whoever got the idea about bringing Rock for this presentation was a genius. obviously Rock was the best guy for this job from get go, he was known for being super charismatic and hyping up the crowd
I remember waiting in line at Best Buy when this came out. There were only 2 other people in line and they had plenty of consoles and accessories. Those were the good old days. I've had every iteration of Xbox since, including the Series X. I'm glad I took the chance on the original Xbox!

After Sega discontinued the Dreamcast, I started saving up for an Xbox. I knew it would be a console for hardcore gamers, and it was. I like to call the Xbox the last console for hardcore gamers. Starting with the 360, it became all about finding more and more ways to siphon money from gamers' wallets. Plus, that generation began the sad affair of games shipping with bugs or in an unfinished state, to be patched later. I remember one of the Xbox guys, I think it was Seamus Blackley, who said a goal of the Xbox was, "no patches, no ports, no shit." Those were the last greatest days of console gaming, to me anyway. The original Ninja Gaiden (not Ninja Gaiden Black, but the original release) is still the best action game of all time.
Truer words have never been spoken. The original Xbox has the coolest design out of all of them. Every single Xbox since the original has looked kind of shitty, this new series X looks so stupid in my opinion, just a generic box with virtually no aesthetic features.

sure they were comparing to ps1, not to n64 nor ps2. because the 128-bit gen took those ugly polygons from paradigm-shifted-32-bit gen and turned into state of the art, and right with Metal Gear Solid 2, released at the same year as the original xbox, but exclusively to ps2, it was a blast and showed a true maturity of video games as a form of art.
I worked hard for my XBOX 6 months before it came out I saved a lot of money not knowing The Xbox would come out and suddenly The XBox was there I will never forget the moment I bought The Xbox with my hard earned money as a 17 year old woke up every morning running to work and ran back home mennn yeahh that was the early 2000's
I was 17 when the OG Xbox came out in 2001... Man, those were some better, simpler times, I'll tell you what. There was none of this pay-to-win bs, no overly long download wait times, and sure as hell no loot box nonsense. It was just me and the boys, a pizza from Domino's and games like Halo 1 and the OG Star Wars Battlefront after a crappy movie from Blockbuster. Damn, those were the days and I miss the fug outta them.
