HOW TO FIX A FAILED FUEL PUMP ON A RANGE ROVER L322

I had my first breakdown in my Range Rover L322, luckily nothing major, just one of the fuel pumps. This fuel pump is the easiest to get to as it is behind a flap on the underside of the car, in front of the rear passenger side wheel. MY MUMS CAR GETS A SURPRISE DETAIL!
Lovely stuff! Glad to see the more class and less chav!
It’s certainly looking better 👍🏻
No rattles at all in my S4B9
From what I’ve seen online people seem to sit on one side or the other regarding this. Where are you in the world?
Much better without the carbon. That thing on the door handle is a button mate. I think it's something to do with keyless entry.
Ah thought it was an IR sensor!
Try to find w220 wheels as they use m14 too. Difda wheels will look nice on the cl imo. Good job
Thanks 🙏🏻
Or segin wheels that they were mounting on 600 V12 but they are 17" there is a set on eBay going cheap
I’ll take a look 👀
Which code reader do you use ?? Is it any good for general work on cars
I use the Autel MaxiCom MK808BT - think it was the 2023 model. They have the 2024 model here: amzn.to/3NvLSwJ. It does pretty much everything I've ever needed it to do!
You’ll need bolt on spacer with m12 studs. Try buying wheels off new Merc’s 2008 onwards apart from the clk there m12.
Thanks for the info 🙏🏻🙏🏻
CL is looking way better now fella. Get some nice 19s on it, the monoblocks suit older shape Benzes, my opinion but you do you!
Thanks! Yes it’s certainly better. I agree they suit older ones but I think this could work, when I work out how to make them fit!
@@JAYPCARS the monoblocks will work a treat on that Coupe, it has the clasic lines, cant wait to see them on it :) Surley its just a m14 to m12 screw adaptor and then buy the m12 concave nuts ?
I’ll take a look into it, I think it’ll look 💯
hilarious and entertaining...keep it up lad
Thank you 🙏🏻
This is why all £650 L332’s are at least £2650 in reality - they always need a gearbox. But then of course the suspension breaks, so that’s £3650. Then you have to have the rusty arches welded and painted. And the tailgate where the rear wiper has leaked fluid into it for 20 years. £5500. Then you have to fix the electrical gremlins of which there will be about 15. £5650. Then you’re golden… for at least a month before you start over. And of course getting your RR into a specialist takes weeks of waiting too, because all the other Range Rovers in your area are also broken, so you’ll have to buy another car for the months that its off the road. Never has a vehicle been so great and so utterly vile at the same time.
To be fair to it, I did buy it nearly 2 years ago and it’s been pretty good until now. Owes me around £1100 now with the latest parts that have been ordered. But apart from everything you mentioned it’s all good fun, right 🤥😂
@@JAYPCARS Well what can I say? You are winning! And yes, they are bloody brilliant, even when they do rob you blind. Despite past experience, I’d buy another 😂, but never any other generation - these are peak RR in my mind. Good work and good luck
Thanks 🙏🏻 Winning for now! 😂
I just replaced about every front suspension component on my Mercedes, a few were just as "pristine" the ones on your Rover.😂
Haha they seem to get so torn up!
In your socket set you have the taller sockets.. it's better to use that one as it has a higher ceiling for the bolt and won't touch the hose connectors and break them 😊
Thanks for the advice!
My front left reads the same. Not a clue why but think that's why my steering gets stiff quick
I think I’m going to change my sensor on that corner and see if anything changes. My steering doesn’t seem to have any problem though.
@JAYPCARS as soon as mine rolls you feel it tighten. No speed it's light. I assume it's speed related. Could be just the reader
Could be, worth checking 👍🏻
Whete can i find that front bumper?
I’m sure it was a Zender kit, rare from what I’ve heard.
@@JAYPCARS thank you
You’re welcome 👍🏻
One of the joys of owning an Audi i found out the hard way. My previous BMW E90 arms where not this complex. I did these arms over several weekends. The upper pinch bolt was frozen so got local garage to heat and losen the bolt. The balljoint on the lower curved arm was the most painfull job ever...it just would not move. I did not completely remove the heat shield...just the lower 10mm and middle 13mm was enough to get the bolt out. I noticed you did not raise the suspension before torque the bushes...maybe you did them off camera :)
Yes the punch bolts are the worst for most people, luckily mine had been only put in a few months prior to the job. Yes torqued under load, don’t always catch everything on camera unfortunately, usually in a rush to get back home to bed 😂
i have the same year and its been sitting over a good three years
Oh no! Haven’t got around to it?
