- Checking out my new car and first drive! I always wanted one of these cars, and when this one came up for sale, I had to buy it immediately, sight unseen.
It's pretty clear now that Marty's Toyota SERA is going to get dominated...
The Rules for this challenge are simple:
1) Buy a modified car for $2000 (oops)
2) Spend 1 day fixing it

@@LivinLefty yeah compared to even the base model specs most cars come with today, we take it all for granted. When this car was new, with computerized anything, that was a selling point. Most people didn't even have a personal computer still by this point.
Tyler Coates I remember the first car i purchased for myself, a 1996 Grand Prix, not only had an ABS badge, but ABS was etched into all four of the alloy wheels. That car was also notable for having a button to push to start the automatic trans out in 2nd gear, which worked really well for driving in snow.
My gas hob has a 'Turbo' decal from the factory.

A Nissan NX Coupe with a NA SR20 set a land speed record at Bonneville of 190.574mph in 2016 making it the fastest naturally aspirated two-liter.

It was actually fitted with a Honda KA20 motor in 2016. It broke its previous record set in 2011 with the SR20 motor. So the 190mph record was actually with a Honda motor....

Handling 5 stars, in that test. In the comparative chart was considered the best handling car of all of them, as far as i know, and one of the rivals was a 911.
Bushings and suspension definitely don't improve with time.
Its funny.. there are so many modified cars that people think they have improved the handling and drive of the car.. majority of the time they've made it worse! 🤦♂️😬

At least that had a tailpipe welded on. The car I had at school had it's exhaust deleted by a speed bump in the road outside my school.
@@misterthegeoff9767 I had similar. The exhaust broke just before the axle, I turned it out so it dumped in front of the rear wheel. I thought I was so cool.

Moog really is gifted with some crazy musical abilities, what he played on the roof was actually pretty cool. I'm feeling some weird tribal battle music between these cars after hearing that.
This thing is upsettingly similar to my Aussie assembled N14 SSS.
I can confirm that Nissan Australia didn't bother with LSDs on this platform, and I'd strongly recommend popping the ABS relay on the race track. Mine had the piston punch through the pad, allowing the piston to fall out of the caliper, and spray brake fluid onto the red-hot rotor, which then caught fire.
All that said, I mostly fixed the handling on mine with some new shocks (it already had superlow springs), and now it regularly blows away much faster gear at track days.
I was expecting a Sex spec Nissan Pulsar however this is still surprising

I just bought an SR20DE , the engine is blowing my mind and it's stock! Didn't run since June , battery died and started so easily once charged , runs smoothly , very good car , i own a GA16DE version already but 2.0L version is really different and the driving style changes , but if you want power , the beast reveals itself !
I had a n14 pulsar SSS with sr20de, exhaust, pod, lowered.... watching this brings back memories!!

Hey Martin, My first car was 1978 rx7 from a field. 55,000kms and yes it was rough. when I learned rotories are expensive for a highschooler, but locked in my love for rx7s/rotary

Finally an NX!!!!! Mines built to drive on the dirt and thats where you really notice how well this car handles compared to other “wrong wheel drive” cars. Enjoy this car while you have it man. Its a well built machine.
Yes! One of my first cars was an NX2000 I bought from my sister. I did a few mods and took it autocrossing, and DOMINATED. It's a sentra s-er "classic" underneath the fish face body :)

That's not a "targa" top... Those are "T-tops". Targa tops are a single removable piece (without the bar between the driver and passenger).
so hype for this, i miss my nx2000 so badly. the hot move for a dirtbag teen nx owner is taking the t-tops out while sitting at a light/drive-through, a+ highly recommend
Me too! It was my first car, owned it from 2000 - 2002. It had no problem with Integras on main street! I'm not sure I'd actually want it back, but great times were had with it. No one expected it to be as fast as it was.
Targa tops are 1 piece. Those are t-tops. Like 80's Camaro style.

