You're the only person on RUclips I've seen play each character to their proper potential, and it's so refreshing. So many players don't ever even touch Cloud's punisher mode, or have no idea half of these techniques even exist for the characters. Does the game not have a combat tutorial in the start or something?
Hey man I appreciate you saying that haha it means allot. The combat tutorial has text tips but many people skip over it unfortunately haha. I love combat and fighting games in general so I always want to push it to the limit in terms of using a character to their max capabilities.
Which is why I make these types of videos to help beginners or those having trouble with the game to get into it. These moves are super important and if you ignore it won't necessarily mean you're playing the game wrong. But you are missing out on the potential of each character and ultimately having less fun with it. But to each his own. I just love the combat system so much in this game

BltzZ I didn't know about cloud's punisher mode parry ability which was a game changer for me. This brought me to all your videos which explained all characters techniques in such a great way. As you see I came here to your channel after one year of release, I played the game on normal mode and now I'm on my try on hard. I thought I was doing well with this game so far, switching regularly to keep ATB high etc but I have realised after watching these that I'm not always using their abilities in the proper or most effective way. These videos will help take the battles up a level. Subbed :)

Another great guide! Personally speaking, Barret is my second favorite character to play as in the game. He not only can rack up a lot of ATB but his long rang gameplay makes it easier to attack enemies while anticipating when they are going to attack. Plus, once the enemies decided to focus on him, who’s probably far away, they will usually approach him and draw their attention away from the character you wish to switch it, making it easier to recover or attack them in their blind spot. Helps that he has loads of HP as well.
He also can interrupt and stagger very easily imo and it just feels good melting enemies down with him! I love that he can somewhat move around while shooting to maximize distance and dodging

They did an amazing job on the combat and the ability to switch between characters and take the reins .
Super amazing job! After playing with a full team it becomes super apparent you have to constantly keep switching and spend those ATBs nonstop and it becomes fucking fun as hell

I have an advanced guide for almost all the characters now Barret is out now! We talk about all the weapons abilities and materia combinations too
also some tips for barret
after using Focused Shot, you can press triangle too if it's still charging for a quick charge
it also functions the same way as the hold square and press triangle after his finishing shot for a quick charge ( the one at 1:23)
but this time it's from his ability focused shot instead of basic attacks
so basically Focused Shot -> Triangle (charge) -> hold square (basic attacks)
idk if this also applies for his other abilities other than focused shot though
Yup! Every opportunity Barret gets, cancel a triangle charge in there to maximize it's downtime!

Ive actually been wondering how much Focused Shot increases the Stagger gauge between using it with 1 ATB vs 2 ATB...
If it doesn't do at least Double the damage or Stagger gauge increase at 2 ATB then I wonder if it makes more sense to just use it at 1ATB twice instead?
Barrett is by far the easiest character to use in this game for sure. I dunno if I'd call him a powerhouse tho. He is certainly great at building ATB and Pressure, but he doesn't really do much damage compared to the other characters. He's probably the weakest character as far as pure damage goes. He does make for a FANTASTIC support character tho due to his quick ATB gains.
Use his melee weapon and he may hits harder than Tifa
He is a great healer too with big bertha lifesaver pray and chakara.
Yup he reminds me of maximillians "New Threat FF7" play thru. Barret was so clutch in that and a beefy Tank/Healer. I have auto cure on him personally haha
Just to add pair him with enemy skill use the ghost life drain skill and stagga matirea watch how tanky he becomes and builds limit brake like crazy sorry for poor spelling

It is everything I wanted but this whipers concept has me worried. It represents the original fans and this game represents a new concept for the original. So I hope they aren't changing the idea for an more linear part two and three than the open adventure the original was.
I've read that the devs are going to have a traditional open world like we previously had in the original. They just wanted to flesh the midgar story out and the combat system etc as well as side characters. Then release multiple parts to take our money haha. But I definitely believe it won't be as linear in the second and third parts
Hey just to let you know about clipping the charging animation with triangle after finishing the square full attack animation: it also works right after using one of his atb attack 👌

Steelskin is great to use before you plan to use a spell or other move that could cancel the move, spell or healing ability/spell. This will ensure he gets the move/spell off without it being interrupted or cancelled by a foe
Steelskin helps Barret also get out some clutch heals on your team mates without worrying about him getting smacked and losing an ATB bar in the process as often.
Very true! Barret is a great option to give cura or Curaga early on to save everyone with steel skin on as well!
Magnify/Chakra Barret is actually my best healer due to how fast he charges ATB.
@@Verbose_Mode in the original game I used to run Barret as tank with cover and he was my healer as well haha. Nice to see some things are still the same

