Found a long handle compact head ratchet that pivots in two places in Harbor Freight for like 22 dollars and for what I use it works perfect. Have a ratchet with short handle that I used for a RX 7 that I had. Love the video...
Yay Tool reviews!! Thanks Mr Subaru
I'd like to see a side by side comparison between this mod and a Stahlwille 452QR/12261010. Not sure how slim the head is, but usually they're small. The locking flex AND qr would be nice.
Ko-Ken would also be a serious contender. They have plenty of specialized ratchets and sockets.
Lol. I'm aware. Own lots of Ko-ken tools.
because... one can never have to many ratchets!! also, love the songebob phone cover!! 😂😂
SpongeBob phone cover??
@@MrSubaru1387 yes, minute 7:28. The reflection on the ratchet 🤔
I don't have a SpongeBob phone cover. I have a solid black otterbox. I filmed this video on my Canon DSLR camera as well.
Ooooo! Haha. That was a still picture I got on Google!
@@MrSubaru1387 that explains it 😂😂
Ultimate Subaru spark plug ratchet I say out loud. Then I hear my SVX chuckle 😆
Jesus Christ there’s still one alive?!
So what about u getting/milling & selling the faceplate? I'm interested for sure. Or even just a whole ratchet already setup? Don't have anyone to do the milling.
That's an advanced mod! Pretty nice, being the only one in the world!?
Perhaps before the end of the year, Snap-on will release an official version.
Probably... 🙄 🙄 🙄
@@MrSubaru1387 😅
My rep still gets the 3/8 faceplates. I made one with the slightly-shorter flex head 1/4, I use it all the time. But honestly, the little 72t round head with the 3/8 anvil is even more useful to me
The FCF72-2 faceplate is the faceplate to convert any T72 based 1/4" ratchet. But, that faceplate doesn't work on the TLLF72&THLLF72. They're designed differently and not interchangeable. To convert the TLLF72&THLLF72 you have to custom machine a TLLF72 faceplate.
Can you get any of these faceplates made and sell them? I don't have access to a machine or a friend that does. I would buy 2 or 3. Some guys in my shop would buy it
Same.
Yes I’d buy 2!

Want!
I have the TLLF72 and TLL72,both great ratchets. My Snap On dealer I deal with told me about the issue on the 3/8 conversion on the flex head,he does them as well
Does your dealer sell the faceplate for the conversion?
I beat that dealer is swapping FCF72 heads onto the TLLF72&THLLF72 handles.
Mine was telling me I'd have to buy 2 rachet and swap the heads. That's why I searched for it and found your video
@@jamesluster1306 you can buy the head, plate, and kit seperate. All have part numbers.
@@MrSubaru1387 the faceplate for the TLLF72 with a 3/8 head?
All the parts ordered, any advice on the specs that the face plate needs to be machined to?
Beautiful job. Ya think Snap On would b making the face place replacement already since we tinkers are going to be wanting to do this.
You didn’t show the back side of the faceplate
My experience.. the little spring steel v cut tensioner deal that sits beneath the pawls wears out extremely bad thats whats is worn if you cant hear it click at all anymore which personally i dont like. You can get by with bending it back a time or two but after that it just need replaced. Happens bad in my extra long 3/8 straight. Bc i use it like a breaker bar prolly lol. Plus i had to put loctite on the face plate bolts bc they always back out from vibration breaking things loose with it
i wish this video came out yesterday. just finished a 1hr - 1hr 30min spark plug job on my 05 sti smh
04 XT Forester here, currently at 194,000 km's and preparing to do the whole shebang around 200k.. Timing/Sparkies etc.. Kinda think I should just pull the engine out!
Nice job..
Thanks
I've been looking for the same idea just 3/8 head long 1/2 drive flexhead. Please show us how!!!
Very cool 👍
The only thing Matco has is a better locking Flex head. Other than that the heads snap off,the gear sets are constantly wearing out. Most macro reps don't come to your shop if you're already tooled up. Don't worry gearwrench guts are better and are available on Amazon
For anyone considering doing the 3/8 drive conversion to the THLL72 or THLLF72, the milled faceplate dimensions (to fit the 3/8 drive and o-ring) are …
OD: 0.685 in (o-ring hole)
ID: 0.550 in (3/8 drive hole)
Depth: 0.050 in (o-ring hole)
Respectfully.
Note: You only need to machine/mill the faceplate of the 1/4” ratchets with the screws through the selector switch side, NOT the faceplate side.
Hope this helps someone!
What about the faceplate with the screws threw the faceplate? Snap-on guy doesn’t have the faceplate I need and don’t want to spend a lot on a faceplate when shipping is more than the faceplate
Do you have the capability to do this milling? I'd love to pay someone to do it. As I was planning on just drilling out the hole and tosing the oring in the trash
OK so I don’t have a way to machine the face plate, how about you just start sell some of these things just tell me the price .
I just wrote the same comment 🤦🏻♂️
Seems outlandish that the screws would shear off with the entirety of the face plate perimeter acting as a bearing surface on the inside of the body. Crazy

