Democrats have a standard for decor, professionalism, and manor. Had he been running as a Republican, I've no doubt he would have been elected President.
I don’t think he would’ve had a chance anyways, Bush was able to win the popular vote and the electoral college by exploiting peoples’ fears, post-9/11
THIS! I remember it when it happened. The MSM freaked out and flushed him down and I was asking myself why was his screaming a big deal lol. MSM was more powerful back then because people trusted it. Trump, however, couldn't be flushed despite multiple attempts.
Bustersword88 it's actually interesting - the kind of media scrutiny that killed Howard Dean actually made Trump far stronger. In their attempts to hit Trump's credibility, they accidentally gave him millions of dollars worth of advertising. It's forgotten that there was actually quite a lot of bipartisan catharsis in watching Trump smack around the establishment candidates back in the primaries. I
Be N S O N yeah. Turned out so well, huh? He sure is doing a great job kicking around those establishment chronies... As they literally are now in power and dividing up our country's public land and structure for themselves.

"We're going to South Carolina! And Oklahoma! And Arizona! And North Dakota! And New Mexixo!..." "Ok dude, calm down now" "...AND CALIFORNIA! AND TEXAS!" "Oh"
The worst part is that they deemed him "Un-presidential" because of that scream. Yet it is one of those examples that show what passion really is. But people seem to be so narrow minded and misguided to even think.
Xian that because you're a brainwashed moron. You've never been so excited about something as to let out some kind of cheer? Lol go back to letting the media think for you.
I doubt very much the scream was what "ended" his run. He only came third in the caucuses to begin with - he just wasn't that popular of a candidate. Of course it makes a good story to blame it on the scream but that's baloney, he's actually exciting to watch or they wouldn't have him featured at the DNC.
It was a slightly different time back then, media talking heads were taken way more seriously when they talked about "presidential behaviour" and limited the options to just soulless automatons that performed according to a script and never acted out of line. ..not that anyone learned from it and applied to current elections.
Howard Dean has contended that it was not the 'Dean scream' that caused him to lose, but rather more his campaign was disorganized that he lossed to John Kerry in 2004. On top of the momentum Kerry had after defeating Dean in Iowa. Some in the media have also admitted they blew the scream out of proportion, which they did.
No one would elected this fool for anything,, The scream had nothing to do with it.. If he was black like Obola,, he would have been elected solely because of his race... Libturds are such idiots

In context Dean had expected to do better in Iowa than he did. And there was a runup of weird Dean comments like what he'd said to the LGBTs, "Clinton was acclaimed as the first black president - I'll be the first GAY president!". So odd that the media tried this with Trump a thousands times harder and with much more damning stuff and it didn't affect him negatively in the slightest. But this guy one silly scream and it was over. Makes no sense.
this was the only time Howard showed emotion, he was all business up til this point, very popular, with the same momentum as Bernie Sanders. This was one of the most manufactured events (and shameful) in American media history (and that's saying something). If a person is attempting to be heard over a jet engine and you cut the sound of the engine so the listener only hears the person yelling like a maniac, that's exactly what they did. They needed something to destroy Dean's campaign. If this happened today, corporate media would have been busted after the minute or so it took someone upload the complete video from their phone. Instead, we're 20 years down the road and the truth still is unknown to most. The presence of context is essential to understanding anything.
The media attending weren’t aware of the scream becoming a meme until the next day because there was nothing remarkable to report. Something about an omnidirectional microphone that doesn’t pick up crowd noises (?). It is a damn shame because Howard Dean is a good man.
@@datsnuffydude5460 They knew. The media smeared him because he was a lot more progressive than a lot of the Democratic Party. Remember this was all over the news. You’re right, it wasn’t that bad, but the media made him look crazy.
Absolutely mind blowing that something like this actually sank his campaign. To me, his scream showed me that he had genuine enthusiasm for his campaign. In a political landscape where putting on an act whenever you're in public is the norm, of course someone showcasing their authenticity was a threat to other people in power! I don't know his political positions, but at the very least I can tell that his heart was in his presidential campaign... which is more than I could say for most people. Bernie Sanders comes to mind. Like him or not, it is really REALLY hard to argue that the guy is not authentic and honest.
This didn’t sink his campaign. This came after he finished 3rd in the Iowa primary (watch the beginning of the video) which was a big disappointment to his campaign. The reality is that his support was mostly among young adults and that wasn’t enough. The idea that the scream killed his campaign is just a rationalization.
[?] Question Block yeah, it's a politically stupid country. That year was my first chance to vote and he was the candidate I should've been voting for. Such a benign thing and it became a mocked moment. That's when I learned how idiotic this country is. I'm a right leaning libertarian and I see nothing at all wrong with the scream. Hell, his speech made him look like a fine candidate that I'd consider swing voting for. Certainly better than anything the Democrats have run in a long time. Then again, I thought Dukakis was an alright guy and the media ruined him after his tank foray.
And guess who went on to win the nomination? John Kerry, member of the Skull and Bone Society along with the guy he ran against, George Bush. Isn't that ironic?
I wish Howard would come to this video and see all the support he has here. I can’t even imagine the embarrassment this man had to go through just from being genuinely excited. If you ever see this Howard, we salut you!

