I've simplified the video a bit. If you would like the Gunblade Cursor and/or the Blue Gradient textures you can download them here: drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/1J-MYxTBRJK4pIPMdzZTHuB75UHAfjAUn Steam Deck users will need to follow a few extra steps to get the mods working that can be found here: steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/3593339057329933860/ I've created another channel specifically for my video game guides where I will be uploading this video in the future so it doesn't get mixed in with my playthroughs and end up lost forever. I'll leave this guide here since it seems to be getting some traction but all future guides will be uploaded to youtube.com/@VestikStudio.
@alphaomega1969 There are two background mod packs. Battlefield is only for the backgrounds in random encounters and boss fights. The other mod pack is Anglewing which is only available on the modder's Patreon and hasn't been released to the public yet. Anglewing is for the backgrounds outside of battle like Balamb Garden, Fire Cavern, and the towns. If those backgrounds are the pixelated ones you are talking about and you want to run them with your game they are available at the McIndus Patreon for the $2 option here: www.patreon.com/mcindusmods If it is the Battlefield backgrounds that are pixelated there are a few things you can verify that may have interfered with your textures. - Make sure you ran the game at least once before installing any of the mods. - Use the correct language version of the Demastered tool and be careful not to unpack the files multiple times. The manager will tell you to keep re-unpacking but don't do it. It's a trap. - If all is good with the above steps the rest will be to re-merge the BattlefieldPack-Remastered_v1-3-1 textures into your FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered/DEMASTER_EXP folder. - If you are playing on a Steam Deck there may be other things that need to be looked at but I'm not familiar with that at all so a search engine will be your best bet if it has something to do with that.
As of 30Apr2024 there is one additional step. After installing demaster, you also have to get a patch for demaster because the newest version of [Angelwing: Ultima] uses DDS files instead of PNG. The game wont recognise the DDS files and will crash just after the intro if you don't have the patch. Hopefully newer versions of demaster will include the patch so you don't have to apply it separately.
@@WinterPlatypus Thanks for pointing that out! The video doesn't cover installing Angelwing files but after the files get released to the public and posted on the QHIMM forums I'll make sure to add an extra not in the video description.
Thanks for the tutorial! Really wish this modder releases the upscaled pre-rendered backgrounds mod eventually. Been waiting years for that to release.
Thanks for the tutorial! I hope you don't mind I linked this video in the description of my FF8 playlist to give you and the modding community the credit ya'll deserve!
Maybe once these mods are finally complete, we will start seeing more modders use them as a base and we can start to enjoy the variety of mods that FF7 and FF9 have. Fingers crossed!
The game was half baked. They would need a full rewrite to fix it and flesh it out. Lots of questionable choices too that leave a bad taste in the mouth like subjecting new players to timelimits that do not stop even in the menus with unclear penalties and rewards. It is understandable that they just don't want to go there.
Amazing video, thank you very much! Easy to follow without any unnecessary tangents. Very well done! Hope, we'll soon get the missing backgrounds as well. . I have one or rather two questions though: - is there any way to change the resolution after installing the modified installer? When i click on the game in Steam it jumps right into the game. - are there any other known mods that enable widescreen support? I play in fullscreen mode with native monitor resolution yet the game only plays in a "square" in the middle of the screen.
Thanks for the positive feedback! For your first question you can change the resolution after the game is launched by pressing your Escape key to bring up the configuration menu and adjust your game setting from there. As far as I know there isn't an authentic full screen mod yet, but you should be able to use ReShade to stretch the image. reshade.me/ Here is a ReShade guide for the 2013 FF8 version. You may have to play with the settings a little to get the game to look how you want it. forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=18415.0 You can also try searching (do we still say Googling?) for "reshade final fantasy 8 remaster" and you will get a bunch of hits with other guides and recommended settings for fixing the black bars on the sides of the game. I hope all that helps!
Thanks a lot for your video... FF VIII was my first Final fantasy and one of my favorite JRPG but for some reason on his time I didn´t finished... I think something failed with my disc 4 and never completed and checking mods for the FF 7/8/9, I find your guide and is very easy to follow and understand... thanks for taking the time do this and working perfect on my PCm and will test on my SteamDeck. By the way I faced an error starting the game about not find a config.txt file and I am not sure if was caused for not start the game before apply the mods... but this issue was fixed creating the config.txt file in blank on C:\Users\\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered\Steam\ in case someone face the same problem. Edit: I think everything is working fine except the backgrounds on Balamb, in the towns for example the first one... But looks good now the over World map, characters, enemies, etc... Do you know which pack of textures is the one for this? Maybe I miss copy some texturas. Edit 2: I see now that is The Angelwing pack that was not shared I think? Do you know how to implement it?
The mods for the Remastered version are still a work in progress and the upscaled versions of the field backgrounds, like the ones you mentioned in Balamb Garden and the town, are currently being worked on. That's why they aren't seen in the video. As far as the AngelWing pack is concerned, it was made specifically for the original Steam version of Final Fantasy 8. There are some comments on the QHIMM forums that make it sound like they can be used in the Remastered version but there are some bugs that have been reported from using these backgrounds. I haven't looked into the process of using these backgrounds with the Remastered version. Your best bet would be to search the FF8 section of the QHIMM forums. If I have time to research how it's done I can try and throw together another video showing how to do that.
Why the official "remaster" couldn't have been touched up like this is beyond me.. console gamers forever stuck with an inferior product. *Sigh* plus the original UI font was dope why change it
Agreed. It's insane that mods are the only way we can make a remastered game feel "remastered" in the current gaming era. Especially after the quality we've seen with some of the other remakes Square has put out.
Is there a 60fps mod? I know FF7 had one through 7thHeaven Or do I have to use special K to boost the fps? Also, good tutorial I was able to pack everything in there easily.
I had fun following this guide for disc 1. I got stuck with multiple game crashes at start of disc 2, to the point using these mods make playing through the whole game impossible. I went and actually read the forum thread for these mods, and found the project was abandoned years ago. So please do not use these mods. I lost a lot of hours to this
It seems like that would work. Here is a Steam post about getting the mods running on the Steam Deck: steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/3593339057329933860/
Steam Deck needs a few extra steps. Did you try following the steps in the link in the video description? steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/3593339057329933860/
I wish there was a mod that replaced the new models with the old models. I just want a pretty vanilla experience with only a few mods or upgrades like widescreen of analog controls and I can't really figure out what I need to do that.
Analog controls would be great, but I haven't seen a mod for that yet. As for widescreen, you might be able to use ReShade. Here is a steam forum discussion that walks you through the steps if you want to give it a shot: steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/1635291505041144048/
@@VestikGaming thanks for the expedient reply! Are there mods for remastered that change the new models out for the PS1 models? would I be better off modding the original PC/steam version? I don't care for the censorship, but mostly I just want an enhanced PS1 experience.
@sokoTV2 I don't think there are currently mods that swap the new models with the original. There probably is a way to pull the PS1 models into the new game somehow but you might be better off modding the original PC/Steam version to get what you want for your game experience.
To me the biggest problem is awful blurry low res backgrounds. Unless that stuff will be rectified least in some way, I don't need any other mods. I heard some guy "sell" demo version of such mod, not sure if its right or even legal.
You may be thinking of McIndus. He is the main modder for these mods and he is currently working on putting together an installer with the HD backgrounds included! He has said that he is hoping to fix the rest of the bug issues he's found and get the installer ready to be released free to the public sometime this year. You can check out his progress on his Discord or on his Patreon (not illegal) and support him if you want access to the HD backgrounds sooner or you can wait for the finished product that will hopefully be ready in the not-so-distant future.
@@VestikGaming That's kind of a problem. I'd gladly support him if he released his mod versions freely, in the spirit of community. But as it is, it's almost like he sells some demo version of it through his Patreon. Nothing personal, just doesn't sound right to me.
Followed exactly and no changes, demaster manager also wants to re-unpack every time I open it, even if no changes have been made after the mods got "installed".
Hi mate! First of all thank you for the tutorial, very clear and easy to follow. But I have issues with this, I think I've got all mods working except the demaster one. The fonds of all scenaries still blurry (balamb garden, cities...) Do you know any way to fix that? I try with the version 1033 (even reinstalling it) and the stable version 1028 (this one is just crashing the game without even start).
The demaster is working as intended. Keep using the 1033 version. I'll write up a quick explanation below that covers the "missing" background mods. This video only covers the mods you can get for free right now. The mods you are talking about are the Angelwing background mods. Those can only be found as a Patreon on www.patreon.com/mcindusmods right now. I believe you get access to all the mods, including Angelwing, at any membership level. I'm not sure if all the backgrounds are included but most of them will be finished and available for Patreons. That being said, once McIndus completes a mod pack he releases it for free on the QHIMM forums. Angelwing is the final mod pack he has been working on and he is very close to finishing it. According to what he has shared on his Discord chats he expects to have them finished and released for everyone within a few months.
this modding is considerably easy compared to the hassle of FF7....wish these mods worked on the android versions of the FF games like the KOTOR games...
Thanks for the tutorial, but I can't seem to get the mods to show up in-game. I've done this twice. Run ff8Demaster to create the DemasterEXP folder, then copy the texture folders of all of the mods into the DemasterEXP folder and let it replace any files. When I get into the game, the game backgrounds are still pixilated and I can't see any evidence that the mods have worked at all.
Thank you for watching! Which backgrounds are you having problems with? Are they the Balamb/Town backgrounds, Overworld backgrounds, and/or Battle backgrounds? Is your game installed on the C: drive? I'm installing the game on my D drive right now to see what happens. Troubleshooting over comments is tough as I can only give you some generic things to check. I'll add a few suggestions and reminders below but if they don't work then jump into my Discord and we can dig down into specifics to get things working for you. discord.gg/nzh4VrZa 1. These mods only work with FF8 Remastered (2019) and not the original (2013) release of the game. There is a different set of mods for the 2013 game version. _Video Coming Soonᵗᵐ_ 2. If you are adding these mods to a fresh install of FF8 Remastered then make sure to run the game first before adding any of the mods. This will ensure that all the original game files are set up correctly. 3. If you are adding these mods to an already modded version of FF8 Remastered, then you may be experiencing some compatibility issues between the two different mod packs. 4. Only run the ffviii_demaster_manager.exe once. Running it multiple times may cause issues with the DEMASTER_EXP files.
