As a Hungarian girl who grew up near the Austrian border and love history I always liked the character of Sisi. I'm kinda obsessed with her: I have read and watched everything about her life and from the perspective of our history (so the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy) the story is pretty accurate. It was very fascinating to watch the series and I can't wait till season 2!
As an Austrian girl who grew up close to the Hungarian border - they made up a hella lot of the storyline for the sake of being a modern drama series 😅 also most of the cast are Germans who don’t care about accents, not Austrians, which makes it pretty cringy to listen to No offense, just saying
The show is entertaining but I'm shocked to see how inaccurate it is. I was really annoyed about how they kept trying to force a "saintly" narrative on her. I mean I sure, maybe she was more empathetic to the public but walking into a steal factory barefooted? *eye roll*
Period serie? The clothes aren’t even accurate. Elisabeth’s life was miserable. She married because she couldn’t say no, she was a kid when she married, hated Vienna, traveled to escape the prison she was in, couldn’t raise her kids. The only thing she had control over was her image and her weight. Also, I love her, but she wasn’t a good mother and wrote awful things about her daughters kids. She was complicated, probably had depression and eating disorder. But she had a kind soul ❤
Netflix, along with most of Hollywood, prefers to change the store/add elements/outright lie, etc because they think people won't watch if it's not full of BS. It's insulting that they think people only want sensationalism.
I felt that way about the movie Titanic---apparently that wasn't dramatic enough of a story they had to add two fake 'lovers' for the audience to watch
Ther was no love story. No woman would say NO to a king back then. She did not love him, pretended to be sick, so she could leave Vienna. She loved Hungaria because she was free there.
Grew up in Germany and very familiar with story. Netflix did a good job although Sissi portrayal on Netflix has her a bit bolder than the shy girl she has be stated to be.
@@muriellelenglin133 My Grandma made me watch it. Again and again and again.. 😅An inseparable part of my childhood. She was a big fan and had all of her movies - not only Sissi.

I loved the series, and will be watching it again. In my opinion it is exceptional! Would love to see a follow up series, especially now that I know it was based on real life. Thank you
I still like the Sissi series from the 50s best, but this one was quite good too, also thank you for the interesting information! I would love her beautiful dresses and hair, but I wouldn't have wanted to be in her place. And her bed, wow, her bed was gorgeous. lol but without Franz Josef. :)
Fiction, real, any which way, I loved the series. Would love to see the loose ends tied, like what happened to the emperor’s brother, the in-house spies etc
I liked that lady playing sisi in the series on Netflix. Can tell they changed some things but it’s uncanny when I’ve looked at photos of sisi how much that actress looks like her.
She was not "Duchess of Bavaria" before marrying. She was "Princess Elisabeth IN Bavaria" that's a different title, a really low one, hence the 'in Bavaria'. Also her mother on law was no princess but an archduchess. Erzherzogin. Her daughter's Sophie, Gisela and Marie Valerie were the princesses. Not her mother in law. Also, the show has nothing to do with her true story, as Elisabeth was a truly depressed bit also incredibly egoistic person. Her son didn't just die, he committed suicide and shot his willing lover Mary Vetsera. And the mystery is because the imperial court tried to cover up the incident, so that Rudolph could get a Roman Catholic burial in the Habsburg vault, as someone who committed suicide wasn't allowed. They declared him mentally ill, even though he was so much like his mother and not taken seriously by his father. The world would have been very different if he lived and became Emporer. Elisabeth? She didn't care for her son, only for herself. So the Netflix show was great, but simply fiction with bad costumes while borrowing names from real persons. Nothing more.
There’s a lot of things that do not match how things happened. Máximilian was not at all the villan that envied his brother. His only sin was to be nicer and more popular and France didn’t like that. Also never had any attraction for the empress they were friends cause they had more in common. Anyway Maximilian is portrayed so wrongly and unfairly. Sissi did not married in love at all either, and it was not known that she was that nice or daring. Most of it is fiction.
Don't worry. It's a Period drama not a documentary. If it were a documentary with accuracies it would only be 2 hours long. Please stop confusing dramas as Documentaries. Yall do that with The Crown and Versailles aswell. It's just a period drama chill.
There are lots of movies made about Sissi that show their marriage as a love story. That’s not true because she travelled extensively throughout Europe without him. She’s often away from her husband for months at a time, sometimes even for years. He loves her but I don’t think she loves him.
@@DaydreamingPsychologist Sissi started traveling extensively in 1860 to Madeira for six months. Soon after her return to Vienna Court, she left again to the Greek island of Corfu in 1861. Then from 1862 to 1863 Sissi paid several visits to European health spas. From the 1870s until her death in 1898, she was mostly absent from Austria, preferring to travel throughout Europe. Her son committed suicide in 1889.
This is by FAR the most inaccurate period drama show I have watched. Not only the story is just remotely resembling the actual story, BUT the clothing, the architecture has nothing to do with the reality. The fashion and hairstyles do not have anything to do with the time and I am offended even by the depictio of the shonbrunn castle…(saying it just because I’ve visited it more than once) . For god’s sakes at one point she was wearing PLASTIC SUNGLASSES……and also I get they make shows end with a massive cliffhanger so the people can antisipate the next season but for me it felt just not whole, as if they went tired of making it…
Theres also the orders on which Franz Josef wears which is pretty much just made up. They didn't even bother to check out the Grand Order sash which was worn by mostly every military and noble leaders of Austria, ESPECIALLY the Emperor.
Imagine you’re Austrian and all of the main cast (except for one person - which makes it feel even more odd - the brother of the emperor) sound like German news anchors. Not Austrian news anchors, but German news anchors in the most obvious way. It’s like watching The Crown with an American cast, and only princess Margaret sounds like a Brit. Sooo ya, I hope people kinda get that it’s only another washed out drama series.

The Mayerling incident with her grown son and heir to The Throne is in a movie of the same name.......The real question is is was it a lovers suicide pact or did her kill his young lover and then himself and the info hidden from the public because he was royal? Forensic experts have dug up his lover's bones and it looks as if he killed her and then himself.
