I was a hardcore believer in the LOC LCO method but I excluded oils from a twist out I did a few months ago and I loved the results. I'd alternate between the LOC LCO method and not adding oils when doing my twist outs to see what works best for me and my hair... lately I cleanse my hair, condition and deep condition my hair, once that's done I then use a leave in and go to either a cream/butter or gel to styler.. the only time I use oils now is when I'm taking down my twists or breaking the gel cast after doing a wash-n-go (which I haven't mastered as of yet, but practice is key)... I do pre-poo my hair before cleansing and I use a mixture of leave in condition, aloe vera juice and then coconut oil with water to add moisture before cleansing and this works for me. p.s. I weighed the pros and cons for co-washing and rather than shampooing I co-washed this weekend and followed through with conditioning and deep conditioning before styling and my hair felt amazing... thanks for the advice :-)

Yeah. I love it too. I love the shine. Washed and styled without it yesterday and the curls frizzed up with only leave in, shea butter, cream and a gel.
@@Babyluv_ you can, however it doesn't clean they way a shampoo would. Watch green beautys video on how acv works to clean the hair she has a nice demo.
@@Babyluv_ hair strands will still remain coated in oil and all the other products you used to keep your hair moisture which is why you should use a good cleansing product but some cleansing products can strip your hair excessively.
@@Babyluv_ nope, acv will not removed heavy building up. you need a clarifying shampoo to remove heavy buildup then follow up with a moisturizing shampoo and deep conditioner
Yeah, you really cannot follow what everyone does. For me, my hair N E E D S heavy/ thick products. I put in my leave in, primer, THEN JBCO to seal the moisture and go in with my wetline. This is now my official routine and my hair has never been so soft. I put oil in it afterwards for shine purposes. But wow, I appreciate this.
I am so with you- stopped using oils about a couple years ago - my hair never responded to oils- took me a minute to figure why my hair got worse ( frizzy) when I used them.
How do you still moisturizer the hair? And what if you live in cold county. Or you can use it on different days like if you want to curl you avoid it. And lemon is not the great it have acids.
I think you need to make a clear distinction between 100% organic oils and synthetic oil mixes. Yes, IMO a lot of those synthetic oil mixes loaded with silicones and other unnecessary additives can be harmful, especially if you have low porosity hair.
This is pretty much the same if you have relaxed hair. Silicone heat serums along with oils with silicone weighs my hair down so I have to choose either or. So I use a silicone heat serum and a finish spray because my hair produces it's own oil so I can't use all those oils.
You are absolutely right! And I don't have curls, I wear a relaxer, but I have learned in the past recent years buttery creams and oils weight my hair within a week. We don't even use oils on my granddaughter's hair and she's 3 years old.
My mom repeatedly told me to stop using oils in my hair because my hair doesn't need it. She was right and so are you! My hair all 3C with bits if 3B. My hair care knowledge after transitioning came from all girls who were basically 4C. Moisturizing and sealing and oiling hair is not for everyone. It took me a while to realize that.
This is what I thought. People co-wash or use ACV and wonder why their hair feels greasy and thick, and then experience hair falling. People cleanse your hair and scalp regularly and choose the right products!
I do think that's a contributer but it doesn't mean that too many oils also weren't an issue. I only use shampoos to cleanse and my hair still doesn't like heavy oil and butter based products. During the week, between washes, it's obvious when a product was too buttery/oily and not hydrating enough because a few days in it will feel drier, frizzier and greasier than my usual juicy, fluffy, shiny hair.
