It's been about 15 years or so since I saw these first few episodes of the New Voyages. They still stand up and may be even better than I remembered them. They are of course, by far better than any corporate "Trek" made in the last 20 or so years. Stories right out of and up there with TOS, loving production and amazing cameos (behind and in front of the camera). Great to see again!

incredible use of the original actors in this series. My husband died in October and I cannot tell you how trite "I am sorry for your loss" got to be sounding from people. When Kirk said it, it was SO sincere I felt he said it to me.
May I ask a question of you? I don't wish to pry nor cause offense. However, a friend of mine is going to lose is wife in the not too distant future. I, too, have always found the, "I'm sorry for your lose" to be so trite and so, well, frankly unhelpful. So, my question is this: Is there some better phrase? I had tears and I am still wiping them away as I just viewed the episode. this is what Star Trek is all about, they really caught the vision that it was supposed to have. not all the flash in the pan but a real homage to the original. I wish George would stop being mad at William Shatner. It wasn't his fault and if the roles were reversed I don't think he would have acted any different. I hazard a guess that Shatner would not have been so petty if the roles were reversed to be honest. George did a great job here but he needs to let it go once and for all.
I've been to places and known people who have lost children from many causes.I think the last scene brought some sense of closure for the Sulu Character. Given his exprience in the alternate Universe, "Grandpa" is going to SPOIL that baby!
I am so pleased that comments are turned on for this episode. The fact fact that fans could put together something of this caliber and quality is mind blowing. Absolutely amazing!! Even vic mignogna who plays Kirk (no easy task considering who you are compared to) is exceptional. From the attention to detail to the special effect to the music...just incredible. Well done!!
@@skyhorseprice6591 There's a legend floating around out there that says that Elvis Presley was considered for the role of Captain Kirk. It is, of course, not at all true, but...Mr. Cawley gives us a glimpse of what might have been if it were.
All of the accolades that this presentation has received were genuinely well earned. Well produced, well written, and in the spirit of the franchise of old. To say that I liked it would be the understatement of the year. Thanks to all who worked on this. I was entertained, moved, and more.
My heart hurts so much. On another note, I can't imagine the joy George had doing this or the complex feelings about the fate of his character. Beautiful acting from all the Sulus. :)
I can say Mr Takei was very happy to be there and doing his job.. as everyone was, and I can send a belated THANK YOU to everyone who stuck by Trek back in the day As he said it was us who kept it going all these years.
Just "WOW". That was REALLY Well done! The entire production had the look and feel down perfectly! On top of that, the story was touching and had great flow from beginning to end, the acting was perfectly executed too!
This story made me tear up. It had the flavor of Star Trek TOS with the realistic drama, acting, directing and story line of an Academy Award level presentation. I do hope this team will do another video with George Takei. He still has it.
I also enjoyed this episode as well!It has the “old school’Star Trek episodes, here! The actress who played;Alana was great, but,I wasn’t sure if she would’ve been a character that I would’ve liked at first. But,I think, she was 👌 okay. After all,Captain Kirk had a love 💕 interest of the week!He certainly did on the original show of the 1960”s!
Its amazing how much this much this episode has hit me. Well done. Very well done. The actress playing Sulu's daughter did a great job. She has a great future in front of her.
Love seeing George in his classic role, and this episode was genuinely emotional. I have wonder if a certain Mr. Shatner could ever be talked into performing in New Voyages.
Absolutely incredible! Wonderful story telling an frankly this is 10 times better quality than main line StarTrek while preserving the feel of the original series! I love it!
Too bad the cast here isn't as diverse as the original series. The original series' bridge: Men, women, Asian, Vulcan, African Woman, European origin...and the rest of the cast...Kahn (South Asian), Kirk's tribunal: African American man, South Asian Man, A Woman, and on and on. The original series hosted hollywood's first inter-racial kiss! All in 1965 and the entire world was represented in the original Star Trek series, all races, living and working together. What a tremendous ground-breaking achievement for the original series!
This is, for me, amongst the best and the most intelligent Star Trek. On a par with the best of the Viacom episodes, so well-funded. You have created something that moves me and provoked my thoughts and feelings. The acting was so well done. Thank you for this.........