@@VestikGaming I haven't played into the game super far. Just got past the opening cinematic to the first scene with Quistis, solely to look at the Balamb backgrounds to see if they are pixelated. If they are, I take it as the mods not working as intended. I'm applying these mods to FF8 Remastered, and they're going on my D: drive. I've tried it 3-4 separate times on clean installs every time. Perhaps it'll be easier if I upload a video of me following the steps in your video and then uploading it so you can see where I may go wrong. I'll pop in the Discord also. Sorry for the trouble, but thanks for being willing to help!
After looking into this with Richard we were able to find that the mods did install correctly but since the Remastered version of these mods aren't 100% complete the backgrounds in question, like Balamb Garden, aren't included in the "free" public download files yet.
That's no good. The first things to check would be if you are getting any errors? Did you run your game at least once before installing the mods? Which version of the Demastered tool did you use? 1.3.4 seems to be buggy so if you used that then give it a try with the 1.3.3 version. The Angelwing background mods aren't included in this video because they aren't available for free yet so none of the Balamb Garden or town backgrounds will be changed. If all else fails, trying again is probably your best bet since you already have all the mod files downloaded. Since you've gone through the process already here is a quick check list of steps. Uninstall the game, remove the mod files from the game folder, reinstall game, run game once to allow files to correctly initialize, reinstall demastered tool, drag-and-drop mods back in. You might want to run the game after each mod gets installed to check that it's working correctly.
@@VestikGaming Same problem here. But I think the problem has to do with Steam updating the Demaster files. I followed the tutorial's instructions, and I also added the Angelwing background mod and the Roses and Wine. All worked great, but only once, and only if I opened the files quickly after opening Steam. When I open the game, it calls the launcher that shows a different terminal window (Demaster) for a couple of seconds, and then the game opens and all the mods are working. But after that, every time I open the game, the terminal window doesn't open (or it opens for a few milliseconds), and then the game opens and no mod is applied (except for the SeedRemaster mod but only if it was installed using the zzz tool). I think it has to do with Steam updating some of the Demaster files. I'm looking for a solution.
I think I found a solution: Go to the game through the library, right click, select properties. In the launch command box, write: export WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b"; %command% Let us know if it worked for you! It worked for me, both in my laptop and Steam Deck.
Is there no way to install mods to enhance the look of the cities you enter? I am in the first mission in Dollet and the city I'm walking through just looks horrible. I did everything you did in this video and I notice the textures have not changed for this for example
The mods aren't 100% complete and the mod you are talking about that has the HD backgrounds for Balamb Garden and the towns aren't included in this video because they are currently only available at the creators Patreon with a SeeD membership ($2) www.patreon.com/mcindusmods He is currently working on getting a public version released in the very near future according to messages on his Discord so if Patreon isn't an option for you then you can wait for the public release of Angelwing that should be happening in the next week or two barring any delays on the modder's end of things.
@@VestikGaming thanks for the reply. I did eventually figure this out in the midst of my drunken confusion last night lmao. I decided to pay the bloke the highest tier of $5 to his patreon since this stuff is really impressive and he deserves a lot more tbh.
Moguri is a masterpiece! I'm not familiar with how long it took to put the full Moguri mod package together or how many people contributed but I'm just glad we have a group of dedicated and skilled people willing to put time into improving these games. Once the final version of this FF8 mod is out it should open the door for more modders to publish original background art and content for the game that can make it look even better! Once that starts to happen, I'm hoping we can see some mods that bring everything up to Moguri standards.
The link for the files are in the description. Just drag and drop the textures folder into the Demaster folder to get the textures. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1J-MYxTBRJK4pIPMdzZTHuB75UHAfjAUn
True. It's only available through Patreon at the moment. This video only covers the publicly available mods on the QHIMM forums. There is a link in the video description for the HD backgrounds for anyone who wants those as well.
i cant seem to get the cursor or menu color change to work. I tried downloading and putting the file from the link you suggested below, everything else si working
You should be able to drag and drop the Google Drive texture folder into the DEMASTER_EXP folder and overwrite the existing files to get that working. If all the other mods are working then I'm not sure why that one isn't showing up for you
Yes you can! SeeDRemastered v1.2 doesn't have the blue gradient background or the Gunblade icon included in its texture files for some reason. If you want to keep the original grey menu and dialog backgrounds and the finger icon then you only have to install SeeDRemastered v1.2 If you want the blue gradient backgrounds and not the Gunblade icon then follow the instructions in the video starting at 16:50 to download SeeDRemastered v1.0 and unpack that using the zzzDeArchive Tool. At about the 22:20 mark there are two files I replace in the iconfl01.tex folder. The first one is the background file and the second one is the Gunblade icon. Don't replace the second file and you will have the blue backgrounds and keep the Finger icon.
Currently those are being worked on and are only available for early access on Patreon: www.patreon.com/join/mcindusmods Once he has finished updating all of the backgrounds they will be released to the public. They are currently "close" to being finished but that has been the case since the beginning of the year.
Sorry it's not working for you. I can try to do some simple troubleshooting here in chat but if it gets complicated then you will need to go to the McIndus Mod Discord and get help from him: discord.gg/3F6zdxXQUT Are you using the 1.3.3 version of Demastered? There is a pre-release for 1.3.4 that may not be stable yet so I would recommend using 1.3.3 instead. Which language are you playing the game in? I have only installed these mods on the English version of the game so there may be other installation issues if you don't have the correct mod version for your language. You can troubleshoot each mod by opening demaster.conf in a text editor and then set any of the mod settings to 0 for off and 1 for on. This will allow you to launch the game without certain mods running. Hopefully this will help you find which mod is causing issues for you. If that doesn't work, have you tried a fresh install of the game and the mods? Technology happens and it may have missed or corrupted a file somewhere that breaks the game. Try launching the game after each different mod is installed. This will help to see which mod is causing the issue. Do you have any other mods installed (difficulty mods, voiceover mods, ...)? There may be conflicts between the files that prevent the game from launching. I hope something above is able to help you get your game running with the mods.
Awesome video. I tried to put the new music by Enrico on nexusmods on my Steam remastered and followed replacing in my steam install and then unpacking the demaster. I then copied the music to the data folder but doesn’t seem to work. Not sure if I am doing something wrong. I’m on windows 11
The files you are looking to replace are in the "..\data\music\dmusic\ogg" folder. If you drop the new music files in there instead of "..\data" then it should work.
Demaster mod doesn't work anymore? I'm troubleshooting by replacing the square enix logo in demaster_exp and then rebooting the game to see changes and it never changes no matter how many times I try to reinstall the mod Zero explanation anywhere online about what it is that's not working about this
@MisterAlerion @diamonddust9175 Which version of the Demastered Tool are you using? 1.3.4 still isn't stable and has caused issues for many people. 1.3.3 is still the go-to version that you should be using and still works. If you accidentally ran the ffviii_demaster_manager file more than once it will cause issues. If Steam detects your game as not authentic then the mods won' t work either. I'm not sure how all that works between Steam and DeMastered Tool. There are also a few more steps to get the mods working if you are trying to get things working on Steam Deck: steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/3593339057329933860/ I'm currently in the process of editing this video to cut out the optional zzzDeArchive portions and replace those parts with a link to download the Gunblade and Gradient textures instead of you having to extract them yourself. This will also make the video a lot easier to follow. If nothing I've mentioned above helps, then I would suggest giving a fresh install a try and skip any zzzDeArchive steps. Everything should be drag-and-drop for mod installation steps. Remember to delete all the leftover mod files from the Steam game folder as well since just uninstalling from Steam won't remove them automatically. I'll be adding this link in the description as soon as the video edits are done but if you wanted the Gunblade and Gradient files, here they are: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1J-MYxTBRJK4pIPMdzZTHuB75UHAfjAUn?usp=sharing I hope one of these suggestions work. Keep the questions coming if things still aren't working and I'll keep on trying to help you get things working.
No analog/rumble support yet. Steam Deck needs a few extra steps. Check out this link from the video description: steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/3593339057329933860/
I don't have any files within my ff7 root folder called main.zzz or other.zzz not sure how you got them? I've just installed fresh install, ran the game once but nothings there. So whenever I try and run demaster manager I just get: Either main.zzz or other.zzzz was not found in directory, did you put this in your ff8 root folder which I did, where did you get the main.zzz / other.zzz from as they are NOT in the download for Demaster? thanks. I think I am on 2013 version as I bought it originally when first come out on steam
These mods are specifically for the Remastered version that was released in 2019. The original Final Fantasy version has a different file structure and doesn't have the .zzz files. If you are looking for graphics mods for the original FF8 then you can check out the QHIMM forums. Here are a couple of links to get you started. Tonberry enables modding the original FF8 files and the master list of mods can be found here: forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=17322.0 Installing the Tonberry mods are a little more complicated since it's using hashmaps to get everything working. I don't know if there are any up-to-date RUclips videos out there that can walk you through the installation process but if there aren't I can try and throw one together in the next couple of weeks.
@@VestikGaming thanks for spending your time writing all that, if I’m honest I didn’t realise they released 2 versions on the Pc, I bought it when it ported originally, didn’t realise there was 2 versions. Very shocked that steam doesn’t give you the upgrade cheaper and charges full price still even when you own the standard, crazy haha. I’ll get remastered and then play through it thank you! EDIT: I got the remaster online now for around £9.00 and alls working fine, the black lines on side are a bit ugly in 2023 but hey ho, game looks great thanks, well deserved sub
It sounds like the game files you are trying to mod are the 2013 version of the game and not the Remastered version. Double check your game folder file path. It should be "...\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered". The .zzz files are included in the base install of FF8 Remastered. If you are using the 2013 version and your game folder path looks like this "...\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VIII" then you will want to use the Tonberry Enhanced version of these mods. These are also found on the QHIMM forums. I have a video for setting those up here: ruclips.net/video/tGaI2e3OTaw/видео.html
video rất hay. nhưng cài đặt xong thì vào game là nó hiển thị màn hình đen và báo lỗi " Error: An unknown exception has occurred " help me!!! - im from vietnamese

