  • Brought Range Rover P38 back to life from a BECM that was in alarm mode
My P38 got into alarm mode after the drivers door latch/actuator went bad and when I unlocked the door all the other doors did not unlock. This means the electric signal did not reach the BECM and the computer thought a thief was trying to start the car. The BECM computer put the in "Engine Disabled" mode. Because I had no Key FOB I could not reset the computer.
I sent the computer to BECMdoctor and Scotty changed the mode from alarm to normal.
I installed a new door latch/actuator before I installed the BECM computer and now the Range Rover works normal.
An additional benefit of sending the BECM to the BECMdoctor is that he enabled the EKA function. This enables someone with no Key FOB to reset the computer to normal mode if it goes into alarm mode. This is done by using a key in the drivers door handle and inputing the code with a series of left to right turns. This feature was not enabled for Range Rovers sold in the USA.
Here are the steps I used to do the repair.
    Unhook battery negative lead
    Remove seat
    Remove BECM
    Remove Inside door panel
    Remove outside door lock
    Remove door latch/actuator
    Install new door latch/Actuator
    Reinstall outside door lock
    Reinstall inside door panel
    Reinstall BECM
    Reinstall Seat
Hook up negative lead to battery
    Start Rover and enjoy
Yes this video is not very good. And it did not shoot a lot of footage. But hopefully someone may be helped by my experience and what I had to learn to get my Rover back on the road.
    Update February 25, 2019:
BeCM doctor is no longer in business. If this happens to your P38 you will need to find another source to unlock your BeCM.
    My recommendation would be
    p38webshop.co.u...

    This happened to me today!
I knew my BECM was going bad because my back windows won’t roll up and down either and my Land Rover guy said that he had figured this was the cause. I ordered one and am awaiting. It took me a while to get my key to unlock all doors so I could start and get home

hi there, did you have any lock unlock issues before it happened. Mine is only locking no matter what I do. Even unlocking the door with the key the car still locks so when i open the door alarm starts and cant start the engine

I should have said "remove the 3 size 25 Torx screws that are on the side of the door that hold the door latch in place

      C. J. Last resort may be to find a BECM, engine computer and instrument cluster on eBay.....not really hard to replace any of them, just make sure you get one from same engine type and before 1999.....EKA code does not work in USA models....seems the BECM Doctors website is not up any more since I made this video. His email is roverscotty@gmail.com
      Good luck

Range Rover P38 thank you I'll try to get in touch with the guy I'm going to try and get a new door actuator since someone said the microswitches in the door actuator goes bad and hook up a scanner if not then I'll try your method...

      C. J. When using the keys to unlock the drivers door, do the other doors unlock or just the drivers side open, if so the actuator is most likely bad and that may also be the resin the key fob wont put the BECM back to normal since the actuator is not sending the signal to the BECM

I'm going to change the door actuator and hopefully that should solve the problem if not I came across a company Classic Rides North Wales here in the UK that takes the BeCM, Ecu and key fob and I guess clear off the engine immobilizer they service the boxes and sync everything back to operational comes with a 12 month warranty...if all else fails
