As mentioned in the previous video, I'm currently in a rental situation until my house can be repaired from the hurricane. Could be 6-12 months. But LGR things continue in the meantime, as normally as I possibly can! For a bit of behind-the-scenes here, this episode was _very_ close to not happening at all. This boxed console and my entire PS2 collection was _right below_ where the trees crashed through my home during the hurricane, in the room that became a wet moldy mess. By pure chance I had moved all this PS2 stuff closer to the door for easy access since I was planning on making this video soon... and if I hadn't, then all this stuff would've been where a ton of nasty storm water leaked in through the busted ceiling. It would've been ruined. Crazy how things randomly work out sometimes.
Things like this create stories to tell, we grow and we change. I pretty much jumped for that play button when I saw you upload dude, was missing me some wood grainy heaven! All things a side though, props for making it through what can only be an unimaginable/uncontrollable experience in which you survived. As you've said many times, things are just things but, they hold a story.
Also, Katamari Damacy's creator had an exhibit at the Jepson Art Museum in Savannah, GA a few years ago. It was interactive and you could view his drawings and notes on his games. It was absolutely beautiful!
My ex-wife and I split up in the summer of 2000. I bought myself my PS2 as a “divorce present”/Christmas present that holiday season. When I started dating the woman who is now my wife, we both had little kids so we would let them play Crash Bandicoot and other kid-friendly games, then watch movies on it when we sent them to bed. I still have that console up in my retro-game room today.
Funny story about when I got my PS2 as a kid, my grandma had me clean the entire house every time I was over to visit. One random week when I got done she said I did a great job and wanted to take me to Kmart and let me get whatever I wanted. I figured I would call her bluff and asked for a PS2, she said that was fine. When we got there, she actually let me get one! The amount of joy that came over me was overwhelming. I spent the better part of the year seeing so many ads and hearing my friends talk about the games, BUT I FINALLY HAD ONE! However..... she didn't let me get any games, only the console, so I was still limited to my PS1 library for the next month or so before I was able to convince my parents to buy me my first PS2 game. Fond memories booting up that PS2 over and over just to see that boot screen.😊😊
@zakiaddow89 If I'm very honest, I can't remember if it was or Twisted Metal Black, or Tekken 4, I got both around the same time just can't remember which came first. I played twisted metal black the most for awhile though. I do remember Christmas 2001 I had 2 games on my list, Silent Hill 2 and Metal Gear Solid 2. I had 2 presents under the tree that year that got them both. Those held me well into 2002 played them a ton.
My parents did the same thing with the PS3. We had a PS1 and PS2 prior, but oh man it took a few months of saving up allowances to finally be able to buy our first games for this console that had been gathering dust in the living room since it was unboxed. We were so accustomed to going to EB Games and nicking stuff out of the used bin for 5-10 bucks a disk. Seeing everything at 50-60 a disk was a rough adjustment.
Laser blows out quickly but I do like modded matrix fat ps2 I got one it’s amazing It can play pal and ntsc dvds and games basically region free laser been replaced got a ypbpr to hdmi adapter from Amazon works great on my 4k tv
At the start of the era when everything started to become 'serious' and 'cinematic' Katamari stood out with a simple premise, fun colourful visuals and and amazing soundtrack. Even though I never played both games that much they made a massive impact on me.
ok so apparently watching a retro-focused channel doing an unboxing of something you remember opening up brand new upon launch is a middle-age rite of passage. ouch, right in the youth.
Especially when somebody opens it up with care, fully intending to put it back in the box with the little baggies, carefully flipping though the manuals. And I remember just ripping all that junk right open, like an animal. And tossing it all in the trash.
@@hypnotised-cloverthe PS2 came out in the early 2000s, that means you have to be at least born in the early 90s, better the mid 80s to being able to fully enjoy the PS2. People in there mid 20s where born when the PS2 came out, they could not experience it new. Writing this hurts me so much, because I still feel like I’m the age I was when those amazing consoles released. But then I remember it’s already a quarter century later and it hits me right in the feels.
