The OST for DKC2 is surprisingly mature and moody for a game about two chimps jumping on crocodiles. Rareware was ahead of their time. They were like the Pixar of videogames.
What if Rareware was bought by Disney instead of Microsoft…. Just think of the character rights that rare made in rare can make games for PlayStation Xbox and make Nintendo look bad for getting rid of Rare. Just think how Disney can advertise characters from Rareware and make them as a advertise show or movie reality…… or if Disney bought rare and it came up with a system for rare A ultimate console but still had the fundamentals of a Nintendo and PlayStation setup. I’m just saying this because Disney got money like that and they all about success. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 but I could be wrong. Lol
Well, the music is moody like naturally, and when lonely, deep, sensitive or obsessed, such a mood can carry someone away like they're in a different world. And chimps are natural, as are beautiful environments, such as forests and beaches. And since chimps are intelligent creatures, and the Kong characters are smart, intelligent, creative and communicate just like humans, and games and cartoons often have animal characters that are just as smart, etc like humans, it's how designers come up with such ideas for such games. It's a combination of the human mind and using nonhuman characters who are smart like humans. As well as entertainment.
Yay! Hearing this as a kid I was mesmerized by how melancholy and chill the sound was. I remember pausing the game in order to listen to it completely/ (the last bit) which I seldom heard due to the fact when entering a bonus room, it reset the track.
Haha I would do this too! On many levels. I could appreciate the beauty and joy these games brought me as a child. Sometimes I still have DKC dreams! Lol my dreams are brief and scattered though 😔 more dream games
Jammin' Sam Miller, I think higher quality graphics wouldn’t look as good as the gritty and dark yet beautiful and nostalgic graphics that are used in the games, however, your restored versions of the songs or themes from these games you have on your channel are great.
@@fatmario8244 I couldn't agree more. I hear a lot of people whining about not getting a DKC remake compilation like the crash N-sane trilogy. I'll admit, I was one of those people for a short while But some games just don't need to be remade. Why mess with a good thing? All that matters is that they're kept accessible. Which is why I'm VERY happy that DKC 1 and 2 are now on NSO. If Nintendo/retro studios ever want to remake these games, I'll check it out. I think we should all just happy to have them on the switch in any capacity though. These are beautiful games, through and through.. They deserve to be cherished and loved. The folks at rare put their hearts and souls into making these games. The least we could do is just be happy to have them on switch, and play the crap out of them. And, of course, support sam here so he can keep working his magic. I hope David Wise is watching at least some of his vids, with a big bright smile.
Personally I think they don't look as good when they're not with a CRT filter and they're on a HD display. It's just too pixelated, they look great in the way they're presented here with the filter though. At least the Switch has some sort of CRT filter even if it's not the best.
man, this makes me feel like a kid again... sitting in a car on a trip to see family in Florida, earbuds plugged into my GBA SP, listening to forest interlude off of DKC2 GBA's sound test... of course the GBA version isnt nearly as deep in terms of the bass, but man, even on the GBA this was an incredible piece of music and hearing it now, with this incredible deep bass and ambiance... i could cry 🥺💖
There's something about this video that every night when I go to bed, I sometime watch youtube or read a book or browse social media, but somehow, at the end of every night when I start to get tired, I always come back to this video, and every time I do, it makes me happy. Thank you for your amazing work, no matter how many times I listen to it, it makes me happy
Is it weird to say that it's not hearing this music in 2020 as nostalgic but the intended composition of the music itself evokes a sense of nostalgia. Oddly enough this wasn't my favorite song from dkc2, nor the lava stage. To me it felt out of place in my kid brain. Yet now as a adult, I appreciate these tunes more. Hearing the forest theme with fresh ears just evokes a familiar sound like it was always meant to sound ancient and whimsical.

Music is so powerful. David Wise is a genius, he truly lives up to his name. Donkey Kong 2 was a true gem, something I enjoyed as a kid but didn't really understand how great it really was. Sometimes the stars align and we get something really amazing. This is it! :) As they say in Step Brothers, never lose your dinosaur. That kid is still a part of you, he/she is still inside of you. He/she always was. He/she will always be there. All you need to do is to channel that energy, and you will be that child again. Climbing those ropes. :)
Wonderful music and memories flowing! That's truly a restoration of a time, where it was simpler. Kids still played on the streets freely, with wooden and sometimes mechanic toys, and not cellphones. The 90s untold stories were registered on the memories of the Genesis and SNES generation.
Absolutely love that you use images from the old game guide books for thumbnails. I used to carry them with me everywhere when I was a kid and try to draw all of pictures in them.

I was listening to this and started a video in another tab. I then realized, this is one of the only songs I can listen to at full volume while watching a talking heavy video. I tried with the original version of the song, and it was a little harder to understand the video. I'm not sure what you did in the mixing to make it not interfere with speech, but this is perfect background music.