it's the leadup. his bizarre listing of states, with his voice losing coherence. this was a man who had come in #3 after pinning so much of his hopes on at least #2. He knew he was going to lose New England to Kerry (that phony) and that he couldn't run a campaign outside it. The media then, as now, was tight with the D party and the media knew that Dean was a nutball. They were just being quiet about it up to then because, hey, he might actually be the nominee. This scream couldn't be covered up, so it wasn't. It gave the media cover to attack a Democrat and to appear impartial, when they were really in the tank for ANY democrat. Even that phony Kerry. t. Nothing to do with his stances on issues or anything? Regardless of his politics, something as insignificant as saying "YEAH" or "BYAAW" if you're a Chappelle's Show fan should not ruin a presidential campaign.
I know that it's stupid but the media controls a lot more than you think and late night shows and news broadcasters constantly made fun of it so Howard Dean slowly faded away into a joke
+BJMcB92 agreed. This is the first time I've seen this clip and it doesn't seem odd at all. If THIS is why he lost popularity, that's pretty fucking shallow. The Trumps, Carsons, Bachmans, etc. of the world make this clip seem benign.

I still don't see how this could ruin his career. I'd probably blame the journalists for not having anything better to write about.

So what? Are you saying the "flamboyant" black guy is to blame for Dean getting a little dose of stupid? From where I stand (and stood at the time) looks like Dean poured a shot of stupid for himself. Whatever happened after that, he can eat.
The irony that by today's standards.
His scream would've been the most tame thing any politician could ever do on live television. Now we have people in office who act like total jackasses or just plain assholes on public television, the people don't demand for the resignation of said politician
Especially if it's trump.
The current political climate brought me back here and we definitely owe this man an apology. We need this enthusiasm now.
Me too. I came looking for this after Fox News weirdos argued that Kamala shouldn't be elected because of how she laughs. I hope she gets the *_last_* laugh!
The fact that this actually ruined his campaign is just testament to how shallow and superficial American society is.
YAHHH
OutlawStarkiller
How? Please explain.
Ike Okereke the fact that a campaign was ended by a yell that had nothing to do with policy or the candidate, and in no way showed that the candidate would be a non effective president
Ani Nair
People blamed it on the scream, but it was more than that.
OutlawStarkiller i know looooogic
superficial?
So I was 11 years old when this happened, and I never really understood why this sank Howard Dean's campaign. He gets a little excited and hypes the crowd up after a somewhat disappointing finish in the primary, lets out a "YEAH!" at the end of his speech, and that somehow makes him un-electable? Nothing to do with his stances on issues or anything? Regardless of his politics, something as insignificant as saying "YEAH" or "BYAAW" if you're a Chappelle's Show fan should not ruin a presidential campaign.
I know that it's stupid but the media controls a lot more than you think and late night shows and news broadcasters constantly made fun of it so Howard Dean slowly faded away into a joke