@@linzeeb4 sis what's your hair care routine and products you use. I also got low p.o. hair and Im lost. It's like I've tried everything but nothing seems to work. :(
Sans Nom I kind of have a stash so I rotate my products, and I mostly buy from small businesses online rather than grabbing stuff on the ground from big box stores. I wash my hair weekly, and shampoo and deep condition every week. With all that said, my favorite cleansers are by Product Junkie Naturals. The hibiscus whipped shampoo, curl clarity shampoo, and rice water activated cleanser are probably my top three. They all do a great job cleansing my hair, but I can also detangle with them, they rinse out cleanly (no oil or residue left behind) and they also leave my hair really hydrated and plump. I have gone through many bottles of the curl clarity especially, and have a liter size. It's my #1 cleanser. Though honestly, they are super slow to ship products out and can be slow to respond via email too. Because I always have other products on hand, their products work so well for me, and because they have great sales it's worth it for me to repurchase, but I do hesitate to recommend them sometimes because they clearly don't have a team big enough for the traffic they get for their sales. I think It's usually just the founder doing everything which can be frustrating for anyone, but especially if you're not used to ordering online and waiting awhile. Another line I love for cleansers is Novaa Naturals. The papaya hydrating collection is my favorite way to gently clarify my hair while keeping it hydrated, and while I can't detangle with it (it's not as slippery as other favorite shampoos) it stays in my shower just in case another shampoo I try just doesn't cut it or I need more clean. The Drip n Curls ultimate moisture shampoo by Novaa Naturals is amazing, too. I can detangle with it, leaves my hair hydrated, moisturized and clean, it smells good etc. It checks all my boxes. I love it. It doesn't last me as long as the papaya hydrating one but they also have great sales so it's more than worth it. If you like to buy things in person, the Miche Beauty cleansed shampoo might work for you. I've only tried it once so I can't say it's a staple, but it did have a nice rich lather that I could mostly detangle with, left my hair nice and clean without being too dry and a little went a long way. I have a 2 oz sample bottle and probably have another 3 uses, it also smells good. For deep conditioners, I also love product junkie naturals and Novaa Naturals. Probably my top 2 again. I also have been loving She Scent It deep conditioners but they're newer to me. For something on the ground, I like Obia Naturals deep conditioners. They aren't "I can't be without them" level, but whenever I do buy them they work consistently and penetrate well. For leave ins I again love the brands I've already mentioned: the snap back curls and maximum moisture leave ins by Product Junkie Naturals, the Drip n Curls leave in by Novaa Naturals, and this is where Obia Naturals really shines to me: the curl moisture cream is amazing, the sweet almond heavy cream and twist whip butter are all incredible leave-in/cream stylers that are rich and super moisturizing but also pH balanced and penetrates my low porosity hair like a dream. Obia naturals can be found at Target, but they have great sales on their own site so I always stock up then. I've also been loving the Melanin Haircare leave-in. I'm mostly a wash n go person so I have a couple of holy grail gels, and a number of cream stylers and some other stuff, but I think those are the core products. I hope that helps.
@@rses916 oh also! I know I mentioned that I only shampoo, but I think it's worth saying that finding shampoos (and all products) that worked for me took a lot of trial and error, time and ingredient checking. But having clean hair allows me to have hydrated hair and that's made a huge difference. Also deep conditioning every wash is a must for me, I recently got a heated deep conditioning cap from Pydana that helps with penetration. Good luck!

you just gained a follower 💕! my hair stylist told me to never use oils again, just moisturizers. She said that my flakes are always caked up in my head because of oils and our hair creates its own oils. I’m going to miss oils but I’m changing for the better 🙂.
I used to think that my 4c hair needed oils and thick oily and buttery products. Since I’ve stopped my hair is hydrated and my kinks pop for dayzzzzz. I can even wash n go now. Oils just bring about the dryness. we keep trying to avoid🤦🏿♀️. Thank you for sharing!
I’m starting to realize my hair does not need oils . I just mix water, aloe juice and that Camille rose honey leave in thing... my hair is sooffftttt🤓... no more dryness and breakage
I’m so glad you uploaded this video because I recently started using oil on my hair for 3rd day hair and it looked so bad towards the end of the day. Couldn’t figure out why but I will for sure cut that back out of my curly hair routine!
Same a bunch of natural hair stylists I follow said it prevents moisture from getting in and coats the hair. Plus it takes multiple washes to get all the oils and butters off. They also said oils shouldn't be in the first couple ingredients.
Omg! I stopped using oil after this video. I could not figure out why my hair was frizzy. And my hair is amazing after 2 washes. I did the deep clean like you suggested and started fresh. I am following your routine now and I love my hair! Thank you so much. ❤️
It honestly just depends on if you have a winter season or not. During the summer I don't have a need for oils but when it's cold they become my best friend.
So far to-date, since I began my natural hair transition, Alyssa Marie's concepts works for me. Out of all the beauty (curly girls) influences on RUclips I found Alyssa's style of product usage has impacted my natural hair journey me the most. I am quite happy with the results, in about 18 months I will have the length I want. As you know, hair does frame the face, and when that is fly - WOW!
