Noisy FJ Door? Replacing the Stop Check Assembly on a Toyota FJ Cruiser

Can’t open or shut the door on your FJ Cruiser without creating a horrible racket? Then you probably need to replace the Stop Check Assembly. Don’t worry...it isn’t as hard as it seems. I’ll walk you through the steps necessary to remove and replace the door panel and the Stop Check Assembly.
You’ll need:
Toyota Part Number 68620-35020
A 10 mm socket and socket extender
A Phillips head screwdriver
and, for convenience, some nylon panel remover tools (not required but nice to have).

My FJ's door was making the same sound. Bought the part, took the door panel off, and noticed that all I needed to do was tighten one of the nuts - mine hadn't totally bent yet and didn't need to be replaced. Thanks for the vid though!

My 2010 had just recently gotten noisy. Today a nut fell out of the door. Thanks for posting now I know where the nut came from. The other nut had almost backed off completely also. After tightening them both I have no more noise. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the walk-through. On my '13, the rubber/plastic (on the arm of the check) snapped off on the door side--there's certainly no dampening effect when door is opened anymore. Made a loud 'crack!' sound when it broke. 🤣 I'd be curious to know the proper way to remove the switch assembly, so as not to break tabs. I read in different video's comments to gently pry from the front first. I'm envious of your flat garage, btw-our condo has a very steep parking lot and my vehicle's is alway parked cockeyed at a 30°angle. 🙄 Just getting in and out of my FJ and, God-forbid working on it here is NOT fun or easy-easy 🤣

*Mine made the same noise then I realized the 10mm Nuts were loose and that was all!*
*BTW Who take any vehicle to a Stealership out of warranty?* 🤦🏻‍♂🤦🏻‍♂

The dealership actually dented the door on this FJ the first time I took it in, brand new, for the free oil change. One month later, they fixed the door, but dang. Sort yourself out, ay?
