FF8 is permanently my favorite game. The crazy thing to me is how the amount of “cut” content is almost as big as the actual game. Image how much more fleshed out it could be
@ it isn’t, the whole game is about fate. The orphanage reveal perfectly perpetuates this. Everything is meant to happen, by design as per fate via ellones junction ability in the hands of Ultimeica, who in trying to prevent her known demise, brings it about by trying to interfere. It’s very Macbeth. People that think the story doesn’t makes sense do so because they failed to understand the key component of the story, fate.
@@ItsSVO Then why wasn't fate the resounding theme. There was little to no build up to the orphanage reveal. It just got dropped in our laps. Maybe if Squall and company were from Esther, that would make some sense. Final Fantasy VIII has as much cut content as VII when it comes to the game's plot. Don't act like it's perfect. If you like it enough, you should be able to acknowledge the game's flaws.
FF VIII has been my all time favourite game since I was 12. Im now 35. I would love... loooove the remake treatment. To see the characters and world I adore fleshed out like remake would be a dream. However I tend to agree with sentiment in the video that its unlikely to get a remake. The game was always one of the black sheeps on the FF roster. Not only was the junctions system collectively hated apart from the cult followers like me. But people had issue with the setting, the story and even some characters. Its fair to say their are a lot of fans of FF 8, but not nearly on the popularity scale as FF 7.
i was 8 when getting it :D same here^^ but somehow i still managed it but i never really unterstood the story back than, but now i know the story and must say its still my favorit FF
FF8 is also my favourite of all FF, the story, music, the gfs appearance, the cutscenes etc etc for me the most epic too I really lived that game felt part of it
FF8 is my favorite FF game of all time. It deserves a remake. Even people are giving it another chance after years of hating it, coming to the conclusion that they actually love the game. And they too, are begging for a remake. I don't understand why SE is so hesitant on making this possible. It's so popular. It's a great game. It is deserving.
If they remake FF8, I want the FF8 Yoshinori Kitase wanted to make, not the game we got. Kitase has said in interviews that he had to cut 50% of the games story and content because they ran out of time. Originally, the game was going to be 50% Squall and 50% Laguna, with Laguna having his own world map and way more story events. That's the game I want.
Hi, I’ve been thinking a lot about *Final Fantasy VIII* and I truly believe the best way to revitalize it would be to transform it into a live-action series. I know it sounds unconventional, but the story has everything needed to create a compelling, character-driven show. Just think about it-Squall’s backstory, his mysterious childhood, and his connections to key figures like Ellone, Edea, Laguna, and Rinoa offer so much depth. The relationships are complex, the world is rich with lore, and it would translate beautifully into episodic storytelling with room to explore these intricate dynamics. Take Sorceress Adel, for example. In this reimagining, we dive deeper into her origins. Magic is now referred to as "Hyne’s Magic," a divine yet cursed gift. It grants sorceresses immortality, but the longer they hold onto it, the more they become like Hyne-a powerful but corrupt and monstrous figure. To avoid this fate, sorceresses traditionally pass their powers to others. In this version, Adel seeks to break that cycle. She views Ellone’s time-manipulating abilities as her key to passing her powers back to her younger self, creating an eternal loop where she rules forever, untouched by time. This adds layers to Adel’s character while expanding the mythology of the world. Moreover, Adel herself could be a remnant of Centra, a civilization thought to be lost, giving her a tragic backstory linked to history’s forgotten ruins. If anyone’s interested, I’d love to discuss this further and present the pilot I’ve been working on. The first episode explores key moments, like: - **Act 1**: Laguna and Julia (*Squall’s Dream*) - **Act 2**: Dollet SeeD Field Test (*Squall Awakens*) - **Act 3**: Balamb Garden (*Who is Ellone?*) - **Act 4**: SeeD Inauguration Ball (*Rinoa’s Introduction*) There’s so much potential here to build an engaging, emotionally rich series! Let’s bring *Final Fantasy VIII* back in a way that resonates with today’s audience.
I think I have some very good ideas on how to rework FF8 systems in a remake. 1. Remove the Draw command, but keep the Draw system. Instead of being an active command, Squall (Since he’s the mandatory character) automatically Draws from enemies when they’re defeated. Each draw would max out at 1 instead of 100, and all 3 party members could use the same Draw simultaneously. This removes the tedious and time-consuming act of manually drawing 300 spells, but keeps the excitement of maybe finding a new Draw if you come across new enemies. 2. Keep the Junction system, but clean up the UI. When you select a stat to Junction, the list of Draws you can use should be listed in order from what boosts that specific stat the most to what boosts it the least, instead of a random order. Additionally, color/highlight Draws that are the #1 Draw for multiple stats, and list which stats and how much each stat changes so you can make priority decisions more easily. 3. Because of how the new Draw system would work, it would be completely decoupled from the Magic system, and thus Magic would actually become useable. 4. Limit breaks should honestly just work like FF7 or FF10. 5. Expand upon the weapon progression system. We need more than 4 weapons per character for an entire game. It could potentially go hand-in-hand with the new Draw system in terms of farming. 6. Make GFs more relevant outside of being conduits for stats. It doesn’t feel good to get a new GF and then basically never summon it. Just these few things would massively improve the gameplay, I think.