What do you use instead now? I'm about to stop too as well. It doesn't benefit me at all. I have noticed only diy yoghourt or coconut milk works, but I'd like other alternatives as well
I use a mixture of Wild Growth, jojoba and sweet almond oil. The last two I buy from the health food store. My hair likes them! Your hair is beautiful, I’m trying to make it to your length! 😍
My hair looks better now that I've simplified my routine. My pockets are happy too. I love that my hair still feels clean after I style. No need for harsh clarifying shampoos.
Alyssa Marie I found out that oil alone is a repellant just like you said. girl but this frizz on wash and go is horrible. I don't want to get under a dryer because I can strip moisture out with heat every week
No to stand alone oils. I completely agree. I only use oils on my skin. And products that don’t have heavy oils and butters in the first five ingredients
Great info! I don’t use oils on my hair either. I learned the hard way from when I first went natural. I was slathering coconut oil on my hair constantly until I learned better. Thanks for sharing your perspective 🙌🏾
I get that oils lock moisture out as well as in, but isn't that a good thing? Like if you moisturise your hair with a leave in and then seal it in with an oil, isn't it good that no more moisture can penetrate your strands (i.e. in humid conditions) which can leave it looking frizzy also?
It is actually a good thing and people do recommend using a oil to seal all that moisture in after your leave in. They lock the moisture like silicones do, so you don't really need to apply a hair oil serum with silicones in it (store bought oils usually have silicones, but some brands don't have them - which is great!). I do recommend a hair oil serum that you bough on a store instead of the pure oil itself. Just pure oil will attract dirt to your hair and store bought won't (because they've certain ingredients that will stop that from happening - at least that's what I've heard)
yup, i found that during rainy season i had to use shea butter to have any definition. gel would leave my hair dry and frizzy. oils were too light for me. but basically an oil/butter stops humid air sucking moisture out of your strands.
Co washing and even apple cider vinegar wont deep cleanse your hair you need a clarifying shampoo that contains sulfates to really remove everything , that's why you experienced product build up.
I don't have any build up issues. I wash (actual wash) once to twice a week. I also have medium too high porosity natural curly hair. I did the no oils and butters and my hair looked liked spongebob in Andy's dome. Scalp...cried dry tears.
No oils and butter will def. Cause your hair to look like a sponge bob. Washing twice a week too may be too drying for your hair. Let's get it straight. No oils and butter means no raw oil or butters but conditioners, moisturizers or gels. Your hair will be happy. There are oils and butters in those products already. Theres no need for extra oils.
@@gracegenerationtv9582 if I wash my hair twice in a week, it's because I've been outside playing and sweating and there is junk in my hair or I've gotten it dirty some how. A second wash means it was necessary and stinks. Dirty and stinky hair is a no no for me. It's not a every week thing. And I do not put gel or hair lotion or whatever in my hair during the week. I put oils in my deep conditioner.. Before air drying in twists or a bun, they get a leave in conditioner and some raw shea butter melted with my hands. This lasts the whole week...my edges will get some jojoba oil and nap gets black Castor oil a few times a week because when I wash my face and neck, soap gets on them removing the oil..i replace it. When I don't...it fries out and itches.
@@stephanieoni7804 right?!?! I too wash my hair once a week, twice sometimes if I'm sweating a lot. I will NOT walk around with stank hair because the natural community says I should wash my type 4 hair only once a month 🤢🤮. They can take their rules and shove it, thats a no for me too!!
@@apara2005 what missed a lot is that some of us wash our whole face not leaving a small space between the forehead and hair line. Water and soap wash away dirty and oil. So if your eggs send to be dry it's because you wanted away the oil and need to replace it.
I stop using stand alone oil as well. The oil just sat on top and my still felt dry...just greasy..I switched to shea moisture jamaican black castor oil line and my hair really seems to like it...like you, products with oil in them works great but straight out of the bottle oil does not work for me.
My acne prone sensitive skin does not like oils and butters so I don’t use them for reasons other than what you stated. I would’ve loved to hear specially the stylers you used for this wash & go. I’m happy with my current routine, it works and no more breakouts along my hairline. I see so many influencers on Instagram with back acne and I’m sure rinsing conditioners in the shower without thoroughly washing their back afterwards has a lot to do with it. I don’t have back acne …I shampoo in the shower & rinse the conditioner in the kitchen sink. I wish we could have more natural hair care products that are good for both our hair and our skin. Organic or not I can’t tolerate oils. I tried and it was a horrible mistake.
