How far with $5 go in Bangkok, Thailand? Well, that's just over 150 Thai Baht and you'll be surprised how far it goes. In this video, I walk around the great city of Bangkok and enjoy nearly a full day out without spending much money at all. It is the $5 Challenge, and I'm curious to know how far $5 would go where you live?? Let me know in the comments below. I've been so fortunate to live in Thailand during the terrible 'situation'. The quiet, the slowing, the visible changes in the Thai populace (good changes in some ways) the cleanliness of the beaches and water in Phuket (a few of us falangs and our Thai friends spent a lot of the quiet time cleaning up our local beach 😊🙏). It was like turning the clock back 30 years, truly beautiful. Tainted of course by the hardship of the Thai people by the 'situation' 😞.Seeing animals emerge far more. The sealife really kick up, turtles on beaches, really clean crystal clear water for early morning swims along the beach without fear of being run over by a speedboat of jetski's lol 😁, many more birds and parrots, beautiful snakes here and there. Certainly a wonderful time to travel in Thailand. Chiang Mai and the Mae Hon Song Loop superb and so quiet.

It is sad that the tourists the locals depend on also mean polluted waters. I live inland, so I haven't seen that transformation, but have heard similar stories from others. I hope you guys are able to maintain some of those pristine conditions once the tourism starts ramping up again :)

😍😍 I recommend opposite Lumpini Park, when we cross the road to the opposite side will be Chulalongkorn Hospital. Inside the hospital there is a very large and modern air-conditioned food court and a number of famous restaurants. Just like in a department store and very cheap. 😁😁
I can't wait to make it back to bkk! Los Angeles is the kind of place you just gotta leave from time to time and the Thai people, food, and culture is the best!! So, glad I just discovered this channel this week (better late than never right haha) Kohb Kuhn kupp Chris! 🙏🏼

Great vlog showing how amazing Thailand is, In the UK you could not buy much for 156 Thai baht which converts to about £3.58, In the North of England where I live you can buy vegan sausage roll from Greggs which is £1 a coffee from local coffee shop £2. then a small bottle of water 50p. In London, you probably could not buy much at all it would be interesting Capital v Capital .. I do miss Thailand

The cost of living in this country is quite low. Five bucks can do many things. This is why many tourists visit this country every year.

I'm Thai live in Orlando One bowl of noodles at the Thai restaurant here Lunch is like $12.99 and Dinner (Noodles) is $19.99 plus 20 percents tips dine in.and the food is not as good as street food in Bangkok..Chris you are make me miss Thailand so much thank you for posting something interesting all the time:)...and Stay Safe.

10$ per day is legit minimum wage in Thailand (labor wage)
You can find 1$ to 7$ coffee in Bangkok. The price range is wide. However, 1.5$ coffee can be found easily.

$5 USD. Last night I got Chinese food in Clarkston Washington. The side of spicy chicken was six dollars. The whole meal was $22. Local coffee hut’s five dollars for a coffee. A leg and a breast of fried chicken. No rice!! Met you on Soi Cowboy Jan 2021!! I’ll be back permanently in August.
I'like to recommended you to go to cafeteria in the university, especially Chulalongkorn University.

Actually a good tips for all the foreigners going to Thailand. If the university's open and you're anywhere near it, you can get cheap foods in every university's cafeteria it's like a big food court for you and you can get anything from drinks, foods, desserts. In some university, you can get a glass of soft drinks for 4-8baht. A few years ago you'd be able to get a whole meal for 18-22 baht in Mahidol University Payathai Campus.
I spent three weeks in Thailand this past year. What a awesome trip but I didn't know if I was going to get out. I left the 16march20. I have never had a vacation that I walked so much. Love your videos

I love your videos - it is so much Fun ! (Been to (Bangkok) Thailand, at least twice; Chiang Mai once.. via the cool but long train (on the Hard seats; not the Soft ones. I sat close to the revered velvet rope Monks section). I remembered the daily 2 Thai beer alcohol ordinance rules: the 2nd time that you could drink beer (or a hard liquor): 5pm to 12am. (I have tried all types of Thai beer (like the Singha tiger/lion and Chang green elephant); hard liquor: Sangsom, Mekhong, Hong Thong or the local Thailand Lao Kao/"Cow" : the Moonshine that tastes like the juice from olives (in a metal can) = the latter could be found (in different flavors) at a 7-11.

When you told us you didn't buy Starbucks coffee, I like you even more. So I would encourage you to buy stuff from other convenient stores other than 7-11 -like Family Mart, even better if you buy them from local pop and mom shops. These shops are struggling just like the two men you gave 20 baht to.
Yes ! I love the Family Mart and Lawson Station (Japan) indy/independent stores; not just 7-11 (which is like, almost everywhere in Bangkok: a global franchise like a Burger King or McDonald's). The Thailand Ronald McDonald's statue by Khao San Road (close to a Brick Bar and Mulligan's Irish outdoors pub/bar) has Ronald going the traditional, proper and polite Thai "Wai" greeting - which is great. Thai Street Food vendors (better) vs. Western food (why ?!?) : the latter is too expensive = (Thai) Baht/price wise...

They always tried to charge me 20 baht jst go the length of Suk Soi 24 when I was in town for work. And that was back in the late 90's! lol

One thing me and my wife have done in many cities is that we get on a local bus, random number and just ride it for 20-30 minutes. we get of check our location and start walking back, not following the big roads. found many charming places that way. met many nice local people.
These kinds of videos brings a lot of cheap Charlie foreigners to Thailand. Although things are cheap in Thailand, a lot of foreigners have unrealistic expectations and scream ripoff when something is 5 baht more.
$5 gets you very little in any American city, for sure. Even in rural Washington, it is close to impossible to get much for that little. Anyway, thanks for another fun adventure.

You can get 4 potato tacos and a water cup
Once you are outside of Bangkok and the ''tourist'' areas the prices drop big time. Even just north in Pathum Thani a bowl of the local famous boat noodles can be had for as low as 10 or 15 baht. A Leo quart size in a ''bar'' is 70 to 80 baht.
I've eaten from street food carts, small cafes and a public food inspector would have had a fit at any one of them, maybe I've been lucky so far but I've not once had any tummy trouble. The only time I did was when I grabbed a quick Big Mac before a night out 😜

I do love these videos when you do the challenges.
Bangkok is epic in that you can get a meal for a buck and a bit but you can also go the other way and spend a fortune on a meal.
A 5er here can get you a couple of decent beers in a shop, 2 double cheese burgers from McDonald's or a Starbucks type cofee but it is completely possible to make a full meal for a 5er.
In terms of a taxi we are looking at 3 and a half bucks just to get in and that will get you an eighth of a mile.
Will your favourite shorts make it back out if the bin and to a repair shop in your market. I wonder
