Giving melee Barret the deadly dodge materia in addition to elemental attacks is quite hilarious. He essentialy does a Barret roll.

I personally place everyone's stagger attack in their triangles, that way I don't have to think too hard about my attack shortcuts.
Following a formula is the easiest way to success! I say it alot but there is no right or wrong way to play this game and I looove it. I can't wait to see what they do with remake part 2 with all the materia combinations etc
@@BltzZLol as a Brawler (Cloud's my main) I'm more curious with the new abilities we'll get, and possibly combination attacks.
Or even the ability to use specials and dodge in the air like in Advent Children🤯🤯

I put all my focused attacks on square. I was wondering though, does Aerith have something that works like a focused attack. She doesn’t have an ability with “focus” in the name so I was just curious.
No she does not, but her magic attacks are super strong. When an enemy is pressure be sure to use Blizzaga or Blizzara as aerith as it can instant stagger most enemies! But aerith can increase stagger percent like tifa with ray of Judgement
Wrecking ball was surprisingly good, but I needed his ranged attacks for most fights. But when I did use his melee weapons "It's clobbering time!"
Yup! Melee Barret is wildly dependent on grounded fights. Either that or have tifa and aerith take care of the air combo wombos! It's definitely clobbering time
just max the proficiency for his melee weapons and use them any time while you have the ranged weapon equipped

I stumbled upon how good Barrett's melee build is when I got to chapter 14 and did the solo colosseum match. I finished cloud and tifa first, then when I switched to Barret I had forgotten I recently switched to a melee weapon and hadn't tried it out yet before. What surprised me most was that Barret with melee gave me the least trouble in that match than tifa and cloud did just because I could basically permastun most enemies and how good smackdown is at dealing damage. In the end, Barret clocked in the lowest match finish time as well as the lowest damaged received of all 3 characters. The irony is that at the time, most RUclipsrs were still saying Barrett's melee build is basically useless
Most RUclipsrs that uploaded videos early on for this did not experiement with it's full potential and wanted to cash in on early views from it being a new game..I admit I did the same but taking my time and learning the ins and outs of these characters have been the most fun I've had in a long time. I don't mind the views I only care about bringing you guys the best possible videos I can make while also surprising you all with builds!
My build for Barret really revolves around the boss fight he and Aerith have with the tank and its drones late in the game.

This is a tough battle and a highlight of the game as one of the great battles. The first several times, I was defeated.
Finally, I got the right combination, and it's something I look forward to in subsequent playthroughs.
Something important to note about melee Barret that's really useful: When you use his overrun ability he blocks attacks as he's drilling into enemies, which makes it much safer to use.
Very great insight I didn't realize it functioned in that way haha
This game needs way more content then what is available at the moment with such a fun combat and customizable system!
It's almost criminal that they don't have that! I'd love a VR coop mode or more bosses on hard mode to play via VR
@@BltzZ nice content. Yup this would be a very good DLC and multi-player content. Wherein each player use one character and go through different enemies and show people their builds. Maybe add some cosmetics. They just need to make AI better and enemies stat stronger to counter the three man team like what Monster Hunter World is doing. Pretty good way for them to gain money while we wait for the next part.
I think they are taking all of this into consideration (hopefully) but if they don't dont for remake 2 then they would have missed the greatest game of all time opportunity
Well look no further because next month we're getting Yuffie's story. But sadly it's only for PS5 :(

Barret Wallace is my favorite character. I enjoyed the video.
He is my favorite too especially with enemy skill and his melee build! Hands down the funnest character after tifa.