The truth is he was already sinking in the polls; the scream definitely didn't help...
+BJMcB92 agreed. This is the first time I've seen this clip and it doesn't seem odd at all. If THIS is why he lost popularity, that's pretty fucking shallow. The Trumps, Carsons, Bachmans, etc. of the world make this clip seem benign.
+BJMcB92 That's brain-dead America for you. To the average voter, politicians have to act like composed robots without any sense of sincerity.
+BJMcB92 i was eight going on nine then, and remember this too and I found it pretty funny. It's also pretty funny that I'm from Iowa, so here was something that went down in my home state. I also remember the 2004 election representing the first time I really understood politics on any level, being against Bush and being bummed out when he stole an election for the second time. I voted for Kerry in the Nickelodeon kid's pick mock election deal, and he actually won the kids' vote.
This guy reminds me so much of Andy Bernard from the office for whatever reason
Oh I can so just sit here and cry!
i'm dying..lol
Same, I think this inspired the andy character
David Niemynski yes
@David Niemynski. So true. Damn, you nailed it.
It wasn’t even that weird tbh
I don't know why this was a issue. He was just feeling the energy from the crowd. I admire his passion.
The corporate news stations wanted to destroy Howard Dean's chances of winning. It wasn't a real controversy it was a fake one generated by the media stations. Read between the lines.
I'll take the Dean Scream over "Pokemon Go to the polls" any day.
Facts
or the "i always got hot sauce in my bag" one
Hillary was straight up cringe
Exactly
LOL They will never live that down as far as I'm concerned
@@hamadaj8081 the hot sauce quip sends chills down my spine to this day. Painfully out of touch.
If he had only shouted "Unlimited power!!!" after that scream...
I am the senate.
LMAO
Lol
Have you ever heard of the tragedy of Howard Dean?
I thought not.....
It's not a story the politians would tell you.

It honestly wasn’t a bad speech.
It’s called jumping the shark
who's here straight from Joe Rogan/Andrew Yang?
@@matdan2 Definitely very tame lol, I was not paying attention to the news cycle at this time so this is new to me.
Not being from the US I had no idea what they were talking about... now Im even more confused... was that it?!?
Are you a psychic?
Who's here straight from Joe Rogan/Andrew Yang AND this Hiro Beats comment is the first comment you see?
Me too
That really doesn't sound that crazy anymore. Not in 2020
Big facts lol
Not crazy at all, very racial, I might say
It was never crazy to begin with even in 2004. I never understood why it is such a problem.
It wasn't bad at all... Just sounded like he got a little excited.
Anyone watching in 2024?😅 Geez
He was pretty pationate, and a fitting candidate. I despise the people who ruined his career.
+JokuRandomPoju ruined it? he didn't have a snowballs chance in Arizona of winning anyway. he did that to get attention and it didn't work such is life
Any other country: “hehe that was funny...”
USA: “your life is over...”
Pretty sure everyone was making light of it in the USA and laughing. That was the problem though, he became a joke in people's eyes.
Sounds like he's from a wrestling ring
He will get that intercontinental belt ...eeeaahhhh
@@_baller if bruce buffer ran for president he would get it
@@_baller He's after the US title lmao
@Bruce Wayne Id love to see that

