New subscriber. In Iraq, I always rolled with a Tac Tailor split front LBE rig over my slick body armor which carried 12 mags two grenades dump pouch camelback admin crap, and tools. Only our LT had a radio, so the radio issue never came up for us out in the field. Some guys loaded up their rigs with everything possible, and as you know, that is not ideal. One other advantage on the FOB was that sometimes, depending on the threat level, full PPE had to be worn, even just walking around. So the guys with the fully loaded body armor had to carry about 30 extra pounds on those days. I, of course, only had to wear the slick vest.
Ever since I first started buying kit, my philosophy has been scalability. I’ve been able to carry 9-10 mags with a chest rig and a slickster, and I’ll always have ammo when I need armor, even without a chest rig. Now I’ve swapped out for basic belt kit, where I have basic fighting and life sustainment, and then I can add placards onto my slickster to add more.
@ yeah the way I see it, it’s very unlikely I’ll ever need to don my rucksack and rifle and go do grunt stuff in the woods, most likely worst case scenario is the cities and surrounding areas become lawless hellscapes, either officially or unofficially. Getting stabbed in the side by a crack head is more likely than Russia invading from the skies, and tbh Russia is gonna have its own crackheads, I think the end as it presents itself now is not gonna be through mutual destruction, it’s gonna be through isolated despair, we’re all just gonna degrade in our own countries until something massive happens. There might be a world war but people will go home at the end with no money, no plan, trauma, no prospects for the future, probably substance issues, and home will be a country on the brink, and instead of a huge revolution like the Russians had or a massive economic boom like the Americans had, we’re just gonna fizzle out. So it’s not gonna be getting into gunfights with near peer adversaries, it’s gonna be carrying a PDW under an oversized jacket while you wait in line for bread because pistols aren’t sufficient for the organized gangs that now operate openly and are essentially they’re own militant force
I would like to address the fact that a good in-between capability are split front chest rigs. In my head canon, even if I'm wearing rifle plates, they're ideally under an overshirt (i always wear flannels for instance). So running something super quick to don/doff like a gunbelt with a couple rifle mags, some medical, and the bare necessities is ideal. If i needed to up that capability, something that doesn't directly interfere with the belt interface that allows me to prone would be the dream, and I think split rigs provide that niche.
@@thathackerguy117 sure! It is the Onetigris placard and the panel is the CONDOR LCS VAS HARNESS KIT and I just have a SPUD pouch for magazines and GP pouch, then I just added some shoulder pads from a PC I had
It's good seeing actual info, not the guntoober usual bullshit. They never mention wearing the pieces of gear together. Bought a bunch of useless shits but i reorganized it all. So, i have a chest rig+ rucksack loadout for innawoods, and a Plate carrier + tactical vest for the city. Why ? A tactical vest offers slots for belt and chest placement for 20$.
@@TacticalJay. yes! It does work although I’m not sure I would recommend since it is so tight for reinsertion is pretty difficult and you have to be careful not to pullout both mags when you do
@ thanks I think it might be better with metal mags but I have one worry if you have the mags in the pockets without the shock cord retention do they flop easily or can they fall out when running / jumping ?
@ they’re both good choices although I would consider a few things. The TREX would most likely be of better quality and ran with GP pouches you could carry more gear that way. The thing with the tegrisOne is that the pouches on the front your mags can make you a bit bulky on the front and the magazine slots aren’t the best as far as retention

Short answer, Yes Long answer, every other military than the US knows this and practices this. Chest rigs are great for the mostly mounted nature of operations where the supply chain is going to be there. Look at the Ukraine, those guys have a million pouches and bags on them for long term statement. The US has been fighting a very different kind of war, and when we go back to fighting near pears in a conventional ground war, it will take years of casualties for the Army to change it's mind
@@ugahdugha absolutely, although a lot of the footage coming out of Ukraine is both sides wearing plates in conjunction with their kits so I’ve been exploring that route lately

That's about my philosophy.
EDC, battle belt, slick carrier, chest rig, rucksack.
Able to scale up or down as needed.

a fix for the comms issue is to just have it at the rear of your carrier on the cummerbund. that way its still slick in the front
