Im still learning but thank God i diagnosed that correctly. Parts otw tomorrow but i basically checked low side pressure with gauge and high side using scanner, same as you. Low pressure would climb to 300+ psi after a good while koeo but when koer it wouldnt go past 83psi. Considering it should be around 600+ psi when engine is running, i figured 2 things hpfp isnt working, and because the low side builds up above spec when engine is off, there may be a problem with the fuel pressure reg as well (built into hpfp. I wasnt thorough, but im more confident in my decision now, nothing worse than wasting a customers money guessing and then you end up being wrong. Fun fact, i also have the same car as the one im working on, which is why i took the job 😂
Good video my friend, that vpecker looks the business and it's also available in the UK for £109! Cheers sandy ps your channel was recommended by 'the Gibby' Ian on YT
wow, awesome test. I'm just learning a lot about diagnosing and love your channel, can let this test be done with a regular test light or do you need an LED one. thanks for the feedback.
Thank you for the compliments😊. Now for this test it is better to use a led only because a incandescent test light will actually pull the circuit straight to ground, while a led test light will only put a partial load on the control circuit. Hope that answers your question. have a great night
@@JLsAutoSolution Working on a 2013 ford focus 2.0 i full fielded the injector pump and it did not stall i tried to look up service info on it and it did not say. But with the injector pump unplugged doing this test the desired pressure on the rail was only 53 so maybe it the injectors will not open up enough to allow it to stall maybe. Just wondering your thoughts
@@sherwinb5085 so with the HP pump unplugged the only pressure the rail will be seeing is from the low pressure pump. 53psi seems about right. You need to erase the DTC and recheck the high pressure circuit. Make sure you have 12v and control from the pcm. Then check the fuel rail pressure sensors again. There might me 2 sensors on the focus One for low side and one for the high side. On ford I belive it will be call low pressure and high pressure fuel rail sensors. 400- 700 psi is what you are looking for the high side at idle.. Hope that helps.
What would be the approach to diagnose this if the car cranks but won’t start? Having this problem right now with a 2013 Rio. Any way to do some sort of diagnosis if it doesn’t start? Thanks
I got code p0087 on my hyundai veloster. Car runs fine but after maybe around 50miles it stop it wont start, but after 30mins or engine gets cold it will start again and runs perfect then again same issue it will stop.. but some times it takes about 1 week before i experience again that issue. Any ideas what should i change or do. Thnks in advance
Great video, I am having the same problem on my 2013 Ford Focus. I cant insert the wire into the connector to check with the light as its a sealed unit. So I did it directly into the connector removed from the high pressure pump but it didnt light up. I checked the solenoid in the pump with my power probe and it clicked so I assume its ok. Does this mean there is likely a problem with the harness or will this method not work if the connector isnt plugged in?
Hi thanks for the video. I have questions that cable the is going to the fuel pump should always have electricity going through . It's the solenoid cause my Don't have any electricity going through thanks
if its the low pressure side you only need an adaptor(part number--09353-02100, lang also has a kit that fits. the high pressure side is harder.. you need specialized hoses and equipment(guages ect) typically the high pressure side is read through a scan tool. but if the fuel pressure sensor is suspect to be faulty, then test that first. thanks for watching
Hi upkar.. so the reason that the vehicle stalls out is due to high pressure.. when adding a standard ground and power to the GDI pump, you are allowing full fuel Flow to enter the pump. this increased flow means higher fuel pressure. On the optima the pcms strategy is to stall out the vehicle, in order to prevent damage. If I would take a 2014 rondo the pump supplies fuel pressure around 2700 psi with a power and ground added but the vehicle does not stall.. the pump makes a whining sound. I hope this answers your question. The results of the test are completely dependent on the vehicles make/model and programming.

the low pressure pump is T'd into the pressure gauge, thanks for watching

Where can I get aT adapter for fuel pressure check from? as shown at minute 5:22 Thanks!
lang sells a very good kit. not to expensive either.
Very good video very informative

Very good informational video. How would you test the high pressure fuel pump if the car cranks but does not start?
there is a special adapter and pressure gauge that is needed in order to measure the high pressure side.
Can you post a link to the gauge and adapter, that is used for the high pressure testing?

Fuel air compression timing spark, also check for restricted cat, they like to fail and block.
@@JLsAutoSolution thanks for the pointers! Crossing my fingers it’s not the cat
good diag as always do you do much Hyundai they are kind of based off the same platform ?
not overly on the Hyundai side.. but they are identical to Kia..

200$ delivered... It's great for the price
Does it do bi directional tests vin writing keys? I got an old school snap on verus looking to upgrade has the personality keys and an autel ds708

I put 12v to the solenoid and it stutters but doesn’t stall. I’m having misfire code and lots of unburnt fuel/smoke coming thru the exhaust.