Now there's a candidate that yelled "THEY'RE EATING THE PETS" at a nationally televised debate.
Interesting times we live in.
Given today's climate, I gotta say, that looks like absolutely nothing 😂. Maybe I'm a little desensitized.
not a little we are all very desensitized
We all are, lol.
redelgado99 he was ahead of his time 😂
You probably are desensitized, but this is nothing.
I agree it was a huge deal by then when politicians tried to be perfect but in today's climate the exact opposite is true. Now they say and do anything and no one cares
For those who don't know: Howard Dean said in an interview with one of the mainstream media programs in 2003 that he was not going to feed or kneel before corporations, and that didn't sit well with the establishment. So, the first opportunity they got, they destroyed Howard Dean.
***** So I saw an interview Dean did with Abby Martin, and let me tell you, I was wrong about the guy. He was admitting that the things he supports were unconstitutional.. I was speechless. I thought I found a moderate Democrat. Boy was I wrong
lmao. you people still think Dean is a viable human being, I mean candidate for anything. woohoo.
Grey Winters did you see where I said I was wrong about the guy?
Erik Munoz
Missed it sorry. Good move. but is their such a thing as a moderate democratic politician alive any longer.
Grey Winters Sure there is. And there is such a thing as a moderate Republican also. The question I think you're asking is, can moderates get elected?
I watched this on TV as it happened in 2004, from my couch in Austin, TX. If you’d ever watched Howard Dean before this, you’d have been well familiar with his habits of becoming impassioned and loud. I wasn’t even a supporter of his, and I thought it to be nothing I hadn’t heard before. Over the next few days, I was astounded that this was a big deal. More surprising at the time was the fact that he only came in third in Iowa. In October/November of 2003, he was the Dem front-runner.
📠
I remember that too. I was in FL at the time. Dean is probably the only Democrat I've ever felt bad for.
@@Maxvansteel Al Gore comes to mind, who needed a presidential candidate’s brother and the US Supreme Court to make sure he lost the state of Florida.
@@TravelinBand747 Yeah, I'm one of countless Republicans who regrets voting for Bush. Gore is a globalist wacko, but I doubt he would have turned the world upside down like Bush did. There comes a point where you have to disregard partisanship and acknowledge objective reality.
2004: this guy made a scream? cant have that as president
2016/2024: a president who's xenophobic, racist, narcissistic, habitual liar and frequent cheater on his wives? sounds like my kind of guy, got my vote!
Add in the simulated microphone bj.
Are you saying that Trump only beats women! Bahaha! Funny and true….. hmmm but are they actually women
just a friendly reminder that 2004 is to 2016 what 1988 was to 2000
holy shit. haha, that puts it into perspective
Mr. 2004, I worked with 1988. I knew 1988. 1988 was a friend of mine. Mr. 2004, you are no 1988.
So in 2028 when a candidate lights farts at rallies and wears the North Korea flag as a cape, and can still get elected POTUS, we'll long for the days of normal candidates like Trump and Hillary
By then the US will be a banana dictatorship. No more elections.
Whoa...
this is a lovely scream it's pure joy and motivation
ikr.. fuck humanity
IK!!!! i feel so bad for him
That was pure cringe nothing more
"Howard, would you like me to pick up some dairy queen?" "YEEEAAAHHH!"

This was WAAAY overblown. Can't watch this without dying inside at that Dave Chappelle skit though. BYAAAAHHH!
😂😭🤣💀💀
That Black Bush sketch is HILARIOUS!
BYAAAAAH!
Learn from this kids…This was considered unhinged in 2004. In 2024, we’re completely off the rails. 🤦🏼♂️
People exaggerate this. He came in third in Iowa… he was not the popular candidate to begin with. He pulled this and everyone who didn’t know about him were like “what a freak!”
Wait, where's the crazy scream that caused him to lose? All I saw is him getting excited!
+Noah Borthwick 0:35
Apparently if your voice cracks when you say "yeah!" your campaign is doomed.
Exactly! Whenever I heard this talked about, you would have thought that he had a crazed, murderous look in his eyes and screamed as if possessed. WTF's the big deal, he was excited and energetic, so what?
+Noah Borthwick We lived in different, more polite times then. the bar has been lowered, and lowered and lowered with Trump.
+Noah Borthwick he came in 3rd place in the DNC later that year and pretty much got shut out because of his little girly scream. It ruined him. Then Kerry vs Bush happened. And Bush won. If you're going to feel the bern like a punk bitch at least research your political party. You can feel my nuts on your face. #feelthejohnson
I...don't see what's wrong with this. I don't know much about Howard Dean but he just seems like a passionate and viable candidate and this clip is what screwed him over?
Niuniu Lai , the radio shows morphed the scream. Made it sound really weird. Then that morphed scream was played over and over. Pretty soon thats all every news station was talking about.
cliff elgin That is such friggin bullshit. I mean the radio shows doing that, not you saying it.
Niuniu Lai It was all media. They only focused on the "yeah", made him sound strange, etc.