You already covered how Big Bertha + max HP Up takes Barret to nearly the max 9999HP; give him the Fat Chocobo Summon Materia and you'll cover the last 200+ HP or so to make it happen. That saves you a Materia or Accessory slot, plus it's hilarious dumping the lardbird on the 300 pound sack of shit. :D
One thing I find works very well with Barret is the ATB Boost command Materia. Start every encounter by popping off Overcharge, immediately hit L1+R1 to activate ATB Boost, and you get the full 2 ATB charges right off the bat to pop off Steelskin and Lifesaver immediately. Plus once the cooldown is over, you can use ATB Boost again in a pinch to get the charge you need for a Chakra/Prayer heal.
Because Barret's so good at building ATB, I gave my third Refocus Materia to him; this time, I pair it with the Transference Module accessory to take advantage of a feedback loop. He builds ATB fast, and spends it fast with Steelskin/Lifesaver/Chakra/Prayer, building his LB gauge that much faster. Then once it builds up to full, popping the Refocus LB lets him build and spend ATB even faster, and build his second LB that much faster towards Catastrophe. Basically the longer the fight goes, the better Barret gets.
That's a sick ass idea dude as well as a nice build to definitely test out in love it! Refocus is clutch especially with transference module. But when you get Gotterdammerung its game over!!
@@BltzZ Sure, but you only get one of those, so IMO it only makes sense to put it on Cloud since he's the one guy you can almost always be sure is in the party.
Transference Module is the second-best choice, especially for Barret who's ATB-thirsty. It's also why I gave Aerith the Spectral Cogwheel, since she's similarly MP-thirsty.
Nice for me I use transference every now and then on tifa because I constantly use ATB skills like nothing with her. Double unbridles and overpower for days! Then focused strike fills itself back up after it lands so I spam focused strike and deadly dodge to clip the animation and repeat. She has limit breaks in almost every fight that way
@@BltzZ Huh. I got used to giving Tifa the Clarity Pendant, and Barret the Transference Module... maybe I should try having them swap accessories, and see how that works.

Absolutely loving this content. Can't wait for the Aerith video to come out. For what its worth I'd also love to see a guide where you list various builds but for a whole party. Since a lot of the materia and equipment is limited it's often difficult to decide which characters would benefit the most from them and how best to make builds that are cohesive.
That's a really good concept someone else recommended too. I wanna finish the Aerith advanced guide then we will be bringing on the variety!
I agree on this for a whole party build because the armor accessories are limited for many characters (Chain Bangle -1). Could be both Physical as well Magical for group build or mix of both. The possibilities are just endless i'm sure.

Love these videos. Messed around with the melee builds after watching this. It felt strong, however, I like having him as my tank/healer. I’m guessing things might change when I run through on hard mode. Thanks again for making these!
That's what I love about this game there is no right or wrong way to play! melee build will be fun but a bit tricky on hard mode but im up for the challenge haha
Every playable character is so much fun to use. I hope they have every boss battle in the combat simulator for us to fight them over and over again and try different character on different boss.
I'd love that tbh there are so many things they can do or add. On top of your suggestion id love to see a Co-Op mode added in too!!

Really awesome and in depth video man. Enjoyed the detailed analysis and playstyle. Despite finishing the game on normal and playing in Hardmode, i am surprised at just how much i'm actually learning and picking up watching these videos that gives me a different angle to look at characters as well Materia Combo. I've come to the conclusion though that there is just limitless possibilities where there are just so many ways and builds in how anyone can build and play there characters and that's just kudos to the game itself. Materia's you should also test because they seem so very under used are Poisons & Synergy Materia.
I agree the Materia system is the reason i fell in love with ff7 original. I can't wait to see how many more combinations there are when remake 2 comes along! Can't wait

Incredible work! I have never even tried to put Deadly Dodge on Barret, so it was cool to see what his animation looked like. Looking forward to the Aerith whenever it may come!

Barret also has a unique Deadly Dodge animation with his ranged weapons. He sweeps his gun-arm from left to right firing multiple shotgun-like blasts hiting anything immediately in front of him.

He can bring in the pain and refills ATB and Staggers like no one’s business. Funny you mentioned the Chakra Materia because I equipped it on Barret after you encouraged me to use it on the Tifa advance guide due to my initial skepticism. XD

Just a note: Deadly Dodge when Barret uses a gun is a very fast horizontal swipe with his gun whilst his gun rapidly shoots a fan of bullets. Because of how spammable this move is and because the attack will hit the same enemy multiple times if he's right up close, it has surprisingly high damage output in crowds or against large enemies, and will pressure/stagger enemies more than it has any right to.
Damn I had this written in my notes to record and I completely forgot to. That's the issue with recording these late at night smh thanks! I'll include this in individual weapons builds videos

Thank you for this. I think the other character play styles are more straightforward and easier to pickup. I had a hard time figuring out how to play Barret other than shoot from distance lol. About halfway through hard mode now and I think I'll start to play him more with these tips.

Yo, I usually use Barret as more of a tank/healer so your last build for him would definitely suit my play style. I also like he's big bertha build as well and am currently using it during my second play through on hard mode. I like the idea of Barret as a tank because he practically is one even before you start building him. High HP and defenses and a bigass gun on him at all times makes him a rather literal definition of a tank, and with what you've showcased in this guide, it's clear that's what he's supposed to do. I mostly control Barret when there's enemies out of melee range but after this, I may have to try switching up my playstyle a bit :D
You really outdid yourself with this one. I just have to get all the dresses to platinum the game and I haven't played in almost a week, but you're making me want to pick up the game again and try a melee tank build!

