Removing Water from Ice Water Hash with the Büchner Funnel Technique

- This video lays out a potentially new technique for removing water from sieved ice water hash. After lifting the bubble bag from the bucket and allowing the water to drain out, the patty is still wet. Not everyone has the budget to buy a new-school freeze dryer for home use. Traditional methods using tents, dehumidifiers and fans work, but are cumbersome and take a long time to air dry, leading to increased oxidation and risk of mold. Not to mention an increased risk of the hash getting fouled, knocked-over or discovered. This technique, established by Tyler Markwart, removed the water using a simple vacuum in under 8 hours.
If you have tried this technique in the past or if you do try it now and discover some additional best practices, please share them in the comments so we can all learn from each other.

Jus added a nice buchner setup to my lab...killer info buddy
this is the kind of news we need in the scene! many thanks!!
You can add one more step from the chemistry lab and that is using a desiccator bag. what you do is put a plate of your hash and a container of a desiccator salt (damp rid at the hardware store) into a plastic bag or any air-tight container. Any moister left in the hash is pulled into the Calcium Chloride (what damp rid actually is) it should finish up the drying with less risk of contamination.
Was looking for this comment...I use em for storing mush and was thinking of doin this after the funnel...
I've been waiting like a kid for Christmas for your next presentation, you NEVER disappoint. thank you so much
Things slowed WAY down during the pandemic since most of the content for the channel is recorded in person, but things are slowly starting to pick up. Thanks for sticking around!
the first company to market with a mini table top sized affordable freeze dryer is gonna make a killing in the hobby grower market. 3 k is a lot when on a budget. even the food preppers would buy them i bet. thanks shango and guest. cool idea tho i wonder if any one has gone further with it yet
Amazing just amazing
Been wondering when i'd see people doing this! Try a deeper vacuum pump on some 10mm filter paper...
Great idea for drying faster but how is the oxidation rate passing air through the trichomes like that? Do you notice a visible difference in colour from the beginning to end?
I’m hoping that oxidation occurs from length of time exposed to oxygen and not the amount
I have seen this once used I believe it was in a video of bigger business cookies distribution throughout California and they were showing how they do the live Rozen and they actually use a Buchner funnel before they even put it into a freeze dryer I mean it’s really all about preserving the Terps if you’re dealing with live Rozen if you’re dealing with old flowers and just trying to reclaim as much medicine as you can that’s a different story, but if you’re trying to preserve live fresh turbines, that would otherwise degrade most immediately, and then some of them are water soluble You really wanna get that water out of there as soon as possible because they’re not just water soluble I believe that the oxidize wishes what was spoken about during this video. Decomposition synthesis in the other chemicals by oxidation is the thing.
Very cool. Would this work just as well for both offresh frozen and dry/cured hash?
Yes, it would. So long as you are coming out of ice water, this will help.
What a great idea!
Would it be possible to add dry ice to the top container (in, above, or around) to act somewhat as a freeze dryer? Or would that just freeze the product?
well technically a freeze dryer does freeze your product as well but i feel like it may add some unwanted moisture but i may be wrong just speculating
or possibly crack your glass
Freeze dryers use sublimation to dry it I'm not sure if that would have the same effect
Have you tried adding a desiccant to the flask, I'm wondering if that would pull even more water
Need in my life right about now lol. Damn dryers too much
Is there a difference in taste between the normal dried material vs the buchner treated material?
No difference really. If anything, the terps are better because it spends less time in contact with the air. The color is nicer too.
@@ShangoLosis the consistency still okay to press rosin.
Same consistency as dried hash
Hash ain’t hash til it’s a year old sometimes 2
My brother don’t let China steal your idea.
Would bei nice to actually see what you are Talking about. Talking is one Thing, makes a huge diffence to See this
