So, what is the CMMG Dissent MK47?
I have no idea. I know what it’s a combination of, but what it is exactly, I have no idea. And you know what? I’m okay with that because, if nothing else, it’s cool.
But if I were going to give it the old college try to examine what it is, it’s a rifle chambered in 7.62x39 with a 14.3-inch barrel, which on the surface sounds like an AK-47 until you find out it has a short-action direct impingement system. So now you see why I have no idea what this thing is.
I guess the easy way to explain it is to call it the result of an AR-15 and AK-47 bumping uglies and forgetting to pull out. I’ll let y’all choose which rifle forgot to pull out.
Whichever one it was, it doesn't matter because it seemingly takes all of the good parts of each rifle and throws out the bad, causing me to ask the question: Is this mutant of a rifle a better AK-47 than an actual AK-47?

I work at CMMG as a precision machinist/CNC programmer. I am so happy to see the Mk47 Dissent finally in the hands of people such as yourself after helping produce many components for the rifle.
I love my mutant pistol and my banshee in 45 acp with 5 inch barrel. I love my cmmg’s and hopefully one day I will add the dissent
Love the rifle but the cost is a little much.
It would have been great when ammunition was a bargain but hey, it’s a .30 caliber 🔫😎👍
How was schooling to become a machinist?
Was actually really easy. I went to a place called State Technical College of Missouri and it was a 2 year program that felt like an extension of high school. Would recommend the field to anyone cause the need for machinists is everywhere.@@Token_Black_Guy
Colion is a true American and great ambassador for the 2nd amendment. Keep up the good work, we appreciate your monster efforts in everything 2a related.
Man he represents the black community good to, we usually get portrayed as hooligans w glocks and switches, and here you have a lawyer who likes refined luxuries and has good gun taste and regularly goes on news channels and debates. Hes all round a good person and excellent pillar of the black community
I’ll 2ND that
@@unclemike5840I see what you did there 🏆
He says whatever you pay him to say. He's a shill.
🇳🇬
Reffered to as the AR-47 by The New York Times
Are they wrong though? 😂
Is that bad marketing? Kinda makes me want to get a 2nd job.
That's too accurate for the NY Times.
Chambered in 7.62 BMG (browning MACHINE GUN). Fully Semi-Automatic that you don't need any specific license or training to purchase.
NYT: "Grandma-Murdering full-semi-assault crimewave gun, responsible for the death of 22653879205 police officers in the last week, alone."
Colion has a very unique way of presenting guns on his channel, it feels more like he's talking about a car than a gun. And let's not forget he does more than just gun reviews, he also does interviews as well. I'm both a gun enthusiasts and a car enthusiasts, no joke but it feels like I'm watching an episode of Motor Week! So for me his show is like the best of both worlds! Keep up the good work.💯
It’s basically the ACR in 7.62x39 we were promised.
I really hope they add ambi and redesign the mags 🙏 this shit would be perfect. And they're awesome at mag design.
Thank you! At least I'm not the only one that sees the ACR.
ARK
My first thought!
The stock is ACR style. But the promise of the ACR was multiple quick change calibers in one platform
Ain't a colion video without a $2000+ gucci gat.
That is an incredible piece of equipment. That is a great tool to have.
BRN-180 upper in 7.62x39. Wolfpack Armory lower.
You lose non-recip charging handle, and gain adjustable gas. And you can have it in 10.5".
I have the 2nd gen of the MK47... it's a blast to shoot, and at the time.. Was around $1300... I only had 3 minimal complaints... The lock back of the bolt to the rear was one of them...
However, the rifle is fun to shoot, and does get attention at the range by other shooters...
My buddy has the same issue w/ the bolt. Mailed it in to CMMG and they fixed it for him
"Aww man I'm out of ammo" my feeling on most range days! Hahaha
It was a fun caliber when the ammunition was a lot less expensive, now almost the same as 5.56x45🤷♀️
Yeah, the good old days. Now the cost advantages are lost so why even bother?
Exactly. Bought my npap for $550 8 years ago, it’s over $1000 today. Sold it for that to a panic buyer.
@@riboflavinfolate3964Well it thumps target with much more force. 5.56 will make 10” plate ring. 7.62 will proceed to eject the plate from the hooks almost flipping over hanging bar. Run that with hollow points and your going to stop about anything. If I was back areas, pick 7.62 or 10 mm with hollow points.
Exactly
One of the ONLY benefits to being Canadian. We accept crap tons of Chinese firearm imports so we have genuine Type 81s, and an endless stream of dirt cheap, crap Chinese ammo.
