I bet its the motor mounts and any dampening associated. Its just amplified through the firewall, think like the skin of a drum. When enough torque the engine pulls tight and sound diminishes, between that you get vibration that translates to your "moan" sound. Or something like that, harmonic balancer?
That’s the sign of having a good mechanic when they know their limits of what they can do and knows when to throw in the towel. A lot of mechanics would be happy to keep tearing the car apart looking over everything all while billing you the entire time and most likely still wouldn’t find the noise. Respect to Wizard for being a great mechanic and for treating his customers fair. I just wish there were more mechanics like him.

It's simply a valve body, and it doesn't have to be in the location of the sound. The sound will resonate to be where it escapes the mass of the engine given the other motor noises that this many-valved engine has to make. Just replace the air intake valve bodies.
I had a vacuum leak in a blow Off Valve in My old STI around the same rpm but only if I was driving up hill. it moaned like a ........ gone as soon as I replaced the BOV, good luck @hooviesGarage

Exactly lol Average male world height is 5' 5", the average height for men in Italy is around 5' 8". 6' 2" is pretty tall when you consider super cars/exotics are supposed to be low/sleek.
@@GoldenCroc By that logic a man 5'3" is not short because hes only 4-5 inches less than average. You dont have to be smaller than Danny Devito to be short and you dont have to be taller than Shaq to be tall.
@@kylehardy7519 Yes, you are correct relative to other people. What I meant, and Hoovie very likely meant was as percentage of the total, in an engineering context. I.e. 5 feet 10 vs 6 feet 2 are only 4 inches taller out of a total of 74. Thats less than 6% taller, so a pretty small increase for a physics/engineering standpoint. Since you already need to design the car to fit a 70 inch person, less than 6% more isnt unfeasible. Hope this clears it up.
@@GoldenCroc I'm sorry you can word it anyway you want but you're wrong. there is one lamborghini aventador 2012 model here in dubai i saw on an ad for 700,000 dirhams which is around 190,000 thousand dollars ,i would say its a pretty big steal ( and the car dealer is a very famous one in dubai that sells the most rarest exotics , so its safe to assume that the aventador is in good condition )
This is why I come here. Not only to see the Wizard’s integrity, also to show us the cost or ownership of the exotics. I always want my cars as close to perfect as possible and while a blast to drive, a Lamborghini would drive me nuts. Keep up the good work.
I had a car that had a moaning sound from the engine bay at certain RPMs. It turned out to be an oil line on the remote filter. I moved the line slightly and it went away.
Hoovie: "I absolutely love this car, it's amazing, I love driving it!" ALSO Hoovie: "The car's battery is dead, because I haven't driven it in over two months....."
Not many people could carry off owning all these iconic cars without coming across as a four-letter word. Hoovie is a unique one-off wonder. We can all relate. And he is best buddies with The Wizard and that can only mean one thing. He has to be a cool dude! This was also a perfect episode, production, quality, and content.
Your "moan" could be in the cooling system as a result of an edie current within the passages at a specific RPM. I've know some dirt track cars with a secondary radiator in the passenger compartment to develop a "hum" while at certain engine speeds. It's probably a flow resonance issue, it depends on how annoying it is to you to want it gone or not.
I see a dozen comments on each video saying what it could be. I feel like the wizard would have already checked many of these systems, and that, try as we may, we can only guess and speculate. That being said these types of comments have helped me figure out what was wrong with my own classic, so I appreciate them a lot.
The fact it happens in a certain rpm range could mean that it's a vibration of something that has a certain resonant frequency. You want to look for any flat sheets of metal or pipe etc. in the area that are in the area the noise is coming from and make sure they are not loose, I'd do the same with any bolted connection too just to be safe.
I agree. When the engine hits the resonant frequency of say a pipe which is very close to a more solid object it will vibrate and touch the object, creating the noise.
I can appreciate that in most cars you would feel the EGR issue but legitimately that sounds like an EGR issue in the exact rpm range of an EGR issue I realize they don’t make sounds but it’s a Lamborghini that sounds exactly like an EGR issue for the exception of it doesn’t stutter.
I love the Countach...maybe because it was my dream car when I was starting to drive. Years ago at a car show I got to talking to someone who was showing one, I told him about my love for the car, he then said that he bet that I wouldn't even be able to fit into the car. I am 6'6" and he was correct, there was no way for me to fit in that driver's seat. You know what they say about never meeting your idols.
