I've a question about these adapters in general: does the camera know the focal length of the adapted lens for adjusting steadyshot accordingly automatically? Thanks in advance.
The Commlite Auto-Focus Mount Adapter EF-NEX can be used with old Sigma eos lens?
I have a sony a7sii with a metabones adaptor and canon 24-105. Im getting this black ring when I'm recording in 4k ... help?
But what I want is the Other way round. Adapters for my Sony E Mount tht I can use on my Canon Camera. Pls can u help or anyone?
Hello chadwin I have Sony alpha 58, which adapter can you suggest for me to use with my Canon lenses please?
Thank you
Thank you for the great video. Is there a more expensive option that allows full auto controls as well as ND built in?
Sean Conroy no problem! Yes, you can check out this adapter. It’s electronic with ND. I haven’t test it though, so I’m not sure how well it’s works with different lenses.

Just love your content man just keep it up
Paritosh Nayak hey thanks so much! 🙂 I hope to make plenty more videos for y’all.
The paint the inside trick was worth the view. Thanks!
Johnnie yeah, it’s definitely necessary to stop all the reflections!
What model is your A7? I have an A7II and have heard that the Commlite does no Auto Focus on the A7II. Have you heard anything about this? Thanks
I'm using the A7s. The auto focus works alright, but isn't super fast with the Commlite. If you've done your research and heard it doesn't work with the A7II, I'd try something else, like the Sigma MC11 possibly!
can you change aperture with any of these?
William Wallace yes, the Commlite adapter has electronic control of the aperture
Hi thank you so much for this very useful information. I have one question I mistakenly bought a lens not compatible with my camera. and its impossible to return it by now. I bought a sigma 18-35mm 1.8 DC for SONY A mount but my camera is Canon EOS 90D which is EF-S Mount--( totally did not fit)--- Could I still find an ADAPTER between my camera Canon 90D and this Sigma lens which Sony A mount?
Thank you so much
How can i adapt a canon automatic lens with a manual adaptor on my sony a6000 and control my aperture?
You can't control an electronic/automatic lens with a manual adaptor. You'll need an electronic adaptor to change your aperture. I recommend the Commlite adaptor I linked to in the description, or this on that allows aperture control And has a variable ND built in. www.amazon.com/Vizelex-Throttle-Fusion-Adapter-Mount/dp/B01J6AHMK0
Hi nice review just starting out bought a used sony a7 with not a lot of budget I was wondering if the commlite adapter will work with the yongnou lenses thanks subscribe
Ricky Maningas if they are Canon EF mount lenses they should work. It works with most EF lenses, no guarantee on how good AF will be though. Thanks for the sub!
Hello. I want to ask you about the adapter EF MOUNT to E-MOUNT...
I have the EF 28-300mm lens and am considering buying the SONY A7R (61MP).
With this adapter, can I match the lens to the camera?
And if so, will I have any negative results?
Thanks very much.
yes, any of the adapter would allow you to physically mount any canon EF lens to a Sony E mount camera. However, you need one with electrical connections to control your focus and aperture for that lens since it's not fully manual.
Hey mate thanks for your time
Question does peaking still work on the Sony with the dead adaptor
Yep! The peaking works off of the sensor and internal software only, so you don't need any electronic connections. Same goes for Zebras, etc.
Ok great thanks heaps
did the fotasy achieve infinity focus ok on canon manual lenses? did the commlite? thanks
Lo Loo yes. I haven’t had any issues reaching infinity focus on either adapter.
@@chadwin thank you. But I meant did infinity focusing actually line up with the infinity symbol on the lens? Mine is also off by a 1/4 turn.
The ones you've shown are "not just as well". ONe's full on manual and the Metabones(and alike) are electronic focusing.
Thanks! Great video! I just preordered a Sony A7iii. Actually I´m still using the Canon 80d with EF-S (APC) lenses, I have one EF (Fullformat) too. Which adapter should I buy? ( I don´t know yet, which native lens I should buy for the Sony and first I want to make some test with the existing lenses. Any suggestions?)
I would say start off with the Commlite adapter so you can control your aperture and focus still on your Canon lenses. As far as Sony native glass goes, that's totally up to you and what kind of stuff you shoot.
Thank you. I appreciate your advice and will do so.
Check out the latest Metabones active adapter, as I have found with the A7 III, everything works great now-- including AF and all other electronic functionality!
Some have said they have also had similar experience with the Aputure solutions. I see a lot of people have similar experience with the new SONY III series (A7 III A7R III) cameras. This may be a major issue for Canon (and Nikon to some extent).
Ata Lipsos I’m using the Sigma MC-11 and it works great on my Sony a6300 with my Sigma lenses. I just updated the firmware and it works even better! Not so much with the Tamron 70-200 version 1 lens as its always hunting..