This particular episode has won several awards including the TV-Guide best sci-fi webisode and was nominated for a Hugo award against Dr. Who and Battlestar Gallactica.
As I pointed out to the director's son, not long ago, this episode had all the hallmarks of a production directed by Gerd Oswald ... just like the Old Series episode he directed, which also had a Shakespearean ambiance, a sad outcome for the leading lady, and a broken heart by Kirk at the end. I always considered most of the Old Series episodes as hokey; but that one stood out from the rest and showed what the series could have been ... as does yours.
My goodness this was a very special episode, a touch of old school with modern approach, however a soft story of love & wisdom, a fantastic storyline involved, this will go places boldly go where no story has gone, 'WELL DONE THANK YOU a serious fan!!!👍
I'm a long-time "Trekkie". I pride myself in being a macho "He Man".I've seen a lot of episodes but this one, broke me down to my bare and fundamental essence. it disassembled my atoms to the very core of their being, literally and rebuilt them back, from the ground up.The epitome of a true tear-jerker!🤧
George Takei - what a class a class act (on an off screen). And so was Grace Lee Whitney. Not forgetting Walter Konig, Tim Russ, Gary Graham and a few others from ST TV shows. They've all given up their time for free to give me/us/everyone the closest thing to TOS we're ever going to get now that so many of the originals have passed on. And it's all getting better and better, thanks to the dedication of people like James Cawley and Vic Mignogna and all the different cast and crew-members. Way to go guys. Live long and prosper.
Sulu was the most underused character on TOS, he never got a single good character episode! Finally. This is what both the actor and the fictional character deserved.
The only fitting thing i like about this epp is its connection between TOS and TMP eras involving Sulu as both Helmsman of the Enterprise and captain of the Excelsior.
The character of Sulu was to be featured in the Gamesters of Triskelion, but George Takei's role in The Green Beret Movie with John Wayne did not finish filming on time. It would have been Sulu, instead of Chekov opposite Jane Ross as Tamoon, which when I saw the original episode (as a pre-teen) I thought Jane Ross's portrayal of Tamoon was by a male actor in drag because of her deep voice. It would have been an inside joke if that was the case had George Takei co-starred in that episode.
I was lucky enough to talk with Mr Takei in 2013 when he appeared as narrator with the Nashville Symphony. George was in the green room with us for about 45 min after dress rehearsal. He spoke with fondness about his whole experience with Phase II and the rare opportunity to have a character expanding role so far removed from his original work. He appreciated too the chance to work with the “emerging talent” (his words) of Christina Moses, assuring us that we’d know her for more work soon. Right as usual, George. She has 30 IMDB credits today.
This episode makes me cry every damn time I watch it. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, and it doesn't get anymore Star Trek then that right there. The gut wrenching, soul crushing sacrifices the few endure so the many can survive, it's like the wrath of khan only with more tears. This is my favorite episode from the entire fan series and it is worthy to be Star Trek, and i would hope that even Gene Roddenberry would have been proud of this, rest his soul. Thank you for telling this story.
8 years after this was put online, this is still a powerful story the is head and shoulders above what the studios have been producing. I would have paid to see this in theatres and quite satisfied I had done so, thank you for all of your efforts. Kudos to the entire cast for a job very well done!
That was outstanding! Really hit with the feels in that last part, getting Demora to name her daughter after the sister she never knew. Paramount need to take that and make that story part of Sulu's legacy so to speak in SNW or something. These episodes are above and beyond, fantastic, really enjoying them.
THANK YOU! we really enjoyed the entire show, loved everything from seeing Mr.George Takei again to the original details and how well the story was done! i didn't know how much i missed the original until we found this, we will absolutely continue to be fans for a long long time.
Best Star Trek episode ever. George Takei plays the part of Hikaru Sulu excellently as always. The reference to "The Tempest" goes deep on the poetic level.
Man for being a fan-film, this is by far the most moving episode of any Star Trek series, official and non-official. George Takei was amazing in this. I totally geeked out during the this whole episode. Thank you for keeping the TOS era alive with new and amazing stories.
Absolutely brilliant episode and I love seeing George Takei back as Sulu. It was also one of the saddest episodes I have seen, up there with City on the edge of Forever. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

