Love Morten’s voice in this song, it’s really quite breathtakingly beautiful. “It makes me feel so alive” when he sings those words, his voice just feels so caressing and warm and when when he sings “I’m coming home” too. Morten duets with Anneli Drecker again who he has a real musical rapport with and who featured on the previous album in a couple of songs & accompanied the band on tour regularly during the early 2000s. Written by Mags & Morten, Morten wasn’t entirely happy with the version that ended up on the album describing it as a soppy ballad …but Anneli said “it’s a soppy ballad but a very lovely soppy ballad”. There is another slightly different version which is on the deluxe version of the Lifelines album…called the Langer & Winstanley mix. I love both versions, and think both versions work equally well.
I have tried, but this is one I can’t do. I love Anneli’s voice with his other times. Here though, their tones don’t match up to me for some reason. I like the version in the extra’s with just Morten singing and Pål and Magne in the background. Where they all have more of a raspy tone. I listen to that instead. Sorry 🙈🙃

It was evident from the minor earth major sky album that the onstage rapport between Morten Harket and Anneli Drecker who duetted on the I Widh I Cared track was high and at some point the two should attempt to translate some of the chemistry to the recording studio. Turn down the lights appeared to be the perfect fit for the pair, but Morten - who described some of t(is al um asa bit of a shipwreck was once again unhappy with the end result, labelling the song a ‘soppy ballad’. I think this song is quite nice to listen to. Different fans of A-HA have different feelings about it. It’s one of those songs that can split an audience everyone has different tastes and songs by A-HA so I’m interested in what you think of it. It has a very country song vibe. I really, really love this track. Nice cool vibe and no particular dark edge to it (surprised me to no end). I really love the 'lights on/lights off' play that happens in this. Anneli Drecker is always wonderful and the voices play really well together. She's a recording artist in her own right and frequent vocalist on stage with the guys live tours.
This is really good song and one of the highlights of the album for me: lovely melody and composition. The chorus soars and female vocals and harmonies are perfect.
Another "low point" on this record for me, though I do appreciate Morten's voice (as always) and a few particular moments, like that middle part you pointed out, ending on "Where we began". But here comes Anneli duetting with Morten again, and I am really not fond of female voices, much less when they "hide" Morten's. 😛 Just a personal thing. Anyway, as many fans have said over the years, we love hearing Morten, whatever he sings (or says, because we also live his speaking voice 😉), he could be reciting the yellow pages that we would listen. 🤣 Again, have a-happy birthday! 🎉
I am with you. I mean, I have liked Anneli’s voice with his other times, but it makes me cringe here. I have to agree with the “shipwreck”. Their voices just don’t go together here at all to me. Don’t know if it’s their tones, the music, all of it. Yikes…I have to skip it. So far out of all the duets I have heard with women and Morten, I have only liked the girl who sang “The Sun Always Shines on tv” with the Unplugged concert. I guess to me, he just has such a distinct voice that seems hard to match with women. Or maybe I am too picky 😂😂

Funny, the only duet I like is on the MTV album, too, but it's not TSASOTV. It's I've Been Losing You. I really don't like female voices, with a few rare exceptions.

And in fact, I've been told for most of my life that I look younger than I am, going all the way back to when I was in my early 20s (strangers would think I was still a sophomore or junior in high school until I was in my late 20s, lol). I suppose I'll take it while it lasts, though I must say, I think my ginger days are numbered---winter is ever-so-gradually coming.
