I don't do huge sessions...makes me overwhelmed! I declutter each week while I am cleaning in that zone. I have done so much decluttering the past 5 years that it only takes a few minutes to go through cabinets and drawers.
I used to go for the method where I spent hours decluttering but now I enjoy 15 or 30 min more now. Sometimes I don't have the time or energy to do hours of decluttering!
I have to do a massive 2 day declutter marathon so I can let in furnace guy and handyman without feeling mortified by my mess. Even though I'm sure they've seen worse, I've been putting this off for months. I live alone, so only myself to blame. I work a lot and have adhd, but it still seems ridiculous to be over fifty and live in chaos. Other people manage much more than this!
Other people who have brains that work much differently than those OF us with ADHD;) When I think about how much time I procrastinate silently willing myself to get my ass up and just do the things... It kills me.
We have grown kids coming to live in our basement for a season, that was the kickstart we needed to purge like crazy, still more to do but it feels so good
I'm mostly in the maintenance mode of my journey but once in a while I'll come across a little pocket of clutter, maybe a drawer I forgot about etc. I keep a box in the closet and any time I see something extra and unneeded, I'll add it to my donations. It's a challenge with 5 people in our house with different interests and levels of clutter-comfort but the areas that are up to me are under control (not bare bones minimalism). My kids (20, 18 and 13) are pretty good about the one in-one out rule and have been known to remind me that something I'm thinking of buying from the thrift store will only become clutter!
So I just spend a year and a few months, declutter my whole house😉, it was Crazy!! It as been about 2 months since then. Crazy you posted this video today, I had this feeling of needing to do it Again. So I decided to take 10/15 minutes a day to start Decluttering again . Today I started in my wardrobe, there doesn’t seem to be as much of a rush this time as when I started the first time, and honestly seem/ feels a little Fun! Guess it just, because I know it Not needed , just want to do it!
I’m done with my decluttering journey also & am in maintenance mode, I love not having so much stuff. I also do pantry & freezer cooking when my food needs decluttering.
I like to do huge sections. Loved the KonMari method but I don’t have a whole lot of stuff to declutter anymore so I just check the drawer or cabinet whenever I get into it. It takes me about 4 to 5 months to get a box of donations. I would love to get my hands on Hubby’s stuff but he doesn’t want to declutter. Now I’m focusing on cleaning and small repairs. So far I really suck at it but I keep trying.
Your “decluttering in October” inspired me to start this weekend! I did two large trash bags of old pans, beyond cleanable/ripped oven mitts and towels. Donated kitchen utensils and nice towels that I had too many of. Then found expired medicine and vitamins 😮😮 I then moved to the hallway linen closet. I was kinda surprised things came back into this space. Umm 🤔
I also do little bits here and there. I keep a box by the entry, and as I go about my daily routines, if i come across an item I am not using, it goes in the box. I go through clothing seasonally when I change out my capsule items. And once a year, I go through the office and utility drawers. Because my home got deeply decluttered years ago, it's easy to tackle an area in 5 minutes. If I open a cabinet and can't immediately find what I am looking for, I take the time to make it function better. A quick organize and declutter now will help me later.
I just completed a 5-minute, 5-things challenge each day in September. I’m glad to have this October challenge to continue to exercise my declutter muscles! Thank you!
When it comes to medication, I go through the medicine cabinet thoroughly at the beginning of each season, as it helps make sure we have what we need for said season. And just like you, I like to declutter here and there rather than for hours on end. I don't want to be overwhelmed.
I like to declutter one section/area at a time, I might work an hour, or all day just how the day is going. I like the idea of once done with a room come back and do it again, and see what more you can get rid of
It's really helpful to use drawer dividers to have a better overview over the items in your drawers. I'm very happy with mine, nothing falls around any more but is kept in place.
Thanks for your encouragement! Yes, I’ll join your challenge a few days each week. I did a lot of decluttering last week… and now I must load it all up to donate it to finally free up the space
I can't do 15 min each day because any 15 minutes I am free I always have something more important to do! 1 weekend every 3 months workes better for us because having NO air conditioning I would update my wardrobe too often.... weather it's so unpredictable. I also find this plans better my expenses , because that way, I wait to shop the week AFTER the session, so I delay shopping, and I truly only buy what t we need. I also stretch food much more😅
My husband just retired last month. Now I’m trying to analyze what may not be use anymore. It’s hard to know how long do I wait to make those decisions?
I just started watching your videos to get inspired for my declutter journey. One thing I find maddening is that your Amazon link goes straight to US Amazon….no option for those of us in Canada. I follow several channels that originate in Canada and the same issue exits. No links to Canadian Amazon. 😢
Thank you for the inspiration, Robyn. I am following the 30 day declutter plan with decluttering 1 thing on day 1 and 2 on day 2 and so on… i keep getting interrupted with storm prep tho 🥴 if I miss a day or two or ten, I just start with the number of items the same as the date of my restart (ex: 15 items on day 15).
I made two videos recently about paperwork and photos... and then i decided after showing them that they needed decluttering, addressing and sorting. Does that ever happen to you? Managed to downsize by 1/4 and declutter 15 of the 100 ish photos.
I love it, let’s go over the rules. There are no rules! You are amazing!

I like this idea!

Yay, I'm happy to see your video in the playlist too!

I’m in the maintenance portion of my decluttering journey. So, depending on my mood, I will declutter a certain area or drawer. 😊
I'm in maintenance mode but I still usually take a look around for items not being used each day. Keeps the household inventory low and manageable.
Declutter on days and weekends when free to do so…I love organising

I go through items, usually monthly, to check for anything that's expired. I do decluttering at least once a week.
Lol. I've always wanted a spring pan. It could be keeping the bundt pan!!!!
❤️ 👌🏼

I like to do both long sessions taking half a day and also small 10-20 minutes ones.

Uncle Crumpet is adorable with the kittens ❤ 10:07

Happy to be doing this October challenge. So far decluttered a few kitchen cupboards this past week. Sooo much Tupperware!!!
I really like my GLASS cutting boards. ❤️
I've always wondered about those. How are they on your knives?
@@MinimalistHome hmmmm… my knife is NO GOOD. Could that be the culprit? Hadn’t thought about it.
I am a nurse at the hospital less now. Need to clean out scrubs. Also our Yetis and that type thing multiply like rabbits. Lol .

I am also following the 30 day decluttering plan. Each day whatever number of items I find I cross off that number.