I stopped growing at ~6’3 just before sophomore year of high school. It took a few years to realize how grateful I should be that I can still (usually) find shoes/ clothes/ cars that fit me. If I were any bigger, most of the dream cars I wanted to buy would either not fit me period or be so uncomfortable they’d be hard to enjoy. Somebody needs to make a line of super cars for full sized people instead of 5’5 munchkins lol.
First world problem: "My Lambo moans and it's sooooooo annoying". Love Hoovies videos. The interaction between Hoovie and the Wizzard keeps me coming back.
As a kid I was largely content with Lamborghini posters on my walls... as a grown up (is that what I am?) I'm content watching you drive, service, and lament/celebrate the quirks of owner/stewardship. Thanks for your service Hoovie!
I wouldn't. I'd rather have a collection of running Porsche 911s. Cars are only fun if you can drive them, and drive them without fear of losing your first born due to expensive and repeated mechanical failure. These are investment cars, collectible trinkets, not drivers cars.
almost every lambo owner i've met said they pretty much rarely drive it unless they are going to the mechanic or gas station and there's that ONE week its running PERFECT!
Your intake is probably getting some sort of Helmholtz resonance effect. I've heard it on a couple JDM inline sixes make that sound. The Diablo is two inline sixes. I think it's the longer intake plenums that cause it. I have a Toyota 7m that started making that sound after I switched to a front facing intake manifold.
@@five12man I actually just talked to my friend who said he had some moaning noise on a Honda with Skunk manifold. Seems like short runners and big pelnum gets a moan and groan somewhere in the rpm band.
That Diablo is in my top 3 favorite bodies ever. Targa top, and the way they did it on that body, it looks AMAZING, better than any other Diablo style...
Suggestion regarding the moaning sound: strap the car to a chassis dyno and hold it in the specific RPM range under light load. Remove the hood and climb on top of the car. If it’s not an exhaust issue it could be a resonance issue in the intake. Hoovie, I’m still waiting to hear back from you to take care of your super bee issues with the cooling and properly tuning your EFI!
I'd hazard a guess that there's a gasket somewhere on the intake side that's ever so slightly misaligned and buzzing at the specified engine speed range. I had that happen on a car once. Drove me nuts.
With cars that require a lot of maintenance it is job security for the Wizard and content security for you. It is a win win no matter what kind of car it is.
@carwizard, the sound could be an interference frequency from a sheetmetal part. If the engine is operating at a certain rpm and a chassispart has it’s own frequency in the same range it could start vibrating. I have had this experience in my past with steel contructions as well. For example when operating a vibratory screen at 16 Hz we have to take care at designing sheetmetal panels too big. I have seen supportbeams moving 1/2” just by this sound. I have seen a complete building working as a bass. The way to solve this is changing the dimension of the beams or panels. Shortening length or adding braces will change the natural to a higher Hz. Basically getting this natural frequency of the construction out of the frequency range of the engine and drivetrain. You could also add sound dampening material to the sheetmetal in that area. This adds mass resulting an change of frequency.
It's a good time to buy an aventador IMO. Wait a year or so for the market to plateau and that should also coincide with an aventador price lull before their eventual appreciation trajectory over the next 10+ years
That flashback just reminded me that I've that I've been watching you for years now! I helped pay for a few of those cars lol. You do not have to buy supercars that's going to cost 10s of thousands to repair, we'd watch your channel even if you bought an old Oldsmobile Aura. It's the entertainment value and your personality that keeps me watching.
I would agree. There is definitely a “RUclips formula” for many of these Vloggers. Stradman has done a very good job staying ahead of the curve. You could see him buy and modify all of the “latest and greatest” just at the right time to ride the wave of popularity. From the Supra when it was new, to the Corvette and Gladiator, his timing was impeccable. I like Stradman but I think his channel needs that to survive and prosper. Hoovie, on the other hand, has a totally different vibe. Kinda reminds me of one of my favorite shows Wheeler Dealers. A love of anything on wheels, in its pure and unmodified form, with an awesome mechanic Ed ( which is our Wizard) to work on it! Hoovie can buy a Pinto and a Gremlin and I would still LOVE watching.
