    The good thing is that BSG had an ending rather than being cancelled which would have been heartbreaking.

      Thank you for mentioning that because there has been so many good scifi shows thru the years that i loved only to get cancelled. Yes - Awesome that they completed this one. If only they would not cancel ever again. . . .

    • @mikereger1186
      @mikereger1186 5 лет назад +63

      The ending they chose for the story was bitter, but very, very classical science fiction. I think that the likes of Asimov or Frank Herbert would have approved.

    • @krashd
      @krashd 5 лет назад +10

      Well they were both cancelled I imagine it's just that these days it's proper to cancel a show in the first half of a new season so that the writers can scrape together some sort of ending, hence why so many finales often seem rushed by trying to tie up 90 loose ends in 8 episodes.

    • @timytimeerased
      @timytimeerased 5 лет назад +34

      @@krashd the reason so many finales are bad is not (only) about shows being cancelled, it's about head writers not knowing where it's gonna end from the get go. Think about LOST : it wasn't "cancelled", it lasted for many years, and the ending is a pile of nonsense, and non-resolutions.

    • @AndreaP76
      @AndreaP76 5 лет назад +7

      @@timytimeerased Yes it is that often writers have to rush finales due to not knowing if a show will be renewed or not or they know it will be canceled (last example we have in scifi is The Expanse, we missed the bloodbath in the ring and they had to rush on the explanation of what was happening and give a decent finale in case the show was cancelled, like it was, thank God Amazon decided to go on). If I'm not mistaken, BSG should have been a 5 seasons project, but Sify decided otherwise (like too many other times with many decent/good shows cancelled over the years) so they had to rush things a little. For me the 4th season was great too, only the finale felt a bit rushed, but acceptable. LOST is completely another story, it began like a 1-2 seasons project, then the success made the producers think about a longer run, the problem was that in the end the writers KNEW they had 3 seasons before the end of the show, and instead of start wrapping things up, they continued to add bullshit EVERYONE knew they would have not explained in the end, because there was literally no time to do that in a few episodes in the last season. However, it's not always easy to create a great finale, many excellent shows never had a good one. On one hand, we, as fans, get used to so much quality that we always expect more and more and probably "overhype" what should happen, and we are never happy with how things go, and writers can't make everyone happy. On the other hand, it's not always easy to maintain the same quality when you can develop a story in a long run, which is "easier", or when you have to do it in a shorter period or have to wrap things up. In a perfect world it could be possible if you are sure that a show will not be cancelled etc, so you can plan everything following the initial project in every way, but we all know writers, like producers, actors and everyone else involved, don't have that luxury...

I loved the show and it was right there with Star Trek for me. However, I found the 2nd one to be TOO dark and depressing. In the Original I always felt good at the end of each show that they were "Fighting the good fight" but many times after watching the Reboot I would be very depressed and thinking "Frack humans we do not deserve to live at all" we are so vile and Evil.

I've rarely seen an actor able to communicate such a vast range of emotions and personalities, from terrifying anger to subtile hints of uneasiness, badass warrior to tender mother, seductress, strong leader, funny girl, impulsive rebel, serious intellectual, religious fanatic...

    I am 48 so as a kid I watched the original in 78 I loved it I was 7 years old Robots spaceships almost every episode was wrapped up in an hour. When the newer series came out in 2004 I was just stunned. They made it into one amazing series the cast changes the plot changes, they gave it so much more depth rather than your standard shoot'em up humans vs robots series. Edward James Olmos did a fantastic job as Adama and I absolutely love Lorne Greene... I watch that series over and over whenever I can, I really do not think I can watch the Reboot as soon as it comes out I will have to give it some time. Agreed, I thought it was a great ending, it ended properly, rather than leaving us hanging, some people were laid to rest, the Cylons went off to do their own thing, and the ending scene left the door firmly closed on this iteration, yet strangely open, but not in an annoying 'that ended badly' way. Of course having the Cylon robots roaming around space leaves lots of room for a new story, maybe returning to the humans home many centuries later, only for the conflict to be re-ignited. Or maybe even the Cylons, having travelled the galaxies are now enlightened, and are the 'good guys' and the humans get to play the antagonists :)

    Just finished the entire series, for the fourth time…only a scant few hours ago. Love it, love everything about it! The STORY! Wow. Just wow. The story, writing, acting, cast (ESPECIALLY the cast!), the cylons, the special effects…EVERYTHING was so well done. It’s an American cultural icon, in the same vein as the Ridley Scott Alien 1979 sci fi movie classic. I could write and journal sooo much, pages and pages, about this series, but after hearing of the podcast, I think I’ll wait until then to put pen to paper.
    So nice to see Tricia Helfer! So amazing! Just as with Sigourney Weaver, it would be impossible to disassociate Ms. Helm from BattleStar - she’s so integral, so important, to the storyline. She is so brilliant - Ms. Helm was able to act so many separate characters, each one so differentiated and unique! Her acting was so good!
    The same goes for so many of the actors as well. I loved the characters, to the point they felt like friends and family throughout the 70+ episodes, for hours and for days. You must be very proud of yourself and for what you’ve accomplished. Well done.

