A lot of people don't seem to realize the negative impact this can have (forever), when it comes to getting a job, renting/purchasing a home, etc. People are screened heavily now (including credit checks and any reference to your name posted on the internet) when just applying for a job or renting an apartment. If you have anything negative posted online, they might just delete your application and not even tell you why.

One of the worst nightmares is to be falsely accused of something and have people believe it. The apologies never get as much publicity as the accusations so therefore large awards in a lawsuit are justified. It's the same with "no knock warrants" in which police break into the wrong house.
