I remember getting that xbox and booting up GTA San Andreas when I was young. My heart still lies with my PS2 more though. I'm not a fanboy towards any console though, I just remember playing spider-man and Crash Bandicoot on the PS2 and have more fond memories of it.

I can still remember exactly when I started the OG xbox for the first time - what a moment... My grandma bought me the Xbox at Easter 2002 (a few days after the official release in Europe). She was not a rich woman, but had saved away a part of her pension to fulfill this wish for me. Last year she passed away & I had to think of that moment again - thank you grandma, for everything ♥

I got my original XBOX in June of 2002 and I'm proud to say that after 21 years, 8 months, It still runs great and it still brings me joy to this day.
That was 3 months before I was born woah 🥺. Glad I was able to play it growing up with my older cousins 😊
I remember the days, going to a video game store, getting a game, sitting in the car on the way back home, reading the manual cover to cover, pure anticipation. Reading the back thinking of all the cool things that this new game can do. Getting back, popping the disc in. Then playing for hours on end.
Awesome memories. I remember that I could never wait to get back to the car so as we were eating before leaving the mall I would open the box and take the game's manual with me.
Yes this was it you knew that one game was everything unlike today where you can just refund or dl another. I also had this feeling with WoW on PC and buying the guidebooks and just reading them nonstop.

So many hours sunk into playing Halo 1 with my friends growing up. Literally playing until the sun came up. Then for my 13th bday in 2004 I got an Xbox with Xbox live and Halo 2. Changed my life. Experiencing Halo 2 multiplayer with Xbox live was such an amazing experience because it was all so new for everyone. I remember full lobby’s of everyone using the mic and trash talking. So much fun. Would give anything to go back to those days.
Were you ever any good at the fancy stuff like double-shotting, BXR, and doing the super bounces? Some of my friends were really really good at that stuff and I sucked so hard, I moved on to Halo 3 as fast as possible because it didn't have all that stuff.
@@djjazzyjeff1232 Yeah all that stuff definitely added to the game, for better or worse. BXR and BXB was a must if you wanted to play mlg style. And we would spend so much time superbouncing out of the maps and just messing around out there lol so much fun i remember superbouncing out of the boundary of the map Turf, then playing hide and seek bc you could walk through some of the parts of the map and hide

Being a adult and buying anything you want is awesome, but nothing beats opening up a console on your b day or Xmas that your parents bought. Tearing that gift wrap and seeing the corner logo of ps or Xbox, or whatever you prefer was the best feeling ever and I hope my kids who are toddlers at the moment get to experience in the future what I did.

I'd have said PC like a decade ago, but now?? You can get a kid a console and a few games for less than you'll shell out for a GPU (sad but true), and it won't be outdated and incapable of playing modern games in 3 years, that's a guarantee.

I was a PS2 guy but my friend at school had the OG Xbox. I remember going over to his house one day and the graphics of Halo: CE and Forza Motorsport just blew me away.
I instantly fell in love with the controller (not the duke), it was so much more comfortable than the Dualshock 2 and the triggers felt amazing to press.

Xbox controllers have always sucked imo. PS controllers feel way better.
I liked the original controller a bit more than DualShocks but felt like the S was a huge improvement. I don’t understand how anybody with normal sized hands deals with dualshocks

@@realmasterkush Weird, it's not for me. I have big hands and when I grip a controller, my thumbs naturally hover over where the ps thumb sticks are. I have to awkwardly move my thumb up and to the side to use the dogshit xbox left thumbstick.

Yeah i played Rally Sport Challenge , V8 Super cars which i think elsewhere was called Toca and then Halo. I don't think i slept until 5am once i started with Halo :)

84 to 2000 was the golden era. 2000 to 2013 was it's tail end, and the end of old school gaming. Gaming now is just a racket to sell cosmetics or loot.

You have to understand going from a ps1, n64 or dreamcast to this console was a MONSTER jump in graphics for people who didn't own a high spec pc at the time. I remember getting my original xbox with Halo, Sega GT, Jet Set Radio Future and Onimusha and I was completely blown away.
Then the xbox 360 came out and I spent literally 100s of hours playing Perfect Dark Zero not because I enjoyed the game, but because the reflection quality of the character models clothing made me feel like I was in the year 3000 😂

A lot of old games still have a unique art-style that just isn’t quite replicated in modern PS4-Xbox zone games… they’re more grittier which makes them realistic compared to saturated colors used in modern games…
I had the same disc with jet set and Sega gt on the same disc. Also when I first played Halo there was absolutely no other game at that time that was even remotely close.
PDZ was my first game on the 360 and it was mind blowing back then. Now when you look at it, it looks like a hot pile of garbage.
First time i ever saw 60fps gameplay was on og xbox. It ran the original red dead redemption at twice the fps the ps2 did. Same with most other games too. Look at the xbox version of gta 3 vs the ps2 version

Same here. Got my PS1 as a christmas present in 98 with F1 98, The Lost World Jurassic Park and Toca 2 Touring Cars. Demo disc included Gran Turismo, MediEvil, Tekken 3 and Kula World. Those were the times..