The background mods are currently a work in progress. McIndus, the modder who is largely responsible for these mods, has said he will probably be releasing the background pack sometime this year for everyone to use for free. Right now the only way I know of getting the HD background images for Remaster is by supporting his Patreon and downloading them from there. There are already upscaled backgrounds for the 2013 Steam version of the game that you might be able to use. forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=17541.0 I haven't tried using the 2013 HD backgrounds so you would have to browse the comments in the forum link to see if anyone has been able to make them work for the Remastered version.
The backgrounds I was talking about in the previous comment are the backgrounds used inside of Balamb Garden, towns, and dungeons. Not the field and battle backgrounds. A few people have had questions about the town backgrounds not being in HD so I may have jumped to the wrong conclusion. I apologize if that's what happened. Sounds like the backgrounds you are having issues with are the ones from the video like the mountains, grass, and Balamb Garden model. Please reply with the backgrounds you are having issues with if it isn't these. Here are a few things you can check and try to see if they help fix your issue: Double check that you downloaded the correct HorizonPack mod. It should be the v1.1.a link for 2019 and not the v1.0 for 2013. I've made this mistake before. The links are close enough to each other that it's easy to click the wrong one. If you are installing these after a new install of FF8 Remastered and didn't run the game at least once before installing the mods to allow the game to initialize some important files, then some of the mods may not work correctly. If this is the case, then you will probably have to do a clean install of the game and mods. Try replacing the HorizonPack files. Drag and drop the files from your downloaded folder to the DEMASTER_EXP/textures folder again and replace all the files. If that doesn't work, then try a clean install of the mods.
@@VestikGaming thank you for replying to my comment. what I meant is the field texture, like inside of town etc. The texture is worse than the default vanilla. battle texture and world map texture is working fine. Sorry for the language barrier.
Hi, I followed all step by step, but when i launch the game, nothing has changed, is there a new version of Demaster ? maybe because Steam patch 1.0.3, the mod not working
I'm not familiar with how the mods interact with other language versions of the game so the first thing I would check is which version of the Demastered tool you are using. Version 1.3.4 has been causing problems for a lot of people so I would recommend using 1.3.3 instead and see if that fixes things for you.
@@JehoSan. Looking at the file structure of all the mod folders the only ones that may not work correctly for the French version are the icon folders in SeedRemastered since they are all under an "en" folder. If you don't mind some of the text icons being in English you can try copying the "en" folders and renaming the copied folders to "fr". Since you're using Demastered 1.3.3 I don't see any reason why the other mods wouldn't be working for you unless Steam has somehow flagged your game as unofficial since Demastered won't work on unofficial copies of the game. I'm not sure how that is determined.
@@VestikGaming yeah I don't know why but I'm not the only guy who have this issues, there is some post on qhimm but anybody reply them... I used an official steam version of this game
I hope you still see these. So I followed the instructions and the mods show up but I only get a few minutes into the game and then when i get into the class with Squall and Seifer and talk to Quistis, I leave and then the game crashes with an error "an unknown exception has occurred". Do you know what I may have done wrong?
I'm still hanging around! I'll see what I can do on my end to find a fix for the character models acting like that during my breaks at work today. In the meantime, the best option you have is to uninstall the game and delete the mods from your game folder and try a clean install for both of them. Make sure you run the game at least once so that any file setup and initialization happen before installing the mods again. Also make sure you have the correct versions of the mods downloaded. I have seen the character models bug out when the 2013 Tonberry character mods are used for the Remastered version of the game.
When you are installing the mods make sure that these 3 packs are installed in this order: 1. FieldModelTextures 2. Rebirth Flame 3. Lionheart It doesn't matter if you install the other mods before, after, or in between these as long as you don't install Lionheart before Rebirth Flame or Rebirth Flame before FieldModelTextures
I did a clean install on my machine and started a new game to get to the classroom and was unable to see any of the issues you ran into. I installed different versions of some of the mods as well and still wasn't able to see any of your issues. If reinstalling the game and mods doesn't fix your issue then I would recommend going straight to the source and asking McIndus in his Discord chat: discord.gg/3F6zdxXQUT I tried searching for Seifer and Squall models being buggy but I didn't find anything so you may have come across an unknown bug that McIndus and the other modders would be very happy to hear about and look into.
Only for three of them. These mods should be installed in this order: FieldModelTextures mod, then Rebirth Flame, followed by Lionheart. The rest can be installed in any order.
@@VestikGamingThanks for getting back to me, I ended up just redoing it in the same order you did in video. But, I am getting a program error, can't open configuration file.
Thanks for giving the video a watch. I'll see what I can do to help you out. Can you give me a bit more information about your installation process? Did you install the mod files on a fresh install or an existing install of FF8R? If it was a fresh install, did you run the game at least once before attempting to install the mods? Are there any other mods you have installed apart from the ones in this video?
hi thanks for answering me. i have a new pc. "virgin". so it's my first install. no previous patches. and I followed the video perfectly. when i launch the game 2 windows open. that of the Mod and that of the game. if i open the game window i get a black screen
First, I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the game, running it once, and then going through the steps to add the mods again. If that fixes the problem, then we can just blame technology for being weird and inconsistent. If that doesn't work, you can hop into my discord so we can find a time to work together to troubleshoot the issue. discord.gg/CMnqQQgm Or you can jump into MCINDUS Mods discord. He is the creator of these mods, and he already has a bunch of solutions for issues like this. I wasn't able to find anything when I searched earlier but his team is very good at getting people up and running with their mods. discord.gg/cAfJ9sf4
I don't have a Steam Deck to try this on but from what other Steam Deck users have said in the comment once you have finished the drag-and-drop part of the installation and have the game files copied over to your Steam Deck the steps in this link have worked to get things running: steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/3593339057329933860/
Hello, I try to open the game but I get an error saying "A program error has occured, can't open configuration file 'config.txt' "(please note I have never opened the game before)
TMBPlaythroughs posted about this same issue and his solution was to uninstall+reinstall the game. The mods you installed will stay in the game folder so you won't have to reinstall them after you reinstall FF8R. If that doesn't fix the issue then check out this link: steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/1635291505041029048/?ctp=2 It looks like it's a Steam issue and not a mod specific problem with your config.txt file not matching your Steam ID. A user in that thread posted some steps that he used to fix it. Here is the accepted answer: The folder that had the config file in it didn't match up to my Steam ID. When I changed it to the correct number, it was able to open. Go to steamidfinder.com/lookup/ and search for your ID, it's the steamID64 that the folder used. The folder you need to check will be located at C:\Users\...\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered\Steam\{steamID64} ClintStrife also has a post near the bottom of the second page has posted steps that he used to fix it if you want to give those a try. I hope this helps get your game running!
Verify files in steam to restore original launcher, launch game to generate config.txt. Then recopy the demaster files back over to overwrite the launcher again, it will run now
I spent a lot of hours and all of them work except the battlefield one i dont know why :( everything is done like the video, the step at the zzz is a bit weird though is well done, what could it be?
If you haven't already, you can try reinstalling just the Battlefield pack by dragging and dropping the textures folder into the DEMASTER_EXP folder again and overwrite all the Battlefield files again. If you are running the game in a language other than English there may also be some issues there that I'm not aware of. If you still have problems with the Battlefield backgrounds then you can ask for help on the McIndus Discord in the #troubleshooting channel: discord.gg/3F6zdxXQUT The zzz step is weird but thankfully it isn't a required part of the setup if you don't want to use the Gunblade icon or the blue gradient texture.
Thanks for answering! I finally could :), now there is a mod called angel winged or something like that and it modifies all the normal scenarios ( not battlefield ) but it seems not to be available? Hard for me to find and if a find it its something weird, perhaps it is still in development?
Angelwing isn't available for free yet since it isn't complete yet. If you want the HD scenes that have been completed so far you can become a Patreon at www.patreon.com/mcindusmods and download the mod from there. Angelwing will be available to the public for free once it is fully completed. The modder responsible for them has said he expects to be done soon. I'm hoping they will be available by the end of this year.
I followed all instructions but there’s been no change atleast for the horizon pack. When I exit the garden after starting and get to the world map, it’s still default forest, mountain, path, and grass. The game opens without the launcher now. Any idea what I’ve done wrong?
The 2019 Remastered version doesn't have a launcher like the 2013 version does. It should launch directly from Steam after you hit the Play button. You might have the 2013 version of the game. If that's the case, then you should uninstall the game and remove all the mod files before reinstalling. Here is a video I have for installing the Tonberry version of the mods for the 2013 version of the game: ruclips.net/video/tGaI2e3OTaw/видео.html If you do have the Remastered version, then you can try reinstalling the Horizon Pack mods by going into the "DEMASTER_EXP\textures" folder and deleting the "world" folder. After that you can drag and drop the "wolrd" folder from the Horizon Pack files into the "textures" folder. If that doesn't work, then I would recommend doing a fresh install of both the game and the mods.
@@VestikGamingsorry about bothering you I’m on steam deck and the link you commented to another person fixed it. I just had to enter in a launch command smh. But hey it works, so thank you.
