Almost 15 years ago. It’s pretty amazing that 15 years before this, the Super Nintendo was released! The advancement in Video Game graphics from 1991-2006 was quite remarkable.
1991-2005. 2000-2005 was the ps2 era and probably the best PlayStation era in my opinion. 2006-2009 ps3 era which wasn’t a bad era ether don’t get me wrong
Now we've hit the point where it's very hard to even differentiate real life from video games. THAT'S how crazy graphics are now. (Even though I think gameplay is more important)

@@beachlife2968 what a load of bullcrap. I think it varied greatly on where you were, I think some places all the kids had an xbox and others you'd see more with playstations. I know the area/school I went to was more of an xbox dominated one, but I still had friends to play with. At least you only needed one disk for a ps3 game, and playing online didn't cost a penny, getting xbox live was a big deal to some people, not everyone was even allowed to, lol. Plus the standard controllers didn't need special modules to make them rechargeable, they just were. I also remember at least two of my mates getting the "red ring of death" on their xboxes a few years on. But maybe it wasn't just my area, I guess I definitely saw more xboxes than ps3s.
@@andreivaughn1468 Out of the first 4 playstations it was the lowest selling one. They brought it to market at least a year too late probably because of the huge success of the ps2 which gave the 360 a march on it. If it had been released at the same time as the 360 then it would have done much better numbers. That is Sony's failing on that console and the price was much higher than the 360. It did overtake the 360 in the end though.

The 2000s was just the 90s but with newer gadgets. I'd argue that we saw a true change in culture when the internet started to become a staple of every household and developed into what it is today.
First console I was actually able to buy myself once I was able to work at 15, had some of the best memories online with my ps3!! Time does fly!

I remember the day GTA IV got released. My dad had bought the game for me as well as the PS3 when I was 10-11 years old. I was so eager to play the new GTA as I had already played all other GTAs for years already. I was forced to do my homework before I was allowed to play the game, which felt like torture at the time especially as a young kid having a brand new un-opened playstation and a new GTA sitting next to you while you did your homework.
I swear that the early 2000s feels like such a different era even though I lived through it

Was a REAL machine right here...solid exclusives and a ginormously noticeable leap in graphics...with a ginormous price tag...worth it though..
I was in 7th grade. Didnt grow up w my pops, I would probably see him once or twice a year. I remember my mom and I picking him up from the airport and he was walking up to the car with a brand new ps3 in his hand a day after it launched. He had payed a guy $1,000 in philly to stand in line for him an get it on launch day for me. I’m 27 now and I lost my father a little less than a year ago. PS3 will always remind me of him, crazy that this was so long ago it feels like yesterday.

1) Companies will always create "shortages" to increase the hype
2) The graphics will always be considered "THE BEST" at the time of release
3) There is always someone willing to pay the price no matter what the cost

The shortages are not created, they just don't have the capacity to manufacture millions of consoles in a week. They'd be more than happy to sell them all on day one if they could so people don't buy the competing console.

I had my first ps3 in 2009... 3 years after its launch and I still have it, it was the 80 gb fat one, beautiful but huge and heavy haha, I remember seeing a documentary once in those days where it said that the chip of ps3 was the most powerful in the world at that time, that's how impressive that console was

The reason why it doesn't feel like that is because our technology has expanded so far that it really feels like we're in 2030 now.

It was a time before the release of smart phones....and the internet was in the days of development....youtube didnt have the vast amount of library it has today....this was when you went to your friends house after school to kick back...eat lunch and just have fun...wow man i miss those times!!!! I waited in line for the Wii in front of target all night, got home around 10am with my Wii, extra controllers, and twilight princess. Man that was a magical experience! Too bad Nintendo doesn’t have that effect on me anymore, their games just don’t bubble me up like they used to, Im a grown man.
I bet those guys on the line have lots of good memories from that day.

Yup, woke up early headed out to gamestop to reserve the Wii and PS3 on 2 different days. Picking them up was easy but also dangerous since there was a lot of people getting robbed for the PS3 I had to bring a long someone just to be on the safe sound. Yes I still got both launch consoles CIB

17 years ago 😂 damn… time flies. I remember still playing my PS2, GameCube, 360, dreamcast, N64 still religiously during that time in 9th grade
looking back after all these years, it’s actually a pretty nice looking console. I love the sleek black. Also that violin that plays when you start it up, magical. I miss the old days :(
This almost brought a tear to my eye. I remember my brother and I went to circuit city with my dad looking for a Wii because they were sold out everywhere. We saw 1 of 5 behind customer service and instantly got it. My dad is no longer here, and my brother has grown apart into his new life. We grow old, but I will always be grateful for my joy gaming has brought me through my years.

same, I remember my brother getting a ps1 for Christmas but we had to share it, we used to fight over who got to play and it got so bad that my mother had to set a schedule for us and if we fought again or played during our bedtime she would take the power cord and hide it. My father is also no longer with me and my brother has his own life to live as well however we do keep in touch from time to time. I sometimes miss the old days but we were a poor struggling family in those days and sometimes we would barely have anything to eat except rice and only rice, i dont miss those moments lol.
Same fam, I'am watching these video teary eyed my sisters and I grew up on Ps1 playing ridge racer type 4. Then by 2006 we got the Xbox 360 and Wii. Reason why nostalgia hits me too, it's looking back on days with the family all under 1 roof that I will never get back.

Just imagine that in the past we had to wait 4-5 years for a new next gen console release. Nowadays, it's expected that both Sony and Microsoft will release a Slim or "Pro" version of a console that barely enhance the visuals, not that you'll notice a big difference anyways.