Ok, so, I've finished the game once and already a few days ago I've started playing it again with hard mode and just now I discover that Barrett has 2 versions of the focused shot. Man, the combat system in this game has so much stuff to learn, I love it
Yup! It's easy to pick up and play but if you take the time mastering and understanding what each moves do etc you can see the amount of work and effort they put into this game! @@BltzZ I've already checked the guides for all the other characters actually, vert useful, all of them. By the way, I'm not completely sure about this, but I think you can cancel the recovery of focused shot into a recharge. Again, not completely sure about it, you may wanna test it by yourself, but if it is true, you might wanna make it known to everyone in the advanced guide. I'm looking forward to it
Yup! Another viewer mentioned that as well he said he decided to try it out after seeing this video and saw it works that way too. Barret can seriously maximize that charge time this way
I strongly recommend to use Barret during Sephiroth's last boss battle as his steelskin, focused shot & point blank make him to be greater MVP character so u needn't consumes too much MP for magic spell. His Catastrophe limit break also may become the last key skill to the endgame of Sephiroth
Barret uses the quick charge animation anytime he consumes atb, with a few exceptions like casting cure or using items. Use steelskin push triangle. Use focus shot push triange.

side not after finishing animation on focused shot and maxium fury HE CAN DO THE TRIANGLE JUST CHARGE AS WELL!!!! repeat press triangle like you are reloading after animation and he will hastly recharge the overcharge
Yes! Exactly he can charge after ever move essentially. Doing this is the best way to maximize efficiency with Barret. Thanks for elaborating more on that as well!

Haha, they need to hire you as a trainer in part 2 who explains the player all of te core gameplay mechanics for each character if they choose to do so. Would be amazing AND it would lead to more people actually using the combat mechanics for each character to their fullest.

Idk if you've seen it yet but I did advanced guides for almost all the characters. The Barret Advanced guide has a melee build that's insane!
I think the most important things you’ve missed are:
Try to use Barret’s overcharge ONLY when your atb gauge is at 1ATB or lower, ideally a bit lower because his overcharge fills a little over 1 ATB bar.
Try to only use Focussed Shot when you have 1 ATB bar, consuming both bars to do focussed shot does do a bigger stagger/damage version but 2 small ones or another ability and a small one will always trump the 2 ATB Focussed Shot.
As Barret’s style is heavily on managing the emptying of ATB quite a lot, the best materia to pair his with are 2 ATB consuming materia such as for example Prayer materia

So for his Steel Pincers, what the heck is "Top up energy reserve" for his Proficiency Bonus?
TBH i have no idea lol i got it by using his ability over and over again in battle and just swinging at everything lol sorry
So I figured it out! You have to get his overcharge almost to full then use the ability to hit the enemy this maxing out his triangle charge!
I like how it shows a little red indicator when Barret's Lifesaver ability is active, but I don't understand why we don't have something similar when Steelskin is active.
It would be nice, the only thing to know if its on is to watch barrets body as he has sparkles going around him. But this is difficult since the entire game has so many particles already its hard to see in fights lol

He's only a powerhouse in the earlier parts of the game, but I really enjoy having him in my team.
Add two luck ups to him and elemental if you want and he just shreds everything especially with max fury and over charge. His advanced guide is coming soon as well as the other characters

Tifa: Glass Cannon

Is there a way that I can only focus on using one character, and have the rest heal or dish out punishment to enemies?
Yes! In the battle settings tab you can set whichever character you want as the leader. This will make every battle start off with that character. There is also auto cure materia which can take care of healing depending on what character you place that on. They really pulled out all the stops on this game and I'm absolutely loving it. How are you liking it so far?
Blitz, I AM LOVING IT! I played it over 20 years and to see what they did to this game is amazing. I restarted the game over today because I didn’t get the combat. Also, I found some armor but I can’t equip it yet. I guess my level needs to be higher, but it doesn’t tell me why I can’t equip it.
Which armor is it the iron bangle or the vest? Yeah same here man I've been playing the original almost every year since I was 7 and I'm 27 now haha
One is definitely the Iron Bangle. There’s no info on what level you have to be. Also, I was in Sector 7. Trying to get around is a pain. I have to constantly pull up the map. Am I doing something wrong? Dag, I 27 when the game first came out. Now I’m 50. Lol!
We both definitely got good taste in games haha. So you can cycle through the permanent on screen mini map. Press L2 to go through the different options then leave the one you want that should help. I think you have to be level 10 to wear the iron bangle if im not mistaken.

Melee Barrett is so savage. If he is the only ranged character you have access to it can make certain enemies a pain, but extremely satisfying otherwise.
I've been hearing amazing things about Barret for healing and support over aerith. I can't wait to get him back in the party. In original ff7 he was my main tank and healer

You do not need a guide to master FF7 reboot.
The game already godly easy even on hard mode.
Just max Pray and HP & MP materia.
Guides aren't necessary yes but there are many that provide insight to things others may not know of. Check my recent stagger pressure video for a interesting effect from the stop materia
