Lead isn't a great thing to be breathing, and it's not always easy to know if somewhere below all those layers of paint lurks lead.
There's also just IR heaters, which are possibly the least messy/unhealthy, but also the most expensive.

Doing a quick internet search, Mastercraft seems to be whomever the low bidder is in China. Also, it's not as if whomever turns it out can't turn it out better. One thing with Chinese stuff. Don't blame the Chinese. Blame the company buying the stuff to sell. China is capable of turning out any quality you want. How much you want to pay? This is a GFE. Girl Friend Experience. You pay a certain amount of money, you get a certain amount of "Attention". There's a good chance that an item on the shelves today and the same item on the shelves 2 years from now, might be made by someone else, because the new outfit will make it cheaper.

I have bought about a dozen used M12 batteries. The only one that was clearly counterfeit was sold as new on Amazon and had a typo. The rest are from Ebay and last 85-100% as long as new batteries and I believe them to be genuine. I have not found a reference showing what cells each serial number should contain. I take my time and wait for deals. I think 9 out of 10 ebay listings for M12 batteries are counterfeit. My red flags are stock photos, any negative reviews for batteries from that seller, and sellers who turn over dozens of batteries daily. Making any communication request like for a photo of the serial number weeds out sellers who dgaf.

18650 are not built equally. There's only a couple manufacturers LG and Samsung and Panasonic that make the best cells the others are all cheap junk that last 1/4 as long. Good video. Not to mention these other batteries are fire risks. You're going to need good integrity for when your Milwaukee drops its battery cartridge out 20 times a day... ( I have a short showing proof of this ) My old DeWalt 18V NEVER did this.

Exactly, cheap knock off cells and batteries can have a better £/Wh metric but that is completely immaterial when their intrinsic risk and reliability makes them a serious health hazard.
For certain products I only intend to use a few times I'll happily buy cheap.
But when they are not plugged in and are left sitting in a shed I'll have zero concern towards them. With lithium cells it doesn't matter if you aren't using them, they represent a continuous risk and in some cases are a ticking time bomb.