I sold my rusty mess of a NX2000 about a year ago. I miss it dearly, it was such a fun little car. Long live the Nissan Bean. I would buy another if I can find one. Great choice Moog!!!
It's called 100NX in my country, every single one has T-top, and cost around 500 euros (around 800 aud).
Also every one has a carburated 1.6 and an automatic.
@@boheyo Actually no. We have 1.6i and 2.0, all manual. Only 1% cars in my country are auto. In last few years, that percentage is slowly rising.
There's only England that didn't get the 2L according to Wikipedia, because we're pansies apparently. And even then, we got the fuel injected 1.6 eventually, and basically nobody would've bought the automatic. Also, if it's the same as MR2s, the T-Top versions are less valuable than hardtops because they make the body less stiff, and are guaranteed to leak eventually.

@@JamesBalazs Well that makes sense, because it uses rubbers seals which can and do perish. Bit of a lame reason to downprice them though. You can fix it the same as standard door seals.

I had an 88 Pulsar here in the US, loved those targas, but we replaced the interior door handles.like every 6 months! I miss that car a bit. But I smashed it into the back of a cool CRX, and fibreglass everywhere!

This Nissan and the Mazda MX3 are so close to each other. Rare, same year range, same size, similar power levels and look so much alike. I had a 94 MX3 and seeing this vid brought back memories.
I was pretty stoked when I saw the Sera, but this thing is just as sick! N/A Silvertop SR's go pretty hard! I've never seen that front bar before though. My first car was an N13 Exa, CA18DE. Pretty cool having a T-top in summer as well!

Yes! I owned an nx2000 maybe 16 years ago. It was pretty quick for it was. It unfortunately rotted out (Canadian winters are brutal) so I sold it

Damn, this brings back some good memories. Used to own a 1.6 carby one. First car I worked on, modified, went to car shows with, drove on the Nordschleife and made youtube videos with (still online until this day). Looking forward to this series, and pretty sure the NX will win, even though the Sera is just as cool 😎
Had a nxr. Loved it!! Should of compared it to a SSS tho. Also the original front bar is different and comes with foglights different from the NX

@@Eatinbritches I wished they did more with the Saab. The main focus of the channel is obviously JDM stuff (with the occasional VW thrown in), but a Swedish car would be something a bit different.
@@Jordanskiy The Saab was a pain to work with IIRC. No aftermarket parts (overnighting from Sweden is expensive) and every stock component is weird "som fan."
Other than that, it was awesome.
Lets wait and see how much boost that starlet is running first before we judge. It could be anything from about 90hp to about 190hp.

I love B13 NXs and SE-Rs! I had a 91 and 92, and they were amazing lil cars! I'm so excited to see what comes of this car!
I am super excited about this challenge. I think no matter what, you should have a classic junk in the trunk challenge. Who can get in to the boot and pull a fire extinguisher faster to put out an engine fire. Of course you would not want to spray these beauties. But you could simulate it. And think of the danger associated with these vehicles. That boot could drop on the back of your head at any moment. That is pure death defying drama.

Love how you mentioned Astina's. It would absolutely make my life if you guys bought an 89-94 pop up headlight BG model Astina nugget and did it up. I've owned three and they're awesome 😍 You can still find the top of the range SP manual's for around $2K.
I loved the Road & Track bit about 90's sports cars in America not having the Sera listed, only because the Sera was never imported here in the States.

B-series, you can tell by the valve cover (belt section level with the rest, h22 it's lower/angled). Could be a B16B or B18C(R), unless it's a b16a with fresh paint.

I love these cars. I used to own a Sentra SE-R which is the same car but boxy and lighter. SR20DE, excellent suspension.
In the states these all had a viscous LSD.
Love the NX's, I had a stock one years ago, lots of fun but not very nippy at all. Sold it after a year and bought a 2.8 Audi 80 quattro, but miss that 'lil NX now :)