    For me, the characterization and writing was so strong, that I saw all the characters as people first and eye candy second. The fact that Tricia's characters were serious eye candy was almost a surreal element to the BSG universe, especially when she was playing a waking dream.
    Tricia's intelligent, frank and open heated comments, reinforce the fact that being photogenic is just one of many essential qualities necessary to work on a high production value TV series.

    The re-imagined series is simply my favorite series of all time. I have continued to watch the entire series several times over the years, and I will do so long into the future. Every scene, emotion, character portrayal has a deeper magic and unspoken beauty about it. I mean even from the first episode, 33 which simply takes you into the fray of their world. You can tell as Tricia explains, everyone was in it together like a family, and it shows. The show is something special, and it's amazing.

    There's no way you can top this last BSG reboot. It's a masterpiece. And while I was sad when there were no more episodes and the story was over, it should be left as it is. You can only mess it up from here. I never even knew it was on the air at the time, but I wasn't watching any TV at that part of my life either. I didn't learn about its existence until 2012, and then I binge-watched it day after day until I had gotten through the whole series in about a month. I came back a full 10 years later and watched it all over again in 2022, and it still held up as good as ever. The effects, the writing, the acting, and all the accurate small details and dialogue that were military related that I appreciate as someone who is prior military. I can't even believe that I first watched it 12 years ago, and that I'm still ruminating on it. It certainly feels like it's still alive to me. If they try to reboot this as a movie with a different cast but retelling the story from the top, I just don't see the current cult fan base liking that very much. I'm not a fan of that idea at all.

    The on again off again of the presidents cancer?
    Her story, her growth.
    Apollo's court scene?
    Apollo and Adamas' relationship?
    The tragedy of Starbuck?
    Caines' cruelty, descent into madness.
    The growth of the Cylon themselves?
    THERE IS JUST SO F**KING MUCH!
    And all of it great....
    Gaeda, in the beginning, then in the end.
    The mutiny, the cylon mutiny, that other mutiny.
    Helo,....always right, like the North star.
    The tribulations of the Chief.
    Colonal Tye's incredible speech when he found out the truth.

      I don't think there is such a thing as 'too soon'. Look at recasting of characters and reboots/reimaginings with other franchises or stories. I don't think time plays any role in the acceptance or love for a new version. I think it's always about the quality people feel towards the new version. Tricia's Battlestar Galactica was accepted, not simply down to it being made a fair time after the original, but that it was done so well. The writing, the actors, the effects, the style, the direction, etc, all worked because they were all to a very high standard (to fans of the show). Imagine it being made by whoever's responsible for a TV show you despise, one that you feel is poor in every department. That Battlestar Galactica would have failed dismally.
      I've not seen the recent Disney live-action remakes (having never seen the original animated versions either) but I'm under the impression the issue with them, their failing, their inability to garner the love and adoration fans of the originals had is down to them simply not being as good as the originals and at worst failing in some areas. The distance in time between original and remake played no part. Equally as many franchise have demonstrated, you can reboot and recast and the new version can prove to be more popular than the original, or equally as popular. Look at the successes and failures of Superman and Spider-man. It wasn't the time-frame between reboots that decided the general opinion of each reboot. Over the space of four Spider-man movies there were three different actors playing him. Over the space of three different Superman movies there were three different actors playing him. Not unlike how James Bond movies have played out.
      I think it's always about the overall 'quality' viewers have towards the production, writing, directing and acting.

    BSG's ending was coming from the beginning. Six literally SAYS she's an Angel of God in the first fucking season. People that hated the ending of BSG weren't really watching it.

      Look at they lyrics of All Along The Watchtower, the script was written decades earlier by Jimi. No wonder the song was used in the final moments of the last episode.

      @@ericscottstevens All Along The Watchtower was written by Bob Dylan. The excellent Jimi Hendrix version was actually a cover.

      Aside from Edward James Olomos and Ricia Helpher , the show was a stinking hot mess. Only overtaken by Star Trek Discovery.

      @@chrisstarring2991 no no. Please. All of your taste is in your mouth. I never watch Star Trek Discovery so I don't have anything to gauge it by, but up until that point, Star Trek had absolutely nothing on BFG. BFG was Superior in all aspects. Storytelling, acting, twists and turns, surprise endings excetera better than anything I've ever watched on Star Trek before and I had been a trekker up until that point. A total trek freak but, I've hung up my phaser and badge. Give me exploding rounds and a steel plated deck any day.