I think this helped with my hair too. I had issues with frizz and I was always doing the LOC method. I tried a wash and go without any standalone oil and it came out better than it ever has. A lot of my hair products contain oils, which is fine but I think using oil has contributed to my frizz and my hair not lasting.
Listen to your curls!! She said it! Everybody is different. My 4c hair itched for a very long time and I kept shampooing and adding oils till I watched a video showing how oils could cause dandruff and itching. Stopped adding oils to my hair and just used green clay as a shampoo and aloe as a conditioner....no more itching...amazing.. Listen to your curls :)
My hair doesn’t respond poorly to oils, I think it actually likes oil, but my hair is ABNORMALLY frizzy. Like, it REPELS water with a disgust. So maybe I should clarify my hair and try an oil free wash day 😐
Mine too! My hair can't handle any kind of butter on my hair. I have low porosity fine strands and no other moitcan enter my hair until the next wash day.
My hair typically does horribly with oil, ESPECIALLY coconut. I avoid that like the plague. I can't even use any leave in or styler that has coconut oil in it. I can use a VERY small amount of argan oil (like 3 to 4 drops, no more) to seal once my hair dries.
There are so many different types of oils though and should not all be classed together. There are some oils that can penetrate your strands, (these are good for low porosity hair) such as olive oil and grapeseed oil, often I use it after my leave in and I rinse off the EXCESS that hasn't entered by strands, you can tell because you shouldn't get that greasy feeling. Heavier oils like coconut oil will just sit on top of the hair because the molecules are too big..I stay away from them especially for my low porosity hair. I took out oils from my routine for some months and my hair suffered. You just need to know what you're doing and know your hair when using oils otherwise it can lead to breakage. AND you MUST shampoo if using oils as THAT will lead to product build up x
I stopped using oils in my hair bcuz it started giving me fungal infections. I caught ringworm like twice because of essential oils and it damaged my scalp.
Hope you made Sephora. 😊 I Googled this topic and was so happy to find you. I've stopped using oils and wanted more info. Got some nice tips from your video. Thanks.
Karabo Machokoto for scalp issues, I would think oil can be helpful... in the video I was more referring to using oil in your actual hair. but for scalp, I would think oil would be just fine!
Yeah oil makes my hair frizzy too that's funny you say that. When I realized that I stopped trying to seal while dry but while wet I'll use it. I'm gonna try not using oil at all because I was also trying to use oils on my scalp but experienced itchy scalp which is good for hair growth scratching your scalp. Thanks for this video!
All the other oils you mentioned did not really work with me and the coconut oil actaully destroyed my hair. The only oil I use ricinus oil and it is really good.
my hair is going thru a phase where it doesn't like natural oils. I do not use them either. Right now, my hair frizzes when I apply oils to it. I think the frizz might be due to protein sensitivity. I can use silicones without any issues. And I wash my hair weekly. What I do instead is use a DIY flaxseed gel, marshmallow root and slippery elm and that combination adds shine and keeps my hair moisturized.
T Will hey! So I’ve been wearing protective styles for a month at a time now. While i have my protective styles in I do use oil on my scalp to help with hair growth. But when I have my natural hair out, I don’t use oils in my hair.
And actually I remoisturize after oil with leave in and oil and it rehydrates beautifully. But I think I have medium high porosity. I only use natural oils and I don’t like leave ins that have oil in them though.
When i started using heavy oils and butters my hair felt so heavy and my hair started shedding like crazy. My hair is a lot thinner now after adding them to my routine (because someone else was doing it) when I already had a routine that was working for me. I can ONLY use lightweight oils.
Yeah same. I don't use silicone in any of my products and I only use lightweight stand alone oils when I want to scrunch out the cast of a heavy gel. I shampoo my hair every week (I have a variety of clarifying, hydrating, and emollient shampoos that I can even detangle with) and really focus on hydrating, penetrating products. I made these changes over the course of a couple of years a while back, and since then my hair has flourished. There are enough oils formulated in products that I don't need to add extra, and my low porosity hair does a fine job sealing itself. I think many people conflate oil with moisture without really understanding the role of hydration, emollience and occlusives and balancing what their own hair likes. I also am wary of heavy, buttery products, but it took a lot of trial and error to get there. I'm glad to see you put this out there so that people realize it's an option for them that they may want to try.
