Well, Galactica 1980 did two things right, this Heavy Raider and the final episode with Starbuck doing a riff on “Enemy Mine“ (though bringing it in a more supernatural direction, which was an interesting choice).

How did the show of continued Starbuck would have returned in the form of one of the seraphs. The airship of lights aliens. He was going to function as a recurring character and an intermediary or a liaison between the Galactica and the seraphs.
The part was actually intended for Apollo, the script was written for him, and it ties into an early line of dialogue from Lieutenant Troy, when he says he wants to find out what happened to his father. Also, wanna Dona gives his big goodbye Starbucks beach and is all choked up and everything, it’s pretty obvious that was written for Apollo. Leaving your son behind in order to save the fleet is huge. Leaving your sons. Best friend behind is I’m sure pretty emotional, but nowhere near the delivery, Lorne Greene gave it.
But Richard hatch didn’t want to do it so: Starbuck .

Enemy Mine! Very underrated movie! Galactica 1980 could have good as a time travel show had Universal given it more time.

@@battlestarcollectica7106 well, the original concept is actually pretty similar to quantum Leap. There is some speculation that quantum leap was actually built around some leftover concepts from the original pitch for Galactica 1980. Oh, and, of course, early on the show was only intended to be sat five years after the conclusion of the original series, I would have starred, Starbuck and Apollo. The Xavier character was originally supposed to be Baltar believe it or not.
In any event, it was not universal of that screwed around with the show, it was ABC. The full story is a little too detailed to go into here, but the bottom line is ABC wanted the show to fail. The only reason it had been green live in the first place was because they wanted it to fail. They have taken a lot of bad publicity from canceling the original Galactica, and there was even a suicide as a result of that. Even a year later, ABC had not recovered from the bad price so they decided to make a disastrous show that no one in their right mind would ever watch, then cancel it, and say, “well, we tried, but clearly no one was interested.“
So the major shift between the time travel adventure in the pilot movie to childcare in space in the subsequent episodes, was dictated by the net work, not the studio

I find it funny people not thinking there wasn't very many ships in Galactica. I had to look up some reference but I got to 25 ships. That's better than the original Star Wars lineup. But who cares, back in the day we were happy to get anything sci-fi. Even if there was just one ship in a show, that could make your month.

I saw Galactica 80 when it first aired but it never occurred to me until years after the reimagined series that it was the first time we saw a human-like Cylon. At the time when I was a kid the idea didn't register much with me but apparently the writers of the reimagined series must have drawn some inspiration from it, somehow.

Highlights of Galctica 1980. Favorite episodes the final one about the return of Starbuck.. that is one my all time favorites, I have fond memories watching that quite a times as a kid. The Halloween episode with Wolfman Jack was a really fun one. Possibly that episode maybe the 1st one I think... was the episode that had some scenes of the Cylons fighters in an aerial attack on Earth. The flying motorcycles was a decent special effect for the time. Last but least I could not stand that kid who took control of the colonial fleet..... Do you recall another good episode from Galactica 1980 worth watching?

I thought it was just five crew? Three traditional clothes on the sidelines and two humanoid ones.
Anyway, I could be miss remembering it, but I think we see the outline of this one. Apollo is flipping through the war book in the very first episode of the original show. The war book contains very early designs for some of the ships in the show, including a cylon base ship that I only had one saucer, and I want to say this was in there too. I might be a miss remembering that but I feel like it was there.