@@BltzZ I heard you can get the Biker Boy trophy easily by playing on easy mode (go figure). Man, hard mode was extremely aggravating at times! I found myself cursing at my TV a lot of the time due to frustration! To be honest though, things seem a bit too easy going back to normal mode. I took off the HP Up materia on most of my characters besides Aerith just because the battles end so quick now lol
Haha yeah! I had a viewer say they thought the game was too easy and hard mode doesn't interest them. Then I explained the mechanics behind what hard mode is with items and MP being scarce. He said he wanted to try it again haha hopefully he does and experiences this like the rest of us
@@BltzZ hard mode was miserable, but I'm glad I played it because it gives you access to everything basically. I can max out whatever weapons I want and try out different playstyles.
I was only using Barret as healer and damage absorb for the others on regular and hard play thrus, kinda ignored the melee weapons, but now Im about build him for close ranged damage and Im very excited!

To be honnest out of the 4 characters Barret is the character I enjoy the least to play as, I don't deny his usefulness (especially against Aerial ennemies), however your vid was informative I'm gonna try to dig more into him.
was bored with Barret at the beginning, but entering Chapter 12 I began to enjoy using Barret as main player in battles.

For hard mode I’ll use Barret as a support/ healer. His bulk is so good for it. I loved the idea of provoke on him.
Yeah for sure! Barret is definitely the go to character for tanking with support. On hard mode pray and chakra are your best friends!
wow your videos get better and better!! This gave me so many ideas I hadn't even considered! When you are done with Aerith you should do a popular party builds video....Cloud Barret Tifa, Cloud Aerith Tifa, Cloud Barret Aerith, and finally Tifa Barret Aerith. Only 4 builds would cover every major point in the game and would showcase how to balance your party better instead of putting all your resources into 1 player. Maybe even talking about which parties are best for some of the hardest content in the game which is the simulator battles etc

BltzZ you ever play Nier Automata? Seems like another game I feel like you probably really liked. Would love to see some content from that game as well as there isn’t much online that breaks down the combat like you do.
I played it a few months ago actually but never beat it I will consider redownloading it and check it out I'm open to all content ideas
BltzZ ya man it’s definitely got some room for content... a lot of people just mash buttons and don’t actually think about strategy in that game... best chips, best weapon combos, how to stack weapon effects, best pods/programs. I feel like you should specialize in action rpg stuff based on how well you broke down ff7 remake and it would give your channel a lot more longevity. Plus honestly you seem to pick up these aspects a lot better then the average person.
The tank build is my favorite that's how I use my Barret. The Steadfast Block was a great idea to me in the beginning but Cloud is in the fray so much I felt it was better for him to use...that was before I learned how to counter better tho...so I may have to trade it back to Barret. I got auto cure on him as well so soon as Provoke procs he heals his teammate up.
I can't remember if you can only get 2 or 3 steadfast blocks in the game I have to double check! Yeah I'd keep it on Barret personally and just parry and counter stance enemies to death with cloud :)
@L2 Sentinel u can buy more from chadley that's what I did. I just dont have enough space to fit it on a 2nd character cuz of my materia setups (I use almost everything at once and I have to use revive and some sort of healing on each character on hard mode)
@@BltzZ yea I'm becoming less reliant on blocking with Cloud cuz once u know the enemy and what can be countered with punisher mode or counterstance, u act accordingly

That fury ring combined in conjunction with enemy steal and deadly dodge with ho absorption’s sounds like I can get some big health back 🧐
Big big health back! Barrets health rarely moves especially when using the aura and HP absorb on multiple mobs!
I know it's been almost a year but you can almost skip the recharge animation for his overcharge by press triangle (or whatever button you assigned on PC) after using an ability, it's not only at the end of his basi attack;
Overcharge > ability, fast reload > basic attack, fast reload and boom you have overcharge again with some extra ATB as well.
Barret has been by go to whenever I get the chance to use him. His tankiness + decent ATB gain makes him a favourite pray spammer on my team for no MP heals and depending on his partner for the 2 character battle sim/colluseum challenges he fits perfectly. Cloud + Barret is better for dealing with mobs of enemies because of Clouds massive sword swings + triple slash while Tifa + Barret is better for single target damage against particularly buff bosses. Tifa unleashing all of her boosted triangle moves to get the percentage up and Barret emptying a maximum fury on the staggered enemy dishes out absurd levels of damage. Barret is also a hell of a lot more useful for fighting airborne enemies. Aerith can nuke enemies with her wards and max investment in magic for longer battles but Barret requires a lot less setup to start being a threat.
Barret is most definitely an instant threat soon as matches start thanks to his triangle being fully charged at the start. Overall every character is good and that's what I love about this game there is no right or wrong way to play it. It's fully customizable
Combat is awesome and the story is fantastic even with the new content. Loving the soundtrack especially