Granted we’re WAY WORSE off in just about everything else under the sun, but we have cheap 7.62x39
make it in 6.5 grendel and push for contracts. I would love to see this go through some endurance and reliability tests.
This looks fun!
If it weren't for the price tag I'd buy it right now.
Look at the PSA KS47 , less $$ for a similar idea.
@@ratroute8238 PSA has a Jakl that shoots 7.62, but they won't release it yet.😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
@@youngspectre5356Soon, last I heard they are running it through tests. Making sure any issues are addressed first.
It kind of lost me with the folding stock. I'm not a huge fan of folding stocks. Could be because I carried an M-16A2 for 10 years and it didn't come with the folding stock option. The plain old fixed stock fits me just fine and it's what I'm used to.
@@ratroute8238 my current AK is a Palmetto AK-103
I absolutely love it! It's a great rifle for it's price. I'd consider the buying the KS-47 as well.
The back looks like a Scar, the middle looks like an AK, and the front looks like a typical AR. 🤷♂️ called a FrankenK
I love FrankenK
It was originally called the CMMG mutant
Someone mentioned that they could call it the ARK.
"It's almost like a Mutant."
I see what you did there.
Colion, it doesn’t lock back because magpul magazines do not possess a magazine follower that act as a bolt hold open like on AR-15/AR-10 magazines. I would try some Serbian or Croatian magazines that have followers that allow for bolt hold open capability to see if it will work. On a side note, I would buy this rifle if it had a CHF chrome lined barrel. For $2k, it should have what a Galil ACE has. I also wish they offered the 14.3” without the pin and weld (as a pistol), to make it easier to install what muzzle device we want.
Colion is 100 % right on . Even though his hands and arms flail around more than an entire community of Italians anytime he speaks . . Hooked up to a generator 2 minutes of talk from him could power the average home for an entire day . In any case good to have him on our side . Just don't stand too close to him anytime he speaks .
He's a lot like a lot of my French Canadian relatives that way. My grandfather couldn't tell a story if his hands weren't moving a mile a minute.
That’s a sweet tool , probably won’t ever be able to afford one but I do have a PSA KS-47 , maybe the next best thing and more on a blue collar budget.
I have one and its great. Anyone who has shot it really likes it. 10 oz buffer and you correct the ejection issue.
I have a PSA KS47 16, cut to 14-ish with a 2 inch break. Gibbz upper with non-reciprocating side charging handle. Never had an ejection issue.
I know blue collar guys making 180k a year, ask yourself what you could be doing better.
The problem is that it is out of reach for the majority of us blue collar workers. $2200.00 That sucks.
Not really… tax time, save, or buy sell and trade guns to get to it. Very easy and that means something considering the state if the economy. Now if you’re bad with money or living above your means then yeah it probably is.
Anything over 1500 is unnecessary for me
@@fro-yo-momma7082 depends how bad i want the gun, I’m not into crap for $2000-$3000 but if its an iconic gun or something I know is worth it then i HAVE to have it.
All CMMG guns are expensive. This one is no exception but they aren’t the only ones that make 762 ARs, but likely the best!
This. It's a cool gun for sure but it doesn't do anything that a gun half it's cost can't while being more time tested. Hell you could get a 7.62x39 Galil for less and that's about as good as it gets for the caliber imo. If it were $1500 this would be a maybe. For $2K+ it's a hard nah dawg.
Wasn't the SIG 556 XI also designed with the idea of a ak/ar crossover
Think Military Arms Channel covered that in some depth. Some of those were warranty nightmares
It’s just a commercial offshoot of the Sig550 line. So basically an AK going back to being more of an AK. There isn’t a single drop of stoner blood in the Sig 550 line.
New rattler comes in 7.62 now
Careful Colion they might just say based on how fast you can squeeze the trigger that your finger is a machine gun 😂
Video editing is awesome here. I feel like I'm watching a mix between The Martian and Colion just talking.
That's OK Colion, I'll stick with my Colt 7.62x39 upper.
Otherwise AK parts kits were inexpensive at one time and even purchasing a premo kit, building one is about 30% of the cost of this rifle.
I've built about 25 AKs and 25 AR15s over the last 20+ years. It's still affordable to build AKs if you don't mind starting with rougher kits and can do your own blasting, parkerizing and or spray finishes.
@@JohnDoeEagle1
i use to do zinc and magnesium phosphate, but the time involved wasn't worth it IMO in the log run. Started doing Gunkote and never looked back. The flat black looks just like phosphate.