Range roger?😭
You’re the first out of 20,000 people to notice, I didn’t even notice 😭😭😭
Been there, don't bother 😢 when these boxes are gone, they're not coming back short of ££££
I don’t want to give it up 😪
When I bought my 01 X5 10 years ago it had tranny shudder. I changed the fluid twice and added Dr Tranny. It fixed it for 8yrs until it went bang and lost drive. Then I had a 2k transmission rebuild..
The teeth 😬 and range rover combo 😂
May as well move to Essex to complete the look?
Grandad wanted that money back
💯 he wanted OUT
Great channel 😂😂😂😂 much better than that PRxxK mat Armstrong 😂😂😂😂 keep up the good work mate
Appreciate it 💪🏻
When the annual road tax is more expensive than the actual car😂
This is pre 05 so it’s £415 instead of £700 odd 😂😮💨
So neither of you want it, and neither of you want to let it go
Decisions!
Hi I rebuilt these transmission. A shudder after 40mph is mostly all the time torque converter lockup clutch badly worn. The long you drive or use the car with this fault it will eventually damage transmission oil pump . A central propshaft bearing issue usually shudder much earlier than 40mph . The difference between the two . Is almost spot on torque converter lock up at 40 mph .
Thanks for the info! How hard is it to drop the gearbox and fix the TC? My feeling is that it’s the TC. Usually at 50mph this happens but only in 5th.
We've been reconditioned these transmission for years now . Remove from vehicle take me about 3 hours out of all the other transmission we do this is easier to move . A transmission Jack is best . For just replacing torque converter you can usually remove both gearbox and transfer together . Just be very careful when fitting replacement . Fit into gearbox first makes sure to turn it around to fully seat it . Then fit complete unit back to car . There are 3 torque converter bolts 17mm you take them out to remove refit when fitting though a Access hole just under turbocharger tin plate . Never fit torque converter to flywheel first . This will damage pump . J
Perfect, thanks John! Will do some more research and it may well be a DIY job!
Big huw appearing 😂😂
Just snuck right in there
Huw Edwards 😂
What, where, I didn’t see him 🤥
Why would you voluntarily endure the suffering of owning a range rover? 😂
I have mental issues
Torque converter lock up clutch slipping causing a shudder. Sometimes on a worn out transmission actually gets worse with new oil as the worn out components don’t allow the TCM to re-adapt
That’s a good shout, I thought it felt worse the first time around. Now it’s not that bad but still feels off and has 5th shudder, just not quite as bad.
@@JAYPCARS the shudder fix will definitely give some improvement but won’t cure the issue if it’s too far gone. I work for Bristol Transmissions. Pop it down for a road test and I’ll be able to tell you for sure if it’s a converter issue 👍🏼
I’m in Cornwall so quite a way unfortunately!
When i say the headline i was thinking did p diddy buy a l322
Damn no chill
That was a nice offer for a free gearbox! But tbh your gearbox will be fine it’s the torque converters that fail! It’s not worth fitting a second hand torque converter either it’s just a false economy as you don’t know how long that will last either! If the gearbox if being removed you have to fit a reconditioned torque converter which has better plates which should last another 200k miles!!
It was wasn’t it! Any idea how hard the torque converter fitting is?
@@JAYPCARS I have done 2 now with my friend on a ramp, not too bad a job tbh. No specialist tools needed.
Good to know 👍🏻
20 minute vids req 👍👍👍
Prefer the 20 minute uploads? 😃
I tried the same stuff in my old 200k V70 T5 that shuddered and suffered with hilariously hesistant changes. It transformed the autobox instantly & the shuddering stopped and changes were imiroved tremendously after a good run. It did deteriorate again after a few months. But, tbh, it had 220k on the clock, the car was very tired & the box was utterly knackered.
Wow good to know it works! Difficult for me to know whether it’s the new fluid or the additive, but overall feels nicer to change and pretty smooth. Love a V70! At least you got a few months out of it, for £20 can’t complain!
Got this exact problem on my Audi Q5 at the moment… asked about on the forums and people think it’s the drive shaft coupling/prop shaft bearing or CV joints worn. Other comments said about engine mounts
There’s been a few saying about prop shaft, so that’ll be my next job to look at! Thanks for sharing 😃
Search L322 propshaft bearing replacement. I've done it on my Discovery it's a job to do it but cheaper than a propshaft if you persevere 😊
Will do 👍🏻 Thanks John!