Hi Chadwick, just wondering if I can use canon M lenses on Sony E? By using any adapters ? Cause all adapters I can find are canon EF not canon M
sorry no. they have the same flange distance between canon m and sony e, so you can't use an adapter.
hey!! nice video!!
I got an EF Sigma 24mm 1.4, do you think i'll be allright with the dead adapters ?
Riaz Oozeer you can definitely use a dead adapter with it, but you want have any control of your aperture or autofocus.
Perfect!!!! Good to know 😅 thanks for replying man
Please help my life! would this work on my sony a7siii and rokinon cine 35mm (ef) without cropping my soul?
yes! these adpaters work with a7siii and full frame lenses, no crop!
@@chadwin thanks for response
thanks for the video pal!
Mauricio Perea definitely! Thanks for watching!!
Hey! i have a Tamron G2 70-200 for canon, will it be compatible with sony with the adaptor ?
Well...it's hard to say, they don't update the site with every lens that is compatible. It will definitely mount, but you may not have apurture control, which is obviously a problem. You cold email the company directly to see if they have an updated list of supported lenses.
Hi I have ef-m lenses(eos m lenses), I am thinking to buy sony a6500 body, is there any way to use these lenses with sony body?
Erden Mete I haven’t seen adapters for eosm to e mount, but maybe if you search more on amazon/google you’ll find some.
@@chadwin Thnx for your answer, Unfortunately there is no adaptor about that. I have eos m and 3 ef-m lenses, I m thinking to upgrade my camera, If ı buy sony a6300 3 ef-m lenses, batteries and ef adaptor will go to trash, If I buy eosm50, I cant use again my ef-m lense cause of crop factor... The only way is buying a new camera + speedbooster + ef lenses and its not cheap
@@erdenmete3497 the eos m50 and the eos m both share the same 1.6x crop factor and have the same efm mount so all your efm lenses can still be used.
I really like your videos
hey thanks!
is there anyway to put a sony e mount on a canon eos m50?
Liam Bryan Filmmaking unfortunately no. Sony e mount lenses aren’t adaptable to any other cameras as far as I know.
question ? I purchased a Sony a6300 can I use an adapter with that too ??
Melissa Amaya absolutely! I use adapters on my a6500 all the time.
Chadwin Smith awesome! Thank you so much!! 😊
Hi smith love from India I admire your work I want to know about 720p60 video how we have to shoot and edit them and upload it to RUclips with Sony a6300
Hey, thanks for watching, I appreciate it! I think what you're asking is about shooting in 60p on the a6300 right? Typically I only shoot in 60p so I can slow it down to 40% speed on a 24p timeline when editing. Then I upload it to RUclips as a 24p project and it plays back as slow mo.
Will the commlite work on a Sony a5100 with a canon ef 50mm 1.8 lens ?
I believe so yes, because it's a Sony E mount and the adapter works with Canon EF lenses.
Chadwin Smith thank you I purchased the canon lens yesterday obviously it’s the newer one the stm would that make a difference? Sorry I’m new to cameras so I’m just now learning about them 😂 I ask that because the list of lens that fit to the adapter has the canon 50mm but it doesn’t say stm it says II
Is there any solution to adapt the Canon lenses in the Sony A7iii and it works perfectly for video?
I would venture to say that there is no perfect solution when adapting any lens to another body type. However, I'd also say the Commlite, Metabones, and Sigma MC11 are all the best options for video if you don't have native glass.
From what I've seen the MC-11 is probably the best solution for hi end Canon glass, wide angle at least on the A7III. For telezoom I'd go with Sigma, only from experience, my 150-600c works a dream with the MC-11 and A7III combination. Just avoid using the cheap lenses like the budget Sigma APO 70-300mm. It didnt like that at all.
Thankyou sir love from india
Hi, where can I check if my camera and a lens is compatible?
yeah, you'll just have to check the product pages and manufacture website to see if your lens is compatible! best of luck!
Great recommendations.
One thing though, it really depends on which SONY camera. The inability to get great AF and fast, stabilized shooting with adapted glass is no longer an issue with the latest hardware and firmware in the A7 III and the A7R III. They work as well as the native do in terms of AF and stabilization. In fact, some have found better performance and resolution with the Canon lenses (e.g. the 85 1.2 L2, the 200mm 2.0 L2 and the 300mm 2.8 L2 are ones I know for sure, and I hear others have found this as well with other lenses). So, canon glass can now work as well, and sometimes provide better than the native performance in terms of focus and related aspects.
