Very impressive and a damn good brand!!👍👍
@Military Arms Channel it is a little heavy, but simplistic and affordable. Can't wait to get some rounds through it and compare it to my 8.5" Franken 300. I installed the strike dual folding adapter brace because I like the right hand folding option.
It's interesting we're sort of seeing the next generation of rifles attempting to replace the AR. Before it was the ARX-100, the Scar...big chonky sorts of guns with the quad rails. Now this generation of guns like the MCX, BRN-180, Jakl, this thing... are much more svelete.
@@idontwanttoputmyname403 yeah they're designed as evolutions for the civi market where as the other guns were military guns. I understand but I think many people knew what I meant.
@@austinpatkos7563 I wouldn’t really even call them evolutions personally. The BRN-180 is just a revival of the AR-18/AR-180 since brownells was on their retro kick and the market was there. And the JAKL is basically just “SCAR at home”. They’re not really designed to try and supplant the AR market the way the SCAR or the MCX and others have been, just to fill in what it doesn’t cover.
I really enjoy the longer video's, you give good information. Indepth in what it needs to be in tech information and interesting personal perspective. Also great insight to industry guys for practical improvement.
I just bought a Deadair Sandman S to shoot on my BCM 9” 300 BLK; loving the concept of a suppressed 300 BLK for self-defense. I am looking at picking up one of these or another side folder in 300. Great review MAC!
Ok, now I need to know why you wouldn't recommend an OSS can for 300BLK. I'd also like to see a comparison between this, the MCX and the new 300BLK JAKL. I considered the Dissent but when they released the JAKL in 300BLK I jumped on one. The MCX has been impossible to find...
Their internal geometry is designed around a particular regime of flow rates and pressures. Subsonics lay outside that regime. While they are fantastic with supersonics due to their high mass flow rate (and consequently, low backpressure) the same characteristics don't lend themselves to subsonic use. They're totally usable in a subsonic application, but they are not efficient at it.
The main reason is that sub-sonic 300BLK rounds don't produce enough gas to reliably run most actions. They require the additional back pressure that a suppressor provides. OSS suppressors are flow-through and don't provide enough back pressure. For example I have an OSS 7.62ti. With that suppressor my Rattler will only cycle with the hottest 220 grain sub-sonics and even then, not completely reliably. With a traditional baffle can (I was able to try it with a friends Dead Air Nomad) it ran everything I put through it including some wimpy 200 grain.
The 6mm ARC impresses me the more I learn about it. The shortcoming is the magazines. If Magpul releases a mag that works flawlessly and more ammo manufacturers start producing the round to drive the price down, it will really take off. You should test it with a short barrel. The short and chubby case allows for a quicker burn that favors a shorter barrel. A steel base at 80,000 psi would enable even shorter barrels. The military will probably adopt it to replace the 5.56 when someone does it. If CMMG reads this, release the Dissent in 6mm ARC and thank me later. (edit: I was thinking CMMG but typed PSA 😂. The Dissent and Jakl need a head-to-head comparison.)
Frankly, I would forget the high pressure, the beauty of 6 arc is that you don’t need a lot of powder to do the job. True velocity could make a polymer cartridge based on it that would solve the magazine problem. That said, nothing is stopping you to make a specialized load for a specialized rifle with amped up pressures on the same cartridge. What I think I would do is tuning the powder for a 10~11 inch barrels and make a specialty load at a slightly higher pressure for longer barrels if there is a need for it. The idea is something that can deliver high volume of fire and still be accurate instead of something that compromises so much to defeat level IV body armor. Ideally spending as little powder as possible to preserve barrel life (seems army has a tendency to not want to replace barrels these days).
@@sofloflow I'm not sure that is true. Barrel burnout is caused by unburned power igniting in the chamber or slower-burning powders used to maximize speed. Today's powders are moving towards faster and faster burning for short barrel performance. The higher case pressure in the new Sig round is mostly from faster-burning gunpowder.
