Along with Tere, we went to Restoran Ikan Tude Bakar in Jakarta to have a meal of Manado food. Indonesian Manado food is know for being spicy and full of flavor, and after trying it for the first time, it’s exactly my kind of food. We ordered a bunch of different dishes including cakalang rabe, dry fish with chili, goropa woku, a fish curry with lots of turmeric and chilies, bubur Manado, a type of Manado style rice congee porridge, ayam rica rica, chicken in a thick spice filled and herb sauce, and tude bakar, grilled mackerel. All the dishes were incredibly delicious, but the dish I probably liked the most was the goropa woku, which included pieces of grouper in a sauce that was absolutely packed with turmeric, chilies, onions, and lemon basil. It was a truly outstanding dish. After eating at Ikan Tude Bakar, I’m a huge fan of Indonesian Manado food.
After we finished with lunch we then took a dive over to a legendary ice cream shop called Ragusa Es Italia, located very close to the National Monument. The shop was very old and classic. Outside the ice cream store there were also a few street food carts, and so along with having some ice cream, we also had a plate of asinan Betawi.
Big thank you to Tere for bringing us around Jakarta today!

I found that Thai and Indonesian foods are the best. I really love how they taste. I went to Bali and enjoy all the great foods and I miss it so much. Cravings for it and I tried to find indonesian but I found malaysian restaurant. They have almost same foods but something in Malaysian foods are different from the foods I tried in Indonesia. So I'm still craving for it.

Your sincere smiles & unpretend body languages make all food you tasted, delicious! Your pronounciation of local dishes name also close to original name, that make you close to your viewers. Salute you, bro!

After watching so many of his videos I've become very fluent in MarkFace. I know exactly how good or bad a dish is by deciphering the many subtleties of Mark's facial expressions and his body language. Lol
Thank you Mark, best Manado food in Jakarta for me are = Ikan Tude Bakar, Camu-Camu, Beautika and Baku Dapa. :))
Hey Mark (and Ying), I just have to pay you a quick compliment. My girlfriend and I, especially me, are not movie watchers and don't care for celebs and that whole fake manufactured world but we love food and taking cooking classes together and cooking together, sipping on wine while we cook and chop veges and herbs. One of our favorite things to do together lately is hooking up my laptop to my flatscreen and watching your videos while we eat, drink wine and just hangout together. Your show has actually brought us closer together and I never thought I would be lucky enough to date an American women who would rather cuddle up on my couch and watch your videos about food and cultures from different countries than watch some stupid Hollywood movie. Your show has a bigger effect than you might know. Keep it up..I love it!!!
What a man of culture, I adore your relationship. Wish you the best
I love all you vlog! Been watching all series. Thank you for all the post Mark and Ying! Will surely try out the thai food when we visited Thailand.
MAN YOUR VLOG IS GREAT, BEEN FOLLOWING WATCH YOUR VLOGS FOR 2 YEARS!

Never seen a food blogger with this level of enthusiasm. Good job Mark! And now there are 33 other provinces remaining in Indonesia for you to check out :)
I absolutely love your video's. Thank you for the upload Mark & Ying
+Siempre Milligan Thank you!
I have been to this restaurant in 2013 for more than 10 times coz it was our family’s favorite spot for dinner. I am from India and my father was working in Jakarta. I loved lovedddddddd ayam rica rica, sambal dabu dabu, chakankung, ikan bakar with naasi putti. Absolute yummmmm 😋😋 i come again and again to watch this video coz I miss this food so damn much. +Voo Lee oh yes true :) I meant to say that he makes it look even more tastier haha
Always looking forward to your new videos!
I agreed with Han Pham. His review just too good. I becoming a hungry person, but its almost 1AM. What do i eat at this hour? Mark pls keep it going at your best. I abandoned my other fav foods vlogger, but i think i dont feel guilty as yours are most inspiring, sufficient enough to put them aside off my screen. Pls come to other part of Indonesia, i dont know much of Indonesian foods, but they are truly delicious and worth a visit.
Mark you are a mouthful maestro! The way you put together each bite is genius!
I like it when you say, "that is an impressiveIy good" for the Woku dish. Glad to know you enjoyed it so much.
I am a Manadonese. Manado cuisines are just the best, especially my Mom's made. LOL. She can cook everything you have in this video, and she served two or three dishes daily, can you imagine? Manado people only enjoy meal times with tasty foods, we're accustomed to it. I remember when I lived in Jakarta for college and had to survive with warungs, missing these meals were torture. The bubur Manado is my most faved, and it's originally called Bubur Tinutuan.
Just "Tinutuan" not "Bubur Tinutuan"
Manadonese food....awesome as always not because i am a manadonese :) But it trully taste great, i make my own manadonese food too. salam baku kenal dang.
Another great video! Great filming of the food dishes!
Hi Mark, thank you for sharing happiness through what you are passionate about. You rocks ....
"After eating at Ikan Tude Bakar, I’m a huge fan of Indonesian Manado food."
Just wait till you eat the non-halal dishes, too. ;)
Like what? Why is the non halal food better?
@@lucygillman4681 There are good halal ones, and good non-halal ones. If you eat only one type (not out of religious requirement), you miss out half the fun.
That Manado food sure looked good. Thank you for doing Jakarta it's a nice change! This meal looked delicious!
Very2 feel bless.. tks for your video bro, i'm manadonese.. we r so proud with our original food...
I love the way you speak. You have clear accent & pronunciation :3