21:37 This part just literally makes me cry. I remember the snowy blizzard of christmas 2005 (snow just wants to kill you in Finnish winters), when our dad connected the PS2 for me and my two little sisters. It was almost midnight, we were under blankets and the hearth was hissing in the corner of our living room. Parents went to sleep, we had the whole night. We had tens of games we haven't ever heard about because we we're 7-10 yo (even Silent hill 2-3 and Fatal frame to think about it hah, nightmares). I will never ever forget the moment when i first saw that starting screen, i will forever treasure that memory.
I have a memory similar to that with my Sega Saturn. It was Michigan winter though, not Finnish. And a few years earlier. When it went on clearance after being discontinued, my grandparents got one for me, and one for my cousin for Christmas. And an assortment of games (I think maybe 7 each?). I lived in front of that TV until I had to go back to school. For me, Christmas is now inseparably linked to Croc: Legend of the Gobbos. I feel compelled to play it every year when it starts to snow. It's actually snowing right now.. Croc season is upon us.
With the Silent Hill remake, I feel you so much on this. Fatal frame, Resident Evil, Fatal Frame, I had to ask my family to open a light before talking to me to know they're there (played with headphones).
My favorite memory of PS2: At the beginning of Indigo Prophecy your character gets possessed and kills a guy in a bathroom diner. You regain control of yourself, and a cop starts walking towards the bathroom. My heart pounded in my throat as I desperately tried to clean up the mess and hide my crime. I was genuinely freaking out. I didn't know a game could do that to you. I absolutely loved that.
The one that I got for Christmas 2003 is pristine because my sister put one of those vinyl skins on it. I removed it a few years ago and was blown away at how clean it looked for 20 years of age.
From a guy who started out with a battery operated Pong TV game in black and white, continued on an Atari 2600, then coded games on a Commodore 64, hearing "24 years later" after that modern newfangled thing Playstation 2 - makes me feel SO old.
Glad that you're back (though I would watch hardware restoration forever also) and I hope that you're doing well. I just wanted to say that you're always such an inspiration and a pillar of the retro community.
It definitely felt good playing the Reroll, reminiscing how I played the original when we were visiting relatives. Didn't get very far though as the thumbstick cap snapped from too intensive rolling on my PS3 controller that I used to play PC games with at the time😂
Man, time really does fly doesn't it? 25 years since it's release and still remembered fondly by most people who had it, and one of my favorite consoles to emulate to play the old faves.
I was in high school when this came out. I ordered one online and left school early on the day it was to be delivered, I got pulled over on my way home and told the cop I had a free period and needed to go home to get my homework.
Aww man that takes me back! And running yourself over at the end gave me a much needed laugh this morning. Seeing as that PS2 box was open, I wonder if it was set up, had issues out of the gate, and was just packed back up and forgotten about. And I played mine on that very TV!!!
First of all, welcome back! Those launch PS2 units (The SCPH-30001 models) are honest to god *lemons.* They are notoriously the most prone to the dreaded 'Disc Read Error' issue, and even when you can get a unit that works, often have the worst load times. I remember my local friend had a launch unit and whilst it could still read discs, it could often take up to MINUTES on end for it to read the disc before it became playable. Not surprised at all that your unit you got there already appeared to be on its way out, though it practically corrupting was not what I expected. The SCPH-39001 models that came out afterwards are (in my honest opinion) the *best* of the original 'Fat' models to go for. They certainly must've over engineered it after the whole 'Disc Read Error' stuff, because honest to god out of those particular models I've owned over the years, they are practically *tanks,* I've never come across a unit of those that DIDN'T work. Still my main unit to this day. Though the fans on these units are often just as loud, if not in some particular cases *louder* than the original units, which is the main downside. The SCPH-50001 models are a lottery, honestly. You either get units that work exceptionally well (such as yours), or you get those where the laser has quickly burnt itself out due to a design flaw with the 'Mechacon' chip that could cause it to crash if it attempts to read a badly damaged disc (or games burnt onto a backup disc if the console were modded) on those particular models (the initial PS2 Slim model SCPH-70001 units suffer from this same problem.) Thankfully the retro modding scene has chips that you can solder onto the boards of these units to address this issue to prevent it from burning out your laser. Its a real shame, because they optimized the load times even greater on these particular units and had relatively quiet fans on them. Still an amazing console nonetheless with SO many fantastic games to play on it.
