Truly a standout videogame soundtrack. I'd say 99% of these songs - including cutscene songs - are timeless and, to be fair, simply genius compositions. The game itself rocked HARD.
I'm listening to the soundtrack in "PAL mode" (speed 0.9 and tone 94%) and noticed that this is how some kind of tragedy appears in the music. And in any case. Not only here.
My all time favorite Ninja Gaiden for the NES trilogy.
Corrderio Great soundtrack, better then the first Ninja Gaiden for NES, listen for the third game. And I will say it sucks. The first they did good, the second great, but the third they dropped the ball.
Blackholelord Blackholelord Yeah I played through all the NES ones. The 3rd wasn't too bad, but the whole continues thing was pretty stupid. I also heard the translation was pretty botched.

SO GOOD. They really pushed the NES to the limits with its sound capabilities. The music sound SO GOOD, even though we know it's NES synth.

I mean they cheated with nes, each cart usually had extra chips for the extra audio, color palettes and stuff, the console itself got exploited a long time ago and was on life support with customs chips in the carts
The Japanese people are lovers of art, music is their passion, it's no wonder that these games always touched us when we were young, just listen to the soundtracks of this one and Castlevania games, works of art.

Dude 1-1 was seriously an underrated track. I’ve always really liked that one.
This whole game had such a kick ass soundtrack.
1-1 kept me from playing the game first time I played it. It was like potato chips, I couldn't listen to it enough.
A true masterpiece... easily one of my top 5 favorite games of all time.

People seemed to like 6:02 alot, but my favorite was 5:01. It was such a short stage with such a great song that you never heard again. Just love the fast-pacedness of it.

This game was a huge part of my childhood, music .. everything. I remember that I consider it as a dream to have when I lived in a very poor area where there is no food or ..NES sources. I cried .. cried .. and I will keep crying for lovely memories. 10:17 and 16:59 . But now I am happy that I am an artist who will be able to create amazing works and for the better future. And I am sure I will create something inspired by this!

23:06 I remember the first time I beat game. Ryu with Irene watching the sun go down, and then a shooting star passing by, OH MY GOD!! Tears came rolling down! I was so moved, thrilled and happy at the same time. I remember going outside to buy something for my mom at the store. As I was walking everything was like in a different color tone. Remember Neo from The Matrix when he was able to finally see the lines of codes? I felt just like that.
You beat the game the legit way? I could never do it, I had to use emulators and save states 20+ years later...

I can really relate to that bro. 1993, I still had my nes and a copy of NG2. It was the end of school semester. Friday. I arrived from school, started the game and it when on, and on, and on. Until finally Jaquio was cut down in his final form. I couldn’t believe it. It was a very good semester in school, with very good grades. However, that was nothing compared to the feeling of watching the Dark Blade of Chaos being shattered, the demonic castle crumbling and Ryu resurecting Irene with the power of the Dragon Sword. Also, shouts to the final sunset and that shooting star.!
I beat it legit. Three days of the NES on while I was at school or asleep, paused on that final level. Was so excited I had my mom come downstairs to watch the ending (I did this with games, sometimes we took a photo to send to Nintendo Power which we never did). This one wasn't like Megaman or Castlevania. This was different, the ending to a STORY and not just a staff roll. I was too young to realize it, but Ryu and Irene's story is actually really good. They earned their happy ending.
Years later, my friend moved away and I watched a sunset from my brother's room playing this song on my NES (didn't have to beat the game again, I had the code for the music player).

See your comments praising this game thoroughly. I strongly agree with you as I purchased this one @ launch when I was about 13 or 14. It was the easiest to complete, but my favorite of the original trilogy, hands-down. This entry was as close to perfection as they got, until Ninja Gaiden Black!

I'm only familiar with the first one, but must say I'm very impressed with the sound design. The percussions and mainly the snare drums are insane!
I always find myself headbanging to the track "Rushing Forward" at 5:01. Awesome track.
I remember picking this game out at ToysRUs back in the early 90's when you would take the piece of paper to the cash register and they would go to a room you could see inside and them giving me the game, putting that sucker on when I got up and was blown away buy how badass the music was.

What I loved most about this game was how this game _felt_ like a movie!
The music, story and cutscenes were all created so well together that a masterpiece was born. Very few games in gaming history managed to reach the level of this game(in my opinion).
I wish Final Fantasy took lessons from this game. Perfect blend of story and gameplay -- feels like a reward after an intense stage
I still think "Battling Precariously" is a masterpiece, no exaggeration. With all those NES limitations making such a soundtrack is a work of art!

tantos años jugando esta trilogia y conociendomela de memoria (desde 1991 y ya tengo 36 años) que cuando escuche "INEVITABLE" (20:26) fue literalmente inevitable que no me explotara la cabeza al no reconocer esa pista, tuve que leer y ver que fue una pista no usada en el juego, todos los dias definitivamente se aprende algo nuevo

It's good, but there are so many good tracks in this game that for me, this is one of the "weaker" ones. I have a feeling the makers thought so too, since it and 3-1 didn't get selected for the random plays in 7-2.

Game today are so much easier. No save states/files... If you were called for dinner you had two options: Starve and continue playing, or give up and go eat. I have to say one of the most brutal games for this was Mortal Kombat... No freakin' pause option. Come on!