However, it does take the right adapter, of which I only have experience with the EF to E Metabones (the mark 5). I have heard others have had a similar experience with the Aputure, although I have only personally used Aputure for MFT to EF, so I can't say about that brand for sure.
This was not the case with the A7R II and the A7S II series, and I have not worked with the A9, so I cannot say. However, I do not think I am alone in saying that the A7 III will be a game changer for SONY in enabling people who have significant investments in great Canon glass to get the benefits of the latest SONY cams.
Check it out for yourself, as I would love to hear your assessment of this.
Thanks for the thorough comment! I have heard great things about the a7iii already, so hopefully it does handle adapted AF better. I haven’t used Metabones adapters myself yet, but I have heard they work really well.
which is the best adapter for Sony 7rII ?
if I dont own canon, nikon lenses... IS IT WORTH IT to buy converter and buy canon nikon lenses w/c are cheaper than sony lenses?
I'm looking into that too. I think you can get some nice used canon glass that way for cheap, e.g. macro lens.
But old lens has to be good to resolve 24mp or even 42mp
when I put my adapter onto my sony a7 with my canon sigma ef lens, I see a black ring in the shot. How can I fix this?
It sounds like you're putting a full frame lense on a crop sensor...or maybe the lens just isn't big enough to cover it once you use the adapter for some reason. It's easily fixed though, just turn on APSC mode in your a7 menu and it will get rid of the vignetting.
@@chadwin yea but if i turn on apsc it cuts off most of the video and is zoomed in too far. Also Do i need a high end sd card to shoot in 4k? im shooting is avchd I think its called and the footage come out mp4 on my computer and is somewhat pixelated. doesnt give that soft film look like canon. Just bought the sony for low lighting purposes with shooting music videos but was also thinking about the canon 5d mark ii. Would the canon 5d mark ii have good low lighting? I bought the sony but have all canon lenses and am sort of bumped the adapter i use doesnt work out of apsc mode. thanks!
woul this work? Fotodiox EF to Sony E-Mount Lens Adapter, or would I still have the same issue
@@nomapowercards3649 which canon sigma lens is it? it sounds like it is a APSC lens, hence it will show the black ring on your full frame A7 no matter what adapter you use. Only full frame canon lenses will project a full frame image onto the whole A7 sensor.
How much, if any, with these adaptors effect the f-stop?
Jack Darrer the Commlite adapter allows you to change the f-stop electronically and has no effect on light coming in. The dumb adapter has no ability to change the f-stop and also doesn’t hinder light coming in. The Vizelex adapter doesn’t allow you to change the f-stop, and it does keep about a stop of light from coming in, even when you have the variable ND dialed all the way down.
cheers man, thanks for the quick response as well. Found the video very informative and look forward to seeing me!
Hi brother, I have a question? If I get sigma lenses for canon E mount camera, if I need to use those lenses for Sony camera? It's possible??
I think what you're asking is if you can use Sigma Canon EF Mount lenses on a Sony E Mount camera, the answer is Yes by using an adapter. Most of my glass is Canon EF mount, but I use it all on Sony's.
Chadwin Smith so what adapter should I get? Can you mention the name
@@aswin0909 Yeah if you look in the description of this video, I've linked to 3 different adapters that will work. Check 'em out!
I shoot on my Canon t2i and t3i still
You forget the SIGMA MC-11 Adapter this is the best
sanafer mufakir I’ve heard great things about it, but haven’t used it myself yet!
Acrylic Studios it’s a great adapter! I also ordered the Vitrox auto speed booster adapter (waiting for it) . I get that extra stop of light and it makes my Crop a Full-Frame. I shoot a lot of sports and wildlife so I need a fast autofocus system without burning the bank...
I use the MC11 on sigma lens and its spot on, video and photo, not so much for video on canon lenses though but sigma lenses are perfect
@@chadwin Then why did you make a video on a topic that you haven't done appropriate research on? I know you want to make money off RUclips videos, but come on man. At least make it seem like you put in a little bit of effort.
@@sparkplug._ you're right he didn't do enough research that sigma adapter is amazing but very costly
Is this compatible with Alpha a380?
No. That camera is "A Mount" and this is for E Mount only. But there are A mount to E mount adapters you can get as well I believe.
nice video
MoroccanAnwar thank you 👊🏻
You missed out the MC-11 and didn't even mention it in your video (whether you own it or not).
Ferhan Khan Photography A lot of people have been saying that. I hear it’s a great adapter and is certainly worth mentioning!
The Commlite is a disaster on my A7iii with Tamron 70-300mm Canon mount. I wasn`t worried about the poor af, just wanted aperture control. It can`t even do that. It`s all over the place. I guess it doesn`t support Tamron lenses for some reason
Alpine Wonders dang! I’m sorry to hear it isn’t working for you. It works well with my Tamron 24-70 and 70-200, but you gotta check the compatible list, yours may not be on it. Luckily there are other adapters that may have the right firmware
Sure we can use these adapters but are there NOT major limitations to this? don't we loose functionality, lighting, etc.....??