in this game, the area where It can improve is in blocking, I wish you could block in mid attack . I find myself always in the mid of clouds 4 swing punisher mode attack when I get smacked by an enemy. Kind of annoying , and it doesn’t really give you a chance for correcting it, that’s about my only complaint. 10/10 for sure ,
Same it take awhile to get Counter stance finally but that's what I do mid combos! With cloud you can immediately cancel mid combo into counter stance. With Tifa you can parry away immediately if you have the materia equipped. And melee Barret can insta block and reduce damage mid combo.

Barrett's is the straight up dad. "I got you, do your thing, I'm here no matter what!" Also a HUGE "leave those kids alone!!" style both in play style and character.
He's my favorite character in this game they did him well
I actually really like Barret's parry with his melee build. It looks terrible at first because of how slow it is, but it's a great way to cancel your attack animation and the dash he does blocks attacks for a long duration unlike Cloud and Tifa's, making the timing less strict and working better against multi-hit moves. But most importantly, parrying completely negates the pushback when you block something no matter how strong the attack is, so you can more easily close in on your enemy and continue attacking after blocking. Aerith's is similar but she's ranged anyway so it's not that useful.

Barret can also Charge after using Abilities & Magic, he can get to Overcharge & Overrun more swiftly than most people realize. Barret's gameplay feels so much better when you realize this. You can see it play out in a video by a guy named "kuji" on youtube, just look up "Barret charge guide" you can't miss it.
I added that in via text above screen saying that he can charge after each Action and ability in this video. That's at the 1:37 mark
nice man, just lile the og 7, u can customize your character role,, the beauty of the materia system,, barret is a really good character and good dmg, the devs balanced him by making him slow, even his dodge feels like fat rolling from dark souls,,

Yup they definitely do with all 3! I wrote this in a text don't on the barrier tip on the top of the screen. Manawall then steel skin and life saver and you got yourself steel from justice league
Thanks for this. I didn't know how lifesaver worked so I never used it. Now that I have a bonafide support tank I can unload tifa with reckless abandon.

Greatest way to fight 10/10
You don't have to release square if you can charge triangle. Just hold square. When the attack animation is over, tap triangle. With square still being held, the basic attacks will start over automatically.
Sounds good I'll implement that into my playstyle as Barret!
I find Big Bertha better for Barret for his tank-healer build, since the damage he takes from Lifesaver gets converted to MP. Also Desperate Recovery boosts Prayer for the entire party when he's low on health, for even better no-MP healing.
Also, if you switch to him, it provokes all enemies anyways, so I prefer Chakra instead of the Provoke materia.
Big Bertha is definitely my favorite to use! Personally I think your way is better to keep the action and have plenty of health sustain as well as MP for when you need it!
I know this may sound to some like a cheapskate tactic, but, it really helps on hard mode. I mean, the game took your items from you, you deserve to be a little cheap XD. I play Barret as my white mage support, and, I like having both barrier and heal on him (this tactic doesn't work on bosses). So, I position them right under each other when I go into a fight, I cast barrier*magnify, then when the fight is finished, I swap barrier for healing with a simple swap command, cast a magnified cura or curaga, and then switch barrier back to the magnify slot. This allows you to reduce a lot of damage for minimal mp, and then heal back the damage you did take for minimal mp as well. Please god don't use this on normal, it makes the game trivial, but for you completionists out there, this might just help with the tougher levels.
Pro tip: Abilities that consume all ATB like Maximum Fury, Point Blank & Focus Shot are boosted when they consume more bars of ATB. So a Refocused ones that consume 3 bars of ATB deals more damage. He's one of my Refocus mainstays besides Tifa & Aerith because of this.

