The Land Rover D2 finally gets a winch for the steel front bumper. I chose the X-Bull 12,000 winch. Mostly chosen because of price. Works well. The solenoid/control box is mounted under the bumper so I did not have to cut the grill too much. The wires from the solenoid to the winch are short. I don't know if this is normal for all winches but there is no way the solenoid could be located in the...

    🤣 love your videos mate. Snorkel is good in Australia, lots of dust, easy to put a sock on it and have it pointing backwards. So engine isn’t just instantly filled with dust. RTT and rack, never owned but - damn - I want on my lr3! Just received same rack as you, which is why I found your videos! Cheers 🍻 🙏

    FWIW, you can make use of the awkward bolt-hole at the back to simplify the job slightly. Test-fit the rock-slider to ensure it's all going to work. Put an 8mm rivnut into that rear hole immediately, raise the slider back up again, screw a bolt into the rivnut hand-tight, lift the front into place with a jack, make sure everything's aligned properly (check the doors can open and the shut-lines are acceptable), put a wooden dowel in one of the front holes to ensure the slider can't move, tighten the bolt into the rivnut... and then you can climb underneath and drill all the required pilot-holes with the slider in place. After that, you can loosen the bolt slightly, allow the slider to hang down at the front, finish drilling all your holes and then lift the front back up again.

    Just as an fyi, I know it's been three years, but seems like you installed the side with the sensor port wrong. Should be facing downward. That's why you do not have room and it looks like it's bulging upward.

    Shouldn’t these be bolted to the chassis and not the body?

    • @SiCrewe
      @SiCrewe 2 месяца назад

      Ideally, yes but the chassis rails are roughly 12" inboard which creates a couple of problems. Firstly, because the chassis rails are so far away from the sills, there'd need to be some seriously heavy-duty steelwork attaching the rock-sliders to the chassis or the brackets would allow the rock-sliders to bend upward when there was any weight on them. Secondly, and possibly more importantly, if you built rock-sliders that were strong enough to attach to the chassis rigidly, forces applied to the rock-sliders could cause the chassis to twist. Bolting the rock-sliders to the sills isn't a perfect solution so you'd probably pick a different vehicle to use as a dedicated rock-crawler but, for more general off-roading, these work fine for those times where you might, for example, drop a wheel off a step or drive over a rock big enough that you would otherwise damage the sills.

    Hi, did the car shivered/vibrate when you braked at medium and high speed ? I dont have the clunking the noise, but when I apply pressure on the rear bushing with a crowbar, it moves quit a bit whereas the front bushing does not move thus I am assuming that the vibration comes from the bushing and not the brake rotor!

      I don't know why they made it with an angle so the trim pieces above it don't fit. I have an angle grinder and with a cutting wheel I was able to make an similar angle in the trim piece so it fits. 90% of people would never notice. For the price it's still a good deal, the Britpart bumper is about $300 more. Most likely they have not changed the design. Comes from China all packed up so people are just buying them and reselling them without taking them out of the box

    Did this on mine a few years, good idea to video it to help others, Another area where mine leaked in from was the plastic roof rails, these can be unclipped, I found the area behind the rail closest to the windscreen was completely blocked with, soil, mud, vegetation it allows water to build up and mine was tracking in through roof seam sealer. The screw you point to at the beginning of the video is definitely a culprit for water ingress, the leaks on mine were dripping onto to electrical connectors and modules, which in time would have caused no end of problems, carpets have been dry for years now. Good video hope it helps folk out.
