To contrast this, here's a video of a small, modern condo in Central Bangkok for the same price as the whole house in this video: ruclips.net/video/nDex78VZGnk/видео.html
Dana was my college roommate. It's so awesome to see what he's been up to since we first met in English class sophomore year. Really proud of the direction his life has taken.
Hey, Dana! I heard you said your electricity bill goes up to 10,000THB/month because of the A/C. I can see that you have a very old A/C unit in your working area. My reaction was 'Oh, WOW...I'm pretty sure if you get a new A/C installed it would have saved you at least half of the monthly electricity cost and easily paid for itself in less than a year.' You see, I work at home these days and I have my 2017-generation A/C's on 24-7. I never have to pay more than 4,000THB/month for electricity even in the hottest months. That's from a 30,000BTU A/C in 50+ sq.m. living space during the day and an 18,000BTU A/C in 30+ sq.m. bedroom at night. I live in a rather well-insulated home in Bangkok, though. If you plan to rent this house for over a year, I'd highly recommend replacing all your A/C's with wall-type inverter units from leading brands like Mitsubishi Electric or Daikin. A/C's get more and more energy efficient every year as the government's regulations get tighter and tighter. It really makes a big difference to replace your old A/C's. As for what size of A/C you need for your room, just multiply the area of the room (in sq.m.) by a factor of 700. For example, a 30 sq.m. room should be fine with 30 x 700 = 21,000 BTU A/C unit. Inverter type A/C from top brands usually go above their advertised BTU rating for a while when you turn it on to cool the room down faster, so you don't need to worry about paying extra money for a bigger A/C unit (...unless it's for a room full of people getting direct sunlight all day long). I hope this helps and if you end up saving some money from this, it could go toward even more cool content on your channel. Cheers!! Poom
@@611moop Thanks for the info Poom, yes the aircon is very old for the downstairs. though the upstairs ones are new. With your formula, I would need a 105,000 BTS aircon for my 150sq/m downstairs. I think the other issue I have with my AirCon is that the condenser units are located on the front of the house and in direct sunlight all day long. :-)
@@IdeaStudioBKK For large spaces like an entire floor, you don’t really have to match the BTU from the formula because you don’t need every inch of space to be at the same temperature. For example, you’re not spending much time in your bathroom and kitchen and you’d be fine with 1-2c higher, you can just subtract the space from your calculation. Also, in your case it might be better to go with 3 A/C (24,000-30,000BTU each) to cover the whole space. Smaller units come with higher efficiency. And you have the option of turning off the one on the other side of the room where nobody’s working. This would lower your electricity cost by a lot. Your breakeven point might be in 1-2 years. Current generation A/C also work a lot more efficiently when the outdoor unit is exposed to direct sunlight in extreme heat of the summer. But if you can block the sun from your current outdoor unit, you might already see some positive results without much investment.

Chris, you keep coming up with new angles and fresh content. Loved this, bro. Not a party animal anymore and this was inspiring to know there might be a place in Bangkok for me.
Thanks for the great video! The rental is so much more affordable just a few km out of city center. That was a big house which is probably too big for some people, wonder if smaller houses will be even cheaper. The neighbourhood looks really nice and I can relate to what Dana said, while Thai people are generally nice, there is still some difference. Those you meet in the city or tourist areas are there to make money, while those you meet in the suburbs are residents living in that locality, they are your neighbours, they tend to be nicer and honest.
I’m “reTHAIring” to Thailand later this year. Jomtien for at least a year, but may migrate to Phuket eventually because I love to sail. Chris, I’ve been lurking your channel and just subscribed. I know there’s plenty to DO, but my retirement manta is, “in Thailand, who do you want to BE?”. And I want to be, well, like you guys. Free. Happy.

Very cool and interesting video. I also live in the suburbs of Bangkok (Bang Kapi) and rent a house. I've got 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, 2 stories, front, back, and side yards in a very quiet gated community (mu baan) with security. I also pay 16,000 baht/month. No songtows here though, but there are a couple motorcycle taxis just outside the security gate. It costs more than my previous 9000 baht/mo. 1 bedroom condo, but the quality of life is soooooooo much better. As I type this, the only thing I can hear outside are the birds and a squirrel chirping, probably at my cat. Anyways, keep up the great work!

I like variety of your videos. Being in the cooperate world all my life, I can see how one guy does not need to be in the rat race for his living and he seems happy.
Super Happy to not be in the rat race! After a decade as an engineer in the US, it's nice to have control over my time.
I'm in the corporate world in Thailand. Work at a factory with 5000 Thais and no other farangs. And own a house only 4kms from the beach in a town with barely any foreigners. You can have the best of both worlds here. Don't have to give up your career to do it.
this looks like subdivisions in the Philippines, but Bangkok is cleaner in this perspective and more managed, nevertheless thais and filipinos friends 🇵🇭🤝🇹🇭
yep i lived in GenSan 2 years - zero difference
Much safer in bkk. Much higher crime rate in Philippines
Great video....love how this guy cam here and went on and built a life. Obv married a lovely Thai lady and I think they both click with their business aspirations and I'm sure they both love sitting across from each other and working the same space. I wish them both every success.
Top stuff indeed
Thank you Ulbre, I am lucky to have my wife in my life indeed.
He's a super cool guy! Thanks for sharing his story and where's the link to his channel, Chris? :)

I live in On nut with my Thai wife:) After I watched your video, feel like living around Bangjak area isn’t bad or even better! Thank you
Thanks, Onnut is a great hood also, and just one stop away. :-) This is a great part of town.
Great video as always! What is the camera and gear you are using to film? It looks so nice quality. Thank you
Dana such a great guy. He really living thai dream.
Thanks Harry, I keep going after it every day, that is all I can hope for!
Thanks for the tour. Still think I would opt for a condo with a pool in the heart of the action lol.
Housing estates around Bangkok It has been built for less than 10 years, almost all of them have large swimming pools and more facilities than condos. In a private village about 200 house, you will get facilities area about 5 acres or more
My village is at BTS Sai ma station. It about 1,000 house, we have facilities area 40 acres and 10 acres for private lake.
Great video showcasing living in Bangkok.
Hey Chris, thanks for one more amazing video from Bangkok! What camera do you use? The picture quality is really cinematic.
just my iPhone!