Can definitely vouch for the 39001, those are just tanks and won't die. I only have one 50001 and i've done MechaPWN on it but yeah, its definitely having troubles reading PS1 games or audio CD's, i really need to swap the laser on that one to get it to read CD's again. Just hope it won't be a repeat of my sister's PS3 where i swapped the laser and it wouldn't read Blu-Ray's, DVD's or CD's at all and i had to just swap the entire drive out.
Hey just a PSA on the insanely long load times on 300001 models. Look into PMAP calibration. It's a lot of work but I did it myself and my PS2 reads discs so fast I don't even see the bios menu pop up it jumps straight into the game, it's pretty wonderful
I still have my launch unit from when I was young. Yeah, it doesn't load any DVD discs anymore. But who uses the disc drive these days, anyway? I'd say the bigger problem for me is that the vibration has died in it. I hear there's a fuse somewhere to replace, I imagine a little surface mount one like the DSLite. But I haven't looked in to it.
49:40 thanks for showing your game collection. I've been looking for something new to play and some of your collection pokes my interest (I wish I can read all the game title though, but thats fine)
Clint! I'm so glad to see you back to kind of posting like normal. This is such a great presentation on a great console. I still remember getting mine for Christmas one year bundled with Gran Turismo 3. My mom didn't even realize that it played DVDs. We used it as a DVD player for many years.
I was literally playing Gran Turismo 4 on a wheel setup when I went to watch the video. What a fantastic game, the unlock requirements forcing you to get intimately familiar with an every-day commuter car and gradually work your way up to sport and tuner car legends. The PS2 has a ridiculously stacked game library. Metal Gear Solid 2 still feels relevant with its themes today. San Andreas is filled with details to make it feel like a realized simulation of a fictionalized California. Glad to see you're doing well, and thank you for your videos.
The last console I owned was as a kid when I was gifted a Sega Master System in '91 for Christmas. It wasn't until 2007 I bought a PS2 Slim - and that was just to play GT4. I think I grabbed a few other used games, but GT4 was it - my whole reason for the PS2. Still have the console itself, the game, and the memory card with my cars on it. I'll have to dig it out!
We love you, Clint! Your uploads never fail to make my day, and RUclips has been so sad and not fun since your hiatus. I hope that your situation is improving, and I hope that your life goes back to some semblance of normal in the nearest possible future! Thank you for making time to make this video. Thank you for everything, LGR. Welcome back. ❤
I was working at Software Etc., which got bought out by Gamestop, as a sophomore in high school when the PS2 came out. I was lucky enough to take one home on the first day. I had the Gran Turismo bundle. What a joyous time it was. I still display my PS2 proudly, and considering the amount of hours I've put through the thing, I'm surprised it's still kicking! Good memories.
Just "re"discovered your channel again after some time. Terribly sorry about what happened to your house, can't even imagine! Just got surgery and your videos are so cozy, it almost feels like youre inviting all of us. It helps so much with the pain. Thanks so much for keeping us all entertained, even though your situation must be stressful as hell!
I really dig this format of filming the crt tv. Is better then video capturing. Soul Calibur has charector creation too and in GT 4 you can drive even the first Ford cars.
I have only ever seen one once, on a silver fat PS2 for sale at a CEX for like €200, which I thought was absurd for a PS2. As for blocking the air vents, aren't they at the back? The stand is at the base and doesn't obstruct the front or back.
The HDD + network adapter was a lot of fun. There was a boot CD that turned your PS2 into a FTP server that you can download games to and play off it. When GTA:SA got leaked a month in advance it was a better experience than the retail disc since everything was on the hard drive.
What the hell i never knew HDD loading was possible that early, Neither that San Andreas leaked a month early, i feel like that's not common knowledge at all.
@@HKT-4300 HDDLoader was the original way of loading games from hdd, it was released in 2002. In fact, sony was already bringing lawsuits to the devs as early as 2005, and they also sued shops that used to sell phat ps2s with hdd loader built in around that time as well. Now it has been made obsolete by the current gen stuff, OPL, Neutrino, etc The gta leak is well known to those around back then, but didnt get fame because it was leaked only 2 weeks before the official launch. it was not a beta or anything, it was just a production disc that had been dumped. this used to happen with infamous games. GTA V for the 360 was also leaked early IIRC, but again, very shortly before the official release date
Halo 2 also leaked right around the same time as GTA:SA. I remember playing through Halo 2 in French like 3 weeks before the official release. I went to a LAN party the Friday after launch and definitely had an unfair advantage from the extra practice.