"This is a car from 1989, not 1960." Keep in mind, though, it's from late in the Countach's production run. It's really a car from 1974, and the prototype was unveiled in 1971. (Heck, if you want to chase it back even farther, the basic body shape comes from the Lancia Stratos Zero concept, which was... what? 1969?) NIH data on immigrants to the US in 1970 suggests that the average Italian male born circa 1950 was around 5'6" as a young adult, so... there you go. (Yeah, I actually researched that. It's a slow Friday afternoon. :)
I THINK I KNOW WHATS WRONG WITH THE DIABLO!!!! I think Wizard is right about it sounding like a clarinet reed, because it’s probably the TXV pintle sticking. Try turning the AC off when the noise comes back around.
oooo....as a glorified PC repair man for the manufacturing industry, I like fault finding ideas such as this Although, it leads me to wonder, just exactly how you reasoned this fault finding step? 🤔
@@weedfreer just hearing the noise sounds like something that is vibrating at an extremely high frequency. That makes me think about the components on a car that vibrate. Then components that vibrate and are attached to engine RPM. Then components that vibrate, attached to RPM, and are near the fire wall leads me to this as a guess. Couple that along with the conditions that the noise starts. Hoovie didn’t notice it until it started to warmup outside, and he (I’m assuming) started using the AC again. These are old Italian cars and little components like a TXV that aren’t used and lubricated often can start sticking and make this type of noise.
I have the same whine in my 330d when the AC is on and I’m at a certain RPM. Goes away with the AC off. Obviously very different cars and issues probably aren’t interchangeable but it is an interesting thought.
5:05 He should probably replace the seats with a custom made pair bucket seats and keep the originals in storage for a later day when / if he decides to sell it. That would sort the issue 🙂
Would prob be pretty expensive plus it would ruin the look of the car. Just lean back and slouch is the move IMO. If he drove it every day then it’d prob be worth it but realistically he’s prob spending less than a few hour a month in it I’d imagine
Been looking forward to this one! I love the Capristo full headers and valved exhaust on my Cayman S. Rowdy when you want it to be, civilized when you need it to be.
That sound is coming from the de-coupling ionizing sectionised pludainum overtransactors. it just need adjusting to the counter clockwise using the new Rockwell Turbo encabulator.
HOOVIE PLEASE READ! I know this is a car but I had this experience on a natural gas pipeline transmission engine. I spent 6 months trying to diagnose the gear box/noise and it was what they call a “soft foot”. Since the foundation was cracked, it allowed for the gearbox to obtain a harmonic. This is what caused the humming noise. Gears were good and I aligned them but since the foundation was “soft” it would allow a frequency to pass causing a resonance. We had to fix the foundation, cad no issues afterwards. Now my point, check all of the bushings, which I am sure you have but think about changing bushing materials at the mounts (including exhaust and transmission). If you already have, tell the Wizard to by a potentiometer to measure the vibration at various spots. If it is caused by a mount you can see if it is a function of the RPM (I.e., the frequency will match the RPM frequency). If it is, then it is a mount somewhere. If not, likely some type of vacuum or seal leak. Message me if you like but this has been a subject that I have investigated a few times.
@@patrickradcliffe3837 don't think that would create such a frequency. They should install some mic near the gearbox. And then filter multiple sound frequencies.
The orange Murciélago continues to be my favorite. I'd sell the other two, especially the Countach since Hoovie is too tall to fit in it. Ford GT? yes please!
That’s the joy of owning a car like that, is a “special” car. It’s not for a “novice” you should appreciate the opportunity to be one of the select few. And proud to have the responsibility, that’s what defines a true connoisseur . The headaches are apart of the joy if you’re really into it.
The "moaning" could be an incorrect adjustment in one of the valves so it's not seating fully, and that's why you hear the whistlings sort of sound, probably one of the front cylinders where the wizard located the noise, a leak test on the cylinder with compressed air could serve as a diagnosis
CLD type sound deadeners wouldn't be particularly effective against a sound like that. They tend to work better at adding mass and lowering the resonant frequency of a panel, and absorbing very high frequency vibrations in that panel. It would likely need a mass loaded vinyl, decoupled from the panel itself to block the noise.
This video just made me smile so much because I know I was here for all of that. Tyler is like that friend who does dumb stuff and you just watch them and life vicariously through them