Hi Jay, I think the comment on the propshaft joint is the middle bearing. It's behind the heat shield. It's a bearing in a rubber mounted carrier. The rubber disintegrates and allows the propshaft to wobble around in the carrier. It's the same on Discovery 3 and 4. As far as gearbox oil change on these the symptoms are usually that the revs fluctuate and it feels like it's slipping. A full gearbox flush is the way to go when that happens. There's about 13 litres of oil and a service like you did only replaces about 4 litres at best. Hope that helps.
I will take a look next time I’m under it, thanks for the info! If it is that at least it’s something else to give a go 💪🏻 No rev fluctuation and haven’t noticed any slipping as far as I’m aware. Ok I’ve done it twice over now so maybe 8 at best 😂
Ya i am very interested in these videos as i really want a l322 but so torn sell my reliable 2014 sport or buy the car i chickened out of buying as i thought it was to bigger a car for just me a l405
They can be pretty cheap so you could always buy a cheap L322, keep your current car and see how you get on with it? You’ll know whether it’s worth going for the L322 then 😄
You need to sort out the steering and suspension joints, this is a death trap waiting to happen. Great video on a positive note though.
Yes the bushes are totally shot so have been ordered, will install them on the next instalment. Thanks for watching!
I have a good used gearbox out of an L322 of the same year and model as yours but with very low mileage you can have if you want to collect it from Gloucestershire?
Wow that’s quite the offer! Appreciate it, it would certainly come in handy with the way mine is looking. If you could message me on instagram @jaypcars so we could chat that would be great 😄
@JAYPCARS You will have to bear with me as I'm not techno savvy! I will download Instagram and make an account then get in touch towards the weekend as I'm really busy weekdays! If that's ok? Regards, John 👍
Hi John, no worries at all! If it’s easier for you my email address is jaypearn@googlemail.com. Saves you having to join instagram!
Sorry iv not been in touch, I'm up to my eyebrows with work related stress at the moment but rest assured I will contact you! 👍
No worries at all, look after yourself 👍🏻
You would feel those worn front bushes through the steering and brakes rather than the gearbox.
Yes you’re right, nothing through brakes at the moment but steering can be an issue and seems to be getting worse.
@@JAYPCARS it could also be something out of balance or those tyres.
After doing the bushes I’ll get the tyres on, balanced and tracked and see how it all is. Currently looking at tyres and trying to work out which are best 🙏🏻
16MPG. Is that with you trying to be economical, or do you put your foot down a lot?
No matter what I do, I can’t seem to get it above that. Town and B-road driving mainly 😦
@@JAYPCARSdoes the engine get up to temperature? Mine kept running cool so took the viscous fan out and hasn’t overheated at all
Yes gets up to temp as expected, haven’t noticed anything off
this worked on my b9 s5 - thanks for posting this!
Glad it helped 👍🏻
stupid subtitles all the way through spoil it
Videos I put out with subtitles perform better than those without, thanks for watching and giving feedback though 👍🏻
In reality, it’s more like a 5 hour job if you know what you’re doing‼️👈👀
Who told you 5 hours :O
Are the #1A and #1B injectors longer than the rest? I just got a new set and all 12 are the same. Like a dummy I destroyed all 12 of the old ones before checking.
The injectors themselves? I think it’s just the hoses that are longer from what I remember.
What pressurise bottle are you using please
Hi, it’s in the description 😁
You won me over at the “thought someone was behind me then” 😂 nice vid mate, subscribed 🇬🇧😉
😂😂 Thanks, appreciate it 😄
You want coupe tubes dr tranny shudder fix, works wonders. Eps if it’s the converter lock Up.
Ordered :D
Nice and enjoyable video! You got a new subscriber. ;) Kinda wanting (again) to get a similar l322 and I use it as a daily driver during the wintertime here in Norway. Always liked the look of the first gen with the square headlights. For me a l322 in bonatti grey, tan interior and with the alloys you have on yours, would be my preferable look. Great video! - Magnus
Hi Magnus, thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for subscribing, appreciate it. If you fancy it, go for it! 💪🏻 I prefer the square headlights too. Nice choice of spec.
Should of put some doctor tranny in while you done it
Zero chance a Range Rover will ever be in my future, sorry Mark.🤣 I think owning one in the US just adds too much complexity. Hope you got it all sorted. Also, I'm now all caught up.😎
They aren’t that bad 🤥 Hmm, not quite sorted yet 😅 Good job, thanks for the support 💪🏻