What a great episode. Perfect TOS caliber storyline, and easily the most heartbreaking sci fi I've seen since the Farscape episode 'Look at the Princess.'
I agree, been trying to get my Trek pals to watch it. They nailed it. It's real Trek all the way. And the Kirk guy James Crawley built a Star Trek original set in Ticonderoga NY. Incredible.
@@Lee-Darin I was actually up there not long ago. I play in a band and I had a gig across the street from the set in Ticonderoga. And the great part of it? I was standing right next to James Crawley at Stewart's right down the road. LOL. I turned to him and I said "hey, aren't you that Star Trek guy?"
I was skeptical about whether or not this would be good, but I must admit that I truly did enjoy this. Great story that captures the spirit of the original series.
I recently discovered these episodes while on Covid 19 lockdown in 2020. It is amazing what was accomplished here with a shoe string budget and what was probably a hell of a lot of work by this series creators, crew and actors. What an achievement. Thank you.
"What is the point?" This series, and this episode in particular, has brought a lot of happiness to those involved in making and watching it. It was not that expensive to make and paid for by those making it. This series IS both highly creative and imaginative. If you do not like it, there are plenty of other videos on RUclips. I suggest you direct your comments at the tons of stupid shows on TV.

An amazing production on so many levels. Sulu always has been a warrior and he so grew into this part and the lady who played his played his daughter really got into the part and was quite remarkable. Mccawley made a great Captain Kirk and hair color is such a simply thing.

For me this is the hope for our future, if only the whole world would put aside their differences and work together....it could be a Heaven on our Earth, and possibly....a future for exploration of our solar system.....but not in it's present condition. God bless all who have made and contributed to this endeavor of continuing a saga of hope for us.....without out it, we are but lost to nothing more than existence without insight or imagination. Hope is what helps build our futures. HIGH 5 to all who made this and other Star Treks possible. Love you all.....HIGH 5
Oh my This was amazing. The production quality is impressive for a fan funded thing. The acting, though imperfect, does a great job of capturing the spirit of TOS And the story was classic. This one had the emotional depth of many of the original series/next generation episodes. It made you laugh ("shouldn't you send me candy & flowers first") and cry, with the very touching scenes near the end when Sulu's daughter knew her life could not continue. Awesome job guys!

Well done!!
I agree, just beautiful! I cried through this episode. I was flabbergasted.
@@lindawilkerson5900 I would have to say everyone did.
That isn't Vic. He played Kirk in Star Trek Continues.
The actor who plays Kirk in this series is James Cawley.
@@skyhorseprice6591 There's a legend floating around out there that says that Elvis Presley was considered for the role of Captain Kirk. It is, of course, not at all true, but...Mr. Cawley gives us a glimpse of what might have been if it were.

