Composed by David Wise. Recreated by me. This was made possible by locating the original instrument samples from workstation keyboards and drum machines before they were put into the game and rebuilding the soundtrack from the ground up, applying some modern mixing techniques along the way to lift the veil of 16bit compression and create an updated listening experience. Part of a project to restore the entire DKC series soundtrack. Follow me on Twitter for more updates: / princesamlet
Sound sources:
E-Mu E-Max, Korg Wavestation, Ensoniq TS-10, Harmor
Ive worked underground as a miner for over 10 years now and i can say playing this game as a kid was alot more fun than the real thing.
Which only a true artist can achieve. He captured the fun of music vs mining, in a song about mining. Blows the mind. Almost like he knew how to write music.
Is it melancholic?
this is dedicated to everyone that left their game on paused to hear this.
Here here!
As a kid I thought the background vocal harmonies were the sounds of the bees buzzing to the music. Hearing the restored vocals really changes a lot. Incredible.
I had a pair of Sony Walkman headphones that I plugged into my TV, so I could hear the sound clearly. I thought it was the other Kongs singing.
I don't think any of the Donkey Kong Country games had vocal samples, it was all SNES instrument trickery. Even the laugh that you heard from some enemies and Krool.
@@myhandleiswhatthat’s amazing
Same, I thought it was so cool that the Zingers got a verse.
Oh, my god, the choral voices genuinely made my jaw drop ... I could instantly picture the miners singing somberly while toiling away in the depths.
In 16 bit I always thought it was Zingers making the sounds (the goddamn bumble bees in the level). literally never knew it was people's voices until hearing it now, 20 years later.
@@user-lc2oy1iu2c you arent the only one
Auto tuned Bees actually
@CatusMagus it's more than just the Choral Voices, when I hear it it's like the Ghosts of the Miners Lamenting their Lifes are now gone put that on your head and the Meaning of Mining Melancoly would hit very more HARD
its crazy what david wise and rare did to pull of the music and audio in these games
David Wise man, why is his music so freakin good? 😭
@@hellavart not wrong
David Wise is awesome 🤩
'Cus he's a flat earther.
@@Bessux what?
@@Bessux what do you mean? Are you one OF those guys?
Man this dude missed all the secret items.
Jammn too cool 😎 for them!! The music explains!!

Yes! Now I can mine to this even longer
in minecraft?
@@jadendafinger he can mine anywhere he wants as long as he has the degrees, the skills, and the permits(insert meaningless emojis here).

Been waiting on the extended ...now I need the super extended 1 hour version
lone_soldier22 nice!
I read 10 hours version?
I love how Rare recycled the “Clanks and Chimes” from Misty Menace to use as part of the Intro. Always a great job carrying elements out from sequel to sequel.
This comment made me search for and listen to that song.
and a bit of Life In The Mines ??
but yea, most percussion is from Misty Menace, indeed
Not rare, but david wise. The man himself is just a fricking musical genius.
Is more like a sequel of the previous theme
Also David Wise used the Cart Landing SFX sound from the First game to represent the sound of pickaxes mining. Truly lives up to the "Wise" in his name.
Been jamming to this since I was 5. 28 years later I'm still jamming. I'll be back 28 years later to tell you that I'm still jamming to this!!!
I can see why Mining Melancholy is such a popular DKC2 song, it's very relaxing.
My top 4 DKC songs are so neck and neck it's hard to pick one over the other but man this one lately is starting to edge out.
-Stickerbrush
-Mining Melancholy
-Forest Interlude
-Aquatic Ambiance
TekMan05 Those are my favourite songs too
Snowbound
Excellent four! Mine are:
Mining Melancholy
Stickerbush Symphony
Aquatic Ambiance
Fear Factory
Honorable mention would definitely be Hot-Head Bop
gotta throw hot head bop on there
-Aquatic ambience
-mining melancholy
-life in the mines
-fear factory
For me! Butt tbh I wish I can pick more but u sed top 4 😂
This feels like how it was truly meant to sound. Love the original, but I wonder if this is what it would have sounded like if they were able to push beyond the SNES limitations back then.
It would've probably sounded a little better, but yeah, not much different, I guess.
I mean to my knowledge they already did push the snes as far as it could go back then. they apparently caused town power outings because of how much they were pushing the limits of the tech
@@ChereraTaguato That's his point, I think.
@@607 right but at the same time the limitations are what creates the genre. that's what helps keep this kind of music unique
Man I hadn’t heard this song in a long time, I thought this was the snes version till I read your comment 😂
I just nostalgia'd so hard I actually started to cry holy shit
You're doing God's work

Right? This takes me back to my childhood at my best friends house.
DKC trilogy is a work of art and masterpiece. Peak Rare, graphics that still hold up, other worldly atmosphere, art and graphics and amazing ost.
Brazil loves this song 100%🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This stage crystals have even brazil colors🔵🟡🟢

Um BR no meu comentário nossa q emocionante em saber q existe mais como eu q gosta de mais dessa música kkkk q nostalgia......