Dude, mine's still under the TV in the living room. Still works like new (imagine a PC still working like new, #PCMasterRace) - only the disc drawer is a bit sticky sometimes and needs a little help opening. The #DukeController works great still too, no drifting. The #HyperkinDuke (official remake from the original creator #SeamusBlackley) is available for the #XboxOne and a newer version for the #XSX/S.
Good old mechassault brings back memories of me and my brother admiring the new graphics and fighting over dumb small things ever since my brother moved away I actually miss the dude hope he’s okay
This Gen was a great step into the future of gaming, but literally nothing will compare to opening an N64 on Christmas morning. I asked my mom for an SNES because I knew we didn't have lots of money and what I thought I was opening was just that. Peeling back the corner and seeing Mario on the box my heart stopped. Always will remember that moment.

@@instantparty8493 yeah it all depends if you were there gaming on a NES and then seeing the 3D graphics and open worlds of 64 bit gaming, it changed your entire view of what video games could be. Next generation systems are amazing but I would argue the differences are far less drastic than what the N64 and PS1 brought to the table.
Duuuuude. N64 w/ Super Mario on Christmas morning was the second greatest day of my childhood. Game Boy Pocket & Pokemon Red still wins, but it's close.

No, I spent $70 on an original XBOX GTA SA game disc, it did not have the original start up, it required an update and made it the newer version of GTA SA with different menu and all. Im pissed.

As a matter of fact they were the only guys i knew who had like every video game system available in that era. Gamecube and PS2 in two other rooms, just in case they wanted to play on that too. It was crazy

You know the nostalgia is real when the sound of the fans kicking on, gives you flashbacks. Some of my best gaming memories were spent on this machine.
particularly the 1.0 version with the little fan on the GPU. That's the fan you hear spin up before it starts booting. Newer versions don't quite hit the nostalgia for me

Dreamcast was such a great console. It was a sad day when Sega quit the console market and discontinued the Dreamcast to focus on games instead

I remember receiving this from my Grandparents 20 years ago on Christmas. I couldn't comprehend the advancements that came along with this console after coming from an N64 (after 5 years). The games I got with it were Project Gothem, Airforce Delta Storm, NFL Fever '02, Much's Odyssey & Amped -- I didn't know where to start!! That bootup and Disc-read sound... NOSTALGIA!!
Little did we know, we were making memories and living through the golden era of gaming. So happy I grew up in that era.

@@Ciauskhaleesi maybe a better way to phrase it, back then devs really cared and understood the games they were making, and you could feel that when playing the games. Now videogames are controlled by corporate suits that are all about how can we exploit as much as we can and increase profits even if the gaming experience gets hurted. A simple example is BF2042 going COD skins style at the expense of the much loved class structure. It ruins the experience when I'm shooting at someone that looks just like me. But hey, BUY SKINS! Battlefield Bad Company 2 therefore gave more fun and joyful experiences to players than BF2042 will give. Even if it has better graphics and performance. See? Now go be a degenerate somewhere else kid.

I remember how much we played sega gt, rallisport challenge, jet set radio ... and of course halo, one of the greatest games ever. Nice times.

I remember having a ps2 and going to a friend's house where his dad just bought an xbox and when he booted it up I was so amazed it reminded me of the matrix. Not only that but gta looked so different and clear and it had the custom radio station feature where you could use your own music. But what really blew my mind was dead or alive the graphics were absolutely insane and looked so realistic at the time. I wanted one so bad after that day.

I remember when my brother came home with a 360 back in 2005 right before Christmas. It was INSANE to see and watch him play in HD. Obsessed watching him play “Unreal Championship” online. Good times.

Reminiscing about old school gaming consoles and reading a comment by the screen name "Shawn Michaels Lazy Eye". What a time to be alive.
I remember my buddy and I playing Splinter Cell - Stealth Action Redefined and him, I, his 2 brothers, his sister, his dad, AND mom were completely BLOWN AWAY by this game. It affected people from every generation. The Xbox was a masterpiece console. Hats off to Microsoft, and Ubisoft!

