This is the best 8 bit soundtrack I’ve ever heard. I got this game 34 years ago when it came out. From my best friend on my 13th birthday. Still awesome
I was 9 and I never understood the password system and played it from start every new attempt. I remember rainy days after school, sitting on the carpet in front of the CRT TV. Only allowed to play till 6pm because then my parents would watch the news. I did beat it finally. The tension with so much to lose and the seemingly never ending route to Dr Willy. It felt like a real achievement, but also kind of sad i had reached the end. I remember that day still, it was one of those rainy days.

One of the greatest soundtracks ever produced for a video game...I loved that game since I was 9 or 10 I'm 41 and I remember the music track for track 30 plus yrs later that's how great this soundtrack was and still is
My friend, it was done by japanese people. They usually go 110% at w/e they do at the moment. Sometimes they pay high price but it's their culture. We are thankful for and happy with the results. Woodman nice ;)
@Mallory Oakes I honestly think they meant hard in the traditional sense. I can see why people would consider it hard, im looking back with experience so its probably unfair for me to say its not a hard game.
This intro makes this 37-year-old guy right here cry every time. Ohh, all those memories... Castlevania I to III might have overall the best soundtrack on NES, but Mega Man II and III had the best intro themes among games on any console.
8 or 9 years old ('88 or '89) and i got tired of playing the game in order to hear the music....dawned on me that my boombox had a small mic on the face and you could put blank cassettes in to record from there. I played every level for a minute or so and my friend would hit record as soon as I got to that level. Who'd know that others love the soundtrack just the same. Truly one of the absolute best NES games from 8-bit to whatever's on the market now.
17:13..... I couldn't wait to get to that point, every time I played. Just the music, the atmosphere, being close to the end of the game. Been an incredibly long time since there were only 2 Mega Man games......
Front to back this whole game is 10/10. And god damn, the OPENING and CREDITS music being the same is such a beautiful touch. Credits music is changed up a bit but it's like, so damn good I can't explain it. God damn this game rules.
The intro and 17:13 are my favorites. The rest of the game had stellar music as well, but those two points are the greatest in my opinion . I can still hum along to it to this day at 37 years old😂. One of the most iconic nes soundtracks!
So grateful to the creators of this incredible game. Music producers are astounding for what they had available. Making wonderful highly remembered music that gives me nostalgia from when I was only single digit age (with single digit 8 bit audio). Amazing
Single digit 8 bit audio? I don't know what that is. It had 5 independent, programmable, sound channels (2 squares, 1 triangle, 1 noise, and a delta-encoded sample playback). One of those (the sample playback) had a 7-bit range, while the others had 4-bit range. Still great music despite the limitations, yes.
Seriously great music. Look what they were working with. The arrangements are perfect for the hardware and the melodies are fantastic. They have real bands and orchestra music in games now and this puts most modern game soundtracks to absolute shame.
The title screen of this game and Wily’s Castle have to be the most iconic mega man song of all time, and definitely up there in the most iconic video game songs(Behind 1-1, Green Hill Zone, and Tetris.)
A few months ago I composed a soundtrack for a short game called TimeZooka, and I had memories of this soundtrack in the back of my mind giving me inspiration despite not having heard this in years. Finally listened to this today and wow the nostalgia!
I haven't played this for over 30 years, but can still remember every melody, bassline, percussion as if it was yesterday. It might be etched into my brain.
I'm from indonesia I like this game...the music of this game is good especially "Air Man and Dr.Wily's Castle" ... Thank you for accompanying my childhood in 1999
Man, listening to this soundtrack brings back tons of memories. I still have my NES and the cart in storage. Makes me want to crack it open and play. Still one of the most satisfying games to beat. The Mega Man series was always a go to for me.

Its impressive that they managed to make such a jamming and complex soundtrack with the limited sound tech the NES had
Exactly. This sounds great, but to be truly honest, it doesn't begin to touch what Tim Follin was capable of at the same time.
Absolutely! For its time this was pushing the NES's limited audio chipset to its absolute limits. But god was it glorious.
I think the limited technology of the era really forced composers into making the melodies absolutely slap.
I like it, there’s zero fat on any of it.

