      I love hearing that sound everytime we stsrt engines, on every aircraft I've ever worked... These bad boys out out a few thousand (s) volts more spark than the grill ignitor does... But still very similar concept and sound... Except for a bad time when you don't hear it... I guess for both the engine and the grill situation..

    Those "strange" noises that are heard while maneuvering, are the clutches on each drive being engaged/disengaged. The pilot is essentially steering the boat at that point with the independent props...

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 2 года назад +1

      Those are not clutches. The boat has crash boxes. What you hear are the PT's being engaged and disengaged via disc brakes on the PT shafts. You put the drives in and out of gear while the PT is not rotating, that's the whole idea behind crash boxes. There are buttons on the shift levers to engage and disengage the brakes as you shift and manoeuvrer the boat.

      It's the power turbines spooling up and breaking. The gearbox behind each engine is a crash box, so they cannot be shifted if the input shaft is spinning. There's a disc brake like on a car mounted to the input shaft, which is activated during shifting and when in neutral.

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 2 года назад

      There is no reduction box. There is a power turbine designed to spin at similar rpm as a normal V8, so about 6500 rpm. What ever reduction is there, is just the normal reduction in the drives.
      Your story does not add up. Usually ships that use gas generators as propulsion units, being it engines like the LM1500 or LM2500, don't need a reduction in that magnitude. Heck, even if you drove the prop straight off of the HP shaft which you NEVER do, that would be about 9000 rpm at full chuff. Normally a PT on an LM 1500 and LM2500 spin at about 3000 rpm or so, so in order for a big commercial or naval vessel to achieve useable prop speed at say 150-300 rpm depending on ship size etc. it would only need a 10:1 or 20:1 reduction. If it was a water jet propelled ship, then the PT shaft would go straight to the input shaft of the jet pump without a reduction.

    Al Copeland had a turbine Skater in the early 90s. His had a little gas-powered kicker motor for getting in and out of the harbor. One day they couldn't get the kicker motor stared so they packed up and went home. Refused to go out without a functioning kicker motor.

    I can see now why no one responded to my post on HELL FIRE. Speedy Jeff have you been able to get your boat up to WOT?. actually I don't think you have enough room to get HELLFIRE upto full throttle lake Havasu is only 13 miles long, just 1 more QUESTION did your crew remove the After Burners, I'm actually looking at a Turbine River Racer from New Zealand that will do 140 mph in 4 inches of water and just like your Turbine I'm going to burn E 85 in it. Because I'm not a Rich person.

    Americans and there love of power. I thought the small sport fisherman with 3 giant outboards almost sinking the boat at the stern was enough, then the boat comes out at the end with 5 x 450hp OB. The cat appears to have a pair of conventional engines for slower speed 0:17 and 5:01.Or was that the sound of the engines in the chase boat? What was the electric motors at the end, bow thruster, although sound seemed to come from the rear.

    • @prava163
      @prava163 2 года назад

      To be honest there is a reason boats in the USA have such a huge amount of horsepower... and that is because they travel long distances and don't want to waste their life on the way.
      Also I don't think it has 4 engines. You can't see any bubbles from the exhaust into the water, and those propellers look like other high-speed catamarans that I have seen.

    • @briananthony4044
      @briananthony4044 2 года назад

      @@prava163 The bubbles are clearly visible at 0:20. As is the rumble of the ICE engines, V8s by their sound. The turbines are for hi speed, not for trolling around, they are very inefficient at low speed.

    Chciał bym wiedzieć, jaka refleksja pojawi wam się w głowach, gdy za czterdzieści czy pięćdziesiąt lat, leżąc w jakimś ośrodku pomocy społecznej, kaszląc własną krwią w maskę tlenową, przypomnicie sobie tą wspaniałą maszynę, o mocy trzech tysięcy koni mechanicznych, spalającej paliwo pozyskane z kopalin, którą ci wspaniali inżynierowie stworzyli nie po to aby pokonać nią drogę z punktu A do punktu B, ale jako cel sam w sobie.
    W zasadzie, mam to w dupie,