@sureshot26 No problem, I'm here to be bothered! I'm glad you got it working! Since that link seems to be working for Steam Deck users, I've added it to the video description. Thanks for commenting back about your fix, it makes it possible for me to continue to improve my video for future viewers!
There are other software like ReShade that can stretch the image to 16:9 but there isn't a true 16:9 conversion mod available right now. I'm not sure about minimum specs but I run this on a machine with a 1050 Ti, 8 GB of RAM, and a lower end CPU and it handles everything just fine.
Yes they do. The only mod that is English only is the SeeDRemastered UI v1.0 mod pack. This mod will change some Spanish text to English. If you are ok with that then you can use it, otherwise skip installing this mod.
@@VestikGaming Hello again, I would like to ask you a question. Do you recommend me to play this version with this mod or the original version with mods?
@katomidubs I see you found the Tonberry Enhanced video for the 2013 version on my other channel! Right now, I would recommend the original 2013 version with the Tonberry Enhanced mods over the Remastered version with the Lunatic Pandora mods right. The 2013 version has less bugs, is more stable, and has all of the mods available for free as well as some customizable texture packs you can play around with. Once the Angelwing mod for Remastered is completed and available for free I'll probably change my answer. In the end it depends on what you are looking for and what you have available to you. The rest of the answer is a copy/paste from my answer from the other video. ---------------------------------- 2013 is more stable with very few bugs that you might encounter in a playthrough. The 2013 graphical mods are very similar compared to the Remastered mods that are available for free right now. For me, the free availability of the Angelwing mod pack and absence of significant gameplay bugs are what really push 2013 over the top. However, if you do encounter an issue where there are backgrounds or models that have been missed then don't expect it to be added to the mods anytime soon since most of the FF8 modders are now working on Remastered. That being said, if you are a Patreon supporter and have access to any updated mod packs that may be available to Patreons along with the Remastered Angelwing pack then you can arguably make it look and feel better than the 2013 version. There are extra steps to take care of some game-breaking bugs that have been found with modded character models as well as a couple of other things that, to my knowledge, are only available on through Discord links at the moment.
@@VestikGaming Exactly! Your videos are of great help to me. Once again, thank you very much for your answer, it was very helpful. I will take the 2013 version with mods. Greetings from Uruguay bro
I pulled these files from the McIndus Discord from Iflyte. Make sure you put them in the correct language folder before you copy them over to the DEMASTER_EXP folder. I have the folders set up to replace the PS icons for the English version of the game. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1XF_mZU0pLR3w-4gMim9lOrSeM5WLxjzp?usp=sharing
Strange. Did it get blocked when you tried to download it or when you tried to run it? If you have the user/admin privileges and you already have it downloaded, then you can add it to the whitelist for both your antivirus and firewall and it should run normally. You would need the same user/admin privileges to fix the issue if you are having problems downloading it except this time you would need to disable or adjust the antivirus and firewall security settings to allow the download to complete and then enable or readjust them again once it's finished. One last thing to check would be if you are running Windows 11 S. That version of windows doesn't like you doing anything with applications outside of the Windows Store and could also be causing the problems you're having. Those are some generic things you can try but searching how to change your settings for the specific antivirus and firewall you use would be quicker than trying to troubleshoot through replies.
Followed step by step. Your guide itself is great, but im having issues. Everybody has invisible weapons and while im only at the very start of the game, Balamb looks like complete ass. The outside world isnt bad and i can tell the mods worked. But if i run back into balamb, its UGLY.
These textures are only the ones available for free to the public through the QHIMM forums which don't include the Garden/Towns/Dungeon backgrounds. Those files are available for Patreons at www.patreon.com/mcindusmods I'm not sure why your weapons are invisible. When I run into similar problems, I try reinstalling the mod that is causing problems to see if something happened during the file replacement.
With this copy and replace method from PC to Steam Deck, I'm getting error: 3889861889 : 337 can't open configuration file : "config.txt" when launching the game in Steam Deck. On the other hand, if I install the mods directly within Steam Deck, only AngelWing works but none of the other texture mods. Any thoughts?
Here are a few things you can try to get your game working on Steam Deck. Remember, if you didn't run the game before installing the mods it's possible that the config.txt file was unable to configure itself properly. Here's the list of possible fixes. 1 - For the PC -> Steam Deck issue your Steam ID isn't matching the ID in the config.txt. There is a thread about this same issue here, steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/1635291505041029048/ You can also find your Steam ID by following the steps here, help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/2816-BE67-5B69-0FEC Once you have your Steam ID you will need to replace the ID in the config.txt file with your Steam ID. 2 - I'm not familiar with directly installing the mods onto Steam Deck but there was a commenter last month that was able to figure it out. unheardsgn posted these steps: Downloaded all the mods Downloaded the demaster patch and the demaster Extracted the demaster files into the main ff8 directory Overwrote the two files in there with the patch files one was a config and something else. Then added demaster manage as non steam game It opened it, installed it and made the demaster directory in the main ff8 directory. Copied all the texture folders in each mod pack into the texture folder in demaster. They were written in and overwrote some files. Added 'export WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b"; %command%' prompt into the launcher. 3 - If nothing above works, you can try doing a clean install of the game and mods to see if that fixes it.
This list of mods doesn't have a fullscreen fix. However, ReShade is an application that will "stretch" the game to fullscreen. Depending on the resolution you are playing on you can try either of these links and fiddle around with the ReShade setting to find something that works for you. ReShade at 1920x1080p gameplay.tips/guides/5183-final-fantasy-viii-remastered.html ReShade at 4K 3840x2160 www.reddit.com/r/FinalFantasyVIII/comments/d003cn/final_fantasy_viii_remastered_widescreen_fix/
Does anyone know if there is a mod that improves the background? because it's a nightmare to see the characters in high definition with the screen blurry to death
I installed these mods and my game crashes whenever I get to the part in the prison when Irvine shows up. only his clothes appear and the rest of him is invisible and it crashes after that scene.
@@VestikGaming I did find it thank you. Just felt it would be good to have a visual or even a mention in the video that all you need to do is drag over the files just like the rest. Felt strange to have it mentioned and shown without any real instructions. That being said great video and thank you for all the help.
@@1upVODS I removed that portion of the video that goes over how to extract it from an older version of the mod files because it caused a lot of confusion for people. I'm glad the video was able to help you!
These mods or only for the Remastered version of the game. There is another mod pack for the original version. The files can be found here: forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=17322.0 I have another video covering how to install the Tonberry mods here: ruclips.net/video/tGaI2e3OTaw/видео.html Steam Deck steps are covered in this link: steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/3593339057329933860/
Once you have started up the game press the Escape key on your keyboard to bring up the settings menu. From there select "Game Options" -> "System". Set your Display Mode to Windowed or Borderless Windowed and if you need a smaller screen then adjust your Resolution to something that works for you. Hope that helps!
Yes it is! You can pick and choose which mods you want to install. Keep in mind that these mods should be installed in this order: FieldModelTextures -> Rebirth Flame -> Lionheart. For example, if you don't want Rebirth Flame then you would still need to install FieldModelTextures before Lionheart. The rest of the mods can be installed in any order.
I have a problem, i load my save file and im insida the garden (lit the first save point) and its all pixelated, idk why its worse than the vanilla remastered, maybe i download the wrong link? Do you which mod does this?
This video only covered the mods that are currently available for free. If the character models and menus look updated then all the mods from this video should be installed. The background mod is called Angelwing and you can find it at the creators Patreon for the $2 membership: www.patreon.com/mcindusmods
@@VestikGaming i read that page but it wasn't very helpful. it says mod the game on your pc and copy the files. I don't have a pc only a steamdeck so I wondered if theres any guides or help out there for what I need to do to start and how I do it step by step
Once you run the ffviii_demaster_manager file from version 1.3.3 you can drag and drop the 1.3.5 dll file in your game folder to replace the ff8_demaster.dll file. I haven't tried installing the mods with version 1.3.5 yet so I don't know what the differences will be or how everything is expected to work with it.
"A program error has occured. Error: 3889861889 : 337 can't open configuration file : 'config.text'" Thats what comes out when I click FFVIII launcher, what happens?!!
I don't have a Steam Deck myself but if I understand the process correctly you can add the mods using your PC, load the game with the mods into your Steam Deck, and follow these steps to get it working: steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/3593339057329933860/
@@VestikGaming I've actually just got it working I think but I can't tell because there's no way to compare the textures to the old. I don't have the blue background and the gun blade icon but I can tell you this. Everything was spot on except opening the Demaster manager exe file but I figured it out. I had to add Demaster.exe as non steam game, enable force proton and then it unpacked. After the launcher opened I x off like you said and followed the rest to a T. At first it kept crashing on launch so I verified integrity of files, one failed, cleared download cache in steam settings then it launched. Looks pretty good but I'm bummed out no voice. Luckily I literally purchased both versions so I'm going to do 2013 next. 😂
Its actually not lunatic Pandora. A lunatic is a crazy person. Its actually pronounced "loon-attic". Lunatic means it originates from the moon, or it comes from