@@user-pq4by2rq9y The True Velocity case is probably the future. It has many advantages on paper but needs more time to prove reliability for the Military. I would love to work on that project too. The thermal dynamics are vastly superior to brass. It makes me wonder why someone does not coat brass in a thin layer of plastic. A lot of people confuse the advantage of the higher pressure case with the way it has been applied. It could focus on increasing the velocity, which would result in a barrel burner as the powder is still burning down the barrel. Instead, they are using faster powders that can utilize shorter barrels. This is the opposite of a barrel burner. Think of it like this. A long slow burn pushes the bullet all the way down the barrel to maximize velocity-more time at higher pressures. A short burn is a higher pressure initially but doesn't keep pushing as much when the bullet travels down the barrel. Sure it could be used either way, but the way Sig designed the .277 fury, they use a faster powder that can use a shorter barrel. Hornaday is using faster powders in its Black series of cartridges. That's why you won't get a drop in velocity with shorter barrels as much as some of their legacy loads.
I think it was Larry Vickers that said the AR-180 was one of the most successful failures in the industry. The design was used in many countries like Japan, Singapore, UK, even Germany.
My only gripe with the Dissent is also the charging handle. Wish it had a folder or a dual folder. Kind of silly to have a slim, small package with a big charging handle sticking out.
Fixing what you just mentioned and making the lower receiver controls fully ambi would really make this thing stand out even more than it already does!
this I would pay 2k for. haven't found many that I would invest for. but the enclosed bufferless system in a complete package with standard parts for key components is awesome. while the specialized parts look very robust and should need little replacing. I already have 5.56 so I would keep that same caliber as I don't like a hundred different calibers around lol
Interesting little package Tim. Love seeing companies trying to put their own twist on the older AR180. Have a couple of the BRN-180s from Brownells. They're really cool setups. Agreed, CMMG should sell these in both pistol and rifle versions. Merry Christmas!
I bought a bunch of 300blk specific PMags for my 300blk firearms because I has problems with some 300 ammo getting hung up in 5.56 mags when loading more than 20 rounds, also getting specific 300 mags helps in not using the wrong caliber.
This video inspired me to DIY and I will try it tomorrow to cover up a Woodland design painted S&W AR15. It looks really nice, Im going with a darker green tho I got from hobby lobby but the rest is same as you. Thank you!
Cmmg shoud give the bolt more leght of travel. Making it longer backwards. This would give it less recoil and give the ATF the middle finger by making it kinda possible to shoulder it without a stock.

Did the SLR gas block come standard with the gun or did you add it? The SLR GB is a neat design, but I’ve had problems with them carbon locking up with suppressed 556s. Might not be such an issue with 300blk since it doesn’t produce as much excess gas as 556/223 when suppressed.
Got to shoot a CMMG Resolute 40SW, had feeding issues with certain weight bullets. Notice it has M4 feed ramps cuts and was curious why it doesnt have a single larger ramp or is it neccessary to have the m4 ramp?

That includes two barrels and the cost of having a barrel replacement. That being said, I'd buy the CMMG if I could justify three Blackouts. Something about it says, YES.
I believe Sig didn’t want the recoil springs to simply pop off the guide rods in the field. The MCX was designed for military use. The chance of loosing a spring in the field for a detailed strip was likely undesired.
What alot of people dont factor in with the MCX platform is that they are built to not need to replace any parts including springs and small parts for atleast 20,000 rounds. MCX>all others
@@MilitaryarmschannelCome on now! You just said the rattler was your baby????? Seems to me that CMMG is just as innovative and more consistent than Sig. Sure don't see them forcing customers to be unwilling and unpaid B testers for their often hastily released products.
To be honest, small arms solutions described the MLT MRP as a 4th gen ar15 platform. Mono rails, quick detatch barrel, other goodies. The dissent if done right could be onpar with the mrp.
So now CMMG makes a 16" barrel 300 Blackout version. Very tempting, although I would like to see 14.5" pin and welded versions with ASR flash-hider mount options. Why is SIG dragging their heels on 300 Blackout in a 16" (total) barrel length? I would prefer the short stroke piston over DI (easier to clean), pin/weld flash hider on 14.5", full length hand rail to but up against suppressor devices...and a folding stock option. Basically, as short as you can make it with short stroke piston and adjustable gas system for different loads.