The premium kits weren't just nicer on the outside, most were new guns cut up for importation, so the barrel, trunnion and bolt/bolt carrier, and top cover were all matching numbers.
Matching number Russian, Bulgarian, and Romanian Krink kits sold for under $350. Slap the required US parts on and good to go.
When you refer to "building" an AK does that mean the same thing as building an AR and just putting it together? It seems like it would be actually building and less assembling with an AK.
@@30rdmaga Unlike an AR, if you purchase a premade receiver, you still have to do the drilling for the trunnion rivets, then rivet both trunnions to the receiver. Otherwise, building from a flat requires bending, machining, heat treating, spot welding and riveting before pressing the barrel to headspace.
AR assembly paying attention to details, 2 hours including torquing the barrel nut. Building an AK that's fitted tight, 6-8 hours and a fair amount of tools and skills not required on a AR.
I am a fan of the AK platform...I own a Bulgarian and a Zastava M70. That said...your Colt and any AK you want to build from parts....will not hold a candle to this rifle.
That effect of having coloin move while the gun was static was excellent
Right!.. It was surreal..
looked like NASA mission footage…But, unlike NASA’s footage, Colin’s was Real🤙🏻
I have the Mk47 Pistol with an 8 inch barrel. It’s a durable gun, 10 k rounds with minimal repairs needed. Two extractors, buffet spring, and a firing pin is all.
I love a good Buffet 🍲🤣
As an AR shooter I don’t like not having the last round bolt hold open, but I’m sure that’s just something to get used to. That would be the only thing I’d change everything else sounds awesome
I feel ya. The only thing I don’t like about the AK is that lack of a last round bolt hold open feature. I don’t want to find out my gun is empty by squeezing the trigger and then having to reload. When I squeeze the trigger, I want a round to go off. I don’t want a click. I just can’t get over that.
If you don't let your mag run down it's not an issue. Better to reload when you want to then when you have to.
@@matthewconnor5483
I’m not trying to count rounds and shoot at the same time. Hard pass on the AK platform. That’s too much to concentrate on.
@@leroyjenkins4811
You have to run specific mags to get the bolt hold open. Not ideal but there is an option.
Agreed. The only thing that makes the AR15 charging handle barely acceptable is you only need to use it once in a session, not once per mag.
As cool as non-reciprocating charging handles are, I would rather have one that reciprocates. The reason is geared more towards reliability. The question becomes what happens when the weapon starts to jam up and doesn't fully go into battery? The AR10/15 solves the problem with the forward assist however, it's not a perfect fix. I can almost hear someone reply to this saying, "you shouldn't ram a round into the chamber for X reason." or "if the weapon doesn't go into battery on it's own then you have a problem and ramming a round into the chamber won't fix it."
My answer is threefold.
1. Most firearms go into battery with more force than most humans are capable of. You cannot hurt the gun in this manner.
2. Yes. If a firearm fails to go into battery on its own, you have problem. That problem can be a light powder load, a weak recoil spring, gas system failure or even an overfull magazine.
3. In the heat of the moment in which one's life is on the line, they don't care what the issue is. The weapon needs to work. If ramming the bolt forward keeps them in the fight, they will do so.
With the previous MK47 there was also the hybrid manual-of-arms issue. I've I'm gonna rock-n-lock then I want a side charging option on the bolt carrier like Bear Creek offers on their 7.62x39 offerings.
this is basically my dream gun so i bit the bullet and ordered one last week. got it in their 'charcoal green'. hopefully it looks good in person!
And if your on a budget you can get you can get the PSA version that also uses AK mags and shoots great!!
exactly.
PSA KS47 fits in the same basket as this rifle, for a whole lot less $$.
If you are worried about the bolt carrier a spare can be had for around $130 and PSA has a lifetime warranty.
PS The VZ 58 kinda fits in there too...
Look like a M.A.K-47 or MAK-47, maybe MKA-47, you think its new rifle or custom?.
I'm ordering one either for the holidays or after I file my taxes! I definitely want this rifle!
Better get on thaat waiting list haha. BaCk OrDeR
Just get an ak.
The way you SMACKED the two guns into each other made me wretch and reel
I own one of the first CMM mk47 mutants with the actual guide that says mutant. Wish they didn’t get in trouble for using that name.. but that has been one of my favorite guns to go shooting with because it runs everything I don’t have the new and improved version but I can only imagine because the old one is awesome. Would like the new one but for $2100 probably not. I got mine for 1200.
They got in trouble for the MUTANT name? I thought they just rebranded all their naming overall.
It’s basically a SCAR in 7.62x39. What is the maximum range on it?
