@@thelastminuteman7513 That's kind of what we are bantering about here. It's an ambiguous term that gun controllers use and can't define. In this case, they'll say that our handguard is a barrel shroud. They pretty much want them all to be like traditional rifle stocks with barrels bedded into them, and not be surrounded (shrouded).
@@thelastminuteman7513 piggybacking off CMMG, the logic ban states are using is that any hand guard that covers the top of the barrel allows the shooter to hold the rifle in a tactical way (such as a C clamp hold) or protects the shooter from being burnt while holding it when the barrel gets too hot during rapid fire, which to them rapid fire would only happen in a scenario of criminal intent, like a mass shooting. So, their logic is if you remove all the accessories that make rifles more stable (adjustable buttstock and barrel shroud/hand guard), easier to fire (pistol grip, muzzle break) and less detectable (flash hider, silencer), while also limiting magazine capacities, active shooters are left with rifles that would be less effective in the criminal act of a mass shooting, therefore making mass shootings less likely to occur.