Funny how PSA has the Jakl that is nearly an identical OS for $800 less you don’t get some of the fancy stuff the CMMG has like Ambi controls 🙄 and trigger tech trigger but for $800 less you can afford to put what you want on it. Myself I put a Giselle SST single stage in changed the grip to a better grip and SBRd it and still cost less than the CMMG 😅
Great video as always! Merry Christmas! Just made my search for a 300 BO more complicated but that's good. Question. Was the Marcolmar Cetme an attempt to copy the OG AR 180? And Wow! What a collector's piece.
Great video. I watched one you made years ago on Lucid HD7. Man you were young. I guess we all were once. Quick question, do you still have the Lucid and do you still like it?
I am seriously considering a purchase of this firearm. And I have been looking at the HUXWRKS Ventum 762. Why did you say you do not recommend the OSS HUXWRKS Ventum for 300 blk subsonic ammo? I am now considering the Explorr taper mount .300 at your recommendation. Thanks. The purpose of this set up for me is to be a truck gun.
You didn't discuss the barrel. Why are they making 6.5" barrel with a 1:7 vs 1:5 twist, and why 4140 steel? I realize accuracy is not the biggest concern on an short barreled pistol, but for $2K, I feel like the included barrel is a shortcoming, and also, if you put an aftermarket barrel on it, will there be any incompatibilities with the gas block/indexing etc? These little details matter.
Question: what’s the point of suppressor if you’re shooting super sonic ammo / high velocity ammo ?? I mean isn’t the whole point of a suppressor is to quiet the sound a bit ? But if you increase the speed of the ammo then isn’t it defeating the purpose of the suppressor ?? I understand if you’re shooting regular velocity or subsonic ammo then sure a suppressor is great .
I live in MD and would LOVE if they made an 11.5” version of this or the 5.56. (Rifles in MD have to be 29 inches overall regardless of whether or not it’s NFA. It’s stupid I know).
I recently discovered (the hard way) that OSS cans are not so compatible with 300 Blk subs. Not enough back pressure to run any but the hottest 220 grain loads in my Rattler with any reliability. So now I'm shopping for another .30 cal can, and looking for the best ammo to get me by while I wait for the stamp. Have you found any ammo that runs better than others in that unfortunate combination? Can suggestions?
I really liked your video with the watermelons and ribs. There are a lot of negative reviews however about the rattler having a lot of gas in the face. Is there anything that can be done to lessen that? I want to purchase one and run subs suppressed for home defense and this is the only thing holding me back from deciding at the moment.
@@brighthought11 the ballistics fall short of most 30 caliber cartridges. I have no application where I’d sacrifice energy for subsonic 300 blackout. Yeah sure, throwing rocks is pretty quiet to but I’m not going that route either
I just dont understand with a firearm with that short of a barrel what the drawback would be to have a piston or at least a cup on the end of the BCG that would keep the carbon out of the receiver. I get something like an AR10 that has much bigger parts that are heavier and would be more reliable gas blowback. I also get most people can not carry enough ammo with them to cause a malfunction due to carbon build up.
That reminds me of a Desert Eagle with the twin recoil springs and AR style rotating bolt. Only the DE has its gas piston on the front of the slide. I would like to see HK or one of the clone manufacturers bring out a 53 in 300 BLK.
For the price CMMG gets for their Dissent series of firearms it should be "neat." In fact it should be a lot more than neat. Being the pauper that I am I will have to stick with my PSA Jakl. A bit heavier and bulkier but less than half the price. Thank you PSA!
It’s a awesome gun and in my opinion better than sig just looking at how they designed it the question is how long and reliable is it and what is the weight compared to sig ? Definitely would be awesome in 762x39 in a 12” version and some 13.7”

I fully intend to get this as my first high end AR. For now, I’m enjoying my budget guns.
Bought one today for 1536.00 shipped to my ffl on firearms direct club
Funny how PSA has the Jakl that is nearly an identical OS for $800 less you don’t get some of the fancy stuff the CMMG has like Ambi controls 🙄 and trigger tech trigger but for $800 less you can afford to put what you want on it. Myself I put a Giselle SST single stage in changed the grip to a better grip and SBRd it and still cost less than the CMMG 😅
That new Law Tactical ARIC also closely resembles these systems
But the ARIC works only with Law’s folder (at this time).
Law tactical missed the point of not needing a full spring and buffer. Why would I want a buffer tube if I don’t have the buffer and spring in there?
