  • After getting my Jaguar XJS V12 started, I found the engine was smoking from the rear. With the half moon seals being the main suspect, it was time to peel back the 5.3L V12 and make some changes.

    This was a brilliant video.
Did you enjoy the driving xjs ? I think it's on ebay at the time of writing this comment

Thank you very much! Yes I loved driving it, it had an air of cool looking down the massive bonnet. It got looks everywhere. Ooh do you have a link? I can’t seem to find it!

I've got to do this too, thanks for the video.
Did you also remove all the vacuum BS and 15 minute timer etc?

I did indeed, hard to tell if it made a difference because the car had other issues which I think was due to the sump tank being blocked

So are those rubber injector hoses just a push fit? Seems strange. Anyway the jaguar v12 engines have trouble with everything in the valley getting very hot , so possibly that may have caused an issue with spark plugs, also are plugs the correct heat range? While you have everything off give dizzy cap and rotor arm a thorough check, the bob weights seize in the dizzy, and the ignition amplifier gets cooked. Can you reach the bango bolt from below, with vehicle on lift, I rebuilt a jaguar v12 e-type engine, and can't recall having issues with Banjo bolts

Yes they push on, impossible to pull back off! All good info. Impossible to reach from below, quite a difficult job, wouldn’t fancy doing again!

Did you replace the plug wires? Looks like the pulse is arcing up the ceramic on the plug which would be a misfire problem. Might the plug gap be too big? The signal from the distributor is going to take the path of least resistance. Another note abut the access to the back of the block, my Dad's E-Type V12 had to have the engine partially removed to service the back spark plugs.

I did replace the wires when I originally changed the plugs. My feeling is that the car isn’t timed correctly, when the mechanic did it is was done at idle. I’ve been told they should be done at 3k rpm. I’ll check plug gap when installing new ones. Luckily the only hard to get to plugs on the XJS is the front 2. All you’ve got to do is loosen the ac belt, undo 4 bolts and lift the compressor a bit.

@@JAYPCARS engineers always have to find a way to screw with the mechanics.🤣

EU banned akk gas cars from 2030 on and in German Green Peoples Party banned all classic cars from public streets@@JAYPCARS

As far as I’m aware the ban is only on sale of new cars, so you can still drive everything manufactured up until then.

You cant use any Jag V12 because they drop valve seats!

Plenty out there being used still, how much money that’s been put into them I can’t comment 😂

Probably why so many are still around after 50 years. If I heard anything about them, it is not about dropping valve seals. But what do I know, I just own one