Progress has been very slow. McIndus is still active on his discord and has done a few streams over these last few months to show off what he is working on but most of the recent work has been updating the current mods to be compatible with the FFNx installer.
This makes the game so much worse due to the stark contrast between updated textures and the old pixelayed textures still being present. The remaster already ruins the game with the terrible updated character models, especially with squall looking like a kingdom hearts reject with that pseudo anime style. The best way to play this game is with the original PC port, as it keeps the heart of the game in tact while making the game look a bit better graphically without looking jarring. The only downside here is the heavy reduction in music quality, which can be fixed by a single mod. The original and pc port is just leagues better than this, this is doing waaaay too much to the point where it just looks like a mess, and causes the game to look noticeably worse with all the contrast, rather than uniform and retaining its charm.
Yuk they didnt change the model of typical Kpop character from dissidia... they shouldnt change the original especially when the cinematic are still with the original design
@@ewh88it’s not that, you physically can’t change as much in 8 as you can in 7. With 7, we are literally able to make our own game using it as a template, change animations, models, backgrounds, walk meshes, restructure any and all game events, have them play in any order we want, change who is in each scene, what they say and even what actions they take, as well as being able to 100% replace models with anything that fits the skeleton, which we can also change and even make custom battle animations. With 8, it’s vastly more primitive, partly due to how the game is structured, to the modding community simply not being as interested in creating deep tools and resources.
@@ewh88 In that you cannot physically do anywhere near as much or in as deep as you can with FF7 or FF9. To put it in other ways, FF7 is like Photoshop in which you can create virtually anything you want. FF8 is like Microsoft Paint, sure you CAN change some things, but you are constantly fighting to do it and a single misclick and ruin the entire picture. For instance, with Final Fantasy 7, due to the .hrc file system, each individual body part is its own separate model and we can freely change that to be whatever we want and change the .hrc itself to be usable with different animations or use whatever we stick in there with 0 issues provided it's a compatible 3D model and texture, which there's many tools that exist to straight up convert models from 3D modelling software such as Blender, then we import it into Kimera, load the custom texture, and voila. With Final Fantasy 8, the entire model is a single model and you can't really CHANGE the model without the game having a heart attack, you can however tweak details about it, such as the textures, and from this, you also cannot do things like change the animations. You could do a straight swap, such as replacing Squall with Seifer in battle, but if you try to do that in the field, Seifer isn't compatible with Squall's animations and it will crash the game during multiple story events. Whereas with FF7, you can easily replace Cloud with Sephiroth and there's even tools to tell it to automatically change what animations are used for Cloud within the flevel.lgp (The file that has all of the levels, backgrounds and dialogue in it) Within the flevel.lgp are all of the field levels, such as Midgar Sector 7 Slums, Seventh Heaven, Costa Del Sol, etc. And within that is a set of each "actor" in the scene, and they all have their own subset of animations that they use. Cloud's skeleton uses "Type A" field animations, which are used by about 85% of the NPCs. Sephiroth however is a Type B, so if you simply tried to directly change the animations themselves in the char.lgp, it would destroy the game. You have to go into the flevel.lgp, then specifically change which animations Cloud uses, however there's tools that lets you do this in a couple hours. (There's over 200 scenes in the flevel.lgp and you have to go into each individual one to alter them, but we USED to have to change it with basic tools like a hex editor in which we don't even have a GUI, and with the hex editor, it could be an hour to simply FIND the scene you want to edit and you'd be working on it for literal weeks.)
The .zzz portion of the video is not causing problems and is a completely optional portion of the video. It is specifically used to pull out the Gunblade Cursor and the Blue Gradient Background files from the SeedRemastered-UI v1.0 files, or any other textures that were available in the 2013 version of the game that one might want to try and use in the Remastered version to allow further customization of the game. The Lunatic Pandora mods are simply drag-and-drop in order to get them working. When this video was created the SeeDRemastered-FULL v1.2 (EN) DEMASTER Version files did not have the Gunblade icon or Blue Gradient texture mods included. When v1.2 is updated in the future then this portion of the video will be outdated for those specific files, but it still allows you to pull in other files from the older mod files. However, as of this comment, the v1.2 files still do not have the Gunblade Cursor or the Blue Gradient Background included so in order to pull those out and use them this is the best way I could come up with while using the current state of the Lunatic Pandora mods on the QHIMM forums. If there is a better way to get these textures into the game I am all ears and will update the video description accordingly.
I've simplified the video a bit. If you would like the Gunblade Cursor and/or the Blue Gradient textures you can download them here: drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/1J-MYxTBRJK4pIPMdzZTHuB75UHAfjAUn
Steam Deck users will need to follow a few extra steps to get the mods working that can be found here: steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/3593339057329933860/
I've created another channel specifically for my video game guides where I will be uploading this video in the future so it doesn't get mixed in with my playthroughs and end up lost forever. I'll leave this guide here since it seems to be getting some traction but all future guides will be uploaded to youtube.com/@VestikStudio.
it looks worst
My texture is very pixelated with battlefield mod, please help
@alphaomega1969 There are two background mod packs. Battlefield is only for the backgrounds in random encounters and boss fights. The other mod pack is Anglewing which is only available on the modder's Patreon and hasn't been released to the public yet. Anglewing is for the backgrounds outside of battle like Balamb Garden, Fire Cavern, and the towns. If those backgrounds are the pixelated ones you are talking about and you want to run them with your game they are available at the McIndus Patreon for the $2 option here: www.patreon.com/mcindusmods
If it is the Battlefield backgrounds that are pixelated there are a few things you can verify that may have interfered with your textures.
Glad it helped! I'm very excited for those backgrounds to be released, too.
Thanks for the tutorial! I hope you don't mind I linked this video in the description of my FF8 playlist to give you and the modding community the credit ya'll deserve!
Of course, that's fine. I'm glad the video was able to help you out.
Wow dude thanks. You simplified it and made it easy for my 40 y/o brain to understand. I can play FF8 again now the way it was meant to look. Cheers.
Pretty cool! I'd love to replay the game with these mods
Thanks a lot for the step by step tutorial! It made the installation process so much easier!
Glad it helped!
Thanks Man! I'll be streaming this game for the first time after just finishing this! Very relaxing tutorial sir!
That's awesome! Hope you have a great playthrough!
Thanks for this, there's not much info regarding modding FF8 compared to FF7 and FF9.
Maybe once these mods are finally complete, we will start seeing more modders use them as a base and we can start to enjoy the variety of mods that FF7 and FF9 have. Fingers crossed!
Love your tutorial and how organized you made the mod installation files!
Glad it was helpful!
Square didn't care about FF8 they discarded it like trash, nice to see the mods bring it to life. 💙
The game was half baked. They would need a full rewrite to fix it and flesh it out. Lots of questionable choices too that leave a bad taste in the mouth like subjecting new players to timelimits that do not stop even in the menus with unclear penalties and rewards. It is understandable that they just don't want to go there.
Thanks for the video, this is my first time ever modding something and i had no idea what i was supposed to do to get project angelwing to work lol
Good stuff my man. Just followed this step by step
Your awesome. Thanks to the modding community as well!
This makes replaying this game even more likely for me :) Been considering it over the years.
This is the real remastered
Amazing video, thank you very much!
Easy to follow without any unnecessary tangents. Very well done!
Hope, we'll soon get the missing backgrounds as well.
.
I have one or rather two questions though:
- is there any way to change the resolution after installing the modified installer? When i click on the game in Steam it jumps right into the game.
- are there any other known mods that enable widescreen support? I play in fullscreen mode with native monitor resolution yet the game only plays in a "square" in the middle of the screen.
Thanks for the positive feedback!
For your first question you can change the resolution after the game is launched by pressing your Escape key to bring up the configuration menu and adjust your game setting from there.
As far as I know there isn't an authentic full screen mod yet, but you should be able to use ReShade to stretch the image. reshade.me/
Here is a ReShade guide for the 2013 FF8 version. You may have to play with the settings a little to get the game to look how you want it. forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=18415.0
You can also try searching (do we still say Googling?) for "reshade final fantasy 8 remaster" and you will get a bunch of hits with other guides and recommended settings for fixing the black bars on the sides of the game.
Thanks for taking the time to post your findings! That's awesome!
Awesome tutorial! Thanks alot! ^^
Thank you for this guide, testing now.
Thats why you buy a gaming pc too
Agree totally I don’t understand
I still have my PSX physical copy, and if I want to play ff8 again I'll emulate it and upscale it, not going to give them money for this cashgrab
Its coz square is too lazy for remastering ff8 they prefer doing the ff16 shit
Is there a 60fps mod? I know FF7 had one through 7thHeaven
Or do I have to use special K to boost the fps?
Also, good tutorial I was able to pack everything in there easily.
I'm glad the video helped you out! Unfortunately, there is no 60fps mod yet.
I had fun following this guide for disc 1. I got stuck with multiple game crashes at start of disc 2, to the point using these mods make playing through the whole game impossible. I went and actually read the forum thread for these mods, and found the project was abandoned years ago. So please do not use these mods. I lost a lot of hours to this
Great tutorial, thanks! Can this be installed on Steam Deck? Maybe copy/replace entire folder on Steam Deck after doing all this on PC?
It seems like that would work. Here is a Steam post about getting the mods running on the Steam Deck: steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/3593339057329933860/