My little sister having a nostalgia mania next to me. this was her console back in the day. but the only thing i'm unboxing here is Clint's voice and the smooth jazz playing on the background. Gosh i missed you dude....good to have you back!
The main thing I miss from this gen, split screen couch co-op. Me and the missus used to buy every game that would have local co-op. You rarely get that experience anymore with new games and consoles. Its all online co-op, which isn't close to being the same when you're not sat together on the same sofa looking at the same screen. Closest thing is co-op on the Switch.
@@davidsentanu7836 Yeah but its understandable why. It was overpriced, underpowered, didn't have enough launch games, didn't get enough 3rd party games and was very poorly marketed. Pretty much every 3rd co-op game available was available on other (better) systems and most of the Nintendo made games have come to the Switch. Which to be fair, as I said, me and the missus do play Switch co-op. And the Switch likely owes its creation to the Wii U's failure.
It was the dream back in the day. I ended up swapping mine after 10 years for an xbox 1 because the modding community was way more active since it was basically a direct x machine. Love the content you make. Good luck!
Reminds me of Christmas Day at 10 years old. Parents wanted to hide that they got me a PS2, but I accidentally unwrapped Dead or Alive 2. I've always been thankful to my parents.
My parents really got me good one Christmas. I was obsessed with Jak 2 and 3, literally went to other people's places just to play it as much as I could. I BEGGED for them. My parents got me the games, but kept it a surprise by nesting them in several boxes, the last one being an empty diaper cardboard box. On Christmas day I unwrapped the box wondering what the hell it could have been, I saw the logo and immediately shouted "YOU GOT ME DIAPERS?", my parents immediately broke down laughing, told me to keep going. Finally got to two DVD sized presents, and lowe and behold! Long ass story but figured you'd get a kick out of it. I still have them to this day!
Glad to see you doing well! Back in May I got a Ps2 silver slim like my childhood one - but refurbished and a fixed laser... Would love to get my hands on an original Ps2 though for the pure nostalgia since my brothers had the original. Love these unboxing videos, I rewatch them all the time! :)
My brothers and I got a Playstation 2 for Christmas 2001, when I was thirteen. It was our first proper game console after years and years of just playing PC games and parents who refused to get us a console until all of a sudden, to everybody's surprise, they did! What an amazing experience. Playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, Final Fantasy X, and Gran Turismo 3 was such a trip, a completely different and cinematic experience compared to our low-budget PC gaming prior to that. I really don't think gaming has hit the heights of the sixth-generation consoles. So many PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox games are still tons of fun today. It'll be fun playing those classics with my kids when they're a little older and ready for games.
Hey man it’s The Mind Of Orin here I just want to thank you for inspiring me to be a tech RUclipsr I’ve been watching your videos since 2020 and I’ve learned a lot about retro tech keep it up it’s good to see someone with similar interests thank you for being a role model 😀
I was one of the lucky ones being able to unbox one of these. I worked all summer as a kid to afford one, and also bought Dead or Alive 2, Midnight Club and Smugglers run ❤
My PS2 is currently the only working DVD-player in my household. Although I must admit it is my second unit. The first one the drive eventually gave up. One thing about the vertical stand - when the drive in those are near the end of their life and start to skip you can get a few extra months or years out of it by putting the console vertical. I do have the remote which still works but you give up one controller port by using it as it needs a IR dongle plugged in to function. Whoever chose to make all print on the remote dark dark dark gray on black needs to step on a lego brick. So many times watching movies have I had to try and hold up the remote to the light of the TV to even see what button I was pressing. But full marks for durability!
Great to see you again, Clint. This was great and really took me back. I remember getting a PS2 on UK launch, I did get the DVD remote. I never got the stand either, sadly. I did get the PS2 modded to play MGS 2 early (NTSC), that was quite a task. The PS2 had a great game library, but, for me, the Gran Turismo series peaked at GT4 and I moved to Xbox and Forza. But I'd love a new Ridge Racer game or HD collection of the older titles. Good times. And it's still a lovely looking console. Hearing and seeing the startup always takes me back, same with the PS1. For some reason, it makes me think of Ridge Racer V which was one of the games I got with my PS2 back in the day. Hope you are doing well, stay safe. Keep up the great work.