I recently stopped, I’ve used 100% raw organic oils and store bought ones. They all give me build up and make my hair dry and I only used them to “seal”. My hair is much softer now and receives moisture way easier.
Dear Alyssa, I have watched so many of your videos, I didn't want to judge you prematurely or too harshly but this is harmful. It's not just "unpopular opinions" You are not a tricologist, scientist or hair professional and it is irresponsible of you to use your platform in this way. Our scalp produces oil which travels down our hair. Oils are not bad for our hair, we just need to know our porosity, strand size, amount of damage, whether we are protein sensitive etc. Also oils only contain silicone if they are man made or mixed with man made products. Please, if you want to be an influencer, do a course, invest in your brand and your knowledge because people look to you for guidance, you should be using your platform responsibly. I hope that you will take this message in the spirit it is intended. You want to increase your platform via Sephora, please share accurate information. I want to root for you as a young black woman, building her brand and following. Wishing you the best. K
I agree she seems very misinformed because as far as i know oils dont just coat your hair. A lot of oils are light and are able to penetrate the hair, you can also re moisturize with them. And just by her mentioning oils with silicone or spray oils i know shes a product natural 😂 like there's natural oils you can get that are not manufactured buy a natural hair company you know like pure oils. Its just a matter of finding one compatible with your hair type.🤦🏾♀️ i feel like she shouldn't have said oils in general as a broad term or made it clear they type of oils she used in her experience.
hi kayleigh - thanks for this. I've NEVER claimed to be a triocologist or scientist, nor do I want to be one! I'm just sharing my personal GENUINE experience with oils and MY hair.
Kayleigh B trying to figure out where she said she was ever a trichologist in her videos? The title says “opinion” meaning this is based on her views not yours. Obviously what works for her hair may not necessarily work on yours or others and you’d be pretty daft if you thought it did. She’s not forcing you or anyone to follow what she does. You talked about not wanting to judge but your comment definitely does seem a bit judgy. Wishing you the best tho
@@TheFilthySick If you have a look through the comments you will see plenty of naturals following Alyssa's opinion. This could to be to their detriment because they haven't been presented with the full picture, as I said it's not only this video I am referring to. thank you so much for this video...my hair never responded to oils..and I kept buying then...I tried so many types, wasted so much money this far...so glad I looked up this video💕
I agree with the oil!!! I have friends who complain of dry hair but yet put tons of oil on their scalp to help with moisturizing!!! oil is not a moisturizer! It can lock moisture in but you are right, you would not be able to add any the next days when refreshing. I am still trying to convince them to add real moisture such as water or better yet leave in conditioner to add moisture. not oil but alas, they are still doing it... lol.
Shoutout to you cause I definitely hate coconut oil. I only use them with braids or a really well need deep conditioner. But for my wash n gos I don’t use oil.
That doesn't make sense. If the oil seals your hair, and your hair gets dry... then that means the seal has been broken which means that moisture can come back in again
Hey girl. I don't use oils either. They don't do anything for my hair but cause product buildup. I have tried all the types of oils and they never did anything. In fact, too much oils in products make my hair feel dry. So I only use products that have low amounts of oils or light oils. I have type 4 hair
I rarely use oils on my hair. I find most of them to be too thick. I do like Melanin Hair Care's oil blend though. It's super light weight, though I still don't seem to use a lot of it. If I use something that makes my hair crunchy I'll use oil only to break the cast. My hair products have oils in them no doubt, but I don't use oil as a part of my hair care routine (ex: LOC method).
not all oils seal tho there are some that penetrate into the hair shaft instead of stittin ontop of the strand and sealing and with oils that _are_ sealing you need to clarify your hair. regardless shes so pretty and has beautiful hair
For me it's great to wash my hair and use conditioner. After that I use Leave in conditioner and than I use a little bit of oil like amla and caster. After that I use Shea and mango butter and I braid it in cornrows for 2 weeks and than I repeat. I have to because I'm Muslim so I wet my hair 5 times a day. Like this my hair keeps soft and growing
So there's this instagram that uses Meraki oil and it is confusing because the hair growth I see on there is crazy. But a hair growth expert told me not to use oil bc it prevents water from goin into your hair. But I guess it depends on if the oil is soluble enough? so confused lol. also there's natural oils in our hair so it just doesn't make sense. what's the answer??? lol is oil good or and? what about our ends? should we just put oil on our ends?
