This seem to be a 6b23-1 made in early 2000's they literally were designed to come with steel plate until the were replaced by 6b23-2 with ceramics and then 6b45 with ratnik series. These haven't been in use since 2016 only issued to internal troops and even they switched to 7Б-ВВ carrier. It just seems you have been scammed.
Its not a 6b23, 6b45 or 6b46 idk what it is but its neither of them, i own a pair of 6b23 and multiple friends in rusfor community that has 45 or 46. On top russia hasnt had steelplates a standard issue since the 6b23, 45 & 46 are ceramic now plus a new version (-2) had place for ceramic plates instead of the older -1 steel plates, but nothing visually changed. Also russia doesnt have "standard issue" MoD give soldiers the option to buy the ratnik equipment or they can buy from third party shops like ars arma or fort etc.
@nordendavinci No that is the whole point of the ratnik program in 2020 it was already reported that 300 000 sets of have been delivered and by the 2022 all contractor soldiers are given . It was even confirmed by TASS and Armyrecognition in late 2020 for those numbers .

Obviously not standard issued bodyarmor… 6b45/46 are hard but not impossible to get your hands with, other Russian brands like Ars Arma, MBC, Stich Profi are easy to get
It's standard issue, but not for army. It's Кираса ПУ for border control service of FSB. Also, plates are more important than pieces of fabric. Гранит is still the most durable ceramic plate in production. And, it's doesn't matter in what kind of fabric it's wrapped in, until it's can hold the weight of that plate.
Your two "guests"...seem pretty full of it. Find it odd in how they spoke and explained about armor...no one talks like that in the manner they do if they knew (not read or saw online) what they were talking about (veterans would know). Its funny to see from what Data what things "should" do vs what happens when you mix steel AND kevlar...who would have known! Sound like the typical LARPer/Civilians that are experts on body armor and never dawned them or seen their effects in 2 way ranges. Great work and testing though!
Interesting the two weight watcher members are talking about the green plate not covering vitals while they both are wearing 10 x 12 plates same size as the green plate. 😂
Bullet splash. When a bullet hits a hard surface such as steel, the (relatively soft) bullet will fragment and send bullet fragments off in different directions. The only difference here is that a bullet travels so fast with so much potential energy, that those shards are still deadly dangerous. Spalling. Whilst bullet splash occurs on the side of the impact, spalling occurs on the opposite side. Spalling is the fragmentation of the target caused by the impact of the projectile, not fragmentation of the projectile itself. Spalling is not caused by the bullet penetrating the target, but the target deforming in a way that allows the rear of the target to fragment.
I'm currently working on hybrid armor using d3 layers and woven hemp fibers behind all of that I have filler layers and hexagon printed plates which at the center have a H shaped link going through the entire vest I plan on doing a little more investing
Based on the injury pattern reports that I have heard I wonder if going back to the full flack vest with plates that were common in the beginning of the second gulf war would be the better way to go.
Everyone dogs on the older style "IOTV" with the extra kevlar...#1 killer is fragmentation and explosions...not bullets. It's not like we've been fighting explosions for the past 20 years either...Canadians would know, they bled with us. You should also know Norway, you were our Auxiliary in Afghanistan. Thank you
A H&K G3. That weapon still working says it all. Solid gun, outdated, but solid one. Likely from my country (PT), Sweden, Greece or even Turkey or, unlikely, Germany itself. We're finally phasing out all the rest we had in operational roles in our Marines for the H&K 416A5 and likely some 417A2 as DMR and fire supressor for longer distances. Last time i saw a real war in my country (although deployed still to Iraq in 1991, Afghanistan before we got the army FN SCARs (L and H and H-PR) and in the minusca as we only deployed tier 2 SOF, commandos and paratroopers, as the UN QRF, again before 2020, the last time, i say again, it saw real war for the last time was in Africa during the colonial war which ended 50 years ago in 1974. I love the gun, but like everything it's prime is long gone and no SPHUR kit will change nothing in a decisive manner. But if it still helps Ukraine in some roles, go for it. Heavy, outdated, but reliable as heck. (edit: not a PT G3, ours - built on PT under H&K license since 1961 to the late 1980's, the common ones know as G3A/3 - fixed buttstock - and G3A/4 retractable Buttstock - were all made in selective fire which also includes full auto fire and not only semi auto - but I do know we gave a lot of them hundreds, large hundreds, to Ukraine)
I think everyone has dogged steel plates for the last 10 years people have forgotten that they will in fact stop a lot of threats however it’s dependent on how hardened the steel is, and that showed with your hypothesis that 556 ball ammo would penetrate the plate. I also see the theory behind wrapping the plates in Kevlar to catch the spall but who knows if that actually works.
These guys are regurgitating old information regarding steel plates. The process manufacturing steel plates since 2018 has drastically improved. There is video evidence that proves steel plates will stop what these guys claim they won't. Plus, the fragmentation issue has also been both improved. Today's (2018 onward) steel plates are lighter and safer than they were in the past. Do your own research!
If you place para-aramid fibers in front of a immoveable hard steel plate, the fibers are pinched between plate and bullet, and a lot of cutting and compression of the fibers is happening, compared to their normal dispersion of energy though its weave and elongation to break. The fibers are there against spalling from rounds, and you should test with a rifle threat first to validate if the spall liners are any good before degrading them with handgun rounds that are curtain to be arrested. I find steel plates great to a degree, level 3+ will stop most common steel cored rounds except the m80a1 and 762x54r steel cored..and no AP rounds, but that does not matter as much as they are more rare. They protect very well on the edges, and a 6mm thickness will get you lvl3+, and they do very well with glancing shots compared to laminate+ceramics. The most common rounds in RU/UA war right now I assume is 5.45 with a steel cylinder, and 6mm of steel will stop it.