An LGR video lowers my blood pressure, my heart rate and relaxes tension of my neck muscles significantly. This one has been no exception. Thank you for soldiering on, given your circumstances. Your production quality has not suffery at all. Time to dig out that PS2 I still have somewhere too.
The 64 got me into gaming but the PS2 was when I really became a 'gamer'. I remember saving every penny I made for 6 months and I had a calendar leading up to the release date where I marked off each day as they went by. I pre-ordered the PS2 and 5 games and I had to wait until after school that day to pick it up. It was brutal but I loved it so much, it really felt like a next gen console.
I was one of those people who bought the DVD controller. I also bougjt the travel bag and a bunch of other stupid stuff that was upsold to my dumb, 15 year old self. I couldn't find anyone who would pay money for it, even up to 10 yeara ago. Ended up leaving it in a grab bin at an old MMX, along with the bag, third party peripherals and my Game Gear stuff that no one would take.
I remember using books so I could stand it vertically because I couldn't afford the stand and then happily rotating my emblem, a small fact that blew my friends mind at the time. Such simple times.
Glad to see you back to making content again Clint! And with an epic PS2 unboxing, nice one! This brought back so many memories. I had the Gran Turismo 3 edition, but was the same basic thing with a game included.
Omg, lgr is back. Hope all is good considering what happened 🥰 This brings back alot of memories. My parrents thought the first playstation was to expensive. So i saved up money to buy one myself, then when the ps2 was announced i skipped it and saved up for the ps2. So it was my first playstation and that felt amazing to own such a powerful gaming console at home. But then it was also my first dvd player, so even later consoles were much more powerful. This is still one i remember as a huge step forward, since i was going from a commondore 64 and a VHS machine. Still remember when i put on gran Turismo and just sad there almost in shock over the graphics.
When you passed over a few understandably iconic shooters and pulled out a Timesplitters game I actually shouted "HELL yeah." You, Sir, are a man of culture.
Wow, I did not expect to see a normal LGR video so soon! So glad you're able to get back to making some content, and it seems like you're genuinely enjoying revisiting this classic system. I really hope the videos give you a nice reason/excuse to get a reprieve from the difficult circumstances you've had to face recently. All the best, man.
As always, a fun, interesting, witty and informative video of the master in the genre. Just the right amount of info, just the right amount of variety (in shots as well as sections), just the right amount of ideal music (cf. also 'Thrifts'!), just the right amount of Clint and just the right amount! Greetings from Belgium! (any new Thrifts in the works, perhaps?)
the ps2 is pinnacle for me. i switched to pc at the end of that era, and even though i've retroactively purchased a wii and ps3... they just never reached the heights of the ps2/ps1 era. for me. i remember those 2010 thrifts with stacks of ps1 and ps2 for dirt cheap. accessories too. i picked up a sealed remote (with dongle) for probably 1.99. even a sealed vertical stand, and _even_ a sealed and useless horizontal stand. it was like a dream back then, the thrifts. like a dream.
This takes me back. I ordered my PS2 from Sony's website and had it shipped direct to my apartment. I didn't have any PS2 games for it when it arrived so all I could do was unbox it, hook it up, and listen to the launch screen and stare at it in awe. Of course it didn't take me long to figure out I could play PS1 games and DVD movies in it too, but I still went out and bought Madden that night so I had ONE single PS2 game to play!
The PS2 is still my all time favorite console launch, because not only I was excited about the PS2 console itself, but I remember my shopping mall hosted an event by Sony of America with dozen PS2 demo kiosks outside of a Target anchor store inside the mall! I got Timesplitters because of its multiplayer mode, then I bought DVDs from FYE in the mall because it was also our bedroom DVD player! It’s no wonder Sony PS2 won that generation, because of DVD playback and its exclusive games like Gran Turismo 3, Final Fantasy X, Jax and Daxter, Kingdom Hearts I & II, God of War!