I know the video is aimed at why we shouldn’t use oils, but I believe the overall message is just don’t use them as often. Coconut oil, Jamaican black castor oil, and oil sheen spray are bad for your hair. Castor oil contributes to matted and tangled hair...tea tree oil is an irritant and can cause irritation such as itching...coconut oil and olive oil are comedogenic, so they can clog your pores and contribute to build up. Eco gel causes a lot of build up too. Instead, I recommend using tea jojoba oil, almond oil, and grapeseed oil. You can mix those into a butter or cream or grease based product. I don’t recommend ever applying them by themself or directly to your scalp without them being mixed into something or at all because your scalp produces sebum and applying oil will cause build up (unless you are doing a hot oil treatment, it’s fine then). Wetline Xtreme gel is a good replacement for eco gel and if you’re looking for a hard gel edge booster is decent (it’s one of the few that doesn’t contain DMDH Hydantion and linalool).
to be clear, if oil works for your curls, use it! I always say that you should listen to your hair and stick with what works. everyone’s hair will respond differently to things. i’m simply sharing my experience in the hopes that it helps someone else with similar curls 💗

@@Babyluv_ hair strands will still remain coated in oil and all the other products you used to keep your hair moisture which is why you should use a good cleansing product but some cleansing products can strip your hair excessively.
@@genemechanic6773 what do you use shampoo conditoner DP etc please.
Amen sis that’s the way to go period!
I am so with you- stopped using oils about a couple years ago - my hair never responded to oils- took me a minute to figure why my hair got worse ( frizzy) when I used them.
RR Parker life changing right?! 🙌🏾
How do you still moisturizer the hair? And what if you live in cold county. Or you can use it on different days like if you want to curl you avoid it. And lemon is not the great it have acids.
@@db6332 deep conditioners for me and use moisturizing styling products
Did the oils break off your ends?? I have no idea why my ends are breaking
Exactly
Different hair, different care. Everyone just do what's best for YOU!
I have those same curl patterns and yes, I absolutely agree, your mom is smart!!
You had issues with build up and frizz because you don’t shampoo your hair. For people who cleanse their hair more thoroughly then it’s not a problem.
Good luck!

yup, you don't need additional raw oils on the scalp because you already produce sebum
Yeah I think we've been over doing it BIG TIME!

Lorna Barrett love to hear this! thanks for watching 🥰
I stop using oils because of u since the first time u mention it a while ago and I don’t regret it oils makes my hair dry
What do you use instead now? I'm about to stop too as well. It doesn't benefit me at all. I have noticed only diy yoghourt or coconut milk works, but I'd like other alternatives as well
@@mlj1309 You can use honey with boiled chamomile or aloe vera, as this makes the hair soft and silky
I have been detoxing from oil and I now realize it was causing my hair to be dry, coarse ans frizzy.
I use a mixture of Wild Growth, jojoba and sweet almond oil. The last two I buy from the health food store. My hair likes them! Your hair is beautiful, I’m trying to make it to your length! 😍
I stopped using oils and why my hair was always so dry was definitely because of oil
My hair looks better now that I've simplified my routine. My pockets are happy too. I love that my hair still feels clean after I style. No need for harsh clarifying shampoos.
I hate oils too (from cheap to expensive, silicon free to with silicon). It defines my wavy hair but makes it feel brittle the next day.
I am not alone! My scalp and hair do not like oils. My wash-n-go's are less frizzy and curls more define without oils and butters.
my curls will not stay moisturized without sealant. I use castor oil jamaican.
Her her crazy how different curls can react so differently! def stick with what works for your hair ❤️
Alyssa Marie I found out that oil alone is a repellant just like you said. girl but this frizz on wash and go is horrible. I don't want to get under a dryer because I can strip moisture out with heat every week

your hair is gorgeous!! iv really started loving the way my hair looks and feels when i dont use oil
Can’t wait for my hair to flourish like yours
😂😂😂 not spongebob in Andy’s dome 💀
Oil on my hair feels like it pushes moisture out of my hair
I think this helped with my hair too. I had issues with frizz and I was always doing the LOC method. I tried a wash and go without any standalone oil and it came out better than it ever has. A lot of my hair products contain oils, which is fine but I think using oil has contributed to my frizz and my hair not lasting.