I am really wanting the Sony a7 3 for film making but they are so expensive! what do you recommend? and are these usable with the Sony a 7 3??
Jeff Lennan there are definitely limitations to each of these adapters, but they get the job done! I’ve been using them professionally for years. If you’re buying a new Sony camera and new lenses, I’d just recommend buying all Sony mount lenses to start out with so you don’t need adapters. A7iii is pricey. I also have Sony a6500 and HIGHLY recommend it, fantastic camera and cheaper.
I almost bought the 6500 but I will be shooting films and the battery, overheating were kind of a deal breaker for me. I guess I could buy a external battery and put a cloth over it in the hot sun, but that seems like a pain.
How is the auto focus on your 6500 and IS?
The battery life is pretty short on every Sony camera because the batteries are so small, that's why I bought a ton of them. I haven't really had issues with overheating, but mainly because I don't film in 4k for endless hours and when I do I use an AC/DC adapter or V-Mount battery. Auto focus and IS work very well!
SIGMA MC-11 THE BEST ADAPTER!
Yaz Izz I’ve heard so many great things about it, I still need to give it a try!
there are multiple types of canon lenses. it would be nice if you retitled the video to be clear this is about canon EF adapters
Dude, you missed the best, Sigma MC11. Metabones is also ok, but way more expensive and not as reliable, fast and accurate as MC11. Commlite was pretty ok. Yongnuo was complete garbage...
KaroGraphix Photography Yeah, I’ve heard a lot of really good things about the Sigma MC11 from many people, I’ll have to get one and try it out! The Metabones is just way too expensive for what you get, in my opinion.
What’s up guy!
Mike Stoops that’s what’s up!
Something is really off regarding whitebalance and colours in this video
1:24 hope the fumes from the spray paint doesn’t ruin your sensor
No, definitely not. Once you spray paint the adapter, you have to let it dry for many hours up to a day before using it on the camera to keep any fumes or particles from getting onto the sensor.
more like the paint will eventually chip and you'll be trying to remove black paint chips from your sensor... gooooooood luck
do you lose detail when using a canon adapter for sony? i want to get a canon M6, m5 OR m50 but every review i've seen says that you'll lose detail on a canon.. but i have yet to hear anyone say anything about losing detail with sony? now i'm not looking to shoot video just photo.
Patrick Cazer I don’t notice any loss in detail whether I’m using an adapter or Sony lenses. I’d recommend using native glass any time you can though. If you already have lenses, adapt them. If you’re planning on buying new ones, buy the native ones for your camera body.
Patrick Cazer - have you yet tried an A7iii? If not, all I can say is, want to buy one of my Canon’s? I know that there are always other considerations that may rule out the SONY for you; but I have shot for over 4 decades, and these new SONY’s have increased my fun, productivity and focus hit rates more than I could have imagined.
what kind of canon do you have? i have a 60D
I have a 5DSR, which I got due to its medium format-like resolution for landscapes, astro-landscapes, etc and being able to sacrifice megapixels in post (i.e. cropping, de-noising, etc), and for larger prints.
i was asking cause you recommended i buy one of your canons, but i'm trying to go mirrorless that's not mirrorless.
dont use Vello, they get stuck on your lenses!
NSV that’s good to know! I’ve never tried them, but I’ll stay away for sure.
Why does your title say "Best Canon Lens to Sony Adapters"? The first one is worthless because it does not do anything (focus, aperture) and you have to paint it lol. The second one does not focus well. And then the last one is a dead adapter to lol. Why not just call it 3 shitty lens adapters lol.
If you're using fully manual lenses, then having 2 dead adapters isn't a problem, I use them on a regular basis and they work great. If you want really quick autofocus, it's best to use native Sony glass. Otherwise the Commlite adapter works well for controlling aperture and focus (just not at incredible speeds). No adapter will give you the same speed, quality and control that using native glass will, so yeah, most adapters aren't perfect.
Anyone else notices he has facial expressions like a very upset woman?
Anyways, thanks for the info!0
90% of this video you shoot your face talking? why ?
Making a list of the "best" adapters when you haven't tried the best ones is just plain clickbait. You should have just called this vid "The adapters I've tried."
The second I hear a video presentation starting with WHAT'S UP, instantly gets a thumbs down. There are so many other ways to greet people but every upstart on yourtube is sticking with this pathetic phrase. I'll tell you what's up... Thumbs down. That's what's up. 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬
nice video
Nice comment! thanks.
