      Thanks for posting it. It definitely adds more functionality, at least for the things I typically do.

      I’m now wondering if this is doable with the 1/4” compact stubby

    I just bought the attachments and the ratchet and it’s fantastic I plan on giving these to my coworkers
    Thank you for the video

    It may have been mentioned but Astro sells a few ratchets that are 1/4 bodies with 3/8 drive. Quality tool and no assembly required.

    I've snipped the last ringlet of the spring off for the pawl engagement and it makes the backdrag just that little bit lighter and it's a dream for free tightening bolts

    Thanks for posting, don't know why but I'm really enjoying these ratchet mods.

    Thank you!! I ordered a few repair kits. I've have a ratchet with a chipped pawl for about 15 years. 👍👍

    If you have problems with the selector switching on you during use try switching out the grease for oil.
    I used some white lithium grease in mine, had this issue, cleaned it and put oil in and it stopped switching directions randomly.

    There is a BIG difference between the supelube you used, and what is in the kits. NLGI 2 compared to NLGI 00.

    Tekton also sells small body 3/8 ratchets. $85 for a 3”, 6”, and 6” flex. Unfortunately they don’t offer them in comfort grip yet.
    You could diy it though. I did the mod on a 9”. It’s pretty sweet.

    Alternatively, you can just buy the Gearwrench 90t ratchets which are a lot smaller than the icon ratchets without mods

    Nice video! Do you know how much thickness you are shaving off by using the 1/4" body compared to the normal 3/8"?

    • @chrisryansworkshop7519
      @chrisryansworkshop7519  2 месяца назад +2

      Just measured, the normal 3/8 is 1-1/8" deep and 1-5/16" wide and the new 3/8" small body is 15/16" deep and 7/8" wide (roughly, I measured with a tape measure).

    Nice mod👍. You shuffled everything around repeatedly like a carney with the cup game. Couldn't the ratchets just have stayed in one place on the bench? 😉😂

    I got the smallest ratchet I found and I welded a 3/8 drive to it it's half the size of the icon 1/4 I love my ratchet had it many years and I have a 1/4 ratchet 1/2 converter I had to mill it to fit take forever to make but faster than waiting for Amazon

      Tekton has them and a better warranty because the warranty is whoever has the tool not just the original buyer

  • @liveupmatt

    So how hard was the removal of the pin that held the ratchet head or the 1/2" square drive? I see what looks like a lot of blue Loctite on the pin. Was it as simple as you show on the video or did you remove it first then put it back in and video it its removal for illustration purposes?

    • @chrisryansworkshop7519
      @chrisryansworkshop7519  Месяц назад +1

      No quite sure what you're referring to. I didn't remove the head, I only swapped out the 1/4" anvil with a 3/8"

    i wish i had seen this before i bought the snap on version for $130, i was actually trying to look online for the icon stuff before i bought the snap on, its broken now cause they taper the anvil on the bottom so it snapped off

    Why not buy the kit and the ratchet from Tekton? That’s what I did. I like Tekton’s comfort grip ratchet’s much better than my Snap On comfort grip’s.

    • @chrisryansworkshop7519

      You definitely could. I just had these ratchets already after Harbor Freight had a big sale on them.

    • @chrisryansworkshop7519
      @chrisryansworkshop7519  Месяц назад +1

      Yea, I think for this particular ratchet, yes, I think they source from the same company. I would think a lot of the ratchets made in Taiwan come from the same place.

  • @andrewstankiewicz4760
    @andrewstankiewicz4760 Месяц назад +1

    They’ve made ratchets like that for over 20 years. I have some that’s nothing new.