That's fair. I get where you're coming from.
Followed exactly and no changes, demaster manager also wants to re-unpack every time I open it, even if no changes have been made after the mods got "installed".
Ty soooo much for this guide for dummies!
Does this mod fix the insane amount of bugs that the remaster version on steam has? Thanks for the detailed guide 👏🏻
These mods fix some of the graphics bugs but as far as I'm aware they don't fix any of the other gameplay bugs.
According to what he has shared on his Discord chats he expects to have them finished and released for everyone within a few months.
excelent tutorial thank you
Thank you for the kind words!
this modding is considerably easy compared to the hassle of FF7....wish these mods worked on the android versions of the FF games like the KOTOR games...

I'll add a few suggestions and reminders below but if they don't work then jump into my Discord and we can dig down into specifics to get things working for you. discord.gg/nzh4VrZa
1. These mods only work with FF8 Remastered (2019) and not the original (2013) release of the game. There is a different set of mods for the 2013 game version. _Video Coming Soonᵗᵐ_
After looking into this with Richard we were able to find that the mods did install correctly but since the Remastered version of these mods aren't 100% complete the backgrounds in question, like Balamb Garden, aren't included in the "free" public download files yet.
thx bro
thank you so much
maybe i am missing something but i followed your steps and for some reason i cant get any of the mods to work
That's no good.
In the launch command box, write:
export WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b"; %command%
Let us know if it worked for you! It worked for me, both in my laptop and Steam Deck.
Is there no way to install mods to enhance the look of the cities you enter? I am in the first mission in Dollet and the city I'm walking through just looks horrible. I did everything you did in this video and I notice the textures have not changed for this for example
The mods aren't 100% complete and the mod you are talking about that has the HD backgrounds for Balamb Garden and the towns aren't included in this video because they are currently only available at the creators Patreon with a SeeD membership ($2) www.patreon.com/mcindusmods
He is currently working on getting a public version released in the very near future according to messages on his Discord so if Patreon isn't an option for you then you can wait for the public release of Angelwing that should be happening in the next week or two barring any delays on the modder's end of things.
@@VestikGaming thanks for the reply. I did eventually figure this out in the midst of my drunken confusion last night lmao. I decided to pay the bloke the highest tier of $5 to his patreon since this stuff is really impressive and he deserves a lot more tbh.
The Horizon pack Mountain looks like a big rock instead of Mountain, otherwise I like everything else
Also, Why the F can't we have a Moguri Mod like modding. How long has it been?
Moguri is a masterpiece! I'm not familiar with how long it took to put the full Moguri mod package together or how many people contributed but I'm just glad we have a group of dedicated and skilled people willing to put time into improving these games. Once the final version of this FF8 mod is out it should open the door for more modders to publish original background art and content for the game that can make it look even better! Once that starts to happen, I'm hoping we can see some mods that bring everything up to Moguri standards.