I want to ask though, I'm setting up my Barret as a shooter type like he normally is. I want him to be a stagger beast and a tank and I think you're first build's accessories and equipment can work as well. My question is what is the best thing to do when an opponent is staggered with Barret? Like for Cloud it's either Braver or Infinity's End, but Barret has three moves he can use which are Point Blank, Smackdown, and Uppercut. Which is the best one to use in your opinion?
IMO I think max fury and smackdown are the best options for Barret when the enemy is staggered. So activate max fury and switch to cloud and Tifa then expend their atb bars right there! Infinity end is really good but 2 bravers actually end up doing overall more damage for cloud! I included that in a tips guide after I already uploaded the cloud advanced guide haha

(No Aerith/Aeris as of yet, but she's a Red mage for me, equal boom and Heal).
That being said how are folk doing builds at low level/normal mode, which Materia can be safely left out when you only have 6-7 slots to play with?

Algid Aura with a level 50 party on NG+ easy mode is actually hilarious.
I threw pray on barret to make him a heal bot, with haste/steadfast block he literally always has 2 bars
Barret and Pray has some of the best utilities especially if you do melee barret!
I felt like I was missing out on a weapon when I beat the game. I never got the EKG Cannon.

I believe so! I think remake 2 will end after the northern Crater segement and remake 3 or 4 will be the final game! Enough time to get all characters and get acclimated with them all

I think I want barret to be my support that I rarely use and I wanna use cloud and tifa more for my hardmode. What builds do you recommend for primarily using cloud. I watch the advance guide for cloud but cant decide. Hahaha
With cloud I'm currently thinking that iron blade might be the best overall for hard mode with it's Regen capabilities and magical prowess. But definitely Chakra, elemental, HP Up, Steadfast, First Strike, Healing, Enemy Skill(Algid Auda) + HP Absorb I think is a legit perfect combo for cloud!

With tifa as a secondary how would you build her. Similar to of you were maining her?
I got you! With tifa it's similar to what I had in the video but to be on the safe side id do Elemental + Whichever, Deadly dodge, chakra, atb assist, ATB stagger, parry, first strike, HP up. Although I do love the enemy skill with HP absorb for tifa too but have that on either her or cloud mainly the one you control the most!
Skill master requires you to use 3 UNIQUE abilities which is tough as tifa because I find myself often repeating stuff like unbridled strength and focused strike..but skill master on Barret might be really good. Because Barret usually starts off matches with steel skin, them life saver them maybe barrier or something else

It's legit something I considered adding to this video but I decided against it due to it resisting on most enemies in terms of stop. But haste hooohoooo it's a plus man, definitely boosts your ability usage rate and for characters like tifa it's a great combo to pair with! I think if you can make due with healing from chakra and or prayer then go for it!
Im here after ff7 remake became free on ps4, and i have to say the fact that every character is amazing and can do almost everything you can possibly imagine is absurd

I just saw this and wanted to ask, l am currently keeping Barret as an aggressive tank at range with Lifesaver, Steelskin and Manawall. Since we only have one Magnify materia, l keep that on Tifa with Haste to get everyone going very early on boss fights. Is it better to move that Magnify to Barret´s Barrier materia, or is it enough to have him alone with Manawall for Lifesaver to be as effective as possible?
l mostly ask because l usually don´t look at my characters´ HP since l am too aggressive with Tifa and Cloud, and Barret himself doesn´t take too much damage like to use Chakra or Prayer, but if l can optimize him even further, l won´t let that opportunity pass. More efficient tanking means more unga bunga shenanigans from Cloud and Tifa in Hard Mode.
Yup most definitely I use magnify with barrier set to Barret for hard mode playthroughs! I have this full team build video I'm finishing up for you guys today that includes this!
Does anyone hast any Tips about when to use Point Blank? I currently just use Maximum Fury for damage.
Point blank use it to end combos and also when enemies are about to hit you. Barret has slight invincibility on point blank. It's not the best of moves tho so I don't find myself using it often
I use it when I have a quick enemy cornered. Then when the slippery dude gets away, that explosion usually stuns them allowing my close range characters to follow up. I also use it on staggered enemies. If you are using his melee build, it is perfect for an in your face assault!

Just picked up the game recently and I've been wondering this for a while: Can you get enough Weapon Skill Points to max everything out or do you need to make choices?
You can max out everything once you collect all the manuscripts for each character! That's playing all of normal mode then chapter jumping through hard mode if you wanna max everything..then you can do new game plus on hard with full stats. It's a chore and a grind but definitely worth it

Shoot i wish! It's the same one but each video is showcasing the best possible build for that character. Focusing on them being the main party leader.