I love watching your youtubes. Enjoy eating many kinds of Indonesian foods. Every island in Indonesia or even every region has a spesific recipe
Hey Mark, I love Manado food too... The green chili is usually sour which Indonesian call "Dabu-dabu" and the brown sambal is name "Sambal Roa" because is made from Roa fish and chili... so you can smell the fish aroma in that sambal.
Absolutely Perfect.... :-) & off course..the main thing is ..all the fish dishes....Love tat most..!!!
keep it up the work ...Great Vlog as always... !!
I really like it when you add in a dessert review!!
Love your videos Mark!
+brian blas Thanks Brian
Oh wow, so early! Thank you for the video, Mark! The Minahasans (the people of Manado) are definitely famous for their seafood, but why that restaurant? No offense to Theresia, but what you had was sanitized version of Minahasan food aimed for mainly Muslim customers. The Minahasans are known in Indonesia to be omnivores as they consider snakes, forest rats, fruit bats, etc to be fit for fork. They are also huge porcine lovers, and the two dishes you had, rica-rica and woku (but especially rica-rica) are more synonymous with pork than fish. Glad to know that you find Manadonese food to your liking, though. Next time, please have it at one of the small-scale eateries, just like what you did with Lapo Ni Tondongta, and try Paniki Rica-rica (fruit bat in spicy mixture)! :)
I love your food vlogs!!
Are you live in Indonesia
*Mark my wife commented that you seem to enjoy not only the flavors of the dishes of food but, now get this not using your fingers to eat, that's her but I could see it as well, a full spoon or chop stick of whatever the more brighter your enjoyment, a super thumbs up to you and Ying!*
Oh Mark, please i couldn't stop my mouth watering every time i see your video. That's awesome...
Hey Mark, I have to say, you do an impeccable job of getting across the deliciousness of the foods you eat! Your videos have certainly inspired me to travel abroad and try new cuisines. Recently, I developed a fascination for Turkish food, as the flavours are so rich and diverse. If you ever get a chance to visit Turkey, please do so, and look out for a dish called gozleme, a stuffed baked bread, much like a tandoori paratha.
Love ur vids...I get hungry every time u eat lol...U make everything taste so good.. it's like me wanting to try different types of food myself...try some Caribbean food tho ..bet u guys gon love it
eating ice-cream : ummm its very cold, its very light and not heavy. Its like saying " why do you like you gf" umm because shes a good person. Why is she a good person, coz shes not a bad person.

Thank you for sharing the videos. After watching this video, definitely I’ll surf to cooking channel how to cook the yummy manado’s food, hope I can find all the ingredients here 🙏. By the way, I’m impressed that you can take the heat of those spicy foods 👍. You have the best job ever! Traveling and enjoy the culinary world, I am jealous 😂.