Have you considered putting a larger snap on 3/8 handle on this conversion? I hate how small this handle is on the thllf72
Hey man a service writer dropped off an r o this morning to do a 2006 Subaru 2.5l timing belt (I’ve never done one) do I have to have that special tool to hold the balancer? Or Any outher tools? I’m assuming you have a step by step video?😅
it would be nice if someone just set up an etsy or something like, selling prefabulated faceplates to enable quick, easy, and predictable conversions
Hey Mr.Subaru why not just add a reducer from 1/4 to 3/8?
It wouldn’t be as compact
When you machine a bigger hole in the faceplate, why doesn't that weekend it?
It does to a degree, but not as badly as using the other faceplate with the recessed fasteners.
You must have more ratchets than Jesus at this stage?! 😅
😂 😂 😂
@@MrSubaru1387 love the videos. Btw. Have you ever worked on the JDMs legacy GTs?
I have not.
is this worth doing?
Will a TF72 ratchet head fit on a TM9G breaker bar handle? Would save from having to buy two ratchets.
Have to u done any Titan tools ? Like the 3/8 sealed head ratchet ?
quick release would have finished it off the very best.
Did you get the face plate on the conversion to have a lip for the o ring after all or did you only bore out the hole with no lip to fit the 3/8 drive?
Machined the lip for the o-ring.
Do you have this converted/machined faceplate available for sale?
Unfortunately I don't
@@MrSubaru1387 Thank you
How can I do this myself? I want to buy the new faceplate!
Hi Mr subaru. Long time fan. Always watch your videos. Love subarus. I do apologize for posting here. Posting in hopes you can help shed some light on a strange issue I have. 02 impreza wrx wagon. Temperature gage is going to red when the car is running but I have my ob2 scanner watching the coolant temperature and the temperature is normal. Fans come on at 204 degrees like they should but by the time it reaches this temperature the temp gage is already topped out in red. I ve replaced the coolant and coolant temp sensor. I even tried a different cluster with the same result. I have not changed the water pump and it doesn't appear to have any type of leak or head gasket issue. Would really appreciate your input. Thanks so much again for your videos. Always look forward to them.
I have also replaced the thermostat as well. Both coolant temp sensor and thermostat were replaced with subaru parts. Engine is completely stock.
@@acer4769 man that was a solid question but I’m sure he has a differnt line to get paid technical support questions ? I don’t know if he doesn’t or doesn’t but I know most RUclipsrs.
So did you ever find out what was causing the temp gauge to pin into the red ?
Hey man, using an 02 wrx pedal cluster on my Impreza. It doesn’t seem to line up on the clutch side. There is three holes. Two outside mounting holes there is a double layer hole. Is the cylinder standoffs at the base of the clutch master mounting bolts. Do those go through first inside layer to make the entire structure the pivot section be flush with the inside? Do you know! Thx
Any updates on this ratchet?
what size is the hole i need to make on the face plate?
What depth and diameter did your friend cut for the o-ring? Have you had any grease leakage around the o-ring?
I don't have the specific measurements, we machined it to match the bore of the FC72 faceplate. No leakage.
Awesome, thank you.

I was wondering if you could help me. I have an old T936 ratchet. Is there a way I can convert that to a 72 tooth?
No.
Too bad Snapon or someone else doesn't make 1/4" drive spark plug sockets. It's not like spark plugs are a high torque component. Snapon, are you listening? :-)
nightmare
First off not sure i would say modifying a Snap-on part would be considered doing it right. If Snap-on wanted the modification done they would either offer as complete ratchet or all the parts. That being said I got a new one of the extra long flex head ratchet and it came with to other head with screws from the front. I converted it to 3/8 drive. Used as my daily driver and stripped out the gears in 2 months. It is handy in tight spots. Not sure it was worth the $$$.
@@ianloyd6384 I should clarify the Snap-on ratchet that had the head with the screws from the front on the extra long flex ratchet was not normal. Snap-on claims that the current 72 1/4 ratchet head with the screws from the rear are stronger than the ones with the screws from the front. If that was the case then why wouldn't they put that head on all of the models. Maybe they only think the exact long ratchet is the only you could put enough force for it to be impact full. Normally if you are changing from 1/4 to 3/8 drive you have to change the main drive gear, the anvil o-ring and the front plate cost about $25 off the Snap-on truck. If you convert the extra long flex Snap-on ratchet you will also need to swap out the ratchet head. You can buy the head separately but in most cases if you have a 2nd 1/4 ratchet with the head you need you can just swap the head with the ratchet you want to convert to 3/8 drive. The only reason this would be a problem is if at some point you decide you want to convert that 2nd ratchet to 3/8 drive.
@@ianloyd6384 i think Snap-on changed the head on the extra long ratchet just so you could not swap out the drive to 3/8 easily
Ugh torque tho
Good for 100ft.lbs
@@MrSubaru1387 i mean a torque wrench for the plugs. Im always winging it bc i dont have a tourqe wrench that fits.
Nooooooooooooooooo, tool reviews. I'd rather see an update on the new scoobaru van! That is what I am naming your new addition to the fleet.
Waiting on parts... :/
@@MrSubaru1387 Understandable, in my opinion between the new scoobaru and your sambar, there is a great opportunity to brand them the same for maximum effectiveness should you go the mobile tool barn route lol. Now if you do, I get some credit :p BTW update on the sambar?
@@flat4forlife588 still waiting on the parts for the Sambar as well.... 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄 Ordered early August..
@@MrSubaru1387 Okay, I'll accept that hahaha. I am waiting for you to get your hands a great condition baja (turbo or NA) to keep. Funny though, there is cult like following for them, in my area they hold their value so finding a cherry at a great price would be hard.
Any issues with buying a rust free, 2008 Subaru Outback w/ 173,000 miles, for only $2,200??? Appreciate any insights