Good to have you back! And man, I was just thinking about recommending Vampire Robot's PS2 Launch Day footage when you played some actual Vampire Robot clips.
11:00 I'm sitting here watching this and I thought "Wait.... I don't think my PS2 has that port?" And I went and looked and lo and behold it doesn't! Mine only has the 2 USB ports in the front there under the memory card and controller ports..... but no firewire! Makes me think this unit is a later model because I got mine for the holidays in 2000, so it was an OG first version. Still works too! Husband currently has it hooked up to the DDR pads he built, but it's still chugging with zero signs of stopping!
firewire port was actually removed in the newer versions (it was used very rarely). if you don't have the firewire, you probably have a quieter fan and a built in receiver for the remote
So happy to see you back, C. I hope things are going in the right direction. Thinking of getting a PS2, SATA-converter, SSD and the ”soft mod” memory card to be able to play games from disk.
I just bought a PS2 and some games and two controllers, the black original OG and the electric blue, this year for my birthday and I'm absolutely in love with it. I remember getting it for my birthday on launch that year and i was so thrilled to play MGS2 and FFX! Love thus console so damn much!
Im not at all old, but even back then I remember this thing feeling brand new. We already have PS3 and a bit later also PS4, but the PS2 is always a special treat. Rental and Cafe, instant noodles and cup coffee and iced tea, everyone just having fun and being kids. To think that it is just as old as myself (released mere days after I was born), its crazy. To me, it was never an old console. The memory will never be corrupted on mine. Also its nice to see new, normal video man. Happy to see you doing well, and hopefully you'll continue to get better. Much love from Indonesia.
i'm really keen on games related content on this channel. i've gotten so used to just putting your ramblings about 80's ram expansions for sleeping aid and then this one just kept me awake whole way through not to discount that stuff either! you should do you
Oh gosh this brings me back to christmas of 2000 opening up the PS2 and being absolutely blown away at 9 years old. Its hard to express just how awesome this thing was when it came out. I still loved playing my dreamcast after we got the PS2 but it holds a definite special place in my heart over the years. Thanks for the trip down memory lane 🥹 glad to see a regular upload after all thats happened goad youre getting into a more comfortable place. Also was cool to see you mention the CD vs DVD for the games. For the longest time couldnt figure out why the back of Ring of Red was blue until one day looking at the case and noticing the cdrom label instead of ghe usual DVD
I'm still watching but just wanted to say that yup, it's one of the best looking consoles ever. It just looks serious, almost like a server rack or something. Totally iconic!
A happy coincidence! Just lately i have been going back through the catalogs of gamecube and ps2. It keeps me busy over my pc or ps4 games. Something magical is put into that era of gaming for real.
Very nice to see you back at it. You are a brickhouse. Love the ps2. What a coverage! There is no storm or tree fall that can stop your talent. Claping and standing for you.
What was your first PS2 game?
@zakiaddow89 If I'm very honest, I can't remember if it was or Twisted Metal Black, or Tekken 4, I got both around the same time just can't remember which came first. I played twisted metal black the most for awhile though.
I do remember Christmas 2001 I had 2 games on my list, Silent Hill 2 and Metal Gear Solid 2. I had 2 presents under the tree that year that got them both. Those held me well into 2002 played them a ton.
My parents did the same thing with the PS3. Seeing a totally normal non-hurricane video from Clint puts a huge smile on my face!
You and me both!
What hurricane?
@Broken_robot1986 you're kidding right?
@The98deville yeah
Then you come along with a hurricane related comment smh
GT4 is generally agreed (as far as I'm aware) to be the peak of Gran Turismo. Glad to see it here, and glad to see you back up and running!
Agreed. And like Clint, i never really bothered with any releases afterwards. They lacked the 'charm' that this one peaked with.
It was the DVD that blew me away. That was the future. No more rewinding tapes! Special features! Hard to imagine how space age that felt.
Now it's streaming.
"All your movie copies are belong to us. Heh heh heh." - Evil Hollywood Execs.
Those DVD menu's were something else. strangely that is now the "vhs" of their era! haha
@@rommix0 hey its that or cd rott
Most DVD players cost more than a PS2, it's the reason DVD took off in Japan.
