I too would have been annoyed to get only one Scotch. But if you take something positive from this, you thought you didn't like rye whiskies and found at least two that you really enjoyed! Thanks for the series!

Happy New Year! I received the Flaviar Advent Calendar as a late Christmas gift . I'm only on day 10 and I personally have really enjoyed the experience. I agree that US whiskeys seem to be favored in this box . However , the discovery of Kamet was a very pleasant surprise! I do not tend to drink bourbon as I enjoy scotch. That being said, I have really liked exploring other whiskeys. Something I would not have done without the calendar based in the price point of some of the whiskeys I see recommended . I'll update when I'm done with the calendar and let you know how my journey ends. Keep up all the good work and congratulations on your new adventure! All the best !

Did anyone else seem to notice that the descriptions didn’t match the contents of the bottles? For me the proof was off on several as were the descriptions. I’m still new to much of this and I feel I cannot trust what the app is saying.
Hi John, I did notice discrepancies in the details. I still blame this on the lack of lead time for the answer key (app/website). Proofreading is hard (for me at least) and needs time.
I'm wondering if you could tell me what #21 was. I didn't get the app. It says "Other Spirits" Product of USA. BTW...great recap.

Hey Kevin looking forward to your journey.. I too was a bit disappointed with the box and the app did not make it any more pleasant.. I actually just moved arrows to get past the whole process in order to see the sample details… which made the recommendations useless. Looking back though it was interesting to follow along.
My main complaint about the whisky selection was the lack of older expressions. The variety would have been better with a few 15 or 18 year drams in it. Cheers!
The app wasn’t great. I didn’t like the comparison feature. I didn’t like that it forced you to do the whiskeys in order (I was sick a few days and it wouldn’t let me skip days).
I think the app has some potential. But ultimately it was so cumbersome I abandoned it and just used the website.
My favorite part is doing the tasting with my partner and getting her thoughts. And then watching your videos and the Flaviar videos and get other people’s opinions too.
I’m still not done the box but I enjoyed most of what I had.
The forced steps were the biggest problem for me. I wanted to skip the A/B steps mostly. Maybe Flaviar will add some flexibility next year. Cheers and thanks for sharing!

Interesting points and comments. I agree that the app seems like a bit of a scummy move. The whisky advent calendars I've had don't come with an app but if they did I wouldn't even consider using it. No benefit for me and likely profiling / free data harvesting for the company. No thanks.
Good news is that (at least here in the UK) there seem to be more and more companies making these calendars now so there will hopefully be more choice for both of us next year. Cheers 🥃
I've tried other calendars and some were giving me too many of my regular bottles. It's a tough balancing act to fill these. I'll have to rethink this next year. Cheers!

Well, will be in Broughty Ferry during April and May… so I am considering another trip to Islay. It's been a few years and it is tempting to have so many distilleries clustered close together. ;) Cheers!
Given the privacy information, the app is requesting on iOS and do not need, they are ABSOLUTELY, profiling you.
It's a shame, but I get that Flaviar is trying to increase sales and might even think this is a positive move for customers.
Seems like schlepping that swill to Italy was a lot of work....waste of your great efforts.,
I enjoyed many of the bottles, and I love creating these daily videos every year. It was worth it. 😉