Timing belt/chain harmonics under load, that's where I would look Try disconnecting injector and see if it moves the harmonic at rpm range. It could be a gear droning in the front cover as well, possibly oil pump. I have seen oil pressure regulators make a Humm when they are producing slightly more overpressure than regulator/bypass valve is opening, then you get a continuous series of cliicks that makes a Humm. Replace engine oil to change viscosity and see if it moves the drone range. Try an oil thickener like Lucas, if it doesn't effect anything, your only out oil. Injector disconnect may give you a code or 5 but only out a computer reset.

I _love_ that little Porsche Spyder replica. Sadly, it's out of my price range, especially for something so impractical. It's a race car from an era when a barebones race car with lights (necessary for endurance racing, anyway) was capable of being an acceptable road car, both legally and in terms of buyer acceptance of the un-weather-protected driving experience. And here's a thing: Lamborghini Muira was _not_ the first mid-engine production sports car. The Spyder (1955) was a mid-engine Porsche production car, and not the only one from that era! There were the Spyder, RS60, 904 Carrera, and 906 Carrera. Even the 908 Le Mans prototypes were _technically_ the last road-legal 'production cars' to race for an overall win at Le Mans, if I am not mistaken (1967-69, beaten by the Ford GTs). There was also the Alfa-Romeo 333 Stradale (1967), but I digress. Anyway, Hoovie's Spyder would make a kickass pure sports car, for times and places where that works. But, I'm going to setup a Miata with manual steering, I think. Somehow I'll have to make room for my 6'1" self in that little car, potentially behind a biggish steering wheel.
Beautiful Lamborghinis there Tyler, you have awesome vehicles .. I always wanted a Countach. So much so My Dad once bought me one, it was the Hot Wheels version 😂... Judging by the moaning noise it could also be a warped exhaust manifold, bad gasket or block mating surface. It will sound like a clarinet reed noise as you described. Under normal idle or driving the exhaust manifold is fine but during acceleration like between 2000 to 3000 rpm's the exhaust manifold or gasket will temporarily leak high pressure air creating this noise. The leak is probably at the back of the engine top passenger side exhaust tube. If the noise happens more when the engine is warmed up I would say the manifold is deforming just enough to leak past the gasket, once it cools down it goes back to normal... I had a similar issue on my late Father's L98 Corvette. This seems to occur where there is little to no airspace around the exhaust manifold, the manifold essentially gets overheated and either cracks or deforms....
the moan could also be a slight defect in a chunk of metal in the intake that catchs the wind blowing thru it or a gasket that has to much on the inside. If you have not noticed most cars have that one spot around 1500-2500 rpm that either makes a noise or vibrates the car which is often the balance on the crankshaft
You are forgetting, Tavarish has activated the cheat code for the Murciélago, it can't set a trouble light if it only sits in a museum

Well that’s amazing!! Thanks for that gem.

Hope he picks up on your observations. It's either that or just a general resonance issue with panels or heat shields, mounting of accessories etc.
Could be Intake related. Induction noise. Vacuum leak.
My guess power steering pump .
YES
can also install sound deaden materials.
All Lambo's are somewhat broken unless it's brand new.
This I agree with.... How is he dumb??? He has how many cool cars ? And he gets to drive them all time if he wants...
Now they really are just for looks. Should've invested in cars that actually make power.
I bet thats the issue. They would have found a mechanical issue
I have to agree, induction noises resonate like crazy. Even on an I4 you get things like that with an aftermarket intake. Sweet ride tho 😎

Dyno would be a great way to find it
Yeah someone needs to port the intake a bit just to be sure

@@EPYCMX it might only happen during load. I haven’t followed the whole progress.
I love the Countach, but if you can find a hooptie Ford GT you should do it
@carwizard, the sound could be an interference frequency from a sheetmetal part.
Try turning the AC off when the noise comes back around.
oooo....as a glorified PC repair man for the manufacturing industry, I like fault finding ideas such as this
Although, it leads me to wonder, just exactly how you reasoned this fault finding step?
My mother in law makes terrible moaning noises when we turn the AC Off.
@bruh meme that’s the thing the TXV is a mechanical device especially on such an old vehicle.

Tyler. That moan is definitely the Henweigh.
That noise could actually be something related with the flywheel pilot bearing. Creating the sound while it isn't loaded with the engine torque.
I was leaning more towards something in the intake plumbing.
@@patrickradcliffe3837 don't think that would create such a frequency. They should install some mic near the gearbox. And then filter multiple sound frequencies.
I liked the idea of the oil thermostat, which would explain the noise when the engine’s hot.

There's only joy in pain if you're a masochist.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH You missed the point, the repairs are nothing and are meaningless if the automobile is what you really and truly want.
The "moaning" could be an incorrect adjustment in one of the valves so it's not seating fully, and that's why you hear the whistlings sort of sound, probably one of the front cylinders where the wizard located the noise, a leak test on the cylinder with compressed air could serve as a diagnosis
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT SELL the Diablo and Countach. Sell the Murcielago. The other two are classics and you will regret selling them
I wonder if installing Dynamat or similar to the panel between engine and cabin could dampen the sound?
That’s the same thing I was wondering.

Try disconnecting injector and see if it moves the harmonic at rpm range.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD... ONLY $250K FOR THE DIABLO AND THE COUNTACH!!! Yeah, that's a steal. Both of those cars are worth keeping, even if they're only kept for staring at with admiration.
And here's a thing:
Lamborghini Muira was _not_ the first mid-engine production sports car.
Extremely fortunate to have the problems you have . Congrats on the success of your channel stay humble
Sell it and get a 05/06 Ford GT. You love it and you deserve it! You've worked hard. That's a forever car.