Laser blows out quickly but I do like modded matrix fat ps2 I got one it’s amazing It can play pal and ntsc dvds and games basically region free laser been replaced got a ypbpr to hdmi adapter from Amazon works great on my 4k tv
Clint seems embarrassed to admit having loved Katamari Damacy when he doesn’t need to! That game was, and remains, a jewel! 🥰📌
I want to know his secret, he looks younger in this video than his previous ones over the last few years years 😮
At the start of the era when everything started to become 'serious' and 'cinematic' Katamari stood out with a simple premise, fun colourful visuals and and amazing soundtrack. Even though I never played both games that much they made a massive impact on me.
Maybe Clint is hoarder and that’s why he likes that game? 😂
Yep, so good.
absolutely love katamari 😄
ok so apparently watching a retro-focused channel doing an unboxing of something you remember opening up brand new upon launch is a middle-age rite of passage.
ouch, right in the youth.
Oh, so *that's* what I was feeling when watching Clint's 10th anniversary retrospective on Skyrim...
Especially when somebody opens it up with care, fully intending to put it back in the box with the little baggies, carefully flipping though the manuals. And I remember just ripping all that junk right open, like an animal. And tossing it all in the trash.
I'm pretty sure it's mostly people in their 20s, not middle aged.
@rolux4853 I was born in the 2000s and my first console was a ps2, which I still have, with the manual, I find your logic flawed.
So good to see you back. I know quite a few pople who got gateway drugged into gaming becuse of the inckuded DVD player.haha What a time to be alive.

This part just literally makes me cry.
So he got the console for you and 10's of games at the same time 😊
Dad of the year
I have a memory similar to that with my Sega Saturn.
I absolutely loved that.
strange to see a PS2 that isn't scratched and still has the expansion bay cover
Definitely the cleanest one I've seen myself, that outer shell is pristine enough to eat off of
@@LGR We're going to now need a video of you eating off it. Thanks ;)
@@LGR Pristine enough to eat off of... in an LGR Foods video, perhaps? 👀👀👀
The one that I got for Christmas 2003 is pristine because my sister put one of those vinyl skins on it. I removed it a few years ago and was blown away at how clean it looked for 20 years of age.
People have said they put drugs in that bay lol
You're "unboxing consoles" videos are some of my favorites man. PS2 was my world as a kid. This was awesome thank you!
From a guy who started out with a battery operated Pong TV game in black and white, continued on an Atari 2600, then coded games on a Commodore 64, hearing "24 years later" after that modern newfangled thing Playstation 2 - makes me feel SO old.
Wow you've really seen it all.
Honestly the best time to be around. Every now will just be, meh.

Did not expect to see content so soon but grinders gotta grind. Love it. Glad to see you up and running in any form.
Less of an urge to grind, more of an "oh god I have so many contractors to pay now" 😩
Glad that you're back (though I would watch hardware restoration forever also) and I hope that you're doing well. I just wanted to say that you're always such an inspiration and a pillar of the retro community.
"...and it...makes me...feel....good" -the best take on Katamari Damacy I have ever heard
Also that's what she said :)
Well played.
Yea i called off sick that day after standing in line to pick mine up
Haha that’s awesome
Totally! I've had 39001 as my primary forever and a lucky 5x I got for Mechapwn as secondary to spin imports
Hey just a PSA on the insanely long load times on 300001 models. Look into PMAP calibration. It's a lot of work but I did it myself and my PS2 reads discs so fast I don't even see the bios menu pop up it jumps straight into the game, it's pretty wonderful
My 39001 still hates blue discs no matter what you say. Grr.
Also, I love your captions. [chronological laugh] is extremely relatable.
it's awesome seeing another LGR video after everything you've been through!
Happy to hear it, I hope this was an enjoyable one!
49:40 thanks for showing your game collection. I've been looking for something new to play and some of your collection pokes my interest (I wish I can read all the game title though, but thats fine)
this one feels refreshingly old school LGR
Yup.
Gran Turismo 4 was really good.
But Forza Motorsport 4 was even better.
Glad to see you are still motivated to make great retro content! Look forward to more and your home's speedy repair!

We truly have been too spoiled by an abundance of capture card footage these days. Filming a CRT feels nostalgic on RUclips.