Hi Mark,
i enjoyed watching your videos.
very informative descriptions, wonderful positive attitude & you dont hesitate to try a new kind of delicacies around the city.
i would suggest you to try Bunga Rampai restaurant.
Not what we call cheap, but worth to check it out.
Cheers
Great video. Again, lots of excellent looking foods in here I've never had before yet, but I really want to try now. Especially those fish dishes, oily sambals, that congee/porridge and that chicken dish with loads of green onions and spices on top, all look super tasty.
Have you found a great ayam bakar bumbu rujak yet? I bet your travel-blogger-guide that was in this video would know! :)
i like that reaction when you eat the food. make me feel hungry 😂😂😂
Well, its official, i can say that you maybe the first foreigner food vloger who already eat all of indonesian traditional cuisine.
Always become hungry eventhough ate already... nice video
In Manado the Bubur Manado is called Tinutu'an. It tastes so much better if you mix it with cow's bone marrow soup and a little bit of yellow egg noodle
New to channel...really enjoy seeing all the different foods; l love trying/cooking new dishes. Your passion for new foods is contagious, but one question, how can you eat so much and stay so thin....
finally, you have a bite of the indonesian corn fritters! the papaya flowers commonly used in salad are male. we can distinguish between the male and female papaya trees. male papaya trees bear flowers only whereas female papaya trees bear both flowers and fruits. we have to boil the male flowers in order to remove their bitterness for several times, just like young bamboo shoots. besides that, papaya is known as "buah betik" in malaysia.
i have never seen a unique recipe called the spaghetti ice cream but it looks mouth watering. i think the ice cream restaurant owner must be an italian decent and thus lots of famous italian ice cream dishes are sold there. the chairs which you sit there are made from rattan vines.
i would like to call any indonesian viewers to explain the meaning of rica rica to both mark and i. we will be appreciated if you explain the meaning of this word.
in several languages of Minahasa, 'rica' means both 'chili' and 'spicy' but if you're talking about a dish then it would refer to a specific mixture of spices that can be paired with various meats such as pork, chicken, etc. The name of chosen protein are usually in Bahasa Indonesia (ayam, babi, etc), the lingua franca; but 'rica' would still be 'rica'
in West Sumatra , Papaya also called Buah Batiak or Kalikih
+Datuk Rajo - in east malaysia borneo we call it papayas or betik. both convey the same meaning.
Rica in Manadonesse mean cabe in indonesian and chilli in English, so if some food called "Ayam rica rica ( Chicken chilli spice), Bebek Rica Rica ( Duck Chilli Spice ) or Cakalang Rica ( Tuna Chilli Spices )" means the Food was cook in more chilli with some spices, so it would taste hot and spicy... and i love cook those food.
Sandy Kristine if u love cook those food u must know cakalang is skipjack, deho is bonito and tuna is tuna
HAHA Man with a savory tongue. You raved about the food during lunch, but barely commented 2 sentences on the ice-cream. Even then, you went out to the street to get another savory dish!
Hahaa yes he's not really into desserts, but Ying is different 😂
Thank you for tried and enjoy our foods...There's a still a lot of food that may you tried in other time...I think you should try a cook called Sambal Tumpang...that made from fermented Tempe....
hi, i really enjoying your videos.. your expression is so much fun 😆💕
R u live in Indonesia

I love ikan woku and ayam woku is really good and sambal cakalang

Next time you go back to Jakarta, you definitely must try BEAUTIKA restaurant near Moestopo University! All the waiters and waitresses are imported directly from Manado 😂😂😂 and as well as the food material 🙌🏼👌🏽😍
agree... Beautika is the best Manado Resto in Jakarta... no one can beat that.
It costs a lot tho, in fact nearly all manado restaurants are expensive.
Legend Mark! Now I want to run away to Indonesia ;)
All of that food look so fantastic. I'm glad you survived eating the 'acid sauce'.
+RibbitHopX Haha, yes!
i love eating bubur manado for breakfast ... much more healthy than any other porridge s style :-D
Manado is my hometown ❤️
I like to see the reaction you first saw you eat ... you will say wow or hmm while your eyes widen
Ayam rica-rica is most popular in indonesia the taste is really good and more delicious...
I can't hold on but watery mouth because of you, Mark.. You succeed as always making me lost as being 'hangry'......
dude the way i see it u changed ur reactions when u taste food to indulge those people that complained about it but… when ur a public figure with a whole lot of followers with whom u share ur gastronomic experiences u gotta make some compromises in order to help ur channel raise even more and be successful. ur doing an awesome job with ur channel and even tho i agree that ur facial expression when ur enjoying food can be somewhat overwhelming also people don't have the right to be rude about it and insult u for it. they don't understand that those are sometimes unconscious reactions which person can't remember to control when ur paying ur attention to 1000 different things in meanwhile making a video, showing the food, making sure its properly filmed, presenting it all, drawing other ppl attention etc. keep traveling and eating mate, ur doing great and the food looks damn delicious.
I am starving!
You eat too well to be so thin, my friend :)
I love Ragusa Ice cream! That's so good
The food looks really good :)
hi Mark, I really enjoy your videos.
I'd recommend you to try Indonesian "pancake" named Martabak!. You should visit Martabak Boss or Martabak 65A Pecenongan. There you can choose either sweet or the savory one, the sweet martabak could be topped with many different toppings (toblerone, nutella, sprinkles, peanuts, peanut butter, etc) and the savory martabak mainly consist of duck eggs, minced meat, and scallions (some even topped with melted mozzarella)
Oh Man, finally You eat that food. Thats my Fav food mark..
Awesome video as always Mark!
+Justine A Thanks Justine