Need a video of this vs 300 blk mcx vs 300 jakl
Thanks Tim! Fab review. ✅👏👍👊
Great video as always! Merry Christmas! Just made my search for a 300 BO more complicated but that's good.
Question. Was the Marcolmar Cetme an attempt to copy the OG AR 180? And Wow! What a collector's piece.
It's a completely different system, cetmes are roller-blowback like the G3, AR-180s are short-stroke gas piston.
It looks like a great gun. I will go with a standard AR-15 desig.
I love the 20th century rifles because before and after that all of them looked/look the same.
Hope you're staying warm, Tim!
The spring system reminds me of my M3A1 Grease-gun I carried back in the day.
Great video. I watched one you made years ago on Lucid HD7. Man you were young. I guess we all were once. Quick question, do you still have the Lucid and do you still like it?
What do you like better, the CMMG or the PSA Jakl?
That's in a coming video.
Please do a video with the MCX vs Dissent vs Jakl vs BRN180. I would love to hear your take on all of them togehter.
Good video brother. Merry Christmas
The gen 1 sig suppressors were so awesome !!!
I'd like to but a 10 5" upper if they sell those.
This will work on a standard ar lower I thought the uppers would sell seperately?
The cmmg would be interesting in an integrally suppressed rifle. In .300 blk. Maybe 350 legend.
Awesome comparison!
Sooooo, that “3D printed piece” at the back of the springs, what happens when it breaks? Like mine did after 500 rds. 😐😬
Would like to hear your thoughts on the GQ Paladin
I live in MD and would LOVE if they made an 11.5” version of this or the 5.56. (Rifles in MD have to be 29 inches overall regardless of whether or not it’s NFA. It’s stupid I know).
Hey, brother. Love your channel! I noticed you have a Tomlinson’s t-shirt on in your ad. Are you in the Busco area? I live in Whitley county.👍
I run an old octane 45... For subs it's fine, but for supers you'd need a bigger can. Tri lug tempted at the moment.
Even though I can’t afford one, it is definitely worth saving for. I’m a fan of this product.
One of my favorite movies “Silver Streak” has the AR-180 in it.
Your smile at 2:54 was so refreshingly genuine, so much of youtube is bullshit
I really liked your video with the watermelons and ribs. There are a lot of negative reviews however about the rattler having a lot of gas in the face. Is there anything that can be done to lessen that? I want to purchase one and run subs suppressed for home defense and this is the only thing holding me back from deciding at the moment.
Uh, just buy the Dissent already.
I was going to say the Rattler is the best
Yeah. It's a little beast for sure
I just don’t see the advantage of 300 blackout for any practical application.
@ Liberty Or Death
huh? what do you? please dont say 556
SOCOM seems to find it excellent
@@brighthought11 the ballistics fall short of most 30 caliber cartridges. I have no application where I’d sacrifice energy for subsonic 300 blackout. Yeah sure, throwing rocks is pretty quiet to but I’m not going that route either
@@TheREALLibertyOrDeath Saves your ears for home defense when I went down the rabbit hole for research.
Hm
CMMG has great quality products , but finding / getting anything from them is not easy !!!
For the price CMMG gets for their Dissent series of firearms it should be "neat." In fact it should be a lot more than neat. Being the pauper that I am I will have to stick with my PSA Jakl. A bit heavier and bulkier but less than half the price. Thank you PSA!
Between the CMMG Dissent, the SIG MCX LT and the Brownels BRN 180 what would yall say is the better choice?
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching.
Hows the reliability?
in 9mm would you like it better than the evo 3?
DI guns under water is not good. With all due respect, I will stick with my piston guns. Cleaner, less maintenance, and as or more reliable.
I hear ya there. Not a big fan of the AR bolt/extractor design either. Very delicate in my opinion.
This year I bought a Sig 516 and Brownells BRN4 HK 416 clone. I’m favoring the short stroke piston! I’ve owned about a dozen Direct impingement Ar’s
Thanks.
Interesting, thank you
I was thinking of moving to an AR 18 pattern gun can you exchange the uppers a like an AR 15. So same lower different caliber uppers, with in reason
It’s a awesome gun and in my opinion better than sig just looking at how they designed it the question is how long and reliable is it and what is the weight compared to sig ? Definitely would be awesome in 762x39 in a 12” version and some 13.7”