Range would be determined greatly by the round. 7.62x39 struggles to get to targets at 600m
It’s not piston driven like the scar. And whatever 7.62x39 is out of a 16” barrel. 500 ish probably
300 yards max
What is the maximum range? It’s not an ICBM.
You can shoot a 16 inch AR-15 that shoots a 5.56 at 500 yards easily and hit an able target. I have seen AK-47’s only reach 300-400 yards. So the reason that I ask is because I really have not seen RUclips’s of anyone shooting long range with an AK?
Reminds me of the Sig 7.62 back in the day. It was a 7.62 version of the Sig 556. It's and AR-AK is the simplest way to think of it.
This gun is essentially a faxon ARAK 21
It's not better. If they wanted us to buy a better AK, they should've priced it more reasonable than north of 2k
Low production volume rifles are not cheap to make.
Wow, that's the asking price? Considering that 7.62 isn't a dime a dozen like it used to be, make it even less appealing unfortunately.
AKs prior to five years ago were excellent buys. A npap was $600 and ammo was less than 9mm. That same rifle is $1000 and ammo is as much as 556. Todays best AKs are just parts kits fitted together and they are nearly $2000. No thanks Jim
Yeah the galil is a better ak. Its over 2k too.. just sayin. I have both 7.62x39 and the .308 gen 2 galils
It is most certainly better.
We have something similar in Canada called the Lockhart Tactical Raven in 7.62 x 39 except for the fact that it uses a full buffer assembly. Other notable platforms up here are the WS MCR, Kodiak Defense, and the SRV2 Siberian.
What? Do you guys still have guns up there? Amazing. I'm surprised Justin Castreau hasn't yet sent the military door-to-door to collect the rest of them.
@@JR15A2 It's on his agenda yeah, but we still have some cool stuff up here. Including the Type 81.
*Colion Noir* Bravo well done, thank-you sir for taking the time to show us. GOD Bless.
I heard that PSA is coming with a 7.62 Jakl and to be honest that AR/AK baby looks pretty familiar.
Reminds me of the Galil
The galil is too old, i don't think its still selling in the gun store.
Excellent video. I swear I learn something new everyday. Today, it was the mk47 and finding out the 7.62x39 is a better hunting round than the 223/556.
Love everything about this gun, aside from the no last round bolt hold. They should really figure that out, especially for the money it costs
That’s a magazine thing..
CMMG is up there as one of the most advanced designers. I only hope I can one day own a few.
What is you favorate SMG and Assault rifle, man.
Marques Brownlee of gun world.
It's fine to like the new thing. But until a new thing has a proven track record it is silly to ask if it is better than the thing that's been serving over a hundred militaries for over half a century.
Yeah but is the old reliable thing throwing sponsorship money around.
If 7.62x39 could still be bought in crated spam cans for 8 cents a round I might be interested.
Colion noir flexing on his fans who can't afford each gun he buys
He doesn't consistently explain his relationship to the firearm. I'm lean toward thinking he got this sent to him from CMMG to make content. A lot of creators recently either got sent one or a paid trip to their facility recently to try them. -edit I'm betting he's gonna have to send it back with the video being complete
@@411DL CMMG sent it to him. He mentions it but at the end of the video.
This is also the same man that has reviews out for the LCP and some Taurus guns. I don't think I have heard too much negative from his "reviews". Anybody that says anything positive about the ruger LCP was incentivized to do so.
The grin and laugh after "It's a mutant" was perfect.
One thing I don't like is the fact that it doesn't have the LRBHO.
Does it hold 1000 rounds in the chamber, have a telescoping thing that goes up, and take a fully semi-automatic clip?
Also completely vaporizes elephants
@@Rubeless Well of course that ;]
You're vid's are always educational and well informed. Keep at it man
For the price? No.
Right..
Agree! For me is not that I can’t afford it but for what it is, the price makes no sense. You are basically getting a dissent that shoots 7.62x39 but mainly, I am not a fan of the cartridge
@@vicdiaz5180 Especially since the ammo isn't as available as it was a few years ago.
Cmmg gotta be the sponsor this evening 😂😂
Is this the AR 14 Biden talked about? Or was it an AK 16, or ….
I was looking at this gun to buy, live about an hour from CMMG headquarters and this just sealed the deal for me!
Beginning of this clip was awesome with your first rifle, the Dissent, and that beautiful Pinzgauer behind you.
Built 3 AR’s In 6.5 Grendel for that price. Grendel ammo costs way more but at least you get a real battle rifle you can take deer with at 300 yds too.