What products do you use for your wash and go? If you don’t mind me asking
Great advice. I use the Curlmix products. They are extremely hydrating.
Anne little is Curlmix sold at Sally's Beauty Supply. I've heard that's a really great hydrating product...can't find it tho
I can’t wait for you to share the all time products to use.
Alyssa Marie is great delivering valuable info.
My hair doesn’t respond poorly to oils, I think it actually likes oil, but my hair is ABNORMALLY frizzy. Like, it REPELS water with a disgust. So maybe I should clarify my hair and try an oil free wash day 😐
I started experiencing extreme hair loss most likely from the oils I use (which are 100% organic)
I love your hair so much I’m obsessed 😩😍
Hmmm I never thought of that 🤔 my hair hates shea butter so ig it would make sense it wouldnt like oil either 🤔
Mine too! My hair can't handle any kind of butter on my hair. I have low porosity fine strands and no other moitcan enter my hair until the next wash day.
my hair hates oils to idk why ...oils actually make my hair falls out ...even if i buy a very expensive pure oils they just don't work
Oils make my hair hard and crunchy. I don’t use any oils. Tried it a few times and it just doesn’t work for me. I’m a 3b
My hair typically does horribly with oil, ESPECIALLY coconut. I avoid that like the plague. I can't even use any leave in or styler that has coconut oil in it. I can use a VERY small amount of argan oil (like 3 to 4 drops, no more) to seal once my hair dries.
Gorgeous healthy curls!!
I Googled this topic and was so happy to find you. I've stopped using oils and wanted more info. Got some nice tips from your video. Thanks.
But how do you keep your scalp moisturized and not dry then? many of us suffer from dry scalp issues. Like how we avoid dandruff?
Karabo Machokoto for scalp issues, I would think oil can be helpful... in the video I was more referring to using oil in your actual hair. but for scalp, I would think oil would be just fine!
@@AlyssaMarieXo Got it 😊❤️ And please do a video on protein treatments 🙏 Thanks in advance.
Deep conditioning takes care of dry scalp too.
Are you using foaming shampoo on your hair? Your scalp knows what to do but sometimes we use products that are counterproductive.
My scalp and hair dislikes oils. Makes my scalp itch like crazy.
*isn't
All the other oils you mentioned did not really work with me and the coconut oil actaully destroyed my hair. The only oil I use ricinus oil and it is really good.
Olive oil works great on my hair. Less frizz, nice shine. But have to find what works for your hair. Takes time.
my hair is going thru a phase where it doesn't like natural oils.
I've submitted a testimonial!!❤

milky fruit THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT! ❤️
I'm going to try no oils for the next two months!
How did it go ?
T Will hey! So I’ve been wearing protective styles for a month at a time now. While i have my protective styles in I do use oil on my scalp to help with hair growth. But when I have my natural hair out, I don’t use oils in my hair.
Kensthetic Ok sounds like a plan, thanks for sharing
And actually I remoisturize after oil with leave in and oil and it rehydrates beautifully. But I think I have medium high porosity. I only use natural oils and I don’t like leave ins that have oil in them though.
I also have high porosity hair and I also remoisturize after leave in and oil, but I just use a moisturizer , great minds...
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!! Oils are absolutely HORRIBLE in my 3B/3C hair 😳👎
Some oils do penetrate.
So you dont use your oil the 4 ways you did in that video you made about aunt Jackie's oil
jasmin serrano that was (obvs) before I stopped using oils!
I’m going to try this because I use oils a lot and my hair is a frizzy mess all the time and doesn’t hold its definition.

When u have a wash & go style u can’t clarify so often.
@@pjb08063 all I do is wash and go's and I clarify often. You just have to re-do the style. Worth it for clean hair and scalp 👌🏾
Interesting...... I decided to stop using butters and only use olive oil in efforts to reduce product build up ....
Oil is good for lubrication detangling in the shower with a good detangling conditioner. My mom taught me that lol
Some oils are moisturizers as well. coconut oil is a great example
I love your hair 🖤
Your hair is beautiful 😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️
I think this applies to low porosity heads and/or folks that don't use shampoo.
I use tea tree oil coconut oil Jamaican oil oil sheen eco gel I spray water on my hair am I doing the right thing
I literally don’t know wtf works for my hair lol I’m just now learning. I’m gonna try oils to see but who knows man 😭