If all the other mods are working then I'm not sure why that one isn't showing up for you
Thx a lot !
Finger > Gunblade Icon
Can we keep the rest of the other benefits but keep the finger?
Yes you can! SeeDRemastered v1.2 doesn't have the blue gradient background or the Gunblade icon included in its texture files for some reason. If you want to keep the original grey menu and dialog backgrounds and the finger icon then you only have to install SeeDRemastered v1.2
If you want the blue gradient backgrounds and not the Gunblade icon then follow the instructions in the video starting at 16:50 to download SeeDRemastered v1.0 and unpack that using the zzzDeArchive Tool. At about the 22:20 mark there are two files I replace in the iconfl01.tex folder. The first one is the background file and the second one is the Gunblade icon. Don't replace the second file and you will have the blue backgrounds and keep the Finger icon.

Does this include a60 fps mod? Similar to 7th Heaven mods for ff7?
These are just graphics and texture mods. I'm not aware of any 60 FPS mods that are available for this game yet.
Is there any texture mod for the scenarios? not for those in the open world, but for those in cities and others
Currently those are being worked on and are only available for early access on Patreon: www.patreon.com/join/mcindusmods

You are a angel! Ty you sooooo much for this video, i gotted the FF8 remastered (but is so ugly =/ ) and now you saved my day
Sorry it's not working for you. I can try to do some simple troubleshooting here in chat but if it gets complicated then you will need to go to the McIndus Mod Discord and get help from him: discord.gg/3F6zdxXQUT
Are you using the 1.3.3 version of Demastered?
@@VestikGaming ty so much again, im gonna try your idea, sorry for any trouble =/

There are also a few more steps to get the mods working if you are trying to get things working on Steam Deck: steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/3593339057329933860/
I'm currently in the process of editing this video to cut out the optional zzzDeArchive portions and replace those parts with a link to download the Gunblade and Gradient textures instead of you having to extract them yourself.
I'll be adding this link in the description as soon as the video edits are done but if you wanted the Gunblade and Gradient files, here they are:
drive.google.com/drive/folders/1J-MYxTBRJK4pIPMdzZTHuB75UHAfjAUn?usp=sharing

