There are also great boat noodles ก๋วยเตี๋ยวเรือ (kuay teeaow reua) shops in the mall right next to the huge roundabout at Victory Monument or right along the narrow waterway there are about four or five shops lined up next to each other, just as inexpensive, very delicious and a lot easier to find since it's along the main road. FYI. And, I love the coconut dessert (jello like) reminds me of haupia (hawaiian coconut dessert just like jello). Generally you can do a small bowl or big bowl and server with different noodles bahmee (egg noodle), sen lek (small rice noodle), sen yai (wider rice noodle), sen mee (thinner than sen lek), I never saw it with woo sen (glass noodle or mung bean noodle). You can get it with different soups like pork, beef, tom yum, and yen ta fo (a pink broth that is sweet, slighly sour and not sure how else to describe it). My 2 cents... BTW, I love noodles, especially bahmee!
Travelling in Europe right now and always find myself saying to my partner that thing's are so much better in Thailand and so much cheaper. From service to transport to food. Thailand is the best country in the world.
I would also recommend you looking around the region. You can find similarly cheap streetfoods and various free things to see and do in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam also. Myanmar is opening soon too. Or the Philippines, but island-hopping there can get expensive. Have fun!

As a Thai. I really appreciate it. He knows a lot of information and it is correct. 80% of Thai people don't know about the background of the Victory Monument but he does. That is why Thailand won and lost in WWII at the same time.
What my Thai friend told me the first time I went to Thailand back in 2003 is that Thailand sided with both Japan (and its allies) and US (and its allies), so they would win if either side won. And Thailand was never a territory of or colonized by any other country.

Chris. The dessert you ate in Thai called “Khao mao” (ข้าวเม่า) It made form stickyrice +coconut. It’s traditional foods of Esan (Northeastern Thailand).
5 years ago, I used to live in Bangkok during my master degree period with only 10,000 THB (less than 300$) per month. It’s providing me an apartment room rental(air conditioner type with a wardrobe, a bed, a TV stand, a dressing table and personal bathroom), gasses for my car and food for 3 meals everyday. I believe it’s still possible these days.

The baht is so weak currently that it's bad for the Thai people, but good for the foreign tourists who are coming here. P.S. At 1:50 She understood your "Waan or Preaw" as "Waan Om Preaw" which means "sweet with a little bit of sourness" and not "sweet or sour". I recommend you say "Rue" instead of "or" next time to avoid confusion. Also 6:25 you use "Chaam" instead of "Jaan" to refer to a bowl (of noodles). Jaan means plate and Chaam means bowl
As much as I love Chris's content I think his lack of spoken Thai is bringing the experience down slightly. Not asking for complete fluency but I think even learning some phases for 15 minutes a day would go a long way.

5 dollars used to get a lot more in both Thailand, and the US. In my city I can get a mcdouble, and McChicken for 5 dollars because it's BOGO for 1 dollar haha. Can't even get just a big Mac, they are about 6 dollars. Average price for a meal at a restaurant, or fast food in Seattle is 12-15 USD these days. Thai food averages about $15 per dish. Only thing comparable is beer, we can actually get beer cheaper than Thailand I think.

In Medford Oregon USA July 2022, I can get a SMALL Starbucks white mocha, a Chik Fil A chicken sandwich or 2/3 of my favorite smoothie at a local shop. I can get 1/3 of Thai red curry with meat and white rice. That's right, they are charging $15 here. Luckily I can make it at home for a family of 4 for about $11.
5usd would get you half a lunch here or 2 bottles of beer at the liqourstore or a little more then half a beer at a pub. You'd get 1/4th of a drink at a restaurant/nightclub. You could get a one hour ticket for the local busses. A normal thai restaurant dish is usually 8-12 usd, at lunch drinks are included. Why do i spent a month in Thailand each year? well heres why.
