This one bought a tear to my eye. I took my jimny out with my best mate for the first time last year to the same area. Watching this is almost like re watching that day, we both had no idea what we were doing, got bogged but we both had a smile on our face the whole time. It was the last time I got to hang out with him he committed suicide 2 weeks later. Keep an eye on your mates guys they are too precious to loose.

There is no MCM tax, they just show everyone else cool cars that are available and what you can do with them that people may not have thought of before.
If you were going to buy a Jimny, you'd get one by now. Keep an eye out, you can always find bargains if you look hard enough
@@LokiMelb "no MCM tax" you say? i've been watching toyota sera prices for awhile since there's usually 1 or 2 available for sale in the US and they were on my list of potential dailies before I got my GTI. they were $10k from the importers before october and now they're $13k
Something I learned about the car scene: tuner guys turn into offroad guys when they get older
And sometimes we go the other way, too. I went from a solid axle swapped Vitara to a lowered Camry with a 3S-GTE swapped in.
Likewise, I went from a 4wd Tacoma to a NB Miata
@@jeffman3 myself and several other people I know went the way I described. Car meets just aren't as fun as hitting trails with your buddies. I went from a FD3s (which I still have) to a new Ford ranger I'm going to kit out for overland when I have paid it off.
@@vdfsbdz I strongly suspect I'll end up swaying back toward 4x4s; I just recently bought my first car back from the person I sold it to and I've got big plans for it. It's an 87 Samurai I sold for $300 in 2010, and I tracked it down just a few months ago and bought it back for the same price.
Sometimes it’s a matter of being able to share the passion with the gf or family. Tuners/HotRods/Racecars are pretty singular in their experience, but off-roading can often be shared...as much as I want a balls out crazy fast car, I know my daughter was scared shitless of it and my fiancé hated climbing over the rollbar in my old Foxbody, (along with the way it rode and how loud it was). Both however love getting out on the trails. And as such, being able to share that with them has adjusted my focus that direction.

My free advice, FWIW--1. You already have the most important mod there is: a good mate with another proper 4WD; get some decent tow points on the Jimny and the Kei Truck, buy a snatch strap, put a CB radio in both vehicles and you can talk to each other while trying out all the 'should I/shouldn't I?' bits without having to walk home when you get a bit stuck.
2. Tyres that grip will get you further than anything else (until you've got tyres that grip).
3. Drive to take advantage of the vehicle's strengths and mod to minimise its limitations (everything is relative to the vehicle's size, wheelbase/track, gearing, weight, etc.); a small, short-wheelbase vehicle has more lines to choose from.

It's funny how there's absolutely 0 noise coming from it while it's doing all of this.
It was either running the entire time, or it starts silently as well. It could have been an EV for all we knew.
The background noise cancellation from their microphones would have suppressed the engine sounds. It'll be louder in person.

@@SurgeDashcam that happens a lot in videos I watch with people shooting with a suppressor, the mic doesn’t give you a true idea of how quiet the shot actually is, along with how loud the un-suppressed shot is. It all levels out on the viewers end.
That's why it's normal to add in fake engine noise in post production.

It's really great seeing car enthusiasts getting into some off-road goodness. I grew up in Eastern Canada where the off-road community & trails are pretty accessible, so I kinda did the opposite route of starting there & getting into more sports-car stuff into my 20's -- I love to see it, cheers!

Maxing a 4x4 out is actually putting the biggest tyres on/tyre size you want, and then putting on the smallest lift you possibly can without it scrubbing.
Same.. i have been wanting them to do a 4x4 project for ages. Go hard boys from the Hawkesbury
A huge lift is a bad idea. It'll make the Jimny less capable and just make you roll it. Like Liam said the smallest lift with the biggest tyres is the best. But diff lockers will get you the furthest off road
Also don't forget reduction gears
@@GeneralNOH nothing is ever as defined as you think it is. Good general rule for a trail vehicle but not every offroad vehicle is ment for trails.

I took a Jimny out on Fraser Island for a couple days of trail driving and they’re legitimately the sports car of the off-roading world. Nothing like 4WD drifting through the sand. You guys are going to have a blast!!

This video made me happy. Stoked you guys are giving 4x4ing a go. When I first took my hilux surf off-road and got stuck, it was one of these little Jimny’s that pulled me out.
Embarrassing, but they’re damn capable little trucks. Since then I’ve had quite a few little Suzuki’s and with a welded rear diff, a lift and some tyres they’re off their chops.
I’m stoked for this! Been following for years just got into overlanding can’t wait for them to dive in too!

I've been driving jeeps for 10 years and I remember my first time going offroad and being just as excited as Marty & Moog... I had a bone stock, white Cherokee XJ diesel and it was the exact same feeling, the tiniest obstacle was so awesome to overcome... Well done guys, welcome to the club! Enjoy!

Very nice ride! My first was a 98 Isuzu Rodeo with 5 speed trans. I took every single trail I drove past, just to find what's down there. I hit every puddle and mud pit I could find until I actually *broke* my tires(they didn't go flat). In the first 2 months of owning it, three tires had the steel coming through the tread. Off-roading is so rewarding because of the new places you can explore and what you'll find out there!

@@healthiestmotorsport5145 same, I really love the "little G-class" look even though I hate the G-class and mercedes with passion. The car just makes so much more sense than a G-class, since it's small and therefore actually capable of going off-road instead of the gravel highways you'd need for that massive G-class.

@@flowersnaught9380 I used to have 3 of them. One of them I used a spare hood and windshield frame to make a roof and back window and converted it into a tiny pickup truck.
I've had an 86 Samurai tintop for 19 years now and I'll keep it for as long as I live. Best Nugget Ever.
Where I am I can find one that has a Chevy block and like 2 feet of lift. Whole drive train replaced with awesome parts.
This was actually really enjoyable to watch, a different pace for Mighty Car Mods. I am excited to see what comes of it.

The 6km road to my place in British Columbia is 10 times harder than this!!! There was no need for them to engage 4WD. Curious to see what they do to the truck and what adventures they go on for sure!
Yes, thats exactly what I said, it looks like majority of all the roads I take here in the local home town, and abroad a lot of the time really, I mean lets be honest our U.S. roads are shit.

@@robda7195 . You can’t import a vehicle thats sold here officially, unless you have owned it overseas for more than 12 months. Even then, they stiff you a lot of extra charges and stuff, make you change tyres, extra checks etc.

The TRD Lazer had the scoop not blocked thanks to sketchy trimming of the hood
I like that kind of fake scoop, though, *cause* it's the kind you can easily open up later for some real purpose, without messing up the cosmetics or using cheap crap. :)

3" suspension lift and 31's mud tyres and your have way more fun and a snorkel is a must.
31's are so illegal these days. even 29" is pushing it. i think 235/75r15 is about it for legality

My first 4X4 was an Isuzu Trooper, such a beast and so underrated. I love off-roading! Take things slow, if you hit water too hard you can shoot it up into your intake and electronics. Look into waterproofing your engine bay for some simple things if you'll see a lot of water.
I used to have one of these (a samurai) a few years ago, but i soon realized that my subaru was just as capable off road so I let it go. No regrets. Its always awesome watching you guys get into new stuff though!