Ben is so precious. I love him. FF8 was also my frst experience and introduction to the series, so I have special feelings about it. Either we see a remake in maybe 20 years, or fans should start a petition to remake it! :)
FF8 would be so amazing as a remake. With a streamlined junction system, they could make it more intuitive and then sell a new audience on the epic story and characters. And that CARD GAME, Am I right?
Everybody says seven is the greatest Final Fantasy game ever because it's the cool thing to say. And you seem like you know what you are talking about if you say that. But 8 is the best
@@Kitth3nI agree, FF7 is definitely not overrated, I would say the issue is 8 is underrated. 7 and 8 are both amazing. 8 just gets unnecessary hate from people who probably haven’t even played it.
They're completely right that other fans being excited definitely gets new people to play the game. I got into FF during the FF15 presentation that had all the off shoot announcments like Aaron Paul in their movie and the amount of hype behind it definitely made me want to take part in it
Nice to see a fellow man of culture appreciate Final Fantasy VIII. Personally, I don't trust Square Enix to remake VIII but maybe they'll change my opinion if IX is done well. If they're looking to remake or revisit a Final Fantasy from the days of yonder I'd suggest Final Fantasy II. I think there was a lot there to explore. The Dawn of Souls content and an After Years type follow-up would be really cool. A note to whoever does these RUclips clips, could you actually put who the people are in the summary? I had to hop on the Google machine and figure out that this person was Ben Starr.
Square enix could experiment by re-releasing the game with full voice acting. If it does well, it could convince them to at least do an expanded story.
I've read the article and laugh 😂. It because of budget they said😅. And when 7 is over, when someone decide to pick another number to do remake, Kitase suddenly said NO!😂 Traumatic of FFVII remake they said😂 I mean, Who TOLD YOU to do remake in 3 sequel and change the concept into multiverse and put nonsense of to many mini game/side story😂 (Anyway, sorry for my bad english)
We'll get it soon. I can still wait 1à years. AI and programming will be so powerful we'll get at least a top notch remastered version for sure fingers crossed
They still need to recreate everything from the ground up in what ever engine they're using. So that would still take time and resources. If everything was already pre created, (like not have RE2 remake RPD skin for Leon in RE4 remake from day 1. The Modelis already pre existing, it's just a matter of porting it) then that is a completely different story.
They’re over-thinking it. Keep the visuals 100% identical, but remake them in higher resolution (not upscale-REMAKE). Keep the gameplay identical, but improve it, and add more depth to it. Fix the things people didn’t like, or things they wish they did better. Keep the pre-rendered backgrounds and the fixed camera. No one cares about a full-control camera in FF. It’s a narrative game, not a FPS. They don’t even need to touch the music-the PS1 music is perfect. Instead, add voice-overs, put back the story and game content that was cut, and update the Junction system, add quality of life improvements, and you have a smash hit. That’s more than enough for us. THAT’S a remake. We don’t want a reimagining like FFVII. We want a REMAKE. It took them about a year or two to make FFVIII. Imagine what they can do in two years if they use this approach today! The things that they say will make them take so much time are things people don’t care as much about as they think.
SE could remake games much quicker If they dropped their obsession with hyper realistic graphics. FF games used to be so good partly because of the Art style, proving that the graphics do not need to be so realistic.
It's crazy to me people loving FF7 story and hating FF8's, FF8's story is so much better. Obviously the junction and draw system would have to adapt, MP would have to come back, but aside from that I never understood the love for FF7 and hate for FF8 Remake VIII after VII, come on, we don't need BS sidequests, minigames or open world, do it in one game...I'm really tired and bored of VII content tbh

They need to give FF to fresher devs and let them take it somewhere that isn’t either having an identity crisis or like FF7r, a parody of itself bordering upon fan fiction, largely because of the people you named.
Not the first FF game id like to see remade, id probably like to see 6 or 4 first, 8 would have to be a completely different game, most of the mechanics were fail points that nobody wants to see reinvented, magic system junction scaling enemies all bad.
I hope one day they decide to remake ff8. It's one of the top selling FF games and the characters are quite popular in the franchise.
If done properly people would love it more than ff7 and I truly believe that!