That feeling the Xbox had over PS2 and Gamecube was phenomenal; custom soundtracks, Xbox Live, superior loading and graphics. You really can't understate how amazing this console generation was. Truly the golden age of gaming.
Even tho I was never a fan of the Xbox and PS, I have to say it was 1 if not the best generation of gaming of all time. PS2 the best selling console ever, a brand new console and competitor with the Xbox, a Nintendo (GC) console with great graphics and CDs for the first time, small CDs, a very fun console all around, and also the Sega Dreamcast was still around, even tho it was dying. The first and last time we had all the big 4 together (Nintendo, PS, Sega, Xbox).
@@halionextra If good graphics qualified for classic gameplay, every AAA studio would be dropping timeless titles but they don't and constantly fail to reach that because no matter how much emphasis you put on aesthetic and visual quality, if the core gameplay lacks the dimensions that validate replay value usually created from hardwork and creativity by developers, you just get soulless products that lack what made games with less superior graphics so good. There's a reason the nintendo 64 has so many classics and its not just nostalgia for the polygons.

I was born in 90. Got one the Christmas that they released. I was blessed to get it. I begged my ass off for months. Best friend a few doors down got one too. The crazy part I remember is not seeing it really at all on tv and because we barely had the internet and there was no social media, I didn't ever really see it in action until the day I got it. Went from PS1 to xbox and was blown away. These days we find out about stuff the second people even think the idea they've got a hype video for it.

Seeing that Dreamcast just chilling there puts a smile on my face
That first day with a new console is so ridiculously exciting, you even looking at all the boring menu settings because even the menus were fun to mess around in. My most memorable moment for the wrong reasons was Sega Saturn, put disk in tray and closed it but it didn't play, was devastated and thought it was broken until I worked out I needed to push the disk into the spindle. Such a relief and felt like an idiot when I worked it out. Then I played that demo disk that came with it for days haha.
I felt that a few times in my life. Back in the 80s', when my parents got me an 8-bit Atari. We hooked it up to a black&white TV, the sound came through a radio and the games were on tapes :) But I was in heaven. Then when I got my first PC and a box of floppy discs with Sierra On-Line games :) And most recently, when I was 41 and bought myself a PS4 (my first console ever), so I could finally play Red Dead Redemption 2 and Spider-Man. On that day I was that kid again :)

@@joecool9739 Yep, on a normal casette tape. You loaded them using a special cassette deck connected to the computer. It could last up to 30 minutes (for Atari at least) and if you stomped too hard in the room, you got an error message and had to start again :)

As a lifetime PlayStation owner who now owns a xbox as well. I can say I appreciate xbox studio, it’s bringing gaming back to life for me. Party chat brings friends together something that doesn’t seem to work as well on PlayStation! Absolutely love gaming on the xbox and throwing in 360 or original generation games is the best feature!!

I didn't get to start mine on launch day but my sister and I went to visit my dad in FL for Christmas that year. He had gotten us the Xbox and Halo, we were NOT expecting it at ALL and I remember my mind just being blown by everything I was seeing on the screen. Good times, great memories!

I am 100% with you. When my brother and I got our first Xbox and Halo, we set up a private match with just us two and we started looking at each other with such mindless excitement and kept talking about how unbelievable this is. I then realised that nearly 5mins passed and we didnt even start the match.
I never had that feeling before or since, until the PS5.
Starting up a new system in the old days was a magical experience.
I wasn’t even born when this came out, (missed it by a few months) but I will never forget when I turned on my 360 for the first time with reach and playing the campaign. Still one of the most emotional and just fun to play campaigns ever. When George died I straight up cried as a kid.
I remember when halo 2 was supposed to be the last game in the series.
360 and Reach was also my first console and game. So many memories meeting people online and "game night " custom games on Fridays and Saturdays. I don't have as much time to play now but Halo Infinite finally brought Halo back.
I remember being surprised with this Xbox almost two weeks later for my birthday. My sisters boyfriend at the time worked at Kmart and my mom asked him to buy her one. Talk about being absolutely surprised. My cousins, my sister and I all went to a rental store called Major Players, which doesnt exist anymore, and rented a few games. Man that night was memorable, as was this consoles era.

Cant believe all this changes ive experienced on gaming, moving from NES to SNES to N64, so on... and now to PS5, have so many great memories.