Realy true❤
Most underrated song in the whole series. Stickerbush Symphony is better, but this one is so catchy, and NO ONE can remix it properly!
Thank you so much for remastering one of my favorite songs in the DKC series!
I agree, some of the synth has always sounded funky until now
I love stirckerbrush but I feel it’s overrated. It’s definitely top 10. But not number one I’m my opinion. This song is better I feel
I’m not sure it’s worth trying to rate them. Maybe better to appreciate them as top form of David Wise. Stickerbrush, this song, treetops, many songs among the DKC soundtracks are really excellent. It’ll probably drive you crazy trying to rate them against each other.
thespecialbru agreed 100%
I made a remix of this song sometime ago I made it in like 2 hours, its in my channel if you wanna hear it, and I can say that its quite difficult to remix xd
David Wise has this amazing ability to depict the beauty of sadness.
I judge the reworks and remixes of this track by 1:23, and you absolutely NAILED it 110%
Yeah
Honestly I feel like it should have been humming, but this is still good.
@@masterboa6321 Nah, the soundfont is indeed a choir on that instrument. Crunched down to 16bit hell, but it's recognizable as an "oh" and not a "hm" if you check it from the sound test.
Take a moment to consider that is actually a choir of bees buzzing in harmony against you.
makes me so glad my entire childhood was based in the 90s. nothing better, nothing compared to the world today.
Facts 💯
Yes
We grew up in the perfect era.,
A brilliant piece that speaks of a sadness. Simply wonderful.
MY FAVORITE TRACK FROM DKC2 SINCE I WAS A KID... AND NOW ON HD? GOD THANK YOU
I listen to this song for Stress Healing. :)
Ah ha I finally found a flaw in your DKC restoration music...never mind I had wax in my ears... 😤 damn it you are awesome.
Love this, it's noticeable all the effort by the author and the restorer, it's evident the quality.
I am amazed at how similar this DKC theme is. with the group TEARS FOR FEARS - SHOUT more or less have the same intro
Ooooh!
Rare games had a ton of inspirations from earlier music like Golden eye Facility levels sounds like INXS Devil Inside
Also, I just noticed that Bayou Boogie starts just like Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight.
There's probably a couple more too
@@x3mbr And this very track and the drum solo from the very song you just mentioned.
Also getting some Depeche Mode vibes with all the industrial sounds.
Wow amazing job Jammin's Sam! When I was a kid I was always singing this and now sounds so clear and beautiful. Good old memories will never die and not even more with this piece of magic restoration. Bravo amigo, saludos!
I love that there's these levels that aren't just a straightforward "point A to point B" scenario. This level is a puzzle.
For years I thought the humming sound we heard in the back ground was the Zingers Buzzing.
same
It is, that should be canon.
This song is what made me fall in love with videogame ost, listen to it again restored is amazing and I always come back here or to the Og when I need to hear something good
This song, beat, and the feel defies the 90s perfectly man. God my all time favorite level in dkc 2. God I'm so God damn glad I'm a 90s child.
When I close my eyes and listen to this its like I went into a time machine back in time
I will play this song in my car when its midnight while heading home from work.
Mr. Miller sir, you are far too underappreciated considering the sheer quality of your compositions. Keep up the fantastic work man!
This song is flawless.
This and Donkey Kong country 1 had the best music
That orchestra hit has some real punch, I love it!
I was reminded of this music and its stages whenever I explored mines in Elden Ring.
Best donkey Kong country of the whole series!!!
Essa trilha sonora é fantástica
Sim maravilhosa, gosto também da Forest interlude, outra música do jogo boa pra ouvir.
This sounds magical!
Snowbound, Aquatic, Forrest, Stickerbrush. All others are honourable mentions.
ドン2の曲は、世界中のあらゆるゲームの中でも、不動のトップクラスのクオリティと人気を誇ります。
Holy fuck dude you KILLED IT! This sounds like the original in every way that matters, but also sounds SO MUCH BETTER due to your expert work. I was like "Damn why does this sound better than the original game somehow?!" and then I read the description and it made sense. I'll definitely donate when I can.
One of the best tracks in the whole series for sure
This hits so differently with headphones. Especially 1:23
I like that this version has the bees!!
This music reminds me of Saturdays..... I don't know why. 😂
I always imagined the Krooks dancing with a glass full of alcohol to this song for some reason. Cheers! 🥂🧊
I thought differently. They ARE the song. The clanging and banging is their pickaxes and hammers, working away the stone. The humming is a song all of them sing at once because there’s nothing else to do. The Kremlings are known to be mistreated by their king, so who knows how long they’ve been down here, away from water, away from home, away from their families? Just working away at the stone, again and again, day after day. Maybe this place is even a prison of sorts, a labor camp for Kremlings who upset their king. They sleep at night among the rats and in the dirt, just a short few hours of solace from the long days of work that they are forced to do.
Muchas gracias Sam Miller, te agradezco infinitamente :( es mi niñez.