One of the greatest soundtracks ever produced for a video game...I loved that game since I was 9 or 10 I'm 41 and I remember the music track for track 30 plus yrs later that's how great this soundtrack was and still is
It's all about BUBBLE MAN's theme.. 5:33
One of the very best, most epic Game ST ever, period!
This tunes stuck in my head since I was 14.
Now I'm 42 and groove to them like hell.

That meme might be my all time favorite lmao
This music still gives me find memories. I will never forget mega man 2.
They really didn't need to go this freaking hard for their *_second_* attempt. Yet they did. And for that, we we're grateful.
Hard?

3音の魔法。もうほんと魔法としか言いようがない。
I will always love Quick Man’s theme.
Every single track on this is a bonafide #1. Incredible. It's a grand slam of grand slams.
Bubble man is my favorite...anyone with me?
It's definitely in the conversation

Bubble Man is one of my favorite video game songs of ALL TIMEZ.
Bubble man the npc👎🏻💔
Bubble man the ost 👌🏻✨
No Flashman is infinitely better
The intro and 17:13 are my favorites. The rest of the game had stellar music as well, but those two points are the greatest in my opinion . I can still hum along to it to this day at 37 years old😂. One of the most iconic nes soundtracks!
So grateful to the creators of this incredible game. Music producers are astounding for what they had available. Making wonderful highly remembered music that gives me nostalgia from when I was only single digit age (with single digit 8 bit audio). Amazing
Seriously just so genius, sound design is brilliant
Single digit 8 bit audio? I don't know what that is.
It had 5 independent, programmable, sound channels (2 squares, 1 triangle, 1 noise, and a delta-encoded sample playback). One of those (the sample playback) had a 7-bit range, while the others had 4-bit range.
Still great music despite the limitations, yes.

This was the first game I ever owned for myself and I still hum the songs to myself from time to time. :D
I remember having to ask my big sister for help on some of the levels as a kid.
Me too from time to time I get a random stage song like woodman or airman
Seriously great music. Look what they were working with. The arrangements are perfect for the hardware and the melodies are fantastic.
They have real bands and orchestra music in games now and this puts most modern game soundtracks to absolute shame.
The title screen of this game and Wily’s Castle have to be the most iconic mega man song of all time, and definitely up there in the most iconic video game songs(Behind 1-1, Green Hill Zone, and Tetris.)
Nothing beats str8 up 8-bit sounds, nothing.
Captures all the emotion/heart. Today's stuff will never come close, long live 8-bit era.

What is good is timeless.

Best soundtrack of all time
A few months ago I composed a soundtrack for a short game called TimeZooka, and I had memories of this soundtrack in the back of my mind giving me inspiration despite not having heard this in years. Finally listened to this today and wow the nostalgia!
I haven't played this for over 30 years, but can still remember every melody, bassline, percussion as if it was yesterday. It might be etched into my brain.
I always thought Crash Man sounded like a bad ass ice cream truck

Best mega man soundtrack of all time
Hands. down.
Mega Man X is a close second for me.
Debateable with mm9.
Man, listening to this soundtrack brings back tons of memories. I still have my NES and the cart in storage. Makes me want to crack it open and play. Still one of the most satisfying games to beat. The Mega Man series was always a go to for me.
I sold my NES games some time back because of financial issues, I looked at this game and went.. I don't want to, but have to. Megaman.

Me too. When you look the years has passed you feel time runs fast.
Those days of playing in front of the TV with some friends. It was the best time I've ever had.

The composers were not 'limited by the technology of the time'. This was state of the art for its time, the real leading edge. They did an amazing job!
They definitely were lol. Even compared to what they would have in the 90s
They used what they had and made timeless masterpieces
I agree! @@canontheory

You should've heard it played live by a symphony orchestra, that's real.
Best intro sequence of any video game
Bubble Man's theme might be my favorite piece of video game music ever. It is indescribable how it makes me feel. It's amazing
It is my favorite in this game too. Many “water stage” music in video games has that certain appeal to me and this is the epitome of it.