I shed tears on this episode, it was amazing!
The actor's reminded me of the original cast so much, I was transported back.
Thank you.
All of the accolades that this presentation has received were genuinely well earned. Well produced, well written, and in the spirit of the franchise of old. To say that I liked it would be the understatement of the year. Thanks to all who worked on this. I was entertained, moved, and more.
This is objectivly both the best written, and performed Sulu centreic episode of all of Star Trek
Yes, even though Spock and McCoy were a little different, they did well overall.
Congrats to everyone involved.
This story made me tear up. It had the flavor of Star Trek TOS with the realistic drama, acting, directing and story line of an Academy Award level presentation. I do hope this team will do another video with George Takei. He still has it.
It got me as well :)
A great storyline and episode.
A salute to the crew who made this.
Sulu... 🖖 George Takei
One of the best Star Trek episodes ever made. This is the Star Trek we have missed, the new stuff blows. Please keep them coming.
Love seeing George in his classic role, and this episode was genuinely emotional. I have wonder if a certain Mr. Shatner could ever be talked into performing in New Voyages.
It would be nice since he's sat in that exact Captain's Chair at this set.
@@Lee-Darin
Very cool.
In another new generation episode,Mr.Cawley played;Elvis Presley,as Captain 👩✈️ Kirk was in;’a crazy 😜 house.”It was in the episode;”Mindbender.”
Absolutely incredible! Wonderful story telling an frankly this is 10 times better quality than main line StarTrek while preserving the feel of the original series!
I love it!
You must have seen a different episode to the one I have just seen.
Perhaps because I was blown away with the intensity and just awesomeness of it!
@@lawrenceallen8096
They're fans of the show making something they're passionate about! Just give them a break for christ sake. So annoying.
@@jaymac7203 Ah, well, its just that I get annoyed when people who are standing on other's shoulders decided to piss on how those are standing on.
I can't thank you enough for this labor of love. The "Enterprise" and her original crew is what started it all. Bravo! LLAP ❤️
This is, for me, amongst the best and the most intelligent Star Trek. On a par with the best of the Viacom episodes, so well-funded. You have created something that moves me and provoked my thoughts and feelings. The acting was so well done. Thank you for this.........
The return at the ending put a MASSIVE smile on my face. Wow.
This particular episode has won several awards including the TV-Guide best sci-fi webisode and was nominated for a Hugo award against Dr. Who and Battlestar Gallactica.
Simply because it's GREAT!
Well-deserved!!!!
I can´t understand why this series are not filmed in at least 1080p. 720p is blurry.
@@DihelsonMendonca It was uploaded 9 years ago. 720p was maximum of youtube that time.
This was beautifully done and will be a fan favorite for years to come. Thank you all for this !!
My goodness this was a very special episode, a touch of old school with modern approach, however a soft story of love & wisdom, a fantastic storyline involved, this will go places boldly go where no story has gone, 'WELL DONE THANK YOU a serious fan!!!👍
I'm a long-time
"Trekkie".
Live long and prosper.
awesomeness....
A Heart rendering story of love and sacrifice. Truly one of the best, bringing out the entire gamut of human / alien emotions. Well done!
Christina Moses absolutely knocked it out of the park. What an impressive actor -- holy crap!
Gotta say, impressive! Good writing. great acting, and... Sulu the Barbarian! Possibly one of the best episodes of the entire franchise.
+Dan Ibsen Exactly! i agree.
I would say even if so a close 2nd is The Visitor (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)
Absolutely brilliant episode and I love seeing George Takei back as Sulu. It was also one of the saddest episodes I have seen, up there with City on the edge of Forever. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Cant get enough of it. I hav been watching this episode over and over.

This is one of the finest star treks I’ve seen. And I’ve seen most of them. Sulu is brilliant!
What a great episode. Perfect TOS caliber storyline, and easily the most heartbreaking sci fi I've seen since the Farscape episode 'Look at the Princess.'

I'm so glad George takei was able to make this episode. It was very poignant and moving.
This is award material. Best written episode of any show. I cried so hard watching this.
"What is the point?" This series, and this episode in particular, has brought a lot of happiness to those involved in making and watching it. It was not that expensive to make and paid for by those making it. This series IS both highly creative and imaginative. If you do not like it, there are plenty of other videos on RUclips.

This is a great performance by George Takei. The writing and production quality are superb also. Keep up the good work. You deserve all the kudos!
An amazing production on so many levels. Sulu always has been a warrior and he so grew into this part and the lady who played his played his daughter really got into the part and was quite remarkable. Mccawley made a great Captain Kirk and hair color is such a simply thing.