I like a lot these restorations, it gives a fresh life to the original tracks we loved :)
This might be my fav out of all your remastered songs. Excellent job!
CONGRATULATIONS!! I'm brazilian and was search an this is the best quality song! tks! sucess!!
Tamo junto meu manoooooo🇧🇷🇧🇷❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is absurdly good. Always a favorite
Great Version! I remember it from 1996 when i played the game for the first time.
The worldview is so beautiful!!
I want to work at mines in this game.
This is how the song already sounded to me back in 96 😂 my imagination completely made it like this. As clear as f.
This is the platonic form of beauty in video games.
I'd pay for you to extend snow bound land next 🥺🥺
The better your bass, the better this song sounds. 👌
TOP music in the game you hear that base.
Come on lads, let's get it done
A high quality and extended take of this! THANK YOU! This was such a great song. I remember humming and doing the vocals for this as a little kid on the swingset. It just stuck in my head and the choir vocals were just so amazing to me. Between this and Stickerbrush Symphony, this game's music blew me away as a kid. Aquatic Ambiance from DKC1 also. Just such fantastic pieces of music that instilled in me a lifelong love. THANKS again!!
1:23 when I heard that part I always thought it was the Bees singing or buzzing melodically.
Me too! Glad I'm not the only one :D
You guys aren't alone! :D
OWAH Aww! XD
I think its just the crocodiles being bored so they got a mic and started singing and got into fighting mood
i love that scan lines....
I like the gameplay in the background. Thanks lol
Sounds like a inderstrial revolution overture's hammer sequence sound of Jean Micheal Jarre. :-)
Yes! This is the one I've been waiting for
Donkey Kong country 2 has the best music in the trilogy
Masterpiece.
this is the best song ever made, david wise is the goat, pumping remade sam
Thank you!
We’re all here for 0:35 let’s be honest
Anyone else here from that one guy on r/ketamine talking about how he turned into a beaver listening to this lmao
Come on lads, let's get it done
You what? 💀💀

this is better than mining in minecraft
2:35 pain
LMAO!!!!!! XDXDXD Definitely! : (
This song slaps you silly then let's you barely leave the cave.
I enjoy Stickerbrush Symphony, but this is way better
Agreed
i dont like how the humming was changed too "ooh" but whatever. its a pretty decent recreation. im jammin it.
It's actually the same sound but when they put it in the SNES, they had to crush the quality so much that it sounded more like a hum
@@JamminSamMiller LOL, holy crap i didnt know that, my apologies dude. thank you!
@@JamminSamMiller Ooh, interesting! Thanks a ton!
What a banger.
Listening now I gives me metroid prime 2 vibes especially the torvis bog area. Good stuff all around
The music is amazing 🤩 love it 😍
i love these restorations but honestly, and this is the first time im saying this so far, i think this piece works better with the snes compression. it does a better job of hiding the voices and blending it down to sound more like the buzzing of a zinger, which is one of my favorite parts of the piece, and having it just sound like a choir of "ooh"s kinda ruins that aspect. everything else is good but i always felt that was a super important part of the piece and i guess the compression really works in the piece's favor in that aspect
I picture it as tired workers forced to keep mining by K. Rool. Hence the name of the song.
@@judewelos lol essentially this is a slave song....in a very PG fashion. I got that vibe in 95 too though!
I wonder how hard it would be to take this same restoration and insert a HQ zinger buzzing instead of the voices just to see how it would sound?
@@TekMan05 That's an interesting take! I can totally see it
most of the songs i prefer their compressed original versions, but there's something special about this one. i like this one a LOT
esta soundtrack es super buenisimo, podria escucharlo todo el dia ♥
Coming back to this gem after a few years. Thank you again for all of your hard work in restoring so many songs from many different titles!
This sounds even more like awesome workout music than the original! Fantastic!
Para sempre pelo menos em meu coração ❤
I've listened to this song 20 times now! I'm about to get SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO obsessed with this tune!
No joke playing Minecraft with this songs hits different while going underground
I cant belive i used to play this shit ib my 32 inch Toshiba mono sound and i fucking loved it what an amazing time
Before they made the LOTR movies, when I read Tolkien's LOTR Trilogy, I imagined this playing in the background when the heroes were journeying through the Mines of Moria.
david wise and sam miller, i love you both :-*
The best game ever 😊
I swear i don't know which one is better, forest interlude or this one
This is what art sounds like... Not no generic pop song.
I'm sorry but it's true xD
I love 90s music like this, so much emotion. This rocks! (No pun intended).
excelente trabajo de remasterizado, gracias por compartir estas obras de arte en buena calidad.