I think I am on 2013 version as I bought it originally when first come out on steam
These mods are specifically for the Remastered version that was released in 2019. The original Final Fantasy version has a different file structure and doesn't have the .zzz files. Hello i don't have any .zzz file in my FF8 local files, do you know why ? I can't unpack game files...
It sounds like the game files you are trying to mod are the 2013 version of the game and not the Remastered version. Double check your game folder file path. It should be "...\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered". The .zzz files are included in the base install of FF8 Remastered.
If you are using the 2013 version and your game folder path looks like this "...\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VIII" then you will want to use the Tonberry Enhanced version of these mods. all working but field background is low res. is there an option tu turn it to HD?
The background mods are currently a work in progress. McIndus, the modder who is largely responsible for these mods, has said he will probably be releasing the background pack sometime this year for everyone to use for free. Right now the only way I know of getting the HD background images for Remaster is by supporting his Patreon and downloading them from there.
There are already upscaled backgrounds for the 2013 Steam version of the game that you might be able to use. forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=17541.0
I haven't tried using the 2013 HD backgrounds so you would have to browse the comments in the forum link to see if anyone has been able to make them work for the Remastered version.
@@VestikGaming I see, I tought it was included because by the looks of your video, all field background already upscaled.
Here are a few things you can check and try to see if they help fix your issue:
Double check that you downloaded the correct HorizonPack mod.
@@VestikGaming I used the 1.3.3 version
@@JehoSan. I am still looking for a solution for this but I haven't found anything yet. Have you tried installing all the mods EXCEPT SeedRemastered?
I hope you still see these. So I followed the instructions and the mods show up but I only get a few minutes into the game and then when i get into the class with Squall and Seifer and talk to Quistis, I leave and then the game crashes with an error "an unknown exception has occurred". Do you know what I may have done wrong?
And I forgot to mention that once I enter the classroom, Squall and Seifer's character models arfe very glitchy and have nude or black textures.
When you are installing the mods make sure that these 3 packs are installed in this order:
1. FieldModelTextures
2. Rebirth Flame
3. Lionheart
It doesn't matter if you install the other mods before, after, or in between these as long as you don't install Lionheart before Rebirth Flame or Rebirth Flame before FieldModelTextures
I did a clean install on my machine and started a new game to get to the classroom and was unable to see any of the issues you ran into. I installed different versions of some of the mods as well and still wasn't able to see any of your issues. If reinstalling the game and mods doesn't fix your issue then I would recommend going straight to the source and asking McIndus in his Discord chat: discord.gg/3F6zdxXQUT
I tried searching for Seifer and Squall models being buggy but I didn't find anything so you may have come across an unknown bug that McIndus and the other modders would be very happy to hear about and look into.
Does the order you add the texture folders matter?

First, I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the game, running it once, and then going through the steps to add the mods again. If that fixes the problem, then we can just blame technology for being weird and inconsistent.
If that doesn't work, you can hop into my discord so we can find a time to work together to troubleshoot the issue. discord.gg/CMnqQQgm

Is there a way to do this on the steam deck?

If that doesn't fix the issue then check out this link: steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/1635291505041029048/?ctp=2
It looks like it's a Steam issue and not a mod specific problem with your config.txt file not matching your Steam ID. A user in that thread posted some steps that he used to fix it.
Here is the accepted answer:
The folder that had the config file in it didn't match up to my Steam ID. When I changed it to the correct number, it was able to open. Go to steamidfinder.com/lookup/ and search for your ID, it's the steamID64 that the folder used.
The folder you need to check will be located at C:\Users\...\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered\Steam\{steamID64}
ClintStrife also has a post near the bottom of the second page has posted steps that he used to fix it if you want to give those a try.
If you still have problems with the Battlefield backgrounds then you can ask for help on the McIndus Discord in the #troubleshooting channel: discord.gg/3F6zdxXQUT
The zzz step is weird but thankfully it isn't a required part of the setup if you don't want to use the Gunblade icon or the blue gradient texture.
@@VestikGaming Thanks!! ^^
Here is a video I have for installing the Tonberry version of the mods for the 2013 version of the game: ruclips.net/video/tGaI2e3OTaw/видео.html
If you do have the Remastered version, then you can try reinstalling the Horizon Pack mods by going into the "DEMASTER_EXP\textures" folder and deleting the "world" folder.
What minimum specs would you recommend for this? and can it be 16:9?
There are other software like ReShade that can stretch the image to 16:9 but there isn't a true 16:9 conversion mod available right now.
I'm not sure about minimum specs but I run this on a machine with a 1050 Ti, 8 GB of RAM, and a lower end CPU and it handles everything just fine.
Hello, How are you? Does this mod work if I have the game in Spanish?
Yes they do. The only mod that is English only is the SeeDRemastered UI v1.0 mod pack. This mod will change some Spanish text to English. If you are ok with that then you can use it, otherwise skip installing this mod.
@@VestikGamingThanks very much buddy c:
----------------------------------
2013 is more stable with very few bugs that you might encounter in a playthrough.

How to install on steamdeck ?
Follow the steps in this post: steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/3593339057329933860/
Not sure why but both my antivirus and fire wall both completely blocked the FF8 Demastered Tool.
Those files are available for Patreons at www.patreon.com/mcindusmods
I'm not sure why your weapons are invisible.
There is a thread about this same issue here, steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/1635291505041029048/
You can also find your Steam ID by following the steps here, help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/2816-BE67-5B69-0FEC
Once you have your Steam ID you will need to replace the ID in the config.txt file with your Steam ID.
2 - I'm not familiar with directly installing the mods onto Steam Deck but there was a commenter last month that was able to figure it out. unheardsgn posted these steps:
Downloaded all the mods
Downloaded the demaster patch and the demaster
Extracted the demaster files into the main ff8 directory
Overwrote the two files in there with the patch files one was a config and something else.
Then added demaster manage as non steam game
It opened it, installed it and made the demaster directory in the main ff8 directory.
But the bad thing on ff8 remastered is no option of full screen view
Hi ! Can we play the game on fullscreen with theses mods?
This list of mods doesn't have a fullscreen fix. However, ReShade is an application that will "stretch" the game to fullscreen. Depending on the resolution you are playing on you can try either of these links and fiddle around with the ReShade setting to find something that works for you.

I installed these mods and my game crashes whenever I get to the part in the prison when Irvine shows up. only his clothes appear and the rest of him is invisible and it crashes after that scene.

does anyone know if theres a way to play it windowed with all the mods installed? thank you in advance

Is it okay to only install certain mods?

Progress has been very slow. McIndus is still active on his discord and has done a few streams over these last few months to show off what he is working on but most of the recent work has been updating the current mods to be compatible with the FFNx installer.
@@VestikGaming I rarely use social media so I didn't know that he still worked on it, thanks for the info.
The original and pc port is just leagues better than this, this is doing waaaay too much to the point where it just looks like a mess, and causes the game to look noticeably worse with all the contrast, rather than uniform and retaining its charm.
an unknown exception has occurred > games broke lol
Sorry it's not working for you. I can try to do some simple troubleshooting here in chat but if it gets complicated then you will need to go to the McIndus Mod Discord and get help from him: discord.gg/3F6zdxXQUT
Are you using the 1.3.3 version of Demastered?
Yuk they didnt change the model of typical Kpop character from dissidia... they shouldnt change the original especially when the cinematic are still with the original design
That is absolutely not how you say Balamb... All those mods for absolutely no gain... That looks worse than the original on the Playstation.
I hate how you say baylamn

Ew, Remastered? That version is dogshyte. Even with all these mods, Squall still looks like a crossdressing cosplayer. Terrible.
Not good as FF7 mods
Think they’re not trying to go too over the top here.
@@MalachiLper how is it more primitive if I may ask?
Whereas with FF7, you can easily replace Cloud with Sephiroth and there's even tools to tell it to automatically change what animations are used for Cloud within the flevel.lgp (The file that has all of the levels, backgrounds and dialogue in it)
Within the flevel.lgp are all of the field levels, such as Midgar Sector 7 Slums, Seventh Heaven, Costa Del Sol, etc.
(There's over 200 scenes in the flevel.lgp and you have to go into each individual one to alter them, but we USED to have to change it with basic tools like a hex editor in which we don't even have a GUI, and with the hex editor, it could be an hour to simply FIND the scene you want to edit and you'd be working on it for literal weeks.)
the .zzz editing causes troubles - one should not follow that specific part of the Video!