Remember when 7.62x39 was $200 a case? RIP
That's me 100% I love the AR platform, yet my heart is set on 762.39 ammo.
Only thing I don’t like is that the stock flips to the ejector side. I would prefer if it went the other way. Confusing that you can’t change it
I think the term you were looking for might be a ‘chimera’ as it has features from different platforms that work together
Yes! I love my pistol Mutant. Bought it at the same convention in Indiana that I had the privilege to meet you at.
Adam's arms piston rifle is something you should look into .
GAAHHHHRK!! Lost me at price point, but I'll let the video run to spite Screw Tube.
My only question is how the di system holds up to the most corrosive junk ammo since you can't exactly clean the inside of your gas tube every time.
Two new guns I want:
-CMMG MK47
-Kalash SR1
Then two Bullpup dreams that I want:

AK-47 meets AR-180 and AR-15.
Love your videos.
Kind of reminds me of the PSA JAKL but in 7.62x39
Was anyone else thinking, “didn’t galil ace gen 2 already do this?” I know this is direct impingement but it didn’t really help it in the weight department. Sure this has a non reciprocating handle and the galil doesn’t. Sure this thing has a single stage crisp trigger and the galil has a spongy two stage. Ok. I just talked my self into trying this!! Lol
I bought the cmmg mutant when it first came out. I would say it’s one of my top 3 rifles.
I like the term chimera better than mutant
Kickingbird, "It looks good, but how does it smoke"?
Colion, "Smooooth!" ❤
I like how he skipped over the MSRP. Here is the price: $2,399.95
I hate not being in your tax bracket buddy😂! Good vid tho if I hit the lottery you sold me😂
I wouldn't say better, but it's a very nice mix between the 2 platforms, would be nice to have a piston driven system but hey, I want this rifle haha
TWO
THOUSAND
FOUR HUNDRED
DOLLARS LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
PSA KS47 less than 1/2 the price...
That MSRP though… I think I will stick with my Galil ACE Gen 2.
NO SHIT, GOOD CHOICE, I THINK I'LL DO THE SAME.
Would love to see a comparison between the Dissent and the Resolute mk47.
I use CMMG stripped uppers and lowers for my AR builds. Just make your AR piston driven...
Their buffer less uppers are meant to snap right on regular AR lovers
Its a PSA KS-47 with AR-180 upper. Another clarification is its an AR-180 with a AR modified lower designed to take AK style magazines. Wonder if Colion knows about the KS-47. Sure there are fans nearby, make sure its running a 10 oz buffer with a KS-47 bolt minimum. Also Gen 2 PSA KS-47 has bolt lock on empty.
Ha ha, cmmg refuses to call it The Mutant anymore, I love hearing it called that again
At a $2k price point, this is only worth it if I had a couple hundred AK mags lying around.
That's a bad ass rifle, an AR that takes AK mags. Love the 7.62×39
Nothing new.
wow that was some high praise. I think they are on to something with that DI + compact bolt & spring design.
WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!! AK47 will always be the original and never be replaced. I love everything about it. I also love the Galil Ace and cmmg enhancements
Cmmg makes the good stuff. Hopefully they do roll things out slowly like they mentioned (for short barrel versions) having a gun that runs good out of the box isnt as common nowdays , but they got the magic sauce.
It's almost like someone figured out that the best thing about the AK design is its magazine, and all the rest of it is up for debate. What I'd like to see on this one: 6mm ARC/6.5 Grendel chamberings with AK-style mags designed for those cartridges, an exposed, integrated flip-up front sight (A2 front post, round protectors)/adjustable gas block (suppressed/normal/adverse), and a reduced-diameter handguard beyond the gas block, with a place to mount lights/lasers over bore.
Waited almost a yr for my sbr mutant. Worth it
Man I love how this looks. Gotta get one now.
Bro! I’m jealous I don’t have it looks sweet love it.
Yes, but how does it compare to the long piston gun like PSA Jakl? What if you divide by price?
Very sweet piece Palmetto state has there version of the jakyl 7.62 x 39 on the way also , Thanks for all you do ! Keep ringing that steel
The point of the AK is that all controls are direct and unbreakable. If something gets stuck, you bang a lever against a tree until it's unstuck. You pay for this in ergonomics compared to the AR, but you can always unstick an AK, whatever the malfunction.
So when you make a 7.62 AR, it's "just" as AR in a different caliber. Might as well go with 300blk except for price difference.
2200 and still no bolt hold open??😂 No thanks I’m good. Thanks for the video though
7.62x39 meets AR meets HK..i like the charging handle being on the side like the G3