Fun Fact: There is a Horizontal Stand. It does almost nothing...And what it does do is partially block the air vents.
Oh no kidding? Ha, that's some delightful silliness
Now you can mod the adapter to SATA and store the entire library on a 2TB HDD. Definitely one of the best consoles
Now it has been made obsolete by the current gen stuff, OPL, Neutrino, etc
The gta leak is well known to those around back then, but didnt get fame because it was leaked only 2 weeks before the official launch. it was not a beta or anything, it was just a production disc that had been dumped. this used to happen with infamous games.
And those Duke Nukem impressions.
The Wii U was the last multiplayer couch co-op console. Too bad nobody bought it.
@@RainMakeR_Workshop I loved the Wii U... and you're totally right
It was the dream back in the day.
"accidentally"
I had the same thing happen to me with the original Game Boy.
God, i love the creative and strange UI/UX of the 2000's.
Welcome back LGR! And here's a hell-yah for the Katamari shout out, it's still one of my all time favorite games of any year or system.
Glad to see you smile post-trauma. Thanks for being so easy to love and extra informative. Love from Alabama
Never been this early! Happy to see you rolling!

This one made me smile. Glad to hear the PS2 collection was saved form the storm! That's a glorious stack of gaming goodness you have there.
But full marks for durability!
good to see you! Thanks for creating/posting new stuff!
56 minutes of LGR, focused on the PS2?! I never clicked so fast before.
My best christmas ever, was the 2000 christmas when I got the PS2.
Magic times. Internet was still internet too.
So good to see you back on track! Enjoying your video with a cup of hot coffee in winter feels great.
Same, 10 years ago I sold off all my old n64 and ps2 stuff. I got $150 for the n64 but I practically had to give the ps2 away.
The idea of nobody wanting game gear stuff makes this hard to believe.
@hypnotised-clover The travel cases, magnifying peripherals, the thing that converted Master System games, etc.
Different times
So good to have you well and productive Clint! BIG fan of yours since 2016. Keep up the great work !

I remember using books so I could stand it vertically because I couldn't afford the stand and then happily rotating my emblem, a small fact that blew my friends mind at the time. Such simple times.
And before anyone chimes in, I know it could stand by itself technically but with cats about I wasn't going to take that chance haha.
Glad to see you back to making content again Clint! And with an epic PS2 unboxing, nice one! This brought back so many memories. I had the Gran Turismo 3 edition, but was the same basic thing with a game included.
Xbox, GameCube, and now the PS2 unboxing. It's so neat to see these unboxings of the consoles from the early 2000s.
Don't forget the Dreamcast!
@elgoog-the-third I keep forgetting about that one as I tend to associate it with the late 90s more than the early 2000s.
Omg, lgr is back. Hope all is good considering what happened 🥰
This brings back alot of memories.
Finally, the boy is back with nerd stuff.
Nice work Clint with this PlayStation 2 unboxing video. Lots of good memories here.
Of all the games you could have bought, you bought the Gayest American game on PS2. 😂😂😂
Glad to see you back on the internet sir
PS2 is my absolute favourite Christmas gift. Such fond memories with it.
I've had my PS2 Slim since I was 7. Best birthday present ever.
Same! Got it in an official PS2 carry bag too
Good to have you back!
Husband currently has it hooked up to the DDR pads he built, but it's still chugging with zero signs of stopping!
firewire port was actually removed in the newer versions (it was used very rarely). if you don't have the firewire, you probably have a quieter fan and a built in receiver for the remote
its the opposite, the more ports and things it got the older it is, yours isnt older than the one in the video
Great to see you back on your feet at least somewhat. Love watching your videos.

Hi Clint, I am glad that you are doing well and still making videos 🎉. I always really enjoy your channel. Greetings from Chris from The Netherlands.
So good to finally see you back, best wishes!

That bluebirb t-shirt is legit awesome 🐦
I'm still watching but just wanted to say that yup, it's one of the best looking consoles ever. It just looks serious, almost like a server rack or something. Totally iconic!
Glad to see you trying to upload after your unfortunate situations, one of the best youtubers!
It brings so much joy to see you having fun on a retro console. Thank you for sharing this in the midst of the disaster.
Welcome back, great video!
